Review Vineyards Wine Bar Bistro - Ottawa

Cozy and inviting environment with a very good choice of beers and wines. The wine flights also allow you to taste various wines during the evening. We both had the steak and Fries which included Caesar Salad as our main. They were nicely prepared to our liking and we also had the mussels and calamari as our appetizer. We will definately be back again.

Wd had a steak, jambalaya and a bottle of wine last week. The jambalaya was awesome, and seafoods inside was so fresh. However, the plate of steak was cold, so it's hard to enjoy it for a long time while drinking wine. The steak gets cold easily.

What a fun little spot! Great atmosphere, and our bartender was a blast (Michelle, I believe?) With wine flights, charcuterie, and live jazz, what’s not to love? Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back when I’m in Ottawa next.

Had thai curry mussels, beet & goat cheese salad, and shrimp linguini. Great staff, and really flavorful food. Loved the place!
Meredith Ball
Cozy spot with pleasant service. We tried the wine flights and enjoyed our dinner. The jambalaya was deliciously spicey with a generous portion of seafood. The steak was also very good.

The place has a good menu with nice variety. It was pretty easy for everyone in my group to pick something he/she likes. It also has great ambience and everyone enjoyed it.

A great venue for jazz! I was fortunate enough to hear Alex Lopez, a guitarist and singer with significant talent, as he demonstrated his skills last evening. He has a wide repertoire and performs it with heart. The wait staff is friendly and efficient, with ready smiles and the ability to converse without holding anyone up. Thanks to Stephanie and Elodie for rounding out a great evening! A great selection of brews too!
Natalia Korobenko
Really nice cozy place, unique atmosphere. But the table wasn't the cleanest and was a bit sticky. But the food is delicious and the service was good.
Monica Allan
Love this place. The staff are very knowledgeable. The food and wine are all outstanding. I just wish you still had the smoked chicken poutine. PS please update your menu online so others aren't led to believe you still have the old menu.

I love the opportunity to have flights of beer or wine. I recommend the Cajun seafood jambalaya...lots of seafood and spicy hot. Great food, great service, great ambiance.

My favourite and first stop place when I am in Ottawa. Very reasonably priced and the steak is always cooked to perfection and exactly how I ordered. The service is fast and always friendly and it is not a long wait for the food. The atmosphere is nice and it is a smaller restaurant. I am never disappointed with my meal here!

We are so glad to have found the perfect place to enjoy our last night in Ottawa. The excellent live jazz and cozy cellar atmosphere set the stage. We had fun choosing our wine and beer flights from the extensive Book offerings. Our $14 French fries were well worth every penny! And the service...outstanding! Anja was knowledgable regarding the drink offerings, was attentive even though it started to get busy and beyond all that, was entirely charming! Ottawa has a fine advocate in her. Thank you for a lovely evening!

Great chill place for some good food and drinks. Service is fast and friendly. A great place to visit if in downtown Ottawa.

Came here with my boyfriend for a quick dinner. Tried the $14 steak, fries and salad. It was great! Ryan was an awesome server, very knowledgeable, classy and accommodating! Would recommend! Thanks Ryan you made the experience great!

Love this place so much. Great food and even better staff. If you're looking for a great bevy ask Jackie. She knows her stuff!!

Expensive wines like pay 3 times a lcbo price. Food is reasonable but seems like make in microwave. Jazz music is the best thing there.
Louise DeHaas
This is the most romantic bistro in Ottawa. Been going here since I met my hubby. Celebrated our 15th last night with wine flights. Reasonably priced food and endless selection of drinks. Love it here!
Graham Thyst
Jacky was extremely helpful and an absolute pleasure to be served by. I would highly recommend.
Kimberly Reich

Awesome bar, quiet and dark. Great live jazz music and fantastic menu for wine and beer.

This is one of the best places in Ottawa! Jacky was great and made our night!

