Delicious good and the service is excellent. The whole staff is very helpful and always happy to make suggestions of their best dish.
My husband and I came across Host India in a karma kind of way but that is a long story.
We went to eat on a friday night and there you go, the two owners are working. That was already impressive.
The service was great and the food outstanding. I have to say, I have never tasted better nan bread.I highly recommend the Lamb Rogan Josh mmmmmmmmmmm so incredible.
Try it, you won't be disappointed !!
Heard great things and decided to give it a try. The Sunday dinner buffet is outstanding. Every dish is unique in flavour and fresh! The butter chicken is incredible.
Staff are super friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back many times. Well worth the drive from Barrhaven.
Excellent Indian food. Butter chicken is one of the best I’ve ever had. The curry dishes are superb. I’ll be a regular now and I hope you like me.
The food is always fresh and hot, absolutely delicious. The staff is attentive and personable, and pays great attention to the presentation of each meal. A comfortable atmosphere, and the staff always takes the opportunity to engage with us in very warm and hospitable conversation. We took two of our children there last evening, and our meals were outstanding, and the staff went to extra lengths to make certain we were satisfied with everything. Our "go-to" Indian restaurant! Best naan bread, ever!
Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is excellent and super friendly. I would eat there every day if I could lol.
Absolutely amazing place. The staff is absolutely amazing as well. The environment is welcoming and classy. Love it.
Great food and service. I've inly gone for the all you can eat buffet but I am sure their regular dinner is just as delicious.
The buffet are always great, sunday is heaven, they make an extra effort, delicious, flavorful, your mouth is watering, ttaste...
Good food , excellent service, friendly staff 100 out of 100
Great food and good service
their buffet has good choice of Indian good dishes
Worth visiting.
Outstanding! Some of the best Indian food in the city. Excellent service. Great buffet as well, although I prefer the menu
The best Indian food in town consistent high quality food, friendly service, clean restrooms (which is quite telling of the sanitary vi fictions in a restaurant kitchen), good value for money and relatively pleasant ambiance for a nice evening.
Amazed by the food and the Staff of Host india! Lot's of choice for vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Apart from the fact that this successful, reliable, clean and friendly restaurant never fails to make fantastic food, the CHICKEN MADRAS AND NAAN ARE SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!
Great atmosphere! Love the lunch buffet, small selection of foods but dont let that detour you the quality is AMAZING! The price is great too :)
The food at Host India is amazing. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, everything on the menu is worth trying at least once. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the buffets.
Excellent! I got takeout here for the first time and it was great, I got butter chicken while on the go and I was a little skeptical about the price (18$) until I saw the size, one order is enough for a couple or small family and definitely delicious!
We went in on a Friday night and had a Beef Madras and a Punjabi Thali. The service was fast and the food delicious. It is a good portion and great variety. New favorite Indian place.
Visited Host India for the lunch buffet with my husband recently. Great option for lunch in this Neighbourhood. Great selection of dishes, with a large crowd of customers, meaning the food was continually being turned over. Good assortment of mild and hot dishes, so easy to accommodate those that cannot eat spicy foods. Tandoori chicken had a lot of chicken on the bone and a nice smoke to the flavour. Watch in the window as the cook skewers the chicken and makes the naan. Good option for lunch, and good selection for $14.99. Will return when we are in the Neighbourhood at lunch.
My fiancé and I went for the lunch buffet. There were a good amount of dishes to try plus a salad bar and a desert bar. The dishes were flavorful with big chunks of meat or paneer/lentils. I was happy with each selection I made and stuffed to the brim when I left :) I also had the mango lassi which is a mango/yogurt drink that I always love. The desert bar was great but could have used a few more fruit in the fruit section (there were only oranges).
The butter chicken was pretty good. We loved it!!! Lamb and beef were spicy and great! Foods were perfect but service was mediocre . I think we over tipped. We went during saturday between 1130 to 2pm for lunch. The choices for the buffet was good. No need to tip 15% at a buffet style .
Very good butter chicken the best. The total order was excellent can't remember all the names but very tasty. If you want to try or you like Indian food it is the place to go
Went on a week night. The place is fairly large but was not very busy. We ordered the butter chicken and the muttar paneer. Both were very good, but I found the chicken not spicy enough to my liking - I wish the waiter would have asked our preference in regards to the spiciness level. Overall, a good place.
Great food and service! The owner made excellent food recommendations as this was our first time here. Will be here again with the family for this and the buffet
We got take out from here. Large portions. Great flavours. The sauces that came with the veggie pakoras were so good I dipped my naan in them because I had leftovers! Would return & recommend.
"A Nice Gem". We have tried almost every indian restaurant in ottawa, and this one is by far the best. The decor is nice, and the service is friendly and attentive.Everything we have tried on the menu is great. The food tastes very fresh, authentic, and has layered flavours.Especially the Butter Chicken,Lamb madras and Palak Paneer.Mango Lassi are our favourites.Highly recommended from value standpoint.
