Review Evoo Greek Kitchen - Ottawa

After a Very long wait... my partner and I waited so long to come back to Evoo to eat the delicious meals of the Sea!!. Well, she was the picker of the amazing plates of food. We had a Blast! We were treated excellently, the service was quick and trust me it was pretty busy. Anyways, The food was amazing as we once knew years ago and I tried the Octopus for the 1st time and I really Loved it! Next Time! Will bring more friends to this excellent place of food of the Sea! Til Next time!

Updated - March 5, 2022. Went back with a friend. Food is still amazing. Get the octopus, you won't be sorry. I love that the plates are mostly designed to share, so you get to try many things. Had a lovely meal with friends. We ordered several dishes to share amongst us. All were tasty and great portions. Will go back again.

Absolutely FANTASTIC food. Ambiance is very nice too. Food is a bit pricey but the taste is worth it. If you’re a larger person or very hungry, you may want to order “for two”.

Delicious food, large and shareable portions that make for a cozy experience. Staff are friendly, restaurant is tidy and well maintained. All community safety guidelines are being followed. There were two of us and we ordered: Tzatziki & Flat Bread Green Salad Lemon Potatoes Mixed Meat Shareable Plate for Two Our total for the night before the tip was about $120. With this amount of food, I think 3-4 people could have finished it in one sitting, as we ended up taking a lot of it home and had it for dinner the following day.

The service here is great , but the food we had was horrible on the specific day we went. I have never Eaten such tough calamari and octopus in my life.It was so horribly over cooked. Everything else was great. The haloomi with bread , the salad and desert were amazing. Too bad the Chef was having an off day. I’ve been there before and the meat platter was amazing. I would return but never again with the seafood board.

Really delicious Greek food. A bit pricey but everything is now. The shrimp and dip combo were especially nice.

I finally made it to EVOO! Which by the way stands for Extra Virgin Olive Oil! 🤣 Being Greek myself I can appreciate the goodness of this nectar of the Greek Gods being used in their dishes! It’s the fountain of youth! The ambiance was fun with great friendly staff and the food was excellent! I will definitely return! 👍😎 🇬🇷 🇨🇦

First time coming to EVOO and it was a great brunch experience! Nice to try a place that has more innovative brunch dishes and a spin on the “traditional” ones. The Dakos was refreshing with the watermelon and mint. The benny had perfectly poached eggs and lamb that wasn’t overpowering. The Mykonos fried chicken burger was juicy, wonderfully constructed and full of flavour. Excited to come back and try the dinner menu!

The staff were very friendly and helpful! The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The sharing stable of the restaurant is quite enjoyable and I would highly recommend. The prices were reasonable for the quality of food. My one complaint would be the wine menu selection, there was not a single wine from Canada. Living so close to the county and the Niagara region, I was disappointed in this.

We just had a good little lunch/cocktails. Avocado Salad was refreshing on a hot day, and we also had a spit fired pork dish. I admit the pork was really fatty, and some pieces were tough to eat. Sat on the patio and got to enjoy the Ferrari parade . I don't think we will go back, but glad we were finally able to experience it. Our server was extremely friendly with a contagious smile, i can't say the same about the grumpy one who seated us :)

I have finally, 7 months later tried this restaurant, and we weren’t disappointed! Yes it is on the pricier side of restaurants, however the food is was very tasty and flavourful, not to mention the staff and service. The atmosphere of the place is normal; nothing out of the ordinary. We started off with the trio dip to share which is amazing! Then had the mixed grill, grilled calamari (I can’t explain in words how amazing it was) and had a side of salad and potatoes. Their potatoes were so unique and flavourful! Everything was absolutely tasty and I will definitely be coming here again! Loved it!

I would have liked to have commented on the quality of the food and standard of service. But sadly management screwed up the reservation
made by my past employer which was to be a reunion with my past associates (I’m retired). The restaurant turned me away however claiming that the reservation was cancelled (mistakenly).
I have never, ever in my life been let down so badly and without any attempt by management to convey it’s apologies.

