Review Mill St. Brew Pub - Ottawa

Duane Avery
I had the fish and chips, probably the most reasonably priced item on the menu. The batter was perfect, it had that golden colour, and no hard brown parts. The fish was fluffy, and the batter was light, but somewhat oily. The French fries and coleslaw were perfect. Unfortunately I couldn't have any drinks, but I hear the beer 🍺 from those at the table was good. Great seat, and nice courtyard near the water.

We went to this restaurant on Friday night, the table was full so we couldn't get the window side table. But the food was awesome and the server was super nice. We came here just because the restausant we were supposed to go was closed. I am glad that we came here and my family had a really good time. Hope to sit patio next time.

It is a fun place, food is Ok. More vegetarian options would help, especially cooked food, not just salads. It a great place to friends and family to gather and talk, it was not loud. The staff is friendly and cheerful. I will definitely come back.

A very nice place and location. We were a party of eight. People were happy with the food but service was very slow, it took an hour before food started to come to the table and was delivered over 10-15 minutes from the first person served until the last person was served. Some of the hot items were served cold. In fairness they seemed very busy for a Monday night. I suspect they were short staffed. I ordered the "Seafood Pot Pie" with the garden salad. It was good and presented well. Salad was just OK. The seafood pot pie said salmon, scallops and shrimp on the menu. In reality it contained scallops, maybe two shrimp but no salmon at all. It tasted good and the puffy crust was nice, just no salmon.

Edited.... So, my 2nd trip to Mill Street was like having a supernova light up a power outage. GM Amy and our server Cooper took care of our grossly large table from the second we walked in til we walked out the door. Food was top drawer again, and this time the service was outstanding and well and truly appreciated. Nachos were delicious, the elk burger was scrumptious, and the poutine as to die for. I tried 3 of their beers... The Belgian, the lager, and the 100th meridian (which I shamelessly purchased only for it's Hip reference). All delicious and recommended. Thanks, Mill Street! /Edit (Original) No room outside, gave us a crummy inner table when one with the river view was open... Then server took 15 minutes to come speak to us. Food was good, the everything else was a little annoying.

Love this place! Amazing food and beer in downtown Ottawa, WITH parking! I recently photographed a wedding here and the staff was amazing, it's a beautiful venue for events with the exposed brick, wood beams and views of the river. Highly recommend!

Visited Mill St. Brew Pub during Canada Day. There was a reasonable wait and the staff seemed well prepared for the rush. Nice interior with great views of the surrounding water and historic building. The beer selection was good and the food was tasty. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Excellent selection of in house brewed beers, a wonderful burger with a generous helping of fries. Couldn't be a better pub meal.... and the service , Pete was 5🌟! I always try and visit the MillSt. brew pub when I am in town

Dropped in for a Sunday lunch during Bluesfest and the service was terrible. Our server took 4 of 5 drink orders and when asked for a beer recommendation just walked away. Really? When she returned with the 4 drinks, "oh, sorry. Did you figure it out?" was the response. We placed a child's order for our grandson and it was the 1st food order to arrive. But of course you can't eat pasta without cutlery. "Oops, sorry abut that". Minutes pass and cutlery finally arrives. Then more time passes and adult food finally arrives. During all this, our server is no where to be seen. Other wait staff deliver the food, cutlery, drink refills, explanation as to why the child food was so early compared to adult food. The food was just ok, the service was terrible. My son & his family from Halifax won't be back. My wife & I have eaten here before and never had an issue but this visit makes coming back doubtful.

We ordered the artichoke and spinach dip to start. It was good, but very bland. I put some salt in it and it tasted better, but still something was missing. We both ordered the burgers with fries as it was the special. They forgot my fries, but it was ok cause with the dip, it would have been enough, but even with the mayo, pickles, ketchup and mustard on the burger, it was very dry. Almost to the point of eating sawdust, but not quite. Best part about the meal was the cider and beer we had.

Food and beer were good but service was bad. There were several servers standing around while the entire patio was being served by one person (who I assume was the manager). He told us they were in transition between servers but the hour and a half we were there not one new server came around. The only server around spent the entire time flirting with a table of regulars. Your beer is always delicious but the service was pathetic!

I think I came on an off day. The decor, vibe, and service was great but the food was pretty bad. Being a big fan and purchaser of their beer I was eager to give the place a try. Unfortunately the elk burger I had was burnt and dry with an unevenly pressed patty - their tiny portion of thin cut fries tasted old and floppy. I overheard that the kitchen was busy preparing for an event so that might explain the bad food. I'm looking forward to trying it again on a better day as the location is awesome and the service very good.
Maxime Fortier
Very beautiful place. The food is great. We had the chance to visit the Brewery, with the brew master of the place. Charming with the solarium, just above the water. Thanks for the great experience. We were 6 (4 adults, 1 4years old and 1 7 months baby

My fiance brought me here for my birthday with a group of friends. The staff was extremely friendly, our server was awesome the beer was great and the food was fantastic.
Kimberley Summers
What an amazing place! The selection of drinks is amazing, try some of the beers that the brewery makes you won't be disappointed. Food is amazing and I can't say enough about the customer services we received. If you want a great place to eat that offers a fantastic view, go to Mill St Brew Pub in Ottawa.....

Never disappoints! The patio is the perfect place to take a break and chill on a busy, hot day. Found my new fave - the Queen St. 501 Cider. Sooo good...

My family and I went to the Milk St Brew Club, our server was good and knowledgeable about everything there. My son had a a bacon bacon poutine and said it as the best poutine he has ever had. So our experience was a positive one.
Phil Ouellette
Great place, great food and even better beer. I think their service had a bit of an off night. but then again, kinda hard to serve 80 people at once.

