Review Grill 41 Restaurant - Ottawa

To say this restaurant has an adequate breakfast would be overly generous. My recommendation: go somewhere else or one better, save your money and make your own breakfast at home—you’d do a better job. You might think that the restaurant in the Lord Elgin hotel would be a real treat. We went there for Father’s Day, and it was by far the worst breakfast we’ve had in Ottawa in recent years. The eggs Benedict I ordered off the menu was cold, and the English muffin with soggy. The hashbrowns were also cold. Others at the table ordered the buffet. It was nothing special, and the eggs and other items were also cold. Also, for such a beautiful heritage building, the restaurant had no ambience. I hate providing negative reviews, but it bothers me more to think that someone else might spend the money that we did this morning. Maybe they’re having staffing issues, I don’t know, but I wouldn’t risk it.

Very cute place to go for a nice dinner. We unfortunately had a limited menu for Valentine's day so can't really give an accurate review of the location. However, based on my visit the place was clean, waitress was very sweet and attentive. The food came out at an appropriate pace but keep in mind we were only 3 couples at the restaurant on that day. I will admit that parking situation was inconvenient. I would imagine during the convoy or even on a regular busy day in that area. My dish which was a pasta plate from the chef was tasty and filling. I will say this place is not really suited for random casual dining. The atmosphere is more of a business casual, get-together and dates.

Such a good bar experience!! My parents often come to Ottawa to visit me here and normally stay at the Westin. Changed it up this time and stayed at the Lord Elgin so we went to the bar for a few drinks. Sue was our bartender and was literally the nicest and most attentive tender I've had in time!! Shared lots of stories and made us feel like we were the only customers in the building. Also made amazing drinks :) 110% recommended if your passing by and want a drink and some good company.

WARNING FOOD POISONING. Do not eat here. There was several issues when I came to Grill 41. To start, only one waiter was working which made the wait times ridiculous. I ordered the aged steak Mid Rare. Half of my steak was cooked for my desired temperature and the other half was RAW. I couldn’t eat half the steak. The vegetables came out cold on the plate AND they forgot an entire portion of the dish the sweet potato purée which I will say was the highlight. After already complaining about the missing items I figured It just wasn’t worth getting my steak recooked so I left it. Later on in the day I threw up and was glued to the toilet seat which I thought was unrelated until the other guests I went with reported the same gastric symptoms I was experiencing. Overall there’s no reason to come here. The food isn’t good, the service isn’t either and the ambiance isn’t a selling point. You can find so much more for the same price and that won’t make you sick.

Ambience is pleasing. Service is somewhat slow with salad coming minutes before main course. No bread unless specifically ordered. The fish (that came with the fish & chips) was dry. Even the "home made tartar sauce" did not moisten the fish. Waiter was not readily available during the meal. First and last time at Grill 41.

This was my second visit. The last time was too long ago to comment on. Today, we were a convocation party of 8. Our servers, Christina and Chris, took good care of us. Sorry, no pics. The lunch menu was small and all the options were very good.

Food was good . Salmon was done excellent. But the service was extremely poor. The only person who really was keen to make our dinner good was the bartender. The waitresses - one was older lady , the other was young one - never brought what was asked . I had to go to the bar to inquire about our order . The older waitress ignored us like were were some kind of beggers from the street , even though we stayed at the hotel. The bartender went beyond his duties to get our order and bring us food. The chef and the barterner made sure my food was gluten free. I would give 5 stars for that.

Grill 41 claims to be a destination restaurant for steak and wine. I was looking forward to the experience and unfortunately left with a sense that it fell short of expectations. For the price, the steak was very average and the wine list less than impressive. The restaurant is conveniently located, but there are other options in the area in terms of overall dining experience.