This is one of the best restaurants in town. Went once for dinner and once for brunch. Absolutely everything was good. 😋 the moussaka and the fruit plate we’re outstanding.

I honestly have nothing bad to say. This place is amazing! Definitely must try: the cheese croquettes, meat platter and the grilled octopus. All the grilled meets are tender and marinated with a ton of flavour. Even dessert is amazing - there is a vanilla custard dessert that is sort of like a baklava-custard tart fusion that is just the right combination of smooth and flaky textures. Food comes quickly, service is very friendly. My only qualm is that the venue is rather small, but it makes for a cozy dining experience, if you like that. Highly recommend.

Went to EVOO last night for a friends birthday. The food was good. We had the meat sharing platter for 5 people and there was a lot left over. The lamb was delicious. The service was mediocre.

Wife and I went with a couple of friends. The meal was absolutely delicious. The service and pace of the meal were wonderful. The owner has a hands on approach and was warm and welcoming. The atmosphere of this lovely restaurant is friendly and the sharing style of the menu makes it perfect for groups and families. The owner actually makes you feel like family.

Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Overpriced and pretentious, mediocre ingredients and small portions. Much better options on Preston. Our table of four felt hungry and angry after spending 260 at this place. Will never go back!

It was our first time this Sunday at your location. Despite the rain outside ( or was it even more because of it?) we noticed a warm, cheerful ambiance as soon as we got in. Two people were celebrating their birthday at two different tables and each time the staff made sure to bring a surprise desert with a sparkling mini candle. Our own group of three was celebrating my belated birthday so we chose the mixed grill for three completed by a luscious Greek salates and nice potatoes. Lamb pork and chicken were tasty and tender. Wine, sangria and coffe were in tune with the lovely meal. Thanks to my friends and the staff who with their joie de vivre made this evening a real festival!!

Contemporary Greek Food at its finest. Great spot for drinks and shareables with friends. The EVOO menu boasts many options, even though I'm a pescatarian and don't eat poultry, pork or red meat. Great service, ambiance and general experience.

OMG!!!!! Love this place! The Greek salad is DELICIOUS!!! The calamari are so flavourful! The spanakopita is mouth-watering! The service is spectacular! Honestly, one of the best restaurants in Ottawa! Definitely recommended!!!!!!🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮😀

Food was great! Full of authentic flavour and generous portions. Service was poor.. Barely saw our server which made for a lack lustre experience. With only having 4 other tables and another server, I would expect to see someone more.

Those who aren’t hard-core foodies may not recognize the ‘EVOO’ in the restaurant name as meaning ‘Extra Virgin Olive Oil’, although most will probably discern that Greek cuisine is very much on the menu. There are two Greek restaurants in Ottawa that I had been meaning to try for quite a while and when I finally made it to this one, set (a bit incongruously) in the heart of Little Italy, it turned out to be well worth the taxi-ride…

Very nice atmosphere ,great service and very good Food as well as wine choice suggested by waitress who was very knowledgable . I have been at the restoraunt for lunch last summer and it was a great experience so we made a last minute decision to come to the restaurant for dinner and we were fortunate to get in without a reservation . My business activities take me to restoraunts and this is one that will be one amongst a few that are top of our list .

Loved EVOO! Lively, modern atmosphere. Had that family feel to the restaurant. The owner came by a few times to chat and I thought that was great! Almost made you feel that we had been there many times before but it was my husband and my first time at the restaurant. We had wine and beer and ordered lamb chops, Greek salad and zucchini cakes to share. The food was amazing! Tasty and homemade. Seasoned perfectly, the lamb chops were my fave! Rating as 4.5 only because EVOO is on the pricey side. So worth trying!

