Review Metropolitain Brasserie - Ottawa

Eric Cameron (Throne of Games)
This was a good restaurant to try out. It is not a place we'd likely go a second time because there was nothing that really made it stand out but it was a nice evening. Nice menu with many pub style foods and upscale pub foods available. Everything was made well and the servers were fantastic.

First of all, if you’re a seafood fan, you have to try their oysters! The sauces and horseradish that they come with are an absolute cherry on top. They also have an amazing cocktail selection - I am aiming to try all of them one by one! The food - portions, taste and presentation were top notch. The ambience was great and service was very quick and friendly. Will definitely go back for the oysters, and recommend to my family and friends when they visit from out of town!

This place has an amazing morning breakfast, the staff was number 1 and the food was perfectly presented. If you are Im Ottawa this is a must place to stop and eat. I don’t usually give very many five stars because there is always room for improvement, but this place really impressed me, from the time we got there to the time we left, never felt rushed to leave after we were done eating.

Fabulous, amazing variety. Had dinner with colleagues, everyone enjoyed the experience. The options on the menu we’re surprising and unique. Personally had a scallop crudo & the bacon wrapped monkfish, absolutely amazing. Others had braised lamb, baked and fresh oysters, duck confit… Just an amazing menu. Great wine list and local craft beers. This is a must try spot in downtown Ottawa.

It has a perfect location: In the heart of Bayward Market and close to Rideau Canal and Parliament. It has both nice indoor sittings and patio. Well, of course patio won't be suitable for winter time in Ottawa. The staff are very nice and pleasant; we had a really good time because of that. We ordered "Martini" for drinks, "Steak Frites" for entrée and "Flourless Chocolate Cake". The steak was perfectly cooked to medium and the fries were fresh. I enjoyed every bite of my meal.

Delicious food and great location too! Chantal is the one who assisted me today and make me happy just by her smile and vibe. I hope they could also put someone infront (front staff) with the same energy and accommodating vibe like Chantal.💞

Great service, food was not really good. Took way to long to get our order. Expansive hot chocolate made with powder and water and only tasted like warm water.
Amber Clouthier
My entree (fillet mignon) was cooked to perfection and the garlic potatoes were delicious. If you like sweet cocktails order a "Mon Cheri" and you'll be happy. My dessert (raspberry creme caramel) was missing a bit of tart contrast and my husband said his cake was good but could have been a little more moist. Good atmosphere and fantastic service. Overall a good dining experience.

Jonathan was amazing!! Our food was to die for! An amazing experience. The cheese and meat plate was killer!

Love Metro. Consistently great. Always. The patio experience is second to none. The kind of place you can spend for hours.

Always wonderful. My husband threw a surprise birthday dinner for me last night. As always the cocktails, wine and food were excellent. And the service. Brian is the best server in Ottawa!

Food was simply amazing and staff was very nice to us. A place I recommend and I will go back for sure.

Great food, service and ambience! Would love to see a menu de dégustation for all the great desserts. It's always so hard to choose!

Two nights in a row enjoyed delicious desserts & drinks with the family. Fantastic atmosphere, great service & desserts with drinks! We'll definitely come again when I'll visit Ottawa!

Excellent service, beau menu et nourriture excellente. Belle ambiance. Nous avons essayé plusieurs restaurant à Ottawa et celui là est devenu un de nos préféré

One of the best filet mignon I have ever had, perfect. Delightfully fresh stacked tomato salad, sweet sorbet. Staff are always professional, funny and engaging. Coffee is fresh!

Best Cobb Salad ever! Never disappointed - service, menu selections and food is always amazing! Great location as well.