This is an awesome place. The tour was great. Our guides were very friendly & quite generous with "The samples". Learnt alot of cool things. This tour is well worth $11. The restaurant is a beautiful place to eat. Food was excellent. Staff are very friendly.

Mill Street very quickly became our favourite restaurant. The staff are always professional, courteous, and friendly. Taya was our server for our delicious prime rib dinner on Sunday. She did a fantastic job of making us feel right at home and helped us enjoy a personalized experience, as have all the staff whom we met when we've been there before, including Suki (hope I spelled her name correctly). The beer brewed in-house is outstanding too. Our favourite is Mill Street's West Coast IPA, but we've equally enjoyed the others brewed there as well. We give Mill Street Brew Pub a 5-star-Plus rating for excellence in all areas of their service and have highly recommended it to everyone else to enjoy as well.
Dwayne Taylor
Good place a little expensive. Small menu. Great beer selection!
Elaine Graham
We were there in the early afternoon of November 11. They had been very busy after the Remembrance Day ceremony. The staff as friendly and kind and the beer delicious. We had sandwiches and fries. The sandwiches were ok but the fries were limp and cold.
Carl Joly
Good food,good beer,nice patios.

Good place to go to at any time of the year. I've been here many times, and each time I've had the same problem. The food took forever to make. The restaurant also gives brewery tours and one time my family and I decided to go on it as we waited for our food. When we came back from our tour, we asked where our food was and they told us they just started making it so that it wouldn't get cold. I found that every time I visited this restaurant, the waiters were nice but also very forgetful. I like to get some nice ice cream after my meal, and every time I've ordered ice cream it took the waiters over half an hour to bring it to my table, even though I asked them where it was. There are lots of places to sit in the restaurant. I am giving the restaurant a 3.5 only because of how good their food is.

Failed to honour my request for no high stools, two days before the 'event' (my birthday). I hope their MORE IMPORTANT customers tip well. As for me, I won't be back

Came here for a birthday once. I had the burger, it was okay, nothing special to be honest. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and the service was very friendly.

My wife and I brought my parents here for Canada Day. They were in town visiting and we were planning on walking to Parliament Hill for fireworks after some food and a few drinks. Unfortunately, our entire experience at Mill Street was a let down. Our initial interaction with our server wasn't great: he was in a rush and had no patience to recommend beers or talk us through the menu. We ordered a few small dishes, hoping that it wouldn't take long for the food to arrive.

We waited for 1.5 hours... after which we spoke with our server, who asked the manager to come chat with us. The manager explained that the order/chit system had malfunctioned and our meals would be made in an expedited fashion. He offered to buy us a round of drinks in the meantime, and we informed him that if our food wasn't served in 30 minutes, we would need to leave. During the next little while, we watched many other patrons who had arrived after us receive their meals.

After another 30 minutes--2 hours total--waiting for our food (which, again, were all small plate appetizers), we asked for our bill. We got an uber home and ordered in from a local pizza place. We didn't make it to the Hill, and for all intents and purposes, our evening was ruined. Overall very disappointed in our first visit to Mill Street.

Sat on the patio with a great combination of sun and shade. Surprisingly quiet considering how close it is to the roads. The Belgian Ale was wonderful and perfect for a patio. Great beer for sure. The food was well enjoyed by all. The fish and chips were nice and crispy (nicely portioned too). The chorizo chicken pot pie was delicious and flavorful. The Bison Burger is probably the best burger I have eaten. Juicy doesn't describe it adequately. The mix of jalapenos and cheese was phenomenal. My mouth s watering again writing this review. Highly recommend going here for the great beers, great food, or a combination of both,.

My family along with two of our friends attended the Mill Street Brew Pub on Saturday, July 16. From start to finish it was probably the worse dining experience I ever had. We called and were advised that they didn't take reservations. Nevertheless we decided to take a chance and when we arrived at the pub, we asked if we could sit near the water. We were told that wasn't possible because they didn't have a waiter/waitress for that section. However, we noticed that there was only one table of six people in there that night with plenty of empty tables.

We all ordered drinks and then ordered our meals and that's where it started to really go downhill fast. We waited over an hour for simple meals like fish and chips and wings. No one came to our table to explain the delay. The place wasn't even that busy. In the meantime, we had different servers come and replenish our drinks. When we asked them what was happening with our meal, they advised that they didn't know. Finally, our original waitress came back and advised that there had been a problem with the deep fryer and she hadn't been informed. An hour later we received our meal - probably the worse fish and chips I have ever had - the chips were cold and the fish, when you cut into the hard coating, oozed oil. I ate it, because by this time I was starving. My son ordered mild wings and when he received his order, they were extra spicy and he couldn't eat them. He reordered his wings - took about 15 minutes and when he received them half looked like they weren't cooked and the other half were burnt.

The waitress said that the Manager would be coming over to speak to us but later she advised that he had told her to handle it. A 30% discount was applied to our bill.

When my friend tried to talk to the Manager about the service we received, he made the comment that he wasn't even aware of the situation - but who authorized the 30% discount then?

We had just finished a two week tour of the east coast and everywhere we went, the service was great and the food was fantastic. Only at Mill Street Pub did we experience rudeness, ineptness and a total disrespect for the customer.

We won't be going back there and will be telling our friends to definitely find another restaurant!!!

went with my 89 yr young mother, service was disgraceful! Server was encouraging at start , however , we were abandoned ! Food was horrible; burger was : a hockey puck : Calamari, was so so ! My falafel salad.- "Don't order it". No body checked on us. Drinks did not come or did any one show any interest. ; A particular server was asked 3 x to get our server. Response was ; I ll get him for you. Never happened. Approached second server " Melissa" she promptly addressed the situation!! Even though we were not her table , kudos to her! Then the manager Caitlyn appeared and made excuses. Weak ones!! Although the bill was amended was not a pleasant eve and damage was already done !!! Never again. No where is it close to what this eatery was when it first opened!!!