A healthy, wholesome lunch & delightful dinner date shareables at Preston’s ‘no-so-Italian’ restaurant. I first visited EVOO in the middle of a heat wave this past July. Grateful for the open breeze tables next to Preston Street’s hungry pedestrian-filled sidewalk, I ordered myself a cold caeasar
Boutip Phil
Great food especially the lamb and the Houmalli cheese plates. All ingredient are super fresh and well prepared. Great service with reasonable price. Greta wine list with quite a few Greek wine I had not heard of before.

I don't normally complain about service because my attitude is generally "if the food is good, who cares?" The food was good. I went for lunch with my bf and I had the calamari and he had the pork souvlaki. The food was tasty, cooked well and the Greek salad was very fresh. However we were only 2 and it took about 40 minutes to get our food, even though we had a reservation. All we got was a brisk "sorry about the wait". I'm hesitant to go back because of this.

The Ottawa Zomato meetup took place in Little Italy at EVOO Greek Kitchen, organized by community manager Samantha. This is not my first meetup that I have attended. The first one was in Montreal, hosted by Genevieve, at my favourite Latin American restaurant - Ceviches. That was the time of the official launch of Zomato Montreal. I got to meet several food bloggers that I haven't had a chance to meet in person.

Greek cuisine is best described as a simple humble meal that is shared with family and friends. The food is typically grilled or roasted over charcoal. Our menu is concocted in such a way that we can explore the many facets of Greek cuisine. Throughout our meal, the food is presented beautifully on a large wooden board. Everything is served family-style...

I had a great time at EVOO Greek Kitchen for the Zomato foodie meet up. I loved the ambiance and the warm, inviting vibe. The staff (both front of house and the kitchen crew) were fantastic. I have some dietary restrictions and they went above and beyond to accommodate me. They made a special stuffed pepper dish, with pine nuts, rice and raisins, just for me! Thanks to Zomato and EVOO for a fantastic night out.

Don't know where to begin about my Evoo experience. The food is superb, the staff... aaaahmazing and the dining room provides a nice space to spend a beautiful evening to enjoy the greek cuisine! Went here for our first #ZomatoMeetup and it proved to be a wonderful choice! Great Greek wine to compliment the food, Greek salad, chicken prepared the Greek way (brined for 3 hours) and my favourites of the night: the trio of Greek spreads and lamb chops! Shout out to the fancy spicy feta dip! We'll be reunited again soon! The grilled calamari deserves some recognition as well! Definitely a must try you guys! A group descended on Evoo last week and we were very well attended to. There was a set menu for us served family style, which went well with the casual atmosphere of the place.
Things started off with dips served with pita. I asked for cucumber slices because I'm gluten-free*. A plate of cukes and sliced peppers appeared almost instantly. The highlights were the fish (forget the official name) and the spicy feta. Yummy grilled halloumi with tomatoes was loved by all (can't go wrong with squeaky cheese). The eggplant was my least favourite because I'm not a fan of garlicky things. Olives accompanied each course because, hey, Greek!
Next we had grilled octopus and calamari. Everyone loved the calamari except me, I found the texture doughy, but I really was into the octopus, which no one else seemed to groove on to much. The flavour was bold and the texture meaty.
We topped things off with lamb, which was solid, and chicken that was strangely amazing. Seriously, I don't get excited about chicken, but the flavour was just really simple yet super chickeny.
I'd definitely come back here and try their regular menu. It's a pretty casual place on Preston and the balcony seemed quite pleasant. *I've since learned that the delicious fish spread, taramosalata, is made with bread! I only had a bit but I've been suffering from fatique and headache for days. Not sure if this was the cause, however, the restaurant was warned ahead of time that one of group was gluten-free. I definitely would have abstained had I known :(

A couple of weeks ago I received an invite from Zomato to attend Ottawa's first Zomato Meetup at EVOO Greek Kitchen (438 Preston Street, Ottawa). After purchasing Urbanspoon in January 2015, and after many months of Zomato's tech team amalgamating and sifting through reams of data, finally turning out the lights on Urbanspoon on June 1st, I was intrigued about learning more about Zomato and what their meet ups entailed.
@missfish
I'm not sure if this is an entirely fair review because I was here as part of a foodie meet up and we received special service and attention. I will say however, that I'll be back! Menu highlights for me included a pita/Greek spread platter (the feta spread was to die for) calamari, and chicken. And the tzatziki was amazing, the best I've ever had.

