The best pho in Ottawa!..............…….............................................................................................................
Probably one of the better places in Ottawa for rice dishes. The other places are good for soup noodles but this place has good portioning for non-soup based items. Definitely worth a try!
One of the few Pho spots in Chinatown that are in our "regular rotation". Service is always good, portions are well sized and Pho is always great. Can't ask for much more when you need a quick noodle fix.
Best place in Chinatown for sure. Spring rolls are phenomenal and the pho and vermicelli dishes never disappoint. Love the vegetarian pho option. Service is always fast and friendly.
Pho not bad, we ordered the usual deluxe-style pho with all the beef fixings-- but it was not exactly what we were looking for. My family is looking to find a suitable substitute in Ottawa for our favourite place back at home. The pho is good, it's very mild, and not a big kick of flavour like we're seeking. I find we have to douse our soup in condiments to get something really satisfactory. That said, it's not a bad place, and it's packed. The portions are pretty generous too.
This has the best broth in Chinatown, imo. I also am a big fan of the veggie broth-vegetarians can rejoice and join us for some tasty pho! It's tasty and features extra veg and tofu.
Best pho in Ottawa.. Hands down, the best Pho in Ottawa.
I've never been disappointed. I go atleast once a week, always have #23. The staff always remembers me and treats me like family. The broth is so flavourful, and the copious amount of meat you get is fantastic. My friend gets the veggie pho everytime and she raves about. The springrolls are just as great.
After living off Somerset for some time and trying most the restaurants in the area, Pho Tu Do has been my go to for the last year and a bit, and will continue to be for some time.
Amazing!. Probably Ottawa's best Pho restaurant!
Slightly different menu than most pho places, including nice cheap sides like shrimp to go with your order. The broth in the rare beef pho is unique and very flavourful, probably the best I've had. The spring rolls are also different than what you would usually expect, in a good way. Overall probably the best pho place downtown!
Best Pho. My favourite pho restaurant in Ottawa! I've been eating pho here ever since they started out in their first location right beside the Pho Bo Ga up the street. They are one of few places that get the beef broth right for pho. Always generous portions (pho, rice, bun, you name it..) and genuine, authentic food that regardless of how busy the place is, always comes within minutes if placing your order. As a side note, been on a vegetarian diet recently and discovered today that they have some good veggie options too. :)
Good Pho. Ordered the veggie pho with non veggie broth - but was really happy they had a veggie broth option not something you see at most pho restaurants. Happy with the different veggie options.
Would have liked it better if it had slightly more spice (star anise or something like that) and cilantro. Didn't understand if they forgot to put cilantro in the pho or if the restaurant just doesn't put cilantro in any of the dishes.
Also ordered veggie spring rolls. Appreciated that the spring rolls were homemade and pretty good all in all.
All in All good pho!!
AMAZING BUN. Go there repeatedly as it is simply fantastic. Great service which matches their food. I always order the mixed bun (grilled shrimps, beef and chicken.) Have never been disappointed. Will keep returning. :)
Just great!. Every Sunday for the past year or so has consisted of lunch from Pho Thu Do. These guys are awesome!
The food is absolutely delicious, the service is superb, and the prices are more than fair. (especially when you consider how large all the meals are)
The restaurant is very clean, and everyone works hard to keep you happy. Out of what has been tens of meals thus far, none have been disatisfactory.
Although our favorite meal from here has always been the Pho (Of which they have great selection) they also have other delicious alternatives.
I strongly suggest this restaurant to anyone looking for a cheap, filling, sunday lunch!
Excellent!. Came here because of the positive reviews. Ordered the special pho with Rare beef, beef tendon and tripe and it was delicious. It was probably the best pho I've ever had and that's saying something because I've been to a lot of pho places in my lifetime lol. The salad rolls were also very fresh and delicious! Great little find in Ottawa. I will be coming back!!!
The best pho in ottawa! spring rolls are amazing too.
The rice is probably better than the pho but it's a pretty good place. Clean and the service is pretty good. Spring rolls and grilled meat tastes awesome
A good bowl of pho. Tasty springrolls -- the thicker variety, that look more like an eggroll -- and a good bowl of pork udon noodle soup made for a pleasant visit. The service was standard for a pho house: quick, with minimal interaction. They did, however, accommodate a basic substitution of soup ingredients.
As for the decor, it's very utilitarian. Prices are also in keeping with the increasingly inflated menus at other pho houses; I blame this trend on the after-bar crowd that discovered pho houses on Somerset a few years back. Truth be told, I liked it better when pho was only the province of hipsters and Ottawa's Asian community.
Delicious! I had the vegetarian salad rolls and vegetarian pho. It's hard to find a Vietnamese place that serves something other than meat broth. Great service too! I will return and recommend.
Amazing, Dependable, Consistent. Pho Thu Do is the best Pho I have ever experienced.
I've been coming here for ten years. I spent a year away from Ottawa and tried to find equal pho the whole time. Their spring rolls are incredible especially paired with the pho, something about it... Just a note, rootbeer is amazing with it.
Great Pho. I went to Pho Thu Do today for lunch. I had the rare beef, low fat beef, and tripe pho. The service was amazingly quick - i looked in the menu, wrote down my order, and my food was in front of me in less than 5 minutes. I had absolutely zero requirements for attentive service, I simply wanted a quick lunch, and my needs were met.