It was a great experienced dining in this restaurant, very warm and cozy for the 2 of us. Excellent food like civeche, never tried them in some other restaurant. Yum! ☺☺☺

Un de mes restos favoris pour son ambiance bistro français élégant, sa nourriture, son superbe bar et ses employés syper gentils et souriants.

excellent meal last night. coq au vin with a lovely New Zealand Pinot Noir (thanks Bill for the recommendation)

Had to leave even before we were seated because the hostess was so rude and argumentative with my mother about which table we would choose (this in an empty house on a Sunday night). The Black Tomato got our business instead and was delightful. Weird that a restaurant in an area so dense with them would think they have the luxury of that kind of attitude.

Hill Hour is a perfect time to wind down from a long day at work - the Metropolitain Brasserie is the place to do it!

Great food Great restaurant Great service. Will be back again.

We held a reception for 90 people, and the food, service and setting are excellent. It's our third year hosting this annual event, and I'm booking the Metropolitain again for next year!

Went there for brunch today, very average restaurant for the following reasons : you never ever ever do eggs Benedict with an hash brown potato instead of English muffins, the home style potatoes were all different cuts and shapes, no consistency, very small portion for the muesli and slow service. Be your own judge but for me I won't be back.

I had high hopes for this place. The staff are very sweet but the food doesn't come up to the expectations and price. I feel I could of gone to a pub and gotten better presentation and tastier food. The oysters I had tasted fine, but nowhere close to Whalesbone oysters (which btw is amazing!) The poutine I had was basically mccains shoestring fries with three tbsp of gravy and a cheese curds. Not impressed for a poutine at this place. My friend had the burger but she it tasted bad that she couldn't finish it. She isn't picky btw, which surprised me. Her burger had nothing else to garnish the plate. A diner would have a much better presentation. I'm just so disappointed 😔 The wine was good though. Other than the wine and staff, the rest was not executed well. I didn't take any photos because I didn't feel like looking at the food again. They need a new chef for sure.

Always happy here. Hit them up for Hill Hour from 4-6 and get a great deal on oysters and shrimp. Awesome moules & frites, and the decadent double cheeseburger is my favourite.

If you're looking for drinks in the Market after work, I highly recommend it.

Beautiful patio and delicious food. I had the goat cheese salad and it was honestly spectacular! Even though it was most definitely not a salad. It was a huge flavorful chunk of breaded goat cheese between two tomato slices on top of a generous amount of tapenade with a sprinkle of greens on top so they could call it a salad. I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was so damn good. My fiancé had the seafood chowder and a sandwich (forget which one). The chowder was fantastic with a lot of seafood which is important and the sandwich was tasty and filling. We both left happy. And the patio was so pretty and Parisian feeling. Would definitely recommend.

Best place for mussels et frites. The seafood is fresh and well priced. Many things on the menu are good. Service is attentive. Go on a Friday during Hill Hour you will not be disappointed.

One of the worst experience I had in An Ottawa restaurant. We went on Friday night. We got bad service at the bar, meaning no refill, never ask what we wanted. Then once we got a Table, waited 45 min for apetizer. Hot chicken poutine, should never be called a poutine... really plain, 3 pieces of cheese, looked like the pees came from the freezer. There is more... They forgot our calamari entrée. Waiter tried to make up by promising a beer that we never had and charged the calamari anyway, which was under cook and not good. Never been asked if our food was ok, had to get ourself our coutellery, could see everybody else was getting service except us... have to ask twice for the bill in 25 min period while we could see other table were getting there's ! Bad service, really bad food. NOT WORTH THE PRICE !!!!
Costa
Moules et frites! Nice decor and good wine selection as well. Good rose choices. My frites were quite tasty and the mussels were very good with many choices of sauces that were all light enough Pernod one was nice texture although I would have liked some more zing.

Service was excellent. Atmosphere was very cozy. Music was a nice level. The food was phenomenal. Best oysters I have ever had!!! We had the lobster poutine (served with hollandaise instead of gravy... Delicious), calamari (nicely spiced!), frisée salad (perfectly poached egg and crispy bacon!), gnocchi (more veggies than gnocchi but still delicious). My favourite of the night was the steak tartare. Perfectly seasoned and a large portion. For all that and two large beers it came to $125. Very reasonably priced!! A must try in Ottawa.