Came here for a nice dinner with a group of people. We got to try out quite a few things like a cheese platter, lamb chops, chicken, calamari, etc

The service was prompt, and the waiters were really nice. The food was awesome, specifically the lamb chops. So good!!

Still looking for a good Greek restaurant in Ottawa. Inconsistent best describes this bar/restaurant. Chicken dish inedible on 2 of 4 visits. Ok other 2. You're ignored if you don't like to drink. Inattentive servers forgot wife's birthday despite same day reminder

One of our local favorites. I am surprised that the reviews are lower than 80% here. We dine out A LOT and not only that we like to go to Michelin rated restaurants, always look for the top rated restaurants in any city that we visit. We have had our fair share of poor meals, unflavourful dishes and well sloppy meals were you wonder why I restaurant is open. we must visit EVOO once a week as the food is ALWAYS good, we haven't had a bad experience. Not only do we find the food flavourful.....everything from the gyros, to the lamb, keftedes to their mezes, they are one of these best restaurants we have been to In Ottawa. in the sense that EVERY dish is consistent. That is a hard thing to find and we have been to some of the highly rated restaurants in Ottawa and still find that overall there is a dish or two that isn't up to par. Not only that the atmosphere is relaxing without it feeling like you are in a diner, there are some nice upgrades to the restaurant that add a nice touch. service is informal but friendly. So happy to have this restaurant on Preston.....can't wait to make my weekly visit :-)

Ate here recently. The bald owner is pretty hot. His food was even hotter. I like the sausage.

Amazing experience and great food.. Try the Mezes platter if you don't know what to order. Great food and great service. Elias and all the other staff are amazing. They really make you feel like you're part of the family.

Delicious Greek food. Both at the restaurant and when we order take out, Evoo's food is hearty and flavourful. My go-to for Greek. Period.

Terrible service - waiter was really lost - brought out things we didn't order, forgot others. Food was average - zucchini cakes were tasteless. Halloumi salad was good. Terrible calamari
Dips - as good as anything you can buy at costco. All available desserts were with custard and phyllo - really? Come on now. Overall not impressed

Rave reviews from all my guests. I went here for my birthday, chosen as a tip-off by someone who recommended the restaurant. I started off with the spanikopita, which was so buttery and beautiful (may have been the best I've ever had). I ordered the lamb chops afterwards, which was phenomenon... unfortunately for my grandma (whose lamb I love), I'd have to say these were better. However, I was extremely jealous of my 4 friends who split what ended up being a mountain of meat on a wooden platter, which they couldn't finish but who all found tasted amazing. I also went with a friend who has a gluten allergy, and she was very happy to find that most of the main courses (other than the moussaka) were gluten free. Overall, would recommend and would definitely come back.

Disappointing. Overbooked and unorganized. We had made a reservation and had to wait close to half an hour before we were seated. The service was really slow, the appetizers were overcooked and food cold. Overall experience was very disappointing.

Best Salad in Ottawa. I love all their salads. I drive out from Albert Street for lunch almost every week, because nothing else compares. The sharing plates are also great, the décor trendy and comfortable and the staff invested in making you happy. What more could you want?!