Good atmosphere and great beer, but the experience is hindered by painstakingly slow service, and overpriced, mediocre food. Came during lunchtime and ordered the Wednesday special of fried chicken. We were given some beer tasters while we waited and they were absolutely delicious, so we ordered...

Good Beer. Mediocre Food.
Went here for dinner on Monday evening. They run a $5 burger special on Mondays, so I tried the burger. The burger was overcooked and dry, but that seems that they can only server well-done burgers by law. So, I'd avoid the burger. Besides being dry, the burger itself had no flavor. I have had much better $5 burgers... I did try the bacon flatbread as an appetizer. The flatbread was much better than the burger, but was not worth the $16 I paid for it.
We weren't able to get a table as we did not have a reservation, but was able to find space at the bar. Service was friendly and attentive.

Came here when it wasn't busy. Upon entering the hostess said be right with you. 15 minutes later the manager walked by and noticed us and sat us on the patio. It then took 15 minutes before a server asked us if we wanted drinks. 30 minutes after that we got up and found our waiter to get our bill because we still hadn't been asked if we wanted food or even seen him since getting our first drink. 10 minutes went by and still no bill brought to the table. Walked inside to find someone to pay and our waiter was joking around inside talked to another employee in no rush at all to attend to us. Wouldn't recommend this place to anybody.

Always a great time at Mill Street. Good
Food, great beer, awesome service and ambiance. My fiancé attended their annual Robbie Burns Dinner and it was amazing! A 5 course meal / beer pairing for $70. With Scot in my ancestry, I was excited to try food from the homeland. Smoked salmon, chicken soup, scotched egg, beef tenderloin and haggis, and sweet and spice vanilla ice cream for dessert, each pair perfectly with different beers. Not only that, the brewmaster gives a speech and explains each beer you are drinking as they come out. It was really cool. I love mill street on any given day, but I would highly suggest attending one of their sit down dinners, it's pretty sweet.

I really want to like this place. Good atmosphere. Great location. Service is good. But food is terrible. Ok for beer and appetizers but don't bother for dinner.
Costa
This is the place for good beers and good snacks. Great views in a nice old building. Tourtière was good and fresh with peas and ok mashed potatoes. Typical British style pub food but with some more sophisticated options. Many crave the elk burger here.
Inthemoodforfood
Went here for a family event. Service was absolutely terrible and the food was not much better. Everything took forever and the waitress had no issue with us gradually becoming more and more upset. Once our meals came, most of us were too upset/famished to even care. This restaurant relies on its location to get customers. Unfortunately that seems to work and they can get away with mediocrity. I highly recommend you take your hungry selves elsewhere!

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because I love that back room with the large window overlooking the water. The food is very overpriced and not very good. We ordered the sliders as an app and it was very disappointing. They were flavourless and the portions were small for 10$. The beer was delicious though and love their Belgian wit. Our meals were even more disappointing. The smoked meat looked like deli meat from a grocery store. we also asked for no mustard and it came with mustard. The flatbread was dry, overcooked and very overpriced. The service was also pretty awful. We could barely get our waiters attention and it took us literally 30 mins to get our bill. I don't think I'll return here for food again.

I had already heard bad reviews about the food before I visited the Mill Street Brew Pub. I have to say that the reviews were fairly accurate. It's not that the food was bad, it was just not memorable. I had the fish and chips. The portion was large and very reasonably priced. It was good, but again nothing to write home about. The atmosphere and location, on the other hand, are great. It's the perfect spot to hang out in a casual environment and the views are pretty.

Went to the Mill Street Brew Pub for lunch on a Monday...Monday's special is their Angus burger for $5!!! Great value and very, very delicious Yukon Gold fries! Got a flight of beer and felt relaxed and ready to tackle my afternoon! Couldn't get a seat by the river-view because of many reservations but overall I was very pleased!
Aleesha
The location is really beautiful in the night time. Everybody's food was very mediocre, and they were out of chicken for the tacos. Only highlight was the location and the view, the food was not memorable.
Pardis Parhizgar
Came here after Bluesfest for a bite and a few drinks and I gotta say the location is pretty sweet. Right by the water and a massive size, this real brewery is a nice spot if you're visiting Ottawa. The food was not as great as the location unfortunately. We had a pizza with bacon, pulled pork and mozzarella, pulled pork tacos (because they ran out of chicken), calamari and nachos. The pizza was good with a bbq sauce on top, the calamari was really dry and tasteless and it came with 3 dips (two of which didn't make sense with calamari at all), and the tacos were alright. Nachos were fairly good but nothing stood out or was really worth the price. Overall, great looking spot but mediocre food.
Amanda Proctor
Absolutely terrible! The food is horrid, kitchen seem to be out of a lot of the items on the menu. Poorly managed... The building is very nice and the location is great, but that is it. I wouldn't waste your time with this place. Trying to push volume not quality.
Zoe M
They had a good variety of food options am for vegetarians and gluten intolerant people. I would recommend this place for a nice dinner but it has more of a restaurant feel than a pub.
Scott B
Awesome location. Consistently inedible food. Just blech. But people always want to come here because of the location. Sigh. Have fish and hips and just cut your losses. Bad food, would be my point.
TheFoodFella
Ottawa location of the popular Toronto brew-house and restaurant. Located near the War Museum and Lebreton Flats (and soon the new rapid transit station) and just a short ride from downtown, this brew-pub has become a popular local restaurant because of the in-house made beer and the innovative menu items.

