Review Haldi - Ottawa

Suz L
Butter chicken was good! A little on the sweeter side but yummy. Also ordered a lamb spicy dish and it was ok. The rice was good. Naan bread was pretty good. Atmosphere was a bit lacking. It was warm inside and there werent many people there. Decor was nice, service was good.

A few vegetarian options. The appetizers were quite small for the price. I liked the paneer massala the best. The gulab jamun desserts are delicious.

It was our first time at Haldi's but it won't be our last. The food was authentic Indian cuisine, fresh and flavorful. It's a small restaurant tastefully decorated. Service was great thanks to Fatima. We had chicken korma, chicken tiki masala, saag paneer and naan bread.

Came to visit Ottawa and came across this wonderful restaurant. I usually am quite skeptical of indian food for its flavours because of my past experiences but I really enjoyed this place. Had the Taag/Saag chicken I think and my boyfriend had the plain chicken currry. Both of them had such rich flavours! Definitely would love to go back again. Server was very friendly as well.

The food is unbelievable and sooo much! The waitress was so kind and it might be the best Indian food I've found in Ottawa. Feels like someone's house with a great atmosphere and intimate setting.

Delicious food - everything is fragrant, flavourful and generous portions. The restaurant is small and cozy so make sure to book if you want a seat!

We came here to visit Jasper from Toronto and searched for this restaurant and tried with family. The food was amazing, tasty and fresh and the service was great too. If you are near must visit Chicken curry Biryani Palak paneer Manchurian Noodles and Garlic Naan Everything was great.

This gem of a place has been around for 5 years and I am ashamed to admit, this was my first visit. That said - it won’t be my last! The food (what we ordered) was delicious and more than enough to satisfy 4 people. There were leftovers! On top of the great food, the service was attentive and friendly!

AVOID!! Fake indian food!! Waste of money!!
i am originally from Delhi, India. We travelled from Toronto for tulip festival, hoping to have some indian food. What we had was not close to how indian food cooked.

If they change their name to “ indian fusion “ i would give them 2star for their location.

Their chicken tikka looks like sliced ham roasted in oven ( looks funny) who serves sliced chicken tikka.
Their presentation of mutton is keeping 5 round slices of tomotes over mutton curry. ( curry never felt like actually curry)

If you looking for indian food in ottawa , i think this is not the right place.

Great Ambience!!!!!!! Food was good, I went with my wife ,we ordered only veg though.....Paneer Masala curry was really good here..... The Naan was crispy and soft..

My husband and I always get takeout. We travel 20 minutes to pick it up and by the time we get it home the food is still hot. The portions are very generous and we always have leftovers. Great service, very polite staff. Absolutely the best naan bread- so big and fresh!

My new favourite Indian restaurant in Ottawa. Amazing vindaloo: decent lingering spice without being overpowering. Fantastic attentive service and great ambiance in this cozy spot.

This place is great, both for sit-down and for takeout. The restaurant is such a nice little place that's always so welcoming and tidy, and anyone who's ever served me here has been so friendly. The food is absolutely great and the portions are incredible for the prices here. My go-to Indian restaurant in Ottawa.

One of my favourite restaurants! Service is always fantastic. Servers remember you and and always make you feel special. Food is bursting with flavour! So delicious. Cute and intimate atmosphere. Have been to Haldi at least 10 times and will never disappoint!

Fantastic place! The servers were super sweet and the food was great. The service was a little slow and the Naan didn't come with our entrée, but overall it was great.

One of my absolute favourite places to go. Amazing service and friendly staff. I always feel welcomed and the decor is very warm. The food is great with a lot of spice and the portions are very reasonable! My favourite Indian restaurant!

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE !!!!. Went with my husband and another couple. It was myself and my husbands first time eating at a Indian restaurant and let me say it was an amazing first time experience!! Fatima had a way of making you feel like you were a guest in her own home, she made it such a fun experience! Food was full of flavour and so delicious!! I highly recommend this place!!!