Mouth From The South
+4.5
Just had lunch buffet here. .... Just had lunch buffet here.
Very very tasty Indian food. Friendly attentive staff. Cozy Indian inspired decor. Open Concept Kitchen.
Well worth the lunch buffet price. A buffet is a buffet after all.
Highly recommended.
Great food, average service. My Indian friend brought me to this restaurant. The food amazed me. I especially love the spinach and Indian cheese, and the butter chicken. I heard that the butter chicken is the must-have when you come to Host India. However, the service was not as great as the food. It was only one person on Friday night serving more than 10 tables. I could tell it was a tough job to serve many people at the same time. However, it was not the excuse to express the impolite attitude to the customer when they have question for you. We were surprised when he replied us "I dont have time for your question. Choose the dish and call me". I guess the manager should do a better job in either recruiting more servers or training his server to be polite even if he is under high pressure
Craving Indian food, this really hit the spot. Tried this place for the first time, thanks to the reviews on urban spoon. It definitely did not disappoint, and I ordered the platter that gave me a little of everything, I had some tandoori chicken, with the Lamb vindaloo (big meaty chunks of meat in a satisfying spicy stew), the server recommended I get the chickpea soup to go with it (which was delicious), the naan bread is HUGE, at least a foot in length, and so soft and came out hot. My friend ordered butter chicken with her platter, it was so creamy, and again, the pieces of white chicken meat were big cubes. The rice pudding definitely hit the spot at the end. Very cooling and sweet on the tongue thats been through some hot and spicy encounters.
I definitely had my full and ordered the butter chicken for take out for my family at home.
Interior decor was lovely, very big space, and server never let my glass of water go empty.
Best Indian in Ottawa. This place is incredible! Food is consistently delicious and always flavourful. i've had many dishes, but I have to say my favourites are the butter chicken, lamb or beef biryani, beef madras, any of the paneer dishes and of course the naan bread. While the service isn't always the warmest (the woman who works there is quite nice though) the awesomeness of the food makes up for it. The prices can be a little high, but we often get the dishes to go and have a full dinner for the next night as well! I would definitely recommend this to anyone craving some indian :)
Impressed!. Have has host india's food at numerous events in the city including at a few weddings with over 300 guests and wow! The food is always consistently delicious and is bursting with flavour! Food is definitely 5 star quality and i would highly recommend for someone who is looking for real authentic indian food in the ottawa area.
After searching for good Indian food for the past 5 yrs, Host India is by far our favorite!
I do feel there should be more meat in the dishes for the $$$ you pay, but otherwise, the food is tasty, meat isn't fatty.
Amazing. We love, love, LOVE this place. The food is the best indian we've had in Ottawa. The owners are kind and remember us. We celebrated my sister's Sweet Sixteen in their event room which is totally separated from the restaurant and the staff was great.
Great food, excellent service. My family and I dined there last night and had elevated expectations based on the reviews. Fortunately, the food was as described. Very tasty, delicious in fact. The Goa fish dish was one of my favourite. Though, it seemed that the portions would not feed all 5 of us, there were leftovers. I'd certainly return!
Authentic indian!. Excellent food! I like the buffet but a la carte is even better! u can also watch the cook preparing meals through a glass, very interesting watching him making naan bread on the Indian oven! great service all the time, since the seating area is large and open i find it more suitable if you re going out with a big group I won't recommend it for a date or a private or quite dinner
Tasty Lunch Buffet. I tried their lunch buffet and i was pleasantly impressed. The vegetable and meat dishes were really tasty and they had a good variety. The salad selection is very basic but that didn't matter at all because everything there tasted good.
fast and friendly service, i will be back.
Good indian buffet. I've been here a number of times over the years - always on weekends for the lunch buffet. Good selection of food and reasonably priced. You can see the chef prepare food using the tandoori oven. My only quibble would be that they also include the thigh piece (not just drumsticks) for the tandoori chicken.
Excellent Na'an, Awesome Pakora. We eat here almost once a week. We love their na'an (best we've found so far in Ottawa), and always order their chicken pakora - excellent flavor, and wonderful cuts of meat. We usually order vindaloo and masala, although they've recently added a rogan josh that we're fond of as well. We've found on past occasions that our food wasn't as spicy as we would have liked it (it sometimes tends to waver on the spiciness - some days it's wonderful, some days it's not there) but now we ask the staff for "extra spicy" and we get exactly what we're looking for.
Staff is attentive with refilling water and drinks, but not so much that you feel they're hovering. They're also super friendly :)
Dinner at Host India. I so love going to Host India! This is really the finest Indian cuisine that I know in this city. The staff and so helpful and friendly, you feel genuinely welcomed. The food is so wonderful - it is my personal goal to work my way through the entire menu!