An all time favorite in Ottawa. It definitely transports you directly to Paris. Their food is delicious, portions and prices are good. The ambiance is fun and its a busy spot for a reason. Their weekend brunches are the best in the area.
Hungry
Went for lunch. Oysters, tuna tartare, salad & wine. Fantastic. Oysters were fresh, well presented, tartare was spicy and tasty. Service good. Went for breakfast, service excellent, mimosa strong (good), asparagus milanese and breakfast bruchetta both very good. Would repeat.

Was there last night for dinner before a show at the NAC. My wife ordered a pre dinner glass of wine. When dinner arrived, she asked for another, which didn't come. Half way through her meal when the server did the "is everything to your liking?" visit, she reminded of him of her wine request. Still, a no show. Finally, we had to visit him at his station to cancel the glass, as she now had less than a 1/4 of her meal left, and we had our show to get to. He insisted on bringing her the glass, to which she responded, "I don't want a full glass of wine anymore, I don't have the food to accompany it, nor the time to drink it. How 'bout you bring me half a glass" (she suggested jokingly). Well, he did bring half a glass of wine- and charged us for it! When you make a mistake, fix it fast, with apologies, and exceed expectations. That's what gets guests back.....food, as has been noted, was good, but pricy. I think play or 18 will remain my market "go to" places.

We went to Metropolitain on a bit of a whim for a few birthday drinks. Admittedly, it was on a quiet Tuesday during the holidays...but the closing time was 2 hours away and I felt that was plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. The place was completely empty barring one other table. After telling the barman/waiter that we would just be there for a few drinks, he seemed annoyed. We sat down and waited for easily 20 minutes before he came back to take our order and another 20 for the 2 drinks to come. We decided that we would cut short our time there and went to pay. He essentially threw the card reader our way and left to tend to the other customers. The second I saw the payment was accepted, we left to no farewell. We actually said "goodbye" to him and in response got the most bitter, lukewarm response without him even lifting his head our way. The service wasn't simply bad, it was borderline hostile.

I'd love to go back, but will be very hesitant after that disastrous first visit.

Great atmosphere and professional service. While a bit pricey, I Ioved the Beef Tartare and we thoroughly enjoyed the Cote de Boeuf for 2. Nice portion and very tasty.A nice place to take your partner or colleagues !

Good food and service. Have been to the patio 3 times this summer. Food is good, had the duck pouting twice and just a drink and appetizers the third time. The combination of patio, tasty food and good service makes it worth it. Overall, a solid choice for downtown as it is far better than your run of the mill pub for just a bit more money, and interesting food combos that you will not find in many other places.

My wife and I visited for the first time for dinner on a Saturday night. Wait staff was abit slow to respond and take our order.
We ordered the fried calamari to start and it was quite greasy. I ordered the Nicoise Salad which took over an hour to arrive. It was good but not worth the wait. My wife ordered the Bouillabaisse which arrived late also and missing the broth. 15minutes later it returned. Again it wasn't worth the hassle.
There are many dining choices at Bymark so it will be awhile before we return if at all.

Metro is a piece of Paris in Ottawa. Their menu is really authentic, great service and beautiful atmosphere! They are famous for their raw bar, but have numerous options for every taste! Highly recommended!

Ordered an asparagus and poached egg brunch dish. A touch small, but very delicious. Had a champagne cocktail, can't remember the name of it but it was really nice. The patio in particular makes this place a great little gem.

Well, it’s been a hectic week, but in a good way. Work is trucking along well, our landscaper has started in our backyard on my rockgarden (so thrilled!) and Ryan and I have booked our trip out west to visit his family. Life is good. I hadn’t seen my two girlfriends for cocktails and dinner in a while, and Lucie thought it was about time to hit up a patio and enjoy a few laughs together.