Favourite Indian Restaurant!. We have been here several times and have always had a wonderful experience. The owner/server provided excellent service. The cozy atmosphere is wonderful and the food is incredible. Full of flavour. Our favourite place to go!

Amazing flavours an amazing service!. We just came back from this restaurant and it is some of the best Indian food we ever had! We had to wait one hour since the place is very small and doesn't have a lot of tables, but it was completely worth the wait! The waitresses gave us incredible service, they even offered us a free appetizer for the long wait! We will be back and bring more people to try it out! Thank you!

New favourite!. My husband and I went for his birthday dinner recently; first, this is a lovely little spot, modern décor, and the staff are all very warm and welcoming. The menu was enticing, and the aromas emanating from the kitchen were heavenly. When our server came to ask for our order, she warned us that the selections we had made are considered very spicy by their customers. We appreciated the warning, though unnecessary as we are big fans of big heat. The Beef Vindaloo was, in a word, spectacular. I have never been to India, so I am no authority on Indian cuisine but authentic or not, this was the very best vindaloo I or my husband have ever had. Our entire meal was delicious, topped off perfectly by ice-cold Mill Street beer. The server kindly brought us a lovely rice pudding birthday dessert, which was a very welcome and cooling follow-up to our fiery meal, and to sweeten the surprise even more, it didn't appear on our bill. These are lovely people, taking pride in their heritage and sharing these exotic and most flavourful dishes with all who care to come in their door - which we will be doing over and over again!

-----10 Oct, 2014-----

Beef Vindaloo. Spicy, like crazy spicy, but incredibly flavourful and endorphin inducing!

Wonderful Indian food. A warm and friendly little spot. Very small, so make a reservation.

Generous portions, authentic cuisine. Reasonably priced.

A new favourite for us

Bland food. Not overly impressed. food was bland.

Really nice experience!. Everything about this delivery experience was pleasant. The deliveryman was great, the food was great (except the bhaji was a little dry). Best garlic naan I've had in Ottawa.

Fair warning: hot dishes here (we had vindaloo and Madras curry) are considerably hotter than most hot dishes we've had at local Ottawa/Thai places. This was perfect for our needs, but should be mentioned!

Best samosas ever!. Tiny little place but big on service and the food is excellent! Fatima is just so charming and friendly....her hubby is the chef. I have been there a number of times now and the food has been consistantly great. I will go back....many more dishes to try.

Best Indian I've tried so far in Ottawa. My wife and I stopped in here after a walk around Dow's lake one sunny day when the snow was melting. Great fresh delicious dishes served cleanly and with style at a great price with a smile. Good decor and nice atmosphere. Can't recommend it enough. On a thawing spring day the outside looked a little rough around the edges and weren't sure it was open but what a jewel inside.

Excellent food, excellent price, excellent service... Very pleased!!!! Staff is really nice and the food is delicious for a great price :)

Incredible indian cuisine. Mohi and Fatima produced last night a spectacular curry meal with all the oriental trimmings. We have eaten curry all over the world and this was one of the best. At our table were 4 different nationalities - English, Canadian, African and Chinese. Wisely, we let Fatima choose the courses while her husband Mohi worked his magic in the kitchen. The result was a spectacular meal and a memorable evening that will guarantee Haldi's success if they maintain the same high standard.
Mike Broomfield

I love Haldi!. I can't say enough great things about this place! I've brought many of my friends here to share the experience and introduce them to Haldi. The food is rich, delicious, and portioned well. I reccommend the combos at the back of the menu; the meal for two is so much food! The dining area is cozy, clean, and has a really great ambience. But the best part about this place are the people that own and run it. Fatima and her husband are such great people and are really committed to providing their patrons with the best food, service, and experience possible. Also, Ajay who works on the weekends, is super great too! Go here!