Best Butter Chicken (everyone's favourite) EVER! All the dishes are wonderful - the meats are tender and moist, prawns cooked perfectly, sauces so beautifully made - lots of care and attention here. And I cannot resist the parathas, so rich and lovely. Oh dear - now I have a craving... see you soon, Host India!
I have been to Host India over 20 times and have never had a bad meal. Food is delicious and the service is always fast and friendly. I highly recommend the garlic naan, butter chicken and anything from the tandoor oven.
Best Tandoori in Town. While their buffet is delicious, our family favourite is the tandoor grill - chicken, lamb, salmon, all marinated to perfection and cooked in the tandoor oven. And we like to end with the mango lassi drink. Absolutely recommend it. (Bonus, they also serve halal food!)
Another great Indian place. Great food, and some really interesting takes on common dishes as well as some unique dishes, too. Food is always good and the portions are really generous.
Amazing. Coming from Vancouver, this is the only Indian restaurant in Ottawa that I've found that is comparable. A little expensive, but soooo good. The meat is top quality, no cheap fatty cuts, even on the lamb. Also it's BYOB - $10 corking fee.
I love this place. I have been going to Host India for many years now..The food is always good and the service is excellent. My kids love the weekend lunch buffet..yea butter chicken!
Excellent food. The best in Ottawa.Went for dinner with my family on the recommendation of my colleague. The food is above par, service is excellent.Ambience is good and yet simple . Tried lamb madras, paneer madras, zeera alu with tiger beer. You can actually watch the cook make fresh nans and tandoori dishes.Very clean compared to many typical Indian restaurants. Will come back.
Best indian in town. So far the best Indian food we have had in town. Never had a bad meal.
My favourite Indian restaurant by far! Butter chicken is made with real tandoori chicken (cooked traditionally) and is super flavorful. Appetizers are delicious and the curries are really tasty. The naan has to be the best part by far though. It's made fresh to order and you can watch them putting in the oven (kiln? Not sure what its called). Would recommend this place over and over again.
HOSTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. My first 5 stars I believe.
Seriously hit the mother load here.
There's certainly a lot of pretty damn good stuff out there but the Host India surpassed anything we've found thus far.
Chicken Tikka Masala was the best I have eaten anywhere in the US & Canada .
Wife ordered the Chicken Madras and she licked it down to the copper bowls.
We will certainly be frequenting this establishment again. Their lunch buffet looks like a steal at $12 which we will be visting again this week.
Oh and for an Indian, the ambiance was also pretty good, most of the places we eat at have a solid gastronomic offering but also the ambiance of a school dinner room..
Not this one, the Host India could easily be at home in Market area yet not pretentious at all so with jeans and a T we felt very much at home..
A very satisfied customer !
One of the best in Ottawa. This is the place you go to if you want to try Indian food for the first time. The flavors, the selection, the ambiance and the quantity of food are all fantastic. I have tried the lunch buffet and ordered la carte for dinner as well. The quantity of food you get is incredible. Never have friends and I managed to finish any of our take out in one sitting. There is always the following day's lunch to look forward to. Definitely worth a trip to Vanier.
A few friends and I went to host India for the lunch buffet, it was very good!! their butter chicken and naan bread are delicious! the food was fresh and hot. I thought there would have been more choices, but what they had was still good! definately worth a try :)
Excellent food - great buffet. Went there twice and both times really enjoyed the food.
Even the desserts are so tasty. Great choices and good, quiet atmosphere. One of the best Indian food in Ottawa.
Would certainly recommend.
Excellent. Best Indian in the city! Always good and reliable. All the vegetable dishes I have ordered have been amazing! Lots of flavour and great service!
The best indian restaurant in Ottawa, by miles..... The most authentic food, the best ambience and a very decent level of service. Try their mix platter for appetizers, butter chicken or lamb Rogan Josh for entrees, try their garlic naan or Keema naan to go with food.
Best Indian food I've had so far!. I can't say I've tried many Indian restaurants but this one is absolutely amazing! I've been to their buffet and tried many dishes. They were all so delicious!!! The best part was when I was introduced to PAKORAS... OMG they're so tasty!
I also like the fact that it's an open kitchen for all to see.
Will definitely go back many, many times!
Great Buffet. What I didn't realize when I came here for lunch on Sunday was that it was going to be a buffet. I usually stay away from buffets, the food more often than not being of a lower quality from my experience. We were already seated and drinks ordered by the time I realized what I was in for so I was committed by this point. Thankfully Host India quickly dispelled my buffet fears.
The options out on the buffet table ranged from vegetarian dishes to my much loved meat dishes. This was also a great opportunity to try out some dishes that I might not order otherwise. Once I realized that the food was actually very good I did just that.