Jacqueline Bigras
Great wine and beer selection. Great food and service. Awesome jazz nights and daily specials!!!

Thai mussels wasn’t tasty. Flyings of wine contains a little bit sample, the whole wine flying is similar with a full glass.

I'm definitely planning to make Vineyards a regular stop for me. Fridays and Saturdays the oysters are only $1/shuck. The oysters are decent, not as good as Whalesbone, but for a buck a shuck I really can't complain. They have this amazing fried camembert with blueberry that is just to die for, and a fried goat cheese salad that is amazing as well. Get the wine flights too, it's an amazing deal - for ~$15 you can try 3 different wines. You can also do the same thing with beer flights (6 different beers). I'd love to go back for jazz night, unfortunately there was no live music when I went.

Fairly unappealing as someone who doesn't enjoy wine, and without this selling point the restaurant doesn't stand out very much. The tortellini in gorgonzola cream sauce was good and they provided a surprising amount of chicken, though I found myself more drawn to the fresh baguette with well-seasoned dipping oil that accompanied my meal. To my surprise the steak was cooked nicely with the fourteen dollar fries despite the strange name. What really turned me off however was the entire bench of my booth jolting every time the customers behind me got up or moved around, which didn't seem like a huge issue at first but became increasingly annoying as I ate; perhaps it was naive of me to think that a pricier establishment would have yielded a finer dining experience.
Generically Honest
Great selection of wine, but that's about it. The food menu is small and very underwhelming. I got the steak and fries which was your average frozen food reheated. Others got salads and pasta dishes but they were way overpriced for what arrived at the table.

Nice atmosphere and great wine list could not make up for questionable service. Although seated at the bar, was never given cutlery and napkins to enjoy the food, and later was served cake on a serviette...! Live jazz would have been better if it was either louder or a better layout to see the artist. Would not repeat.

Wine and beer selection: Very good.

Charcuterie board: Underwhelming.

Atmosphere: Nice. It’s quite cute.

Service: Bad. Our server was slow, inaccurate, and snarky. If I was to return and she was assigned our table, I would definitely leave. Hopefully she is the exception. She was slow to take our first order and then brought us the wrong thing (3 dozen oysters rather than 1 dozen oysters). That in itself is fine (sometimes a server mishears you), but acting annoyed, not apologizing, and even inferring that we were partly to blame is unacceptable. Further, we asked for bread for the charcuterie board, and when it had not come for over 20 minutes I politely asked again. At that point she took a tone with me told me that she was very busy because it’s Friday night and so it’s to be expected. Another 15 minutes go by and no bread. No one has a drink at this point, our friends are finished their food, and we are still waiting for bread so that we can eat our meats and cheeses. We finally ask a different server and it arrives immediately. Our server never came by to take an order for second beverages, nor apologized for her absence, the incorrect order, or the incorrect bill she gave us. She did, however, find time to tell me again that she was busy and we should expect to wait. If this is the standard of service there, then I don’t think she’ll have to worry about busy Friday nights for long.

Went last night to hear the live jazz music and had some great sea food the wine was great.

Luv this place. I love the warm atmosphere in this cozy bistro and the friendly staff. I go here several times and once I had four different staff ask if I need anything. Great wine and beer selection and the food is good, menu respectably varied.

Visited on a Friday night while in the area from Gatineau. Our waitress explained how to order our drinks at the bar, English pub style. Wine and beer lists are very comprehensive! We each ended up ordering flights of different kinds of wine to complement our meals. We each got a smoked chicken poutine, which contains a generous portion of chicken, crispy fries, a good sauce and balsamic drizzle on top. Very nice. I ordered seafood, and my fiancé had the lamb. Flavour of both dishes was very good, but the star of Vineyards is really the wine.
Chris Z
Their $12 French fries are one of the best dinner deals in the market.
Brian Segs
Jambalaya is simply amazing with the Californian wine flight!