Joined my girlfriends last night for Hill Hour on the patio at Metropolitain. The patio was bustling, yet had a warm and inviting energy. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, and while all business at first, had us all in laughs by the time we left.

We ordered their delicious oysters at $1.50 a pop (Hill Hour special), the tuna ceviche (light and delicious - not overwhelmingly sour as experienced at other restaurants), the grilled beef salad (the steak being cooked perfectly rare, and served on a bed of tasty arugula salad tossed with a shallot vinaigrette). Best of all, it was topped off with a poached egg. Nice twist!

The grilled chicken salad was as delicious as it looked - A+ for presentation!

Drinks were awesome! Highly recommend the French Riviera martini and Metropolitain Lemonade!

Their patio is an excellent spot for people watching. Styledomination

Will definitely be returning!

They have a very good raw bar selection (e.g., tartare, oysters, ceviches) as well as a very good selection of wines that are also sold by the glass (some are pricy). I tried the beef and salmon tartare, both of which were quite good. The flourless chocolate cake was excellent. Service was very good.
Upscale, yet with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Modern and interesting menu with a touch of French flare has made this restaurant a very popular destination with locals, politicians, and visitors alike. Friendly and accommodating service, offering a personal touch makes for a memorable meal. Worth visiting, even if only for a drink at the bar.

This faux French bistro is a reliable place for both food and drink, as well as spotting cabinet ministers. Hill Hour (happy hour) offers PEI oysters at $1.50 each and other good deals. The service can be eccentric.
We chose this place for girls' night and we were pleased with both the atmosphere and the food. I had raw oysters, a frisée aux lardons salad that had a perfect runny egg on top, and a decent crème brûlée. My Manhattan was good too. One friend had an excellent tuna tartare (sesame flavour came through) and the other had an ok salmon (bit too cooked for my taste but not dry in the least).
This food won't win any innovation awards but it's usually quite tasty. Watch out for the flourless chocolate torte- it's insane!

I love the French atmosphere of this brasserie. Unfortunately the food is a real let down and expensive... for what it is. Watery bouillabaisse, tasteless Mac and cheese with absent lobster, old salad with no dressing, and the list goes on. A real shame!
Trevor Helliker
Not sure how but they screwed up tea at breakfest.

Far from Paris. The first time I went to this restaurant, the decor reminded me of a beautiful French brasserie. Unfortunately, only the decor now reminds me of Paris.

This was not one of the most memorable meals. We were there for new year's eve. Only Table d'hôte available. Three guests had the tomatoes salad. There was barely any lettuce leafs and and most of them were the white part of the lettuce which is not the best part of a lettuce to share with guests. Honestly, it looked like a cheap dinner salad. The main dishes were OK. One of the guest had chicken. Again not very impressed. The dish consisted of a small chicken thigh with soggy skin. The taste was not bad but the overall look was not very appealing and for the price, a better piece of chicken would have been better suited, particularly when comparing this dish with the other one on the menu (filet mignon or salmon). The other 3 guests had the filet mignon with the Alaskan crab, asparagus and mashed potatoes. The meat was very good, tender and properly cooked. The mashed potatoes were delicious. As for the asparagus, they were not ripe (most of them yellow) and they were under cooked. The Alaskan crab was ok, a bit too salty but nothing much to say about it. Dessert was good but the pastry of the profiteroles was a bit overcooked. Finally, the coffee. For a "French brasserie", not the best we ever had. The decaffeinated coffee tasted like instant coffee. Not impressed at all.

Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. It was my fourth visit at this restaurant over the last 2 years. It seems that the quality of the food has gone down and so has the attention that used to be given to little details. Many may not agree with my review but having been in Paris many times in recent years, the Metropolitan Brasserie may compared itself to a French Brasserie but unfortunately not to the best or most of them. I will very unlikely return to this restaurant and will not recommend it to friends or people who visit Ottawa as for me, it is far from Paris.

