The food and service here is always incredible! The staff are always friendly and warm, while no matter what I eat I always enjoy it! Try the sunny-up BLT, it's so tasty!!!
Very good hangout place. A very diverse and good choice of local Canadian beers. Good music and prompt service. They have a variety of meats and the burgers are super. Good vegetarian options too. The booths to sit provide a perfect setting to catch up.
Nice casual pub ambience. Lovely servers. Big place! Popular patio and popular during game nights. Good oysters, good food, and great beer selection. We shared duck wings which were pretty good. He had a tasty chicken dish which was a good portion (two breasts), but he preferred my schnitzel and spätzle (and the nice salty gravy that came with it) and so did I. It's simple, casual, had decent food overall and especially decent drinks, and enough tvs that seated opposite each other, you would have a good view of the game anywhere. Would go back for that schnitzel and a beer flight.
This was a nice place to sit, eat, and enjoy a nice beer. Great atmosphere. Nice service. The flatbreads were delicious. Also, kid friendly.
I was here for both lunch and dinner last night (and yes, that speaks well of the place).
It's a bustling loud place, not unlike many craft brew markets that have sprung up. The staff was attentive and the service was quick on both visits.
The food was very good and with a variety of options on the menu wide enough to find something for everyone. Food was quick from the kitchen, hot and fresh. Everything I tried was very good although I was particularly partial to the BBQ chicken flatbread pizza.
The beer selection was exceptional, better than most similar places I've been, another big plus.
On the cost side, it's a little pricier- close to $50 per person for apps, entrees and drinks, but not unreasonable for the quality. If you like this sort of place, and I do, you'll be happy you came here.
I came and got their Steak & Frites with salad instead of fries. I got the steak sauce on the side, and it was mediocre. I never understood why people would cover their $33 steak in 50c BBQ sauce. The steak itself was great, but a little on the salty side.
The salad was a decent enough portion, but it was also a $3 substitution. It came with radish, cherry tomatoes, bacon, asparagus, and some type of mustard crouton thing that was quite good. The steak and salad was definitely on the pricey side, costing more than the keg, and I would take the keg quality for sure.
I also tried a bit of their cheddar sausage from their cheddar board, and it was really quite good.
The service was fairly slow, but the place was packed, so that is a little more understandable. However, I never got offered a refill on my water.
Overall, I would come back, but I wouldn't bother with the steak again for the price.
Great beer selection! Pricey but worth it if you wan to try some of Europes great beers on tap.
I would avoid the food though. It is not worth the $ for such small portions of frozen food that have been warmed up (not cooked) in a deep fryer.
We were there last night, I had mussels and fries the mussels were excellent. The people with me also enjoy there food..
One mistake in food that was delivers to our table but waitress came and apologies for the mistake and give us a good explanation .
While waiting for a table, we were offered sample beer from their "Featured Items" menu, which is pretty neat. Food selection is limited, and a bit on the pricier end, but overall good. What you are really there for is the beer selection. They have an interesting collection of import beer from around the world, but be prepared to pay $10+ for a pint unless you stay local. Overall good, wouldn't make it my regular drinking establishment though.
Sparks St Has a New Hot Spot!. I've lived in Ottawa for quite some time and Sparks has always been fairly quiet at night. But the Bier Markt this past Saturday night was packed. It took a while to get a table but we were invited to go to the bar and have a drink. There was an absurd number of beers on the menu but a server walking by helped my friend and I pick something out and didnt rush us even though she looked pretty busy before we flagged her down. We got a beer called Fruli and a Cider called Brickworks. When we did get a table there was a band that was surprisingly good and we had white cheddar dip and jalapeño cheese curd sausage sliders and more beer. Everything was delicious, the food came quick and seemed fresh. All in all we had a great evening. Sparks has a new hidden gem!
Great Atmosphere, Food & Service. We were greeted and seated immediately, the interior design is interesting and comfortable. Our server Ellen paid attention and was friendly. The food was relatively priced, my girlfriend and I each had 2 drinks, shared an app, 2 main courses and a dessert, and it was just under $100 which is what you should expect. The Trappe beer was awesome, the duck wings were excellent, the schnitzel was a little thin but the sauce and berries made up for it. Spatzel good, flammekueche good, apple dessert took a few extra minutes but it was also worth it. No Complaints, will eat there again.
Great Experience!. Great ambiance, live music, delicious food. Loved it!
Went on Friday night and the place was packed. We still got a table within minutes. They have over 150 beers on their menu. I tried the poutine tour (3 different kinds of poutines), they were good, but besides the meat served on top, it's essentially the same poutine. I thought the portion was a bit much for one person. Cheese curds are on the scarce side though. Also had the congo mussels and those were amazing. The broth was the best - I slurped it with the empty shells. They also had a live band and a small dance floor. Our waitress was really good. Great place!
Been here twice. Love the beer selection and the service is excellent. Have only had food once but really enjoyed it. The merchant burger made with wagyu beef and served med rare was very good. At 10 oz I found it a bit much in terms of size but the flavour and texture were great. So good I didn't add any condiments. Great place. Sparks needs some better places like this!
Great food and a wide selection of beers. Had dinner the night before and came by the next day for a beer and snack.
The schnitzel was delicious. Our group ordered different burgers and all gave good reviews.
Delirium Bites and Duck Wings were amazing too!
Stopped by bier markt for lunch and patio drinks a few weeks ago. Pretty decent food and a great selection of beer. At lunch, I ordered the Brie burger which was pretty standard fare. Could have been more flavourful in my opinion.
Came back for patio drinks and had a great time. I had their sweet and sour flight and really enjoyed it! The delirium red fruit ale was my favorite so I got another glass of it. The duck wings are also the perfect snack!
4 years ago I arrived in Ottawa with my family and the 1st place we went to was the Bier Markt. Today as a coincidence we got there again. Nice beer, and excellent service!!!
Delicious food and very helpful staff. Our waitress was the very best.
Went here for dinner with my partner, the food was incredible and so was the atmosphere. I had the duck wings and schnitzel and was blown away with how well they were cooked and the amount of flavour they had. The bier options were also unique and delicious. 10/10 would recommend!
Fantastic experience, excellent service and yummy food. We brought Ace Spade Rally group of 80 people and they treated us like we were family. This will always be my goto place for the rally in future visits to Ottawa. Kudos to the professionalism of Peter. One of the best in the industry.
I've been visiting this location for the last 12 years and it has been a staple in my trips. The location is excellent, the food is classic pub food, the service is always with a smile and the drinks never disappoint.