Perfect spot for a night-out or a meet-up with friends after work. Service is friendly and informed when it comes to beer and food pairings.
Shanely
I would usually give this restaurant a pretty alright review - the food is normally not too bad and there's a nice selection of beers.

Where the points gets lost are the service.

When a server spills a drink on someone - well, it happens sometimes. We get it. When a server spills a drink on someone, and makes no attempt to amend the situation and makes no adjustments to the bill? C'mon now.

The manager fixed the situation to an extent, in that, he comp'd our drinks - but still. Having your server avoiding you for the rest of the night and handing you a normal bill after spilling an entire (seriously, entire) beer on someone in your party is extremely frustrating.

I'm not saying people need to be perfect - but there may need to be some training for situations like this.

Also, having no cutlery at a table and waiting well over ten minutes for drinks doesn't help the situation much.
@missfish
I have had several good meals at Mill Street. We biked here today along the River Pathway. It's a gorgeous setting, especially the patio. I love the smoked trout salad: lettuce, pears, dried apricots, pistachio crumble and a light "green goddess" dressing. This is my kind of meal, and it's great - light and fresh and savoury - but I wish it came with bread as it's a lot of greens and fish and something is needed to balance it all out. The organic lager is my favourite beer at Mill Street. They also make their own root beer. It's definitely worth trying!

The service is ok, pleasant enough. I would have appreciated a water since it was quite warm and we had been biking, but it was never offered and when I remembered to ask for it the server was nowhere in sight.
Jlb
Great spot to stop for a drink. This is a perfect spot to stop for a drink if you are following the waterfront trail to downtown. Lovely patio, really pretty old building, views of the river, great beer.
Ollie
Great good, odd service. The food was great and the beer selection excellent, even a good cider for my wife. However our waiter was very inattentive and didn't stop by at our table once to see how we were doing, we had to stop him as he walked by. I would recommend this place hopefully you don't get the waiter we had.

Building is awesome (but loud), Beer is fantastic, Food is OK. Love the building and the vibe is good. The beer is generally really good stuff. The food is ok but nothing to write home about. Location is a little weird but it is a beautiful spot.
Kre8tv
Food is ok. Especially enjoy the charcuterie platter. Service is friendly. I just wish there was a better selection of quiet tables.

Will Not Return. Last Saturday my husband and I decided to go out for Bunch. We love Mill St. in Toronto and decided to try the one here. I was having a hard time of lunch or breakfast (let’s face it brunch is hard sometimes!) and we decided to get a charcuterie plate first. We told the waitress we would like it as an appetizer and our eggs benedict served after. We were slowly enjoying our food as the charcuterie was large when our eggs benedict arrive. My husband was not impressed, as we specifically requested this not to happen. When we told the gentleman who came out he offered to put it in the warmer for us. Uh, no. When our server came by and asked how it was we told her we were very unhappy they came early, and she said she was sorry the kitchen was not busy and it came out quicker than she anticipated. Fine – putting all that aside we dig in. I found that the pulled pork was not amazing, and didn’t have as much flavour as I’m used to. Without the bacon, and the fact that it was on toast it was all mushy and had no texture. The part to dig into my eggs came and they were hard. It was really disappointing, as my favourite part is when you cut and it oozes and covers everything. The server came back and after two bites, I knew I would not eat it. I told her I didn’t want it and would each the rest of our charcuterie plate. She said she could get me a new one, but I wasn’t in love the first time, and didn’t think the second time would yield different results. After all of this, she apologized again and didn’t charge us for my breakfast. Good notes: the view it’s stunning! Really beautiful building, lots of history on their menu and you could see parts of the brewery from the inside.

Terrible Service!. I don't even have the energy to write everything about how bad this restaurant is. The food sucks, and the service is absolutely TERRIBLE!
I got my main meal before my appetizer!?!?!
Enough Said. This was my second time there, and both tries were utter fails.
Never returning.
Prudence85
Always enjoyable. I have been many times throughout the day and have always enjoyed myself - decent prices, good food, beautiful scenery, good service. Never had any complaints! Most recently went last night for dinner and sat on the patio. Only complaint from a friend was she had too little onions on her sandwich.

Won't be back soon. We went to Mill St Brew Pub last night because of their beautiful patio. We waited at the bar for about 40 minutes or more for a table outside, which was ok, we chose to wait. When we finally got out there and ordered our food, we were of course very hungry by then. The waitress was pleasant enough, but didn't seem very happy. The food was timely enough in arriving. I had the vegetarian flatbread which was ok but have had much better, although I was satisfied enough with it. My husband ordered chicken schnitzel and was extremely disappointed! He ate most of it because he was so hungry, as we had waited so long. I tasted it and agreed, it was terrible. The cabbage and pasta that came with it were also terrible. I actually had to ask what it was because we couldn't tell by the taste. We had ordered another round of beers and kept waiting. Finally when we were done (trying to) eat, the drinks still had not arrived so we decided to leave. The waitress was on her way over with the beer but was all too happy for us to leave and take the beer back. I agree with most of the reviews here. Beautiful patio, great beer. Service is hit and miss. Food mediocre at best. Overpriced for what you get. I guess you pay for the patio, which is pretty, but crowded and loud, like most of the patios in the market anyway. No reason to return.
Bikeboy
The waitress went out of her way to conceal hidden charges for up selling. After my colleagues and I had dropped over $150 in food and drinks, we were told that we couldn't linger because they had a big party coming. Oh, the food was nothing special and it was overpriced. I'd like a little more respect as a customer when I spend my hard earned cash. I won't be back.
Tamara
So very disappointing. Expected much more from a brew pub. Is the bar of expectation so very low in Ottawa that one can't find decent pub fare that doesn't taste like it was prepared in a factory?
ChipsNCurrySauce
I keep going back but I don't know why. I go to Mill St probably once every couple of months with friends and/or family. It's hit and miss. I usually stick to the nachos since the rest of the food has not been very great, but even those tend to be dry once the first layer of toppings are picked off.