I have it been here a few times and like it simply because of the $1 Oysters during Hill Hour. I have had their mussels and fries which also taste good. Service-wise it's decent, although nothing that really stuck out. Nice atmosphere and decor.

No service. We went on Sunday afternoon around 3pm for a drink and a snack. Waited at the host/hostess station for ~5 min, nobody showed up to seat us. Other guests arrived, they walked in past us, a waiter walked them back to the hostess station, saw no hostess and told them to just sit at any table.

So we picked a table and sat down as well. The patio, where we were, was at least half empty.

Waited another 10 minutes at our table to be noticed, but no such luck. So we left. not interested to find out what the service would actually be like, if anyone ever cared to show up.

I don't get why so careless about service with all the choices in the market area.

Ignore Idiot Reviews. And remember this brilliant one: it will be worth it. Normally, I couldn't be bothered to write a review, figuring that the best way of choosing a restaurant is by taking the chance, and, Heavens forbid, if the chance turned out to be a rotten one, then to rack it up to the Fates that be. As it stands, however, the Fates were very generous to my hubby and I a couple of weeks ago when we chose the Met., for in a season yielding a so-so harvest of mediocre dining, we feasted on a splendid banquet of exceptional food -- and HALLELUJAH!, accompanied by wittily smart service, for a sparkling change. The Arctic char, never a dish easy to prepare, given the unpredictability of fresh fish ( not to mention chef), was a divine treat, neither over or under cooked and served promptly; as for the rest of the meal, the buttery-garlicky tender escargots did a lovely job of heralding the fish, and the feathery flourless chocolate cake, of finishing off the meal with an angelic flourish. And this is just one example. I could droolingly ( forgive the saliva) go on about the other meals, the seared-to-umpth degree tenderloin steaks, the lobster mac and cheese (how "mmm, mmm good" clever), but, that would take something we mere mortals don't have: an eternity.
T.T. Poor Experience. Sat down and was served cold bread. Ordered duck confit poutine which was good but I could tell the McDonald fries were not made in house, which considering the bill, was unimpressive. Ordered the pan seared veal and it tasted like a frozen burger patty that had just been brought to room temperature. No seasoning on it and was rubbery/hard to even chew through. The "sauce" that went with it had no seasoning and it was not reduced so it was almost like watery soup. Potatoes came with it - cooked well but again no seasoning or taste. My girlfriend ordered the steak and it was served extra rare. We both couldn't finished our dishes and had to get it to go. I had a cup of coffee which was good. I also had the profiteroles - the ice cream and chocolate sauce was good. The pastry was like a rock and I needed a sharp knife to cut through it. The bill came at the end and because of my poor experience my girlfriend and I left unhappy customers. We will not be returning again.

When to this place last summer and the server was very rude because we only wanted drinks and not food. He also was sarcastic because he wasn't happy about it. Sorry but because o the poor service we had, we will never going back.

After reading all the reviews I was hoping for the best, and the best is what we got. Service was great and food was very good. It is true that we went on a Sunday and the restaurant was almost empty. Maybe the weekday evening crowd is putting a bit of stress on staff but we were extremely happy with our dining experience.

Two out of Three. I have been here three times in the last two years. Twice I was here for supper. The first it was a special occasion and we had a cheese plate and oysters. Yes, I expected it to be expensive, but I also expected superb quality and atmosphere. The restaurant was too loud and our table seemed to be in the middle of a very busy section of the restaurant. We couldn't relax and the frankly, the cheese was sub-par. The second, it was for drinks and we only went here because Milestones was full. Metropolitain has a more grown-up vibe, which I like, but the seating arrangement inside allows for little socializing. It just isn't comfortable. Anyway, the second visit was more pleasurable. Drinks and fresh bread hot to the table. It was a good experience but I was still scared off by the first supper I had not enjoyed.
I waited a long time before going again and then it was on the behest of colleagues who were conferencing at the Chateau Laurier and we only had 45 minutes for lunch. We went again. The lunch impressed me. Everyone ordered the burger. For 19$, you'd better be putting something spectacular on my plate. I asked if they could substitute for a veggie burger or even just throw some portobello mushrooms on there instead of the beef patty but the server said they don't do modifications (!!) Okay... instead, I ordered the pickled mackerel salad. It was less expensive than the burger but surprisingly, it was actually good. There was a lot of arugula, more than necessary, and the vinegar was strong. I know many people would not have liked the dish, however, I am not many people and I enjoyed it. The texture of the fish is heavy and I found the vinegar actually lifts the fish.
The burgers were gigantic and the patties were thick. The fries, sweet potato fries, and other sides were steaming hot and fresh. I was envious of the burgers, to be honest.
After the last visit, I have been curious to see what else they have to offer. I would like to return again but we shall see...