Since my comment keeps getting deleted "mysteriously" I will re-write it... First off the food used to be excellent here. It has definitely gone downhill (not sure why?) the prices were reasonable but now I find it way overpriced for what you get. Don't get me started on the service. The handful of times I've been here, service has been atrocious each time. Extremely slow, not attentive, socializing among other waiters/waitresses, etc. I had to wait 30 minutes for my bill last time and when I tried to flag down our waitress, she looked at me and then kept walking. Very unprofessional.
Always Hungry
Calamari. That's all I gotta say!!. I love coming here to eat! Whether you sit at the bar or at a table, with friends or solo, EVOO always serves up a good time. I love love love their calamari and come just for this dish, although always end up ordering other plates as well (ask the server what the specials are! Sometimes they have flaming cheese, mmmmm haha!)
Itamccabe
Braised lamb on a flatbread.. Very disappointing choice. The lamb was dried out and tastelesss as was the whole flatbread. Could have used some Taziki and fresh herbs. On top of that the bread tasted mouldy!!!
Worst lunch I've had lately.
I picked this restaurant because of the good reviews but obviously that was a big mistake.

Enjoyable Resto! Great food & Entertainment!. I've been to Evoo Greek Kitchen on various occasions and each time I've gone it's been a great experience. The service is exceptional, along with the food and the overall dining setting.
It's a great place to be whether you want to dine for two, or celebrate a function and dance to beats! Check it out if you haven't yet!

The best new restaurant in Ottawa! Food is amazing. All the Greek delicacies you'd ever imagine in one place. I've tried most of the menu and it's all delicious and always fresh. Great job EVOO!

One of my favourite places in the city. Great atmosphere, modern decor, and a fantastic menu.

The lamb chops are the absolute best in the city, hands down and a unique selection of Greek cocktails and beers makes this place stand out.

Most importantly, owners Elias and April make you feel like family each and every time!

Great dining experience!. Food was excellent and our server was very polite and efficient. The modern decor of the restaurant also added to our overall enjoyment. We tried the chicken and lamb chops and both were exceptional.... I highly recommend EVOO to anyone!

Great Food, Great Service!!. I've been to EVOO Greek Kitchen on many occasions. I have always had a really good experience. The atmosphere is fun and friendly and the food is always amazing! I really enjoy the spreads and this spot is a great place to go for sharing platters. The service is great, i recommend this place to anyone looking for a greek experience!

Delicious!. One of the greatest restaurants I've been to in the city! Very cozy, great ambiance and amazing staff! I highly recommend checking this out. It's the perfect little spot for a date night!

My New Favourite Spot!. I just recently moved to Ottawa from Downtown Toronto and have been searching for a restaurant that I could show off to my friends when they come to visit... I FOUND IT! Helloooo EVOO! Besides the attentive service and down to earth atmosphere the food is amazing! I have lived here now for 3 months and I'm not embarrassed to say I can't even count how many times I have been back! I can honestly say I have tried just about everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. The Chopped Chicken and the Meat Balls are literally perfect.

Best Greek Restaurant in Ottawa!!. A quaint and lovely restaurant/lounge that I have enjoyed so many times. Great for any occassion.

The charcoal grill is amazing!

Unique selection of greek wines!

Great service!

Surprise Amazing Brunch!. Sick of waiting for over an hour to get into a good brunch spot in Ottawa, especially with 8 people, I had gotten a gift certificate for a co-worker at EVOO and thought I would see if they had Brunch, they do! No reservations were required, we just came right in and we were the only ones in the restaurant for Brunch which was a little bit concerning but that fear was quickly put to rest when our meals started to come out. I had the Pan Fried Eggs with Pork Belly and an incredible side salad. The rest of our group had everything in between including the crepes and the out of this world Baked Eggs. The home fries had a nice spicey kick to them too. Our expectations of EVOO for Brunch were far exceeded and would for sure recommend and go back, just don't want it to get too popular or we are back to Ottawa's 1 hour wait for a good Brunch place...