The service is usually kind of meh, but last week was terrible. Our waitress came out straight up HIGH. She dropped her payment machine, stumbled around, and came out on the patio going, "So... you're on the patio... it's nice out here... yeahhhh....". It was so awkward and I would be horrified if I wasn't with my husband who found it hilarious (in a sad way). The bathroom was filthy. There was no toilet paper, all the seats were dirty. I informed the girls at the front who said, "Oh.. ummm.. okaaaay".

It sucks because it's such a nice building and has the potential, but the slow/bad service, mediocre food, and often long wait dampens the experience.
SM
Great beer but service wasn't great. Server wasn't overly friendly, service was very slow, waited 15 min for drinks, table maintenance was awful and had to request many times to have water refilled.
M.elle.kat
Short but sweet. We didn't stay for a meal or anything. just wanted to try their beer. I had their organic lager. They also offer gluten free beer (not corona.) It was nice. They offered free app samplers when we went. Really nice atmosphere/location.
Msdavies
Will not go again. We came with our family for dinner. Service slow and the waiter was not very pleasant. We made reservation and requested a high chair. The waiter was not very happy when we asked for the high chair when we arrived at the table. I asked if they had some soup crackers that I could give our little one quiet until the food came, he came with a hot, hot bun. Later when I checked out bill at home, he charged us a $1.50 for the bun, all of the restaurants that we have eaten out, never have charged us for a bun or crackers for a toddler. We certainly will not come back.
Wyyatt1
Stay away. We were here about a month ago, had been meaning to write something, but only now getting around to it.... bottom line, bad food, bad drinks (even the beer), and bad service... drinks took a while to arrive, someone from our table asked to have her drink heated up, were almost told no by the server (who must have been underage), one of us were terribly ill from the food afterwards, 2 did not bother finishing their plates, and I managed to eat a plate of cold chicken wings awful!!! And all of this for a mere $100 (incl. $3.50 a cup for some sludge they call coffee) per couple what a joke, this city needs better eating establishments, although I should have known better to expect anything more from a brew pub....
Golf Chick
User reviews. It was really good when they first opened. Now their quality has gone down. The best thing on their menu was the flat bread piggy delight but they don't serve it anymore. The duck confit flat bread looked promising but it was a complete disaster. Service is a hit or a miss depending who you get. Suki is the best one there. One time I was there for dinner with a friend and the service was so bad that after 20 minutes of having our 'sort of' empty plates, I got up and took them to the bar. Bottomline, for the quality I had been getting lately, it is way overpriced.
Ivan.M
Overpriced "Vanilla". Went for a lunch with work colleagues and was a bit disappointed with my experience. While the service was decent and, cute girls in cute fake kilts easy on the eye, the quality of the good for what they charge for it is absolutely outrageous.

I had an average quality burger pub burger that had the price tag of an actual, savory restaurant burger (and no, Mill St. is not a restaurant but a pub). Perhaps they are trying to brand themselves as a gastopub, but if that is the case, they are failing quite badly in that regard.

Bottom line:decent, clean pub with reasonable beer selection and ambience. Go for the drinks and stay away from the menu- unless you want to overpay for food of course.

Meh -. My boyfriend and I decided to go to the Mills because of the location and I had been there before so thought it would be a nice evening. We get there, it is packed. They told us it would take 20 mins to get a table, so we went to the bar with the little flashy device. An hour later, they had forgotten about us. So we were promised a free app, which is nice. our server was really nice and attentive but to tell you the truth the food was really not that great... I ordered the vegetarian wrap and it tasted like mush. I'm usually not that picky but it wasn't good at all. My boyfriend didn't like his food either, was very dry and tasteless. The bill was 90$ for us both and it really wasn't worth it. Nice location but very loud and forgettable. Sorry...

Will try it again. After reading all the bad reviews was a bit hesitant about going. But my sister chose it for her birthday so off we went last night.

First thing I'll say, this place is LOUD. The acoustic are really poor but hey, it's an old building and the floors are hardwood / laminate as are the ceilings (it kinda looks like they used flooring on the ceiling!)

The place was PACKED! It was wing night and there was a Sens game. We were seated quickly, and service was very attentive. The food was slow coming and it was not mind blowing but it was OK. Beer was good. I had the Steak Frites. It is on the expensive side.

Will return for another try, cool location, very easy to park, attentive service, good beer.

I was surprised at how underwhelmed I was by this place. I had an overcooked burger and my date had tortiere pie with reheated mashed potatoes and frozen peas. The beer was good, but the service was off kilter and the $80 bill was not worth the quality of food we received. Go for beer and apps but be prepared to spend some cash. Might be better to just grab some brews to go and skip the expensive tab all together. Won't be going back.

Mediocre food is a drag. While the beer was quite good and our waiter was prompt and filled with enthusiasm, the food was really quite uninspired. It wasn't bad, just mediocre. I like the concept of brewpubs, the thing is I don't think the beer is enough of a draw to get me to go back to this particular one.