Good salads. The beet salad is incredible and I love their poutine. I haven't been here for an actual meal but from what I have had it's very good.

Nice for lunch. I have only been here for lunch. I think they have an efficient operation, and the food is good. My club sandwich today was very tasty. The noise didn't bother me much.

Disappointment yet again. After letting the restaurant know that I experienced horrible service they offered to mail me a gift card as incentive to return. It's been 4 months and I still have yet to receive it!

-----11 Sep, 2013-----

Not Impressed.. After trying to find a suitable place for my birthday celebration, my husband and I decided on Metropolitain Brasserie. I made a reservation and even let them know it was my birthday, not expecting something for free, but just so that they would know it was a special occasion for us! When we got to the restaurant it was incredibly loud and not a very nice atmosphere, but thought "hey, maybe the food and service will make up for it!" Nope. The hostess didn't even say anything to us. Our main waitress was so-so. She was friendly enough to come over to see if we were enjoying our meal. WHICH was served to us abruptly by a food runner, who didn't even make eye contact, sped walked to our table, plopped it down and then sped walked away.

My husband and I shared an appetizer and a main dish, we decided we would like to have our own desserts. I ordered the Creme Brulee and he ordered the Profiteroles. or something like that. Well...my Creme Brulee never came! And it was my birthday!!! I didn't even bother saying anything. Everyone working there just seemed so preoccupied and rushed. It wasn't a good experience what so ever.

I am glad we went though. Now I know to never go back there or recommend.

Good service decent food. Great service our waiter was very personable and took great care of us. I highly recommend the gazpacho.

Be wary of eating here. Mediocre and unoriginal food pared with forgetful wait staff. Manager was generous enough to apply a discount of $4 after the waitress got the order wrong not once, but twice. The manager could have came to the table and apologized, but they didn't.
Orev
Terrible service. I've been to Métropolitain dor dinner often and have always been pleased but last week I went for lunch with my boss and some colleagues for my boss' birthday and the service was probably the worst I’ve had in Ottawa. I was embarrassed that I had suggested this restaurant for this event and my guess is that my boss will never go back and I don't blame her. The waitress was uninterested, snooty, and basically ignored us. 3 out of the 6 guests ordered the ceviche and 3 ordered the crêpes. It took our waitress at least 20 minutes to let us know that the ceviche was not available. She should have know this from the start or found out sooner. By the time she told us the 3 people having crêpes were served their food. I would therefore have expected that she would have apologized and put a rush on our new orders but no such luck - other tables were being served left right and center while we waited and waited and waited. Not once did she offer us anything or apologize for the wait. It took about 45 minutes before we were served...again no apology. The others were well done their meal by the time we got ours. Also the waitress would constantly go AWOL during our meal – not once did she check in on us nor did she offer more drinks or dessert. We had to ask other servers to find her when we needed something which didn’t always work out. All in all it took 2 hours to get through our lunch – ridiculous!!! My colleague actually had to speak to the manager who finally comped 3 main dishes.
Stu
Yummy, but.... Romantic saturday night.. unfortunately too cold for the fabulous patio... left us inside in the um... cafeteria. I love it here - but outside only. Inside is too bright, sparse and simple for dinner. Would probably be fine for lunch. No complaints about the food, but we didn't linger for dessert.