Little gem!. Ate here last night! Service and food was awesome. Would say it is one of the best places I have eaten in Ottawa. Food was perfectly cooked and prices were fair. Biggest selection of beer I have ever seen.
Steve Charslton
Wine, wine, wine! And beer too!. What an amazing wine menu! From the award, framed at the entrance, this place seems to have one of the best wine lists in the world. I can believe it, there are wines I've never heard of. Nice thing is it's not snobby, you can chat with the bartender and he'll fix you up with something you'll like, but you don't need to know your "terroirs".

If you are into beer, I think you'll be pleased as well. There's an entire menu dedicated to beer!

The food menu is smaller, but that seems fitting with the size of the beverage menus. Great apps, the cheese board is killer (I think there were 6 cheeses!), and I had curried lamb as my meal. I was urprised it was on the menu, but it sure was good!

Great service means it was all wrapped in pretty paper, so to speak. I will be back!

Had dinner there Saturday July 14. Wanted to have the $12 fries with free steak but opted to pay a bit more for the steak in hopes of having a better meal. We ordered the $20 cut with garlic mash......big mistake! We ordered our meat medium and it came to us well done! We were assured that the potatoes were "real" but they tasted like they came out of a box, maybe they were real at one time. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, no excuse for this food to be served like this.
Guess if you like a choice of 300 beers or 200 wines it may be the place to go, but eat before you go.
Jenn
Great for drinks, not for food!. If you are looking for a place to have a great meal....do not go here.

After ordering, we were brought over bread and a seasoned dipping oil- this was actually very good. The olive oil tasted great, and the seasonings were a great touch.

I ordered the sirloin steak that came with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables. The presentation was not good at all, everything almost spilled over the plate. The steak was over cooked and very tough, I had asked for it medium. The mashed potatoes were terrible- bland and watery.

The service was great, up until I complained. I mentioned that the steak was over cooked and asked if they were real mashed potatoes- I was told that they are made fresh and mashed every day- which I think is complete BS. You are steps away from the farmers market- USE REAL POTATOES!!!!!
Our server didn't bother to do anything to make us happy. We were not looking for a free meal, but at least apologize or something!!!!!

One thing to keep in mind, this is an English Style Bar/Pub, you have to get up and go to the bar to get your own drinks. They have a very extensive list of beers- but I will go to Pub Italia instead!!!

I will never return here again, not even for drinks. I would suggest you do the same.

P.S... the decor is tacky too.

Really suprise by the taste of the food and really good choice of wine !!!!

Great Wine Sampling- Try the crabcakes!!. Great little gem hidden under the fish market in the Byward market. Their wine list is fabulous and all you have to do is tell them what you like and don't like and just like magic you get something great! Their crabcakes are amazing a must try! They specialize in seafood and have some really delicious choices. Cozy atmosphere and great staff that really know their stuff.

You Gotta Check This Place Out!!!. Had dinner there Friday night. At first I was worried when the waitress told me I had to go up to the bar to get my drinks but I am sure glad I did! I am not much of a wine drinker but want to branch out. The bartender Nick was amazing in his knowledge and I could really tell he was giving me the best wine for me. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable and over all it was such a great night. Everyone was warm and inviting and really could tell they liked their jobs. I will definitely be back!

Terrific. Had a great time here, Sunday evening dinner with great service and food, as a bonus there was a complimentary cheese bar and a live jazz band around 8ish. Will be eating here again.