Is the Honeymoon Over?. The beer is always good, service on the weekend was great due to the place was basically empty. Sunday at 5pm and only 20 patrons??? Food was fine however was better last year. Are people bored with it already? We will go back.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't very busy but we still had to wait to be seated - which was a little weird but I digress. I went here with my girlfriend and my friend from England for beers but ordered nachos and calamari as well. The calamari was mediocre but the nachos were quite possibly the worst nachos I've ever had, how do you screw up chips, cheese and salsa with chicken sprinkled on top? It tasted like they molested them with salt and let them sit under the heat lamp for a day and a half. What really got me was that our waiter didn't ask how they were. I won't be going back.

Blah. We went to Mill Street tonight in hopes of a tasty pub supper. Had not been there in a few months and was disappointed to see the menu had changed - and not for the better. We ordered sweet potato fries to split as starter and they were tasty. Smoked chicken flatbread as our main - here's where it went downhill fast. Flatbread arrived warm on top and cold underneath the cheese - tasted like a frozen pizza that had not quite cooked all the way through. Our very apologetic server took it back to the kitchen. Few minutes later, fresh flatbreads arrived - again, took a bite and cold underneath the melted cheese. We asked for the bill (and to the server's credit, he only charged us for the beer my husband had) and got outta there fast. Nice atmosphere and beer, but uninspired menu and poor cooking - don't think we will be returning!

Service was a little slow but the beer is great (samplers are awesome). Really enjoyed the tourtière.
Sarah
Great atmosphere and cool historic architecture. The beer is flavorful and the food is great too. Try the crab and spinach dip. The only regret is that there wasn't more!
Daisy
Love this place! Interesting beers to try and the jerk sauce for the wings is incredible!!
Roxy
A group of 6 of us went yesterday and everyone enjoyed the food and beer! 5$ appetizers on Monday, can't go wrong with that! Free parking onsite.
Can't wait to go back.

Great location, great service. Food is nothing out of this world, but it is above average for a pub. Beers are very good. Definitely recommend and I am a repeat customer.

What a great experience !!. Hanna is the best barmaid ever !! Great conversationalist - very bright and pretty -always a step ahead. Noted that she was a very hard worker and that she never wastes a motion - a trait all great bartenders share. thanks for the company - I will be back !1

My family and I had a great dinner tonight! The service was especially notable- there was a wedding going on upstairs, and, as a result, our appetizer took a few minutes longer than usual to arrive (which our server told us was usually 8 minutes). As an apology, she voided our appetizer from the bill entirely! We were very impressed with her professionalism and friendliness. Food was very good. Two of us ordered the tuna salad and two ordered the kale salad. Overall, both were quite tasty. Kale could have been marinated for a bit longer to soften it. Strongly recommend this restaurant! The whole place is buzzing and electric. Can't wait for next time :)

Mill Street Brew Pub. First visit, had an excellent server named Marc. Beer is delicious. Liked the Caesar salad, flatbread and crab and spinach dip. Will definitely go back. The setting is unique and inviting.

Had a great time at the Mill St Brew Pub tonight. The chipotle beer was awesome! Our server Laura was very friendly, we'll definitely be back.

Not what I expected. Thought it was just an ordinary pub, but took us 20 minutes to get a seat. Our waitress Laurie was cheerful and great at explaining to us all the beer choices. Beef dip was mouth watering, their carnitas was a great start and tasted their club that was juicy and delicious. Not the dry chicken I'm used to from other places. Over all I understand why they are so busy. First time, but not the last. Wanna go back and their Tika, smelt so go when a waitress passed by with it.

First time going and the service, food and beer was great. Tried a sampler of 4 beers and my favourite was the organic lager. It had a very smooth taste to it. The calamari was also very good with the aioli and marinara sauces. I will definitely be going back, the atmosphere is great.

Gone down from when it first opened. Last year my husband and I paid quite a few visits to the Mill. Both for lunch and dinner and were never disappointed. Also brought out of town guests and recommended it to friends. This year not sure what has happened but menu has had changes and not for the better in some ways. Hopefully they will get back on top.

Great wings. Was at mill st last night, it was too bad it rained because their patio is awesome. Tuesday is their wing night (wings were $5.50 for 10), and with great service I definitely will definitely be back.

Just below average. The food at the mill street pub is fair. The menu is creative, but sometimes the menu description is not represented in the food itself (in my experience over or under cooked for the most part!). The environment is very noisy, and the service exceptionally slow (we waited 20 minutes for our orders to be taken, and another 25 for food to be delivered, and once we had finished eating, another 15 minutes to resolve our bills! They did offer us a server's discount to compensate, but the $6.25 discount really didn't make up for the lost time). The location is somewhat unique, but then again it's hard to get to, and you can't see the nearby falls from most locations in the restaurant. the other problem, is that they do not accept debit cards. They directed us to a private bank machine in the lobby, but that would have added another $3 in charges onto my experience. I think debit transactions are pretty much the norm these days, and I am surprised that they haven't caught onto that fact. Overall, I'd choose to spend my money somewhere else next time.
Jo
Slow service (really); dry boring burger; dry fries; asked 3 times before getting some mayo... at least the home brew beer is really good and the patio is nice!
Laura
Really????. A friend and I stopped in for a beer last night around 8 pm. We sat outside on the beautiful patio, but as usual service was slow. We waited, I kid you not, probably 10-15 minutes for our drinks to arrive while our server wandered aimlessly around, picking up stray glasses and checking on other patrons. She was pleasant enough but obviously lacking in experience.

The only reason I continue to occasionally frequent your establishment is because your location can't be beat. Beer is decent, service is usually okay, and food mediocre. You need to up your game.

PS - the guy wandering around to collect the salt and pepper shakers (it looked as though it might rain) had his hands all over them and I suspect was not paying much attention to whether he was in fact touching the tops of the shakers with his grubby paws. Your guests notice these things.

