Review East India Company - Ottawa

If you’re a fan of Indian food and if you love buffets then East India Company Pub & Eatery restaurant must be your first choice. I can’t think of any other place to celebrate my friend’s birthdays! No matter the occasion, if you want some good food and enjoy some cozy ambience with your loved ones then you gotta check out this place! I swear that you won’t be disappointed! If you are planning to go there for the first time, my suggestion for you would be to try a little of everything and then go after your favourites for the second time! Don’t forget to leave room for desserts. Mango mousse & Gulab Jamun are strongly recommended! Enjoy 🤤

It’s worth to take the buffet options… foods are delicious. It’s expensive for sure, but once in a while it’s worth going. Lots of options, food quality is very good. If you don’t want buffet then the a la carte options are very good as well.

We had buffet dinner at this restaurant.Very unique, classy, traditional architectural dine in area. Positive atmosphere inside, very friendly staff. Food is just okay and a little expensive for their standards.Their staff and ambiance are their strength and cause of my 4-star

A wide selection of dishes that are clearly freshly prepared- not an easy task for a buffet. Ate here several times and was always impressed by the variety of dishes on offer, different styles of cuisine, and the relaxed dining room. Top marks for authenticity and chefs’ creativity. Every time I have been, I am reminded of my travel in India. Can’t recommend it enough.

We went for the buffet. The server was a nice man. He checked in on us often and cleared the dishes promptly. As for the food at the buffet, it's a good option for anyone who loves to eat a lot. Quantity wise they hit the mark. The quality however isn't the best. The food lacked the heat that Indian food generally has. The samosas seemed like they were old and fried twice and the filling was over salted. The naan bread was nice but has to be ordered separately. 3 naans cost a little over 7 bucks. The desserts were ok. The gulab jamun was good but everything else was just alright. I don't think we will be going back only because we realize the food will always be the same in terms of quality for a buffet.

I liked the sitting area and a some antique indian decore. They had buffet option as well, it was $23 per person. I felt price of dishes were a bit on higher side but good quantity, you will get papad as a compliment. Along with Paneer mughlai we got rice as a compliment. You will find a perfect Indian vibes in here. Halal non-veg was available that's a plus point for me :) just ask them to bring Naan along with dish because they serve Naan first and had to wait for vegetables to come till then Naan was cold. I must recommend to go and taste different dishes here.

Not the best not the worst! Somewhere in the middle. We tried the buffet, I won’t say everything was good but some were really good! Lacks a bit of spice for my indian taste but I get it, its for the people here.. nevertheless really good options, a lot of choices, amazing service and good ambience. The dessert options were too good and tasted delicious!! Will I go here again? Yes! Do try it once if you are thinking about it.

Honestly… if you loved them when you were dining in, you may hate them if you do takeout. I’m telling you right now, it’s no good! We actually have to drop the food off into a local garbage can due to it being criminally bad! I kept the lamb byriani but then just now found a random shrimp in it. What on earth? That could kill a person with an allergy. Anyway, the only reason we got Indian from here is because the place across the street (Mehfil), was closed due to COVID issues. We have learned our lesson.

I have never left food reviews anywhere, but this is my first because I am that disappointed!! I ordered Lahori Malai platter and a non-veg combo for one and cheese naan after having a craving for good indian food! The food lacked spices and was so bland that it tasted like something made in a hospital! Malai lahori platter was nothing but bunch of chicken and seekh kebab pieces dipped in a creamy (BLAND) sauce. It was so bad that I threw it out and I never throw out anything. The non-veg platter had butter chicken which was okayish still bland and the so called navratan korma sauce tasted the same as the lahori platter one.. BLAND!! The cheese naan was stuffed with cream cheese... okay? There was no paneer in it and tasted meh. I have never hated a Indian restaurant food so much, I would rather eat my frozen butter chicken entree from walmart than this. No spice at all! This is not the place to order from if you are craving authentic indian food. It actually spoiled my food and it was cold too, but I won't blame that completely on them as I can understand that in delivery it can get cold. Overall 0.5 rating out of 5.

While visiting in Ottawa last week my cousin found one of the few East Indian restaurants offering a buffet - East India Company! We were so thrilled to see such a wide variety of selections for a vegetarian diet along with several options for meat/fish eaters. The dish I enjoyed the most (I don't recall its name) but included 'baby watermelon'! We ordered 2 types of naan - coconut & garlic. I watched as they were made and then delivered piping hot to our table. I really liked the fact that each dish in the buffet was labeled so you knew what the primary ingredient was - and such an array of condiments! East India Company, you will be on our list of 'must see/do' each time we return to Ottawa!

It was delicious! Impressed with the food and service. Our waiter was very attentive. Will definitely return and recommend. YUM! I would give a 4.5. I was just a little grossed out by the washroom.

Since becoming Celiac in January 2017, it has been difficult for me to eat in my favorite restaurants. The East India in Bells Corners has made this easy for me by labeling all the foods in their buffet that are gluten free!! Thank you so much... I get to keep coming to my favorite Restaurant !!

In Ottawa on Vacation and decided to give this restaurant a try LOVE INDIAN FOOD, it was bland and totally not worth the money, our local farmers market in NL has Indian Cusine cooked up in a home kitchen which is much better...my husband and I were very dissapointed in our meal, we did take out and the staff and atmosphere was great, but we would not eat here again 😞

The food was very good. It was sea food night, a got to try a number of sea food dishes which are not as common in Indian restaurants

What's extraordinary about this place is the tremendous choice and variety of the dishes in the buffet. The quality is high and you can count on them having the lamb every time. It's incredible. Lots of choices for the vegetarians too.

Had a date night with my husband at the East India Company and it lived up to our expectations. This is our favourite Indian buffet in the city and it never disappoints. The food is extremely tasty as opposed to so spicy your eyes are watering. Best samosa, mango chutney and lamb in the city. If you like mangos try the wee mango puddings. They are heaven on a spoon.

Awesome food. They have so many dishes in lunch buffet, simply amazing

Vegetarian perspective as I am a vegetarian. Had I known that naan is not part of the buffet, I wouldn't have gone. No pita or any kind of bread is provided in the buffet - you need to buy it - this is a first Indian buffet I have seen where naan/bread is not provided!! Alloo mattar paneer(cottage chesse) had no paneer(cottage chesse) in it just aloo mattar. Overall quality is just average - my first and last visit.