The decor inside is a bit tired looking, and the music is heavily cultural and may be unappealing for some in terms of ambiance, but I really don't pay less than 10$ for a meal and expect anything too fancy at all. The restaurant and bathroom was clean and that's good by me.
The pho was fantastic. I ordered a medium and it was more than enough for me (I have a pretty average appetite). I would consider getting a small next time. All of the condiments were deliciously fresh and flavourful. The broth was outstanding, really I can't get over it. The flavours were bright on the palate and the spicing was completely on point. The meats in my pho were of good quality. Rice noodles are rice noodles, not much to say here - there was a good amount in the pho which is a good thing, as I do like rice noodles.
Overall, an excellent bowl of pho and I strongly recommend it if you find yourself in Chinatown.
Excellent. Best pho in Ottawa, and superb spring rolls. Good service every time, and fairly consistent pho flavour from week to week. This has been a regular spot for 5+ years.
Best vietnamese place, ever, hands down, that is all...
Best broth in town. Spring rolls are okay (oxhead in kanata gets this prize), but the pho broth is absolutely fantastic.
Unique spring rolls. This place sells a pork and noodle spring roll that is nicely deep fried. One of the only places in ottawa to sell this style of roll which is fat and not tightly wrapped.
The pho could be better, broth can be weak and without the nice anice aroma.
Thu Good! Pho-ckin Amazing!. I can't believe that this little noodle shop wasn't added a long time ago. If you are looking for the BEST pho in the city, this is it folks. I was introduced to Thu Do about 6 years ago by a Vietnamese friend of mine after complaining to him that all the pho restaurants that I had tried up to that point were quite unsatisfying and heavy on the out of the pakage, MSG ridden flavour. Thu Do is a small restaurant maybe able to accomodate 25 to 30 at the most and the only thing on the menu is pho, spring rolls, coffee, and an assortment of drinks. That's it. The broth is really what differentiates Thus Do from other pho places. It is a fragrant clear broth with hints of cinnamon. Always flavourful and on the table within 5 minutes. If you are looking for a pho phix, Thu Do is the way to go.
Since moving to Ottawa my wife and I have been on a quest to find a good place for heartwarming pho. Since leaving Toronto and our old Pho standby of Pho Xe Lua , we have been to a couple of Vietnamese restaurants looking for the national dish of Pho. We have come away somewhat dissapointed, nothing could hold a flame to the good beef broth and decent thick noodles of Pho Xe Lua. That is until today. The main problem with Ottawa's Chinatown is the plethora of Pho places. Where do you go that is good and where to avoid We were looking for a place with guarenteed good Pho before branching out to try others. So we turned to one of Ottawa's experts on food and of course the authority on books in Ottawa. We took out the book Capital Dining from the Ottawa library from the former Ottawa Citizen Food Critic, Anne DesBrisay. She had mentioned the Pho Thu Do's Pho ( 781 Somerset Street West, Ottawa ) as "...pretty darn terriffic" (Page 133). So this seemed promising. We ventured down
It was at Pho Thu Do I had my first bowl of pho, a dish that is tantamount to a Vietnamese take on the French pot-au-feu. It is where Jenn and I keep coming back to for a great pho experience.
Being a vegetarian, it was hard finding food for me. But these guys had great options. I took a #54 and a #57 and I’ll always remember the taste being incredible. The balance of both the dishes was mind blowing. The soy peanut chutney was to die for. The veggie pho was phenomenal. I’ll always remember to visit when I am back in town.
Small inconspicuous restaurant with a calming atmosphere and DELICIOUS food!!
I highly recommend the spring rolls, the salad roll and the vermicelli chicken and beef.
I will definitely return next time I’m in Ottawa.
Had pho tai chin. If you consider it a bowl of noodle then it is quite decent. But it definitely tastes nothing like authentic pho. Even the pho noodle is not the correct kind you find in vietnam. The broth tastes different too. (Coming from a person who lived in hanoi for 5 years)
Definitely one of the better bowls of pho I’ve had in Canada. The broth is very tasty and traditional but the meat was just okay. Medium size is actually quite a decent size and it’s under ten bucks. They also have Vietnamese coffee and crunchy spring rolls. Friendly staff.
Above average Pho restaurant in Ottawa's Chinatown district. Have eaten at restaurant a few times. Overall good service. Does depend on time of day. Great seating at front of restaurant, relaxing. Ordered large soup and spring rolls. Tasty, good portions. Bathrooms clean but dated.
Delicious vegetarian pho! Large portions at an affordable price. I've been visiting for a few years now and have no intention on going anywhere else for pho. 👍 I also appreciate the kind service.
This is my favourite pho place on Somerset. The broth is excellent and their spring rolls are unique, the best on the street. All items are good, but classic order is spring rolls + rare beef soup (#1 Pho Tai). Order a couple quail eggs for your soup. Hot Vietnamese coffee w sweetened condensed milk. Also good is Bun (noodle bowl) or the Com Tam (broken rice plate) pictured at right
Friendly, fast service, and tastes great! It's hard competing in a pocket where there are about ten other Vietnamese restaurants a stone's throw away, but the ratings do not lie! Tastes like the best ones in Toronto!