Not impressed Mill Street, not impressed.

It was just ok . Not the view I was hoping for, food average . Likely wouldn't return,

Mill Street Salt Factory. Went there for dinner about a month ago and had a hamburger. It was so salty that i sent it back. The staff was apologetic about that and took my beer and the meal off the bill. That was nice, but i do not think i will ever go back.

I agree with Wally West. Great atmosphere and drinks (nice beers and 4$ caesars), the staff were knowledgeable and friendly but the food is not good. I also got the taste of india appetizer. The dip was minimal and tasteless and the bread was really tough. The cobb salad i ordered was not a cobb salad. Instead of iceberg lettuce it was wilted leaves with hardly any other ingredients and it cost 17$. Not very impressed.

Went to Mill Street Brew Pub on June 15th. We wanted to do the tour but it was already full. Had a table and the patio and the restaurant looks amazing and had a great location. The beer was quite good. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Everything was pretty good until the food...

Our appetizer was the "taste of the Middle East" and the bread came out to us cold and hardened. None of the three dips were especially good or flavourful. My main course was the fish and chips. The French fries were terrible and the fish was very, very greasy. I understand its pub style food but I found it just wasn't good and I actually didn't feel good for the rest of the night. Sadly, the food is also very expensive, however, the portions are quite large.

Overall, the atmosphere, location and beer was great and sadly the food just wasn't good enough to recommend it. It gets a very marginal "don't like" from me but I'd go back sometime and give it another chance.

Boring menu, slow service. We went to Mill Street brewery for lunch yesterday. This was my second (and last) time I was there. The first time we went for brunch and I ordered the huevos rancheros. It was gross. The poached eggs were practically hard boiled. The red sauce that was poured over them tasted like it came out of an alphagetti can. I decided I'd give the restaurant another try yesterday. I really wanted to like it. They have a great atmosphere and good beer. For lunch yesterday I stared at the menu for a while and nothing was catching my eye. Their menu is boring. They seem to only have one signature item (the smoked pork or Chicken) and they tried to make every item on their menu out of this. There was a sandwich, a pizza, nachos, and a salad with this smoked meat on it. After a while of nothing sounding good I ordered the nachos with their pulled pork. It was good but nothing spectacular. It certainly wasn't $20 appetizer good. Also the service was incredibly slow. Just overall a disappointing experience and a waste of money. I won't be returning to Mill Street for a third time.

J'y retourne à coup sûr!. Très bon repas, service de qualité avec Guillaume, et en français à part ça!
Merci pour cet agréable moment.

Crowd pleaser...if you get in. Mill street is not rave-worthy. Most of it's charm is due only to its beautiful building. In it's favour, it has free parking, good service and a variety of offerings on the menu (both in terms of food and beer). What frustrates me is that every time I go, I call to make a reservation and am told that they do not take weekend reservations. When I arrive however, there are groups there that have a reservation, and tables set aside for reservations. I really don't know who you need to know at Mill Street to get a weekend reservation at this place. I once waited with a group for a table for an hour and a half. When we checked on the status of our table, we were told it would likely be another two hours (when we walked in we were told it would be two hours). I have left frustrated several times, but have also had some good experiences. There are some amazing tables with great views.

Our second time now going to mill street thanks to our great server Guillaume , we had to come back and see him but this time we sat at the bar due to the crappy weather . We had a wonderful server named Hannah who explained us all the beers and answered any questions we had with a warm smile about the menu . Food was delicious , service was awesome , definetly starting to see this place as one of my favorite places to come and relax and have a good time!

-----05 Jun, 2013-----

Went for some drinks on the patio , Guillaume was an amazing server , made us laugh alot and made us feel like home :) definetly will come back !!'

Great place!!!. I love this pub. Great vegetarian options, all delicious. Kudos to the chef and kitchen staff. The restaurant is beautiful and Pete (Bartender) goes out of his way to welcome you and ensure you are happy with everything. On my last visit Pete took the time to make me a drink based on my likes and dislikes and it turned out amazing. Big thanks to him!

Good Times!!. Great times at Mill Street! As good as the Toronto airport location if not better. We were served by Guillaume and he recommended the Mill Street Cobblestone Stout to me. If you're a fan of this kind of beer, you definitely want get a six-pack from their adjoining store before heading out!

Nice atmosphere. Love the place, food and beer!

Yes, Guillaume was great.

Great service. Just wanted to say our server, Guillaume was great.

Horrible service and overpriced

Never a solidly good experience.. I have been to Mill Street a few times and I have never had a solid, good experience. Sometimes the service is HORRIBLE but the food is good. Once my fish was dripping and leaking oil all over the place, but the service was decent. If you like beer, it's pretty good, but on a whole I wouldn't return here for a special night out as you can't count on them to make your experience wonderful.

I find their staff are slow, inattentive, and not knowledgeable about their products. Also, the menu is very overpriced for what you actually get.

Great beer, good food, great service. A bunch of us from work have tried several pubs in the market, westboro, and across the river. We stumbled upon Mill St one afternoon and found our watering hole. Mill St is by far the most consistent pub we have visited and we always have a great time. For a micro brewery the selection on tap is excellent and there's always a good cycle of seasonal brews. The food has failed to disappoint. Whether it's the ribs, pulled pork nachos, traditional pretzels, burgers, flatbreads, or tortiere you won't be disappointed. I've been there on the weekends for brunch and you have to try the waffles and chicken... sick.

Our first few times we sat at the bar but we were forced to sit at the bar once and from that point we have sat at the bar; thanks to Hannah and Karen. They are always good for a laugh, are quick to the taps, and are consumate professionals.