As a repeat customer of Metropolitain I was extremely shocked by the service I receive on my last visit. Normally I dine at Metropolitain in the evening hours and have never had a bad experience. On my day off I decided to have brunch with some girlfriends around 11 and had a completely different experience. The food was as wonderfull as always, however, the service was awful! Normally the staff is chipper and professional, yet on this beautiful spring day the ladies and I had to deal with this grumpy old man. His pretentious attitude was unwelcoming and it seemed as though our presence was a bother. Metropolitain is a fabulous restaurant but I if I see that stunted old man I will be turning right back around!!

Cold oysters and shrimp are fantastic and a bargain at a dollar each

Hit and miss.... I have been to Metropolitan about 3 times now. Two out of the three visits were really good. I like it for the convenient location and great patio. The service my last time there was awful. I went there with friends and the server did not tell us what the specials were when I asked and acted like it was not his job to tell us. We ordered oysters, mussels and calamari. The oysters were not properly shucked, the mussels had sand in them still and the calamari was disgustingly chewy. For a seafood restaurant, this was not acceptable. Its sucks since I've had better experiences there.
Foodie13
This is a decent place to eat with a solid core menu and great ambience. Patio is lovely. Service varies (recwntlyt it was slow). Good wine list - for best value check the wines by the glass and order a bottle. Steak frites are awesome.

Not all visits turn out well.. Tried this out based on ratings, but found that while others may have liked it, we didn't. We found it noisy to the point where it was difficult to hear the waitress, though she was quite knowledgeable of the wine list and attentive. We liked that they had you taste the wine before serving. Obviously this brasserie is oriented towards selling drinks and not food as we found. The seafood menu looks good, though we had other. What do they have against vegetables? The beef bourguignon was small and unlike any brethren I have ever had. My wife's steak aux poivre was so thickly coated in peppercorns that it dominated. Cooked to perfection, but lacking any grill marks was it cooked in a frying pan? Au jus is not supposed to have a burnt aftertaste. Substituting the gnocchi for fried resulted in fries from a salt mine. So salted they were essentially uneatable. An unfortunate disappointment.

Not bad, but didn't feel Parisien. Had a meal there last week, service was very good, atmosphere a bit loud for my liking. The food itself, soup was delicious, the salad a bit bland, the chicken dish I ordered was tender and juicy but on the small side, but the dessert was top notch. I will come back and try something different. They made us feel very welcome!

Hill Hour is great: Monday through Friday, from 4-7, $1 oysters. Cocktails have been disappointing, stick with beer or the wine list.
Emily Lonie
The lobster thermidore was out of this world! Lovely atmosphere as well.

Food is beautiful and delicious. Only caveat; don't go in a hurry. The service is friendly but not a fast restaurant.

Stuffed french toast good!. French toast with gruyere cheese, ham and berry compote. Excellent. Not cheap but worth it. Someone else had the blueberry buckwheat pancakes and claimed they were the best ever.

Worst service ever! The girl was rude, slow and wasn't interested in serving us at all. Never came by to ask us how was the food, refill water or if we wanted to order more drinks. The calamari were ok but my coq au vin was overcooked.

Good. Its a good place to eat or snack after work like on Fridays. I like their happy hours menu from 5-7 pm, oysters, mussels and shrimps, etc. Some of the menu can be viewed as overpriced. Anyhow, this restaurant is good and i like to go once and a while.

Great food. I went here in summer 2010 for my wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. I had already tried out the spaghetti bolognese and thoroughly enjoyed it, for a simple dish. It was flavoured perfectly.