Excellent first visit. We recently had dinner at Evoo for the first time. What a great experience. The food was amazing, the service the perfect mix of informative and attentive. We asked the owner to choose our food which included an excellent appetizer board; meatballs, octopus, shrimp, dips and bread. All perfectly cooked and presented. Our mains were again decided by the owner and turned out to be the most amazing lamb I have ever had; perfectly cooked and seasoned and some tender and succulent chicken along with creamy, lemony potatoes. All this was completed with a lovely red wine. There are some excellent wines from Greece that cannot be bought at the LCBO. We finished with an assortment of desserts; baklava, creamy custard and filo. All in all we cannot wait to return. Highly recommend Evoo.

Used to love this place but the service has seriously gone downhill since they first opened as well as the quality of the food. I would understand having to wait a little longer for service if the restaurant was busy and the employees were actually doing work. Sadly that was not the case. As me and my friends waited for service, as well as other customers, the waiters could be seen hanging next to the bar drinking espressos and socializing. This seems to be a recurring issue ...on several occasions service was nonexistent and I always find myself waiting at the front door to be seated. This is a great place with a lot of potential... Hope they address some of these issues soon

Glass in food!!!. Very unfortunate experience at this restaurant. Have been three times in the hopes that things would get better because we enjoyed the food and atmosphere... Service is awful - over an hour wait for brunch when restaurant is empty and then when food finally arrived, there was a piece of GLASS in the potatoes. Completely unacceptable and disconcerting. This should never have happened. Unfortunately we will not be returning and will not have complimentary things to say about this establishment.

Been there twice now for dinner and drinks. Both times, food was delicious.

On the first time our server was being shadowed by a trainee. They were both nice and helped us with ordering from the very Greek menu. We ordered a large selection of food for our pretty big group. I would recommend that anybody in a group of four or more get the mixed grill. It is a platter with several different types of meat. The lamb was perfectly cooked.

On the second trip, we went for appetizers and drinks. The bartender Mike served us. He was so friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed ourselves. Even stayed till closing time.

All in all, good food and a good time. I would definitely go back!
Dining With Toddler
Fastastic addition to Preston. It is always a good sign when the restaurant is full on a Sunday evening and EVOO did not disappoint. We were a party of 4 including three adults and one mostly well behaved toddler and we were treated to amazing food and welcoming, warm service.
Recommend trying as many of the apps as possible. We had the zucchini and the trio dips, great for sharing. Mains were generous and equally yummy. Particularly impressed with the avocado and halloumi salad which could have run the risk of being too rich but was very nicely balanced with loads of greens and veggies. Also a treat is the nice selection of greek wines on the list, a perfect match to the food. Will definitely return to try sample more of the menu.

Disappointing on almost every level. Let me start by saying this: I didn't intend to write an online review of this restaurant. Instead, I had hoped to send some online feedback directly to the restaurant itself. Unfortunately, their website doesn't have any online feedback forms or even an email address, so here I am.

Greeting: walked in with my girlfriend, no one at the door. Waited several minutes for someone to come over and see us.
Service: I don't even know if the term service really applies. Our "server" brought us menus, brought us a bottle of water and two empty glasses and left them on the table for us to pour our own water (didn't even bother filling our glasses when she brought them), explained absolutely nothing on the menu (hint: there are some complicated Greek words that most people won't understand, might help to provide an explanation), took our food order and then we didn't see her until we flagged her down to pay after we were way more late than we wanted to be.
Wait time: took at least 25 minutes for us to get our food at lunch. We ordered some time before 12:20 and got our food sometime after 12:45. Again, no one came by to see us at any point between ordering and receiving our food so we had no idea what the hold up was.
Food: below average, at best. We had no expectations going in. We were just in the mood for Greek and this place came up as a recommendation. We ordered 2 of the lunch plates: Calamari ($15) and the Spit-Fired Pork - Kotosouvli Hirino ($17). Not sure how or why it took so long to get these plates. Nor do I know what Kotosouvli Hirino is (maybe if someone who worked there had bothered explaining anything) but the menu said 2 chops and the pork on the plate came chopped up in small pieces and had many pieces of pure fat kicking around among the pieces of pork. With regard to the flavor and taste of the pork, it was nothing exciting. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to taste and it's just something not to my liking, but I won't know because no body bothered coming around to check on us and see if we were enjoying the food we got. My girlfriend's Calamari were way below average. Slightly rubbery but not much of a crunch or crisp to the outside and very very light in color (perhaps they were initially undercooked and then potentially sat under a heat lamp for a while? Just guessing). Her Greek salad was sitting in roughly an inch to an inch and a half of olive oil. My salad appeared to have no dressing at all. The tzatziki was delicious. The fries were fries. The bread was very hard, had a slight aroma of being burnt and had no redeeming qualities - totally unappetizing.