Best Indian Food in Ottawa. I have tried most of the Indian restaurants in Ottawa and not one of them can come close to the quality of food which is served by Haldi. They have a unique twist on the conventional Indian dishes that make it fun and exciting while remaining true to the dish.
When I go to a restaurant I go to experience the art of cuisine. The passion for quality and uniquely artistic, flavourful, accents to the dishes make Haldi an experience worth repeating.

The owners are extremely polite, and social people. They will accommodate your food requests without a fuss. I have never been in a restaurant in Ottawa that was so eager to make sure that I enjoyed my meal.

The food is great and I actually feel good the next day.

Best Indian Cuisine in Ottawa. In my opinion this is the best restaurant for Indian food in Ottawa.

As someone who grew fond of Indian cuisine while living in England, I have found it difficult to find a similar gastro experience in Canada. The search is over. My girlfriend and I have now enjoyed Haldi's food three times and have yet to be disappointed by anything on the menu. Whether it's the spicy Zindaloo or the more subdued vegetable curry, the Haldi chef does not disappoint. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and Mill Street beers all feel like just bonuses after enjoying such a great meal.

I highly recommend anyone looking for great Indian cuisine in Ottawa stop in.

This place is so cute. Really good value for money with generous portion sizes. The couple that owns it are really nice and came out ask about how we found them. You can peer into the kitchen and see the array of spices they use. The dhansak was delicious and the naan and chiapatti were truly authentic. It's a family business that has done a great job.

Amazing authentic food. A friend and I decided to try Haldi and we were ever impressed. This restaurant is a must try if you like authentic Indian food. We ordered the butter chicken, lamb vindaloo, veg. samosa's and naan/rice. Everything was cooked and flavoured perfectly. Butter chicken was a different take on the dish with a sweetness to it. If you have a cold order the vindaloo (very spicy), it will clean you out. The spice was a good spice though, very flavourful while having a good kick. Also the veg samosas were delicious and plated very nicely with a small salad, certainly worth the couple dollars they charge.

All in all this restaurant did not disappoint and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The resto is very small so make reservations or you may not get in on a weekend. They do take-out though.

Fantastic Indian food, reasonable price. Ordered take-out for dinner, and it was fantastic. Crispy onion bhaji, delicious fresh naan, spicy and flavourful chicken madras, and tasty saag paneer. Not bland and North-Americanised like some. Highly recommended!

Among the best Indian food I've ever had. Chicken Korma, onion bhaji, mixed vegetable curry, chicken dopiaza, vegetable rice, and naan. All very flavourful, generous portions, and reasonably priced. Prompt, very friendly service. Two notes: One chillie spiced dishes are a little hotter than at most Indian restaurants, and it's a small restaurant. Or maybe it's just cozy :-)

If you like Indian food, you'll love Haldi.

Amazing food! Their lunch menu is such an amazing deal and everything tastes delicious!

Delicious Indian and Great Value. Haldi Indian Cuisine is a family-owned restaurant that recently opened in Little Italy. The people are so niceeeee there—our server was the owner of the place and she was very friendly.

We ordered the dinner for 2 B, which consisted of an assorted appetizer platter, three different curry dishes, basmati rice, naan, and a chai rice pudding dessert. We also ordered a mango lassi.

Everything was so good! We were consistently impressed with all the dishes we were served. The butter chicken is interesting because it is sweet, unlike many other butter chickens we have tried at other Indian restaurants. It was a refreshing change of pace.

If you get a chance, try out some of their spicy dishes. They make their own hot sauce with habanero peppers and boy, does it kick! There are many different levels of heat and you can inform your server of your spicy tolerance. They will be more than happy to customize your dish for you.

The service was very attentive, and our water was always full.

It's a cute little place, and if possible try to make a reservation because it is very popular! Make sure to give Haldi Indian Cuisine a try—highly recommended!

Spent: $50 for dinner.

Best staff.. The owners Mohi and Fatima are the best people (as managers) , I ever had in the Restaurant industry . Very polite , funny and down to earth . I am so happy they opened this new restaurant. Good luck and well wishes to their future from me.
Yasin.