Had the beef burger and added blue cheese and bacon... delicious! Also had the Original Organic beer and tried their root beer, both were really good. Have come several times before and I will keep coming back to work on my MBA!

Great service, good food, affordable prices. Last night our girls dinner made its way to the Mill Street Brew Pub. We were lucky enough to be seated in Pepe section, who not only made great recommendations for beer and wine, but also made our night memorable. We laughed throughout the 4.5 hours we were there. We weren't rushed. Some of us ordered appetizers to start and then after a bit of a break we all ordered our main dishes. It seemed that before our glasses or plates were empty, Pepe was there to remove excess or offer more. The presentation of the meals were wonderful. Everyone loved their dishes (salmon, beet salad, crab dip, mussels, chicken masala (I think), and chicken wings.. the tastiest wings I have had in a long time).
Pepe thank you for having a sense of humour and joining in in the laughter. But most of all thank you for the great service.
P.S. I told my husband all about you ;)

Awesome service!. A friend and I visited Mill St. two nights ago to enjoy some of their great Vanilla Porter. Pepe our server was amazing and attentive. We will be sure to return soon!

Great fun!!. Stopped at Mill Street with a few friends for dinner a couple of weeks ago. First time at Mill Street for most. It was a very busy Saturday evening. Our server, Matt, was very attentive took good care of us. Hope we get his section next time. Our food delicious & cooked to perfection. We all enjoyed our meals. We would not hesitate to return very soon, great atmosphere and friendly staff! Good Job Mill Street!

Terrible service. My boyfriend and i went last night for appetizers and drinks - our server was quite neglectful, she seemed to be new to serving so perhaps more training could be beneficial. Our drinks we completely empty for minutes at a time before she would even realize and come ask us for a refill, then once we did place an order it would take her an additional 5 plus minutes to get the drink to our table - we thought perhaps the problem was the bar was busy, however we could see the bar making the drinks in a timely fashion- the problem was her lack of experience and only bringing one table a couple of drinks at a time. The view was nice, but other than that we wont be returning

Went here with my boyfriend on our weekend away. - the wait was long and our time waste at the bar was pretty confusing and uncomfortable but by the time we were seated and ordered everything was fantastic! I had a raspberry flavoured beer, not a beer fan at all but when the waitress read out brew specials I just had to try. We shared nachos as an app, easily the best nachos ever!!! I really enjoyed my meal- great flavour profile, could have done with a small side of salad or fries to round it out a bit more. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak and twice baked potato, said it was cooked perfect to how he ordered...will definitely return next time in Ottawa or even compare to the one in Toronto next chance I get! Worth the wait.

Fantastic Service, Great Beer, Just OK food. Recently went to this bar for the first time and overall enjoyed our experience. Love the variety of beers offered! We only tried a couple of the appetizers and weren't too excited about what we ordered. The chicken flatbread was fairly good but the spinach, crab dip was barely edible. The excellent service really was the highlight of our night and is what will probably bring us back to this spot again. From our initial welcome, to helping us with our beer selections to having us laughing out of our seats, our server Pepe is fantastic at his job and we will be back again because of him!

The seasonal IPA was great, loved the pulled pork nachos. Please make sure Brigitte our fabulous waitress is working every Wednesday.

Great food and EXCELLENT service. I am also having my wedding reception there and Rachel the events coordinator has been amazing to work with.

This was my third time at the restaurant, and the service was exceptional. Matthew, our server, provided fantastic suggestions for food and drink. The pulled pork cheddar burger was amazing. Really enjoyed the homemade root beer, too!

A Toast to Pepe. I traveled to Canada to see my friend and celebrate our co-birthday and support her during her divorce. Each day was bittersweet, glad to be together and sad for the demise of her marriage. On our birthday we decided to eat at Brew Mills. The pub is a lovely establishment and the food is good enough to deserve a recommendation on its own; however it was Pepe who made our evening one of the most memorable.

Upon hearing that it was our birthday, Pepe brought out an enormous piece of red velvet cake and sang for us in Spanish. I don’t know Spanish, but the song was beautiful and sung beautifully. He moved my friend to tears. It was very, very touching and so generous for Pepe to extend himself so much for our benefit.

Words cannot express the depths of my gratitude. So, Pepe – if you are out there reading this – thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so kind to my friend.

Went with some friends for dinner and was quite surprised! Good food, atmosphere, beer, definitely will go back.

Good Food and Great Atmosphere. I went to dinner here last night (Tuesday at around 7pm) with my parents. It was a really nice place to eat. The atmosphere was really nice. The place is an old stone building. It was warm and inviting and had character. It wasn't too loud so we could have a conversation during dinner. The waiter was quick, helpful, and very nice. The food was good. The portion size was great. I wish I hadn't eaten as much as I did, would have loved to have tried dessert, but there was no room.

Loves it!. I went to Mill Street a few times when they first opened but had not been back for a few months. I went on Friday night and loved it. My server told me that they were trying out a few new menu items and that I should try one of the features. I decided to go with the elk burger. I have not had elk in the past and was a bit hesitant but I'm glad I went for it! Delicious! I had an October beer to drink and found it to be very good. I don't normally write restaurant but my server was quite insistent that I do. Cheers Mill Street!

Nice!. I love the beer, love the apps, and love their club sandwich. Yes, at times you have to wait to be seated but you can down some delicious beer while you wait.

Too bad. This was my first experience at Mill St. pub and I must say it was a complete disappointment. It was very very busy on a Friday lunch (ok, to be expected) but it was awful. The wait was forever (over 1 hour) and then the food was bad. Less than good pub food and over priced at that. The location and the beautiful day were the only good things about those torturous 2 hours....