Then when we were done eating we had to try several times to get our server to bring us the check so that we could leave. And that's that.

Not sure why we would ever come back. You can't even contact management via email to complain about the abysmal experience because they don't even have any info listed on their website outside of a phone number. The food was poor in many regards and while it may have been fresh it lacked in many ways flavor-wise. The wait times were ridiculous - especially for lunch and especially for the plates that we ordered. And the "service" was so hilariously bad they may as well be self-serve.

Oh, and I also forgot the funniest part. When I went to pay, they had their debit machine configured to suggest either a 20% tip or a different amount. You actually had to go through several screens just to be able to select what amount of tip you wanted to leave. Maybe if our server had filled our waters, explained the menu, made sure we got our food in a timely fashion, brought our food to the table, checked on us while we were eating and just generally have been around when needed (she did none of these things) maybe then she would have deserved 20%.
James
Terrible Experience. Came here the other day for lunch, waited over 45 minutes for our food. At no point did the waiter acknowledge or speak to use about what was causing the delays or even to refill our water for that matter. I understand that the lunch rush can be busy but at least an acknowledgment of the delay and when we could expect our food would be appreciated. When the food finally arrived it was cold and missing several key ingredients. My partner ordered the flat-bread and instead of it having manouri cheese on it, it was covered in kraft shredded cheddar cheese.

Very disappointed and I will definitely not be returning.
JR
Order wrong, undercooked lamb. Much of the food at Evoo is good, but we ordered the lamb entree as one of the dishes to share, and it came with two chops instead of the three specified on the menu (so, one third of a $35 dish was missing). When we asked about the missing chop, they brought us a third that had obviously been rushed since it was raw inside. They then brought a second replacement, which was overcooked and mostly fat with little meat.

A truly disappointing end to an otherwise good meal.

A group of us came last night for a late dinner. The place is beautiful. Nicely decorated and not pretentious at all. Nice atmosphere with just enough class. Our server was friendly and treated our party very well. We are a loud group of restauranteurs and he handled us with professionalism and courtesy. Good job on service.
Now for the food. It was good. Octopus was on the small rubbery side. Calamari was overdone but had nice flavour and crunch. Shrimp was Delicous. Our lamb chops were good, but not great for 35 dollars for three chops. That's a little steep. Rice was nicely done with pine nuts and the raisins gave the rice extra extra flavour and contrast which I liked.
Wine list is on par with price and selection. The dessert Baklava was the best of them all. Don't miss out on that one! Overall is was a pleasant experience, we would go back again.

Overcharged on order....Be careful!. Careful that you dont get over charged for your dish. Ordered for the first time take out and was over charged without my knowledge, when I looked at my receipt and I asked, I was told they had just "changed their menu prices that day" buuuut.... they still showed me the "old" menu??? and not inform you... hmmm... Tisk Tisk!
You be the judge, photo provided

Good food but service???. The food was ok but took a really long time. We we're more than a little disappointed at a stellar list of fresh fish on the menu but when requested we're told everything was not available of the seven or eight items only Red snapper which you can get just about anywhere. The servers spent more time socializing with their friends and family who seemed to make up a large part of the clientele than making sure drinks were filled and plates cleared, constantly having to look for our server just to refill water was tedious. Octopus was good and so was the calamari, however the server forgot to bring us our salads and even though not on the bill it seemed to be pretty typical with other tables where plates were forgotten or wrong dishes served. Unfortunately we were looking for a really good Greek restaurant in Ottawa but have no desire to come back.