Cozy and Delicious!. Came here on a tuesday night after almost walking past the restaurant.
Decided to try and found the food sooo delicious and affordable prices.
Three of us tried the Butter chicken, Lamb Dhansak and mixed vegetable curry with raita, rice and garlic naan. We finished with a dessert of ghulab jamun. Absolutely amazing, comfort food! The chef came out and told us the place has only been open for 4 months and I must say that I hope it does well.

Throughout the meal we saw numerous people come in for take out. The menu also offers a 10 percent discount for pick up orders, and delivery is also available at justeat.ca

The service was great, with the waitress answering our questions and suggesting items as well. Mill st organic and tankhouse on tap. Menu also offers a "curry and a pint" deal for dine in at $13.

A new restaurant that is a must to try! Would be a great cozy place for a date night.

Amazing food, cozy ambiance and excellent service.

THE BEST!. Tonight we picked up the dinner for two (option B) and it was delicious! Tasted like a home cooked meal. Great price with lots of leftovers! Some of the takeout Indian places I have tried around here are waaay to salty, and I found that all the dishes had just the right amount. On top of the awesome food the staff were super welcoming and friendly on the phone. Will for sure make this my new spot

Very Delicious!. I got take-out at lunch time and I got the chickpea and eggplant that comes with rice and salad and I added a garlic naan bread. It definitely exceeded my expectations, it was very delicious and I was surprised at the amount they give you for the price. I now have leftovers for supper. The staff was friendly as well. Now I have a new spot for lunch.

Best Indian I've had!. Arrived for lunch on a Friday and ordered the Chickpea/Eggplant curry and the Chicken Tikka. To die for! The Naan bread for delicious and portions were great. Definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Seating is limited so get there early.

Great food, reasonable price. My girlfriend and I get take out from there once in a while when we don't feel like cooking and we are never disappointed. I'm so happy that this place opened up so close to home! The food is great, prices are good, and the staff is super nice.

Amazing Indian Food!. My wife and I tried Haldi last night. Went in with zero expectations, and were blown away! The service was great, it's a family run business and they all genuinely care and want you to have an enjoyable experience. The atmosphere was nice, and the food was excellent. We had samosas with lamb Korma and Chicken Dhansak. The Naan was some of the best I've ever had. Everything was very reasonably priced and portions gave us enough to enjoy for lunch the next day. At the end of the night the chef even came out to ask us how everything was. This doesn't happen enough these days. We will be going back again for sure.

Best $13 I've spent in a while. $13 for a pint of Millstreet and a curry (plus a little salad). What a great deal. Great service, friendly staff and great food too! Veggie Vindaloo is great for extreme spice lovers!

Little India. Preston might be Little Italy to some, but after dinner at Haldi's you might need to change your maps.
Tucked into the brightest little restaurant on the strip, Haldi offered friendly warm service, deliciously prepared and presented food, and generous pours of wine!
And best of all, in keeping with the theme, the bill was pretty small too.
Definitely worth a repeat visit.

What a great little restaurant with friendly service. Two of us when there for dinner and shared one of the dinner meals for two. The staff was accommodating in substituting one of the entrees for a curry. The madras chicken curry was fantastic.spicy but delicious. The vegetables and lamb were great too. The dinner for two also came with a sampling of 4 or so appetizers, naan bread and dessert. All for t! Go now!

Tasty, quick, cheap, YAY!. I work near Preston and am always looking for good lunch options. I was happy when I got back from vacation and saw that an East Indian place had opened just around the corner from me. I am sitting at my desk right now finishing up the Saag Paneer (a favourite with the ladies, according to the menu, LOL) and it was very tasty.

For $8 I got a salad, the curry and basmati rice. Service was quick and very polite. The curry itself was tasty - not at all greasy - and some of the better Saag Paneer I've had.

I'll definitely be visiting again (and again, and again) for lunch. Menu offers a really nice variety, so I'll update as I try more dishes!