My husband just happened to mention that it was our anniversary while making the reservation and we were very pleased to find that our little booth was decorated with candles upon our arrival. We had great service both times we were here. I had the duck, the daily special. It was to die for. Perfectly cooked with fabulous potatoes and veggies on the side. The cocktails were great - not many people can make a vodka gimlet anymore! I'm going back for Hill Hour soon and I can't wait!

Good. We went on a Friday night and the place was packed (with the Hill Hour crowd). We arrived an hour before our reservation but they still gave us a table right away. They have a great wine selection. We ordered the escargots gratinées which were good, but quite salty. I had the Crispy Duck Confit (which is on the Appetizers menu) that comes with peach chutney, sweet potato fries and mixed greens. The plate was big enough for a main dish. It was good. The chutney and fries were excellent. Too much dressing on the salad though. My partner had the Braised Short Rib. He thought it was good, but not tender enough (the waiter had described it as fall off the bone meat).
Prices are a tad expensive for what you get. Nevertheless, we had a good experience and will go back to try the Hill Hour Specials.

Great brunch!. Went for brunch! I really recommend the portabello sandwich. It's huge! and it comes with fries/salad or soup. I asked for half fries and salad. The frites are nice and thin and golden brown. Very crispy and not oily. The sandwich was veg, and so cripspy with deicious pesto and red pepper sauce... mmmmm.
Highly recomend!
The atmosphere and location is great :)

Truly good.. The Metropolitain brasserie is one of the top tables in Ottawa. It was in last year's New York times things to do if you spend 24 hours in Ottawa. Delicious mussels (15$). Very goos steak frites. Professional and very efficient service. With a well placed hint of humour to top it up. Nice setting and ambience.

Overpriced for the qulity of food. The menu was overpriced and although the items sounded very good, the meal I ordered "Beef Bourguignon" and the meat was hard, and uneatable. The sauce/broth was not very good either.

The evening was quite pleasant on the whole. I tasted a very nice Pilsner from Toronto called ‘Steam Whistle’ and also tried a Mittnacht Klack 2008 and a Lailey 2009, which are both moderately decent Reislings. The Calmari dish I had was a big disappointment but I really came for oysters and was lucky enough to enjoy the best ones I have ever had. Rating: 3 out of 5.

The Met’s brunch menu is available until 2 PM, which is not bad if that’s what you are looking for. If you’d like something out of their lunch menu, you’ll have to wait until 11AM for it to be available – though they have shown some flexibility.

The menu has a focus on eggs.
The Waffle
Located at 700 Sussex, The Met is a relatively new favourite for politicos, journos and lobbyists of all types. They claim it is at the corner of Les Champs Élysées for marketing purposes, but you are soon reminded of where you are when you look down Rideau Street. The place was opened in 2005 by the owners of The Empire Grill, and has been trying to attract Hillites with specials such as The Hill Hour, from 4pm to 7pm on weekdays, where oysters, jumbo shrimp, mussels and othere appetizers are offered at decent price. Oysters for instance can be had at 1$ a piece during the HH.
The Waffle
The potatoes still had their skins, adding some crisp to the dish. Nice surprise, the sauerkraut came covered with little french cornichons, adding a fresh vinegar flavour to the fermented cabbage. The sausages were cooked perfectly, but the smoked pork was a tad overdone and a bit on the dry side. Usually, the cabbage is very dominaut in a sauerkraut, but here, it was just an equal partner to the meat. The portion was therefore smaller than the usual sauerkraut dish, but I did not suffer too much from it.
The Waffle
The veal was not bad, the meat very tender, as expected, although it was almost overcooked - almost. The breading was light on Parmesan cheese, but still well seasoned.

On a recent trip I dined with a large group at the Metropolitain Brasserie , adjacent to Parliament in the Canadian capitol of Ottawa. We started by enjoying mussels, and a charcuterie plate that included a housemade terrine, what had to be house mixed mu

This is a great restaurant to bring business associates or friends from out of town. It's smack dab in the middle of Château Laurier and the market. My father-in-law's wife was in town this evening attending a conference and she had a couple of hours