Thanks,
Owen

A great surprise not having been before. Really warm and comfy, nice people and good menu with huge wine and scotch selection

Not a good impression. While I am not a fan of the "get it yourself" drinks (is this a pub or a restaurant?), the wine was enjoyable. However, I would not recommend this as a good estabishment to have dinner. The service was deplorable. We waited almost an hour to order, and one of our starters did not arrive until almost an hour after that. The premises seemed dirty (dust everywhere) and the napkins were stained (ew!). We won't be back.
Mimina82
Not impressive but still good. I was a bit shocked at how the waitress told us the drinks have to be fetched at the bar on your own, if you want food ill take your order. she didnt even offer water, but in any case we got our drinks (great beer selection!) the bartender was nice and even brought us water to our table a the end. We had to wait for server forever even though there was only one more visible table with people...since we arrived quite early but the food was very tasty although I think they should bring it on a bigger plate instead of putting the steak over your fries...thats just wrong. But for some reason I think I will be back, Maybe they just had a bad day
Lara
Recommend!. Great service and knowledgable staff. The bartender recommened the perfect wine pairings with our food orders. The steak and fries was good, and the price unbeatable! Will definetely be going back.

Not sure if it was because was Friday but the service was piss-poor. I had made a reservation and the table was very large for only two people. I had to wave down the wait staff to ask for water and then later ask for someone to take our order. The bread seemed stale, and it took quite a bit of time before the entree arrived. When a server was asked about the statue of our order, he gave some improptu answer without actually checking. On top of it all, the food was not very good or flavourful. Moreover, I was not asked once whether I wanted my glass refilled. It make me wonder how the place has survived so long!?? I certainly will not be returning.

Not a fan of the get your own drinks. Am not a fan of get your own drink. Or the server bumping a handful of glasses causing a lot of spillage.

had the Tortellini, seemed ok. her the halibut stuffed with crab was overly fishy..

Service was cover by nearly everyone. wasn't really sure whom we were dealing with.

the live music was great (except for the way-too-early xmas bits). when he was on break, the music switch to something like a tarantino film sound

opted to go promptly to Must for dessert.

Steak and fries. I had the $12 french fries with a free side of steak (or something like that). It was good for the price. Next time I would probably just do 2 and for the price I would be happy. Lots of great beer on tap.

Perfect Portion of $12 Fries. Visited Vineyards last night with a friend. We were happy to escaping the humidity in this basement restaurant, one dripping in European charm. We tried the well-balanced Stilton starter plate, followed by the perfectly portioned $12 fries. My rare steak was pleasantly tender. We enjoyed our wine pairings, and appreciated that wine could be ordered by the small/large glass and bottle. Will certainly be back in the future either in a pair or small group to try other menu items and different wines and beers.

Stars. I enjoy the get your own wine bar service and the food is fun and tasty. Seems to be a trendy spot in the market, last time I was there I bumped in to Cuba Gooding Jr :)

Great Place. Had the best meal in Ottawa here. The place was wonderful, food was great and the beers were too many to count. Go there and have a great time, some great food and try some of the beers or wines that you do nott see very often.
Mikerocosmos
Good beer selection, terrible service. This place has a great selection of beers but sadly some of the worst service. Beware the disgruntled barman.
John Thompson
Vineyards describes itself as a Wine Bar and Bistro but it also serves an impressive number of beers from around the world (more than anywhere else in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, they claim), and there is also a pretty decent selection of single malt Scotches, although not nearly as extensive as at the nearby Highlander Pub . I make it a point of stopping the place every time I am in Ottawa, but, other than a cold plate appetizer I shared with my wife a few years ago, this recent visit is the first time I have ever gone there for a meal...

Home of the “$12 French Fries (with a magnificent side order of sirloin steak and Caesar salad)” and a beer menu that requires a second visit just to get to the end of the list! Situated on the same corner as two other restaurants, Vineyards has the feeling of being a bit hidden away in the city. Victoria ordered a Hoegaarden beer along with the Cajun Creole Belgian Style Mussels which comes with their (amazing) french fries and mayonnaise. I ordered a Stella Artois beer along with the Vineyards Belgian Style Mussels and we both got the deep fried Calamari with sour cream dill sauce. One special note about this place is that you have to walk up to the bar to order your drink, water is also available there when your thirsty for a refill. This is due to the tremendous selection and expertise that the bar staff have regarding pairings and beer choices. A server