I can honestly say that I was not disappointed with a single dish, from either the veggie or meat options. All meats were tender and delicious. My favorites were the vegetable pakoras, the butter chicken, the lentils and as always the naan.
Three of us ate our fill and then some on a bill of $48 before tip, I say it was a steal. Host India has not only changed my view on what a buffet can be but it has given me a new favorite spot to eat Indian cuisine. I can't wait to return.
Best Indian food in Ottawa. Naan bread are delicious and butter chicken is incredible!
Great, fresh food, attentive service. Haven't tried the buffet yet, but having gone there 3 times for dinner I can def say this is one of my favs in the city hands down. Have had no problems so far and it's always enjoyable.
Hidden Treasure on Montreal Rd.. I had driven by Host India a hundred times before finally stopping by for dinner. Very nice space inside with a substantial menu and fair prices. The tandoori dishes are very good, plus you can watch them cooking the skewers and naan - a great diversion for hungry kids.
Wow! Ultra clean, great and fast service and amazing food ! Best indian restaurant around!
Having spent 10 days in India, I was amazed by the food quality. Service was great and not pricy. Will definitely go back and recommend it. Best Indian in Ottawa so far.
Very goog and clean!. What a nice change to go to a clean indian resto.
The food is rich and decadent. Great space inside, you would nenver think that when you see it from Montreal Rd.
Nice people, good food, good prices. The fresh baked naan is to die for!!
Very good!. We have heard nothing but great things about Host India since moving to the neighborhood and finally tried it out a couple of weeks ago.
Overall, I'd say that the quality of the dishes is very, very good. We had some Veg Pakaroa to start and the serving was immense! Along came a giant Naan, and some delectable condiments ... and really we didn't need anything else.
But of course we did.
We had the Lamb Madras and the Shrimp Korma. Both of which were very good. We also had the Mango Lassi to drink - which was delicious.
Service was very attentive and our server was very warm and knowledgeable. Looking around and overhearing them with customers, you could tell that this place has been a neighborhood institution for a long time.
All in all, I thought the restaurant was great. It was, as usual with a lot of Indian restaurants, a tad on the pricey side - simply because we ordered many things. But they do have a good fixed menu - which maybe we'll try next time.
We have heard great things about the Lunch Buffet, too, and should try that!
Probably the best in Ottawa. The food is exceptional, probably the best Indian food in Ottawa. I've been here many time, tried many different dishes, never disappointed. Try the mixed grill, it's my favorite.
Host India. The best indian restaurant I've visited so far. The decor and food is superbe. Not so pricey either. I love their lunch buffet ; it's frresh and good selection.
Got some Indian food for supper tonight from Host Indian. The whole family (including the babies) really enjoyed the food. We got an order of butter chicken, which was mild on the spice, and a winning dish for Illyana. We also got an order of chicken Biryani, delicious but wish there were more fried onions, love me those fried onions lol. We got a few different sides, meat samosas, vegetables samosas, a Kachumbar salad and their famous house made Naan bread. The meal was perfect and we have so much leftovers. Now I understand what colleagues and friends have been talking about, they make great tasting Indian food. If you are craving Indian, you need to check them out! #supportlocal #ottawafoodiestalker
I’m usually not that easy to give 5 stars, specially to a restaurant. But this place deserves it.
When I first got inside and saw their prices, I immediately said that this place is way overpriced. But I still tried it so I ordered chicken madras… and boy it was really damn good. I don’t how they did it, but it was good. The servings was big too so since I was by myself, I couldn’t finish the whole thing.
I’m gonna be back here to try their other good before I go back home to Toronto.
I have ordered from Host India many times and I am always so impressed with the freshness of the food. Their butter chicken and curries have so much flavor they are incredible. The samosas are delicious. Everything is so good ans the portions are very generous! Anyway try it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
I like this restaurant, even in this hard times, they are cooking very decent food. And they cook fast. Portions are more than generous.
You mish try there aloo gobi or aloo zhira, they are the best!
Absolutely the best Indian restaurant in Ottawa. And if you're lucky enough to have Ali as your waiter, you will have an even better experience! The butter chicken is a must!
Delicious, generous portions (and they wrap up your order with so much care!) Tried their Mulligatawny Soup. The flavours transported me to another world! So good. Also ordered the Butter Chicken with rice and a side of garlic naan. My husband and I didn’t talk the entire meal except to repeatedly say how tasty everything was. Highly recommend.
The BEST Indian restaurant in the area by far !!
Make sure you get the Fish Pekora (Highly Recommended). Every single other dish is delicious !!
Butter chicken , chicken Mughlai , chicken Beryani and Naan bread !!
Service was super fast , food was hot and delicious , Ali took good care of us !!
Highly highly highly recommended