Bland and so-so. We arrived for dinner on the first night of greekfest and the place was packed. We had shared plates,' the calamari, cheese pie, shredded pork and the ubiquitous Greek salad.
The shredded pork was dry and lacked any garlicky flavour, something that is usually associated with this pork dish The cheese pie arrived and it was stone cold---the exterior was browned and crispy but the interior cheesy centre of the pie was cold. We sent it back and when it was returned to us, it was "warm" but not oozing and lacked any flavour. The calamari was served with fabulous tzaziki that snapped of garlic--wow! Unfortunately, the Greek salad was very bland and lacked flavour. Our bill came to 90$ plus tip( we had wine) . Don't know if a e will come back.

Amazing Breakfast. This place rivals the notorious breakfast champion Baker Street Cafe. It might be my new favourite breakfast venue.

Excellent food and service. Don't pass this place up.

Delightful!. We went to this restaurant last night, and it was an awesome experience overall. First of all, the staff is friendly and the even friendlier owners stroll around making sure everything is all right; they chat with patrons about their likes and take their suggestions, and offer advice about plates and food. It really shows they have a passion for what they do! These guys have a spark in their eyes when they talk about their restaurant and their food!

We had the calamari, which was heavenly, done exactly right, same as in Greece (I have been there close to a month, some years ago). Then the lamb chops, which were the bests I ever had, juicy, meaty, and exactly as when dining around the Mediterranean Sea! ...

And those fries with kosher sea salt, oh my! All accompanied by Greek beer and, for my fellow diners, Greek wine (which was surprisingly good, they said). The Tsatsiki was very authentic, absolutely awesome, done tight using firm yoghourt, and none of that sour cream crap...

All in all, we will return to this very authentic Greek restaurant. It offers simple plates that are done in a very authentic way, with highest quality ingredients! Very recommended!

Awesome food and awesome service. Lamb chops and calamari were to die for!

Better Food than the Service Suggests. Delicious food, beautiful presentation, mediocre service. I was with a party, so I understand that I should reasonably expect slower service. But dishes piled up after multiple courses without being cleared away, water was never replenished until requested, the bread basket was only delivered after the apetizers were mostly finished, and the Specials menu was never brought to my attention, even when I told the waiter I had no idea what to order and had requested suggestions and recommendations. All that to say, I found the food exceptionally delicious and would be tempted to return to try more of the items.

Not worth the money. I had take-away greek salad and calamari. The calamari was very overcooked and hard, barely seasoned. And the greek salad was bland. The best part was the tiny sliver of feta they put on it. I'm not sure what I paid $16 for..

Atmosphere is Everything. Took my friend from Winnipeg to little Italy and we decided to try out EVOO. Our waitor was amazing, he was outgoing and friendly, and made good connections with the tables. I had the lamb which was cooked perfectly and a few house drinks recommended by our waitor, which were excellent. I wasn't a huge fan of the Lima Beans I had ordered as a side, I had to drown them with tzatziki sauce. But I felt so relaxed and welcome at EVOO that I think they could have served anything and I would have felt at home. I definetely recommend to anyone looking to try something new!

Amazing food, nice patio, sold. Went there last night with two friends and happily ate entirely too much. The chicken with tzatziki is some of the best! I have been a few times and every time I go one of the owners has stopped by to make sure I was enjoying my experience and that the food was to my liking. I don’t often get that kind of attention at restaurants and find it refreshing. The relaxed and modern atmosphere is nicely matched with attentive servers and delicious cocktails. Highly recommend for dinner or drinks... especially on the patio!

Waste of time and money. I've had to repost this same review 4 times because EVOO keeps deleting it. I've now revised it taking out the thing they don't want you to know. Here's the rest of my experiences with them.

I have been here several times since it opened because I was excited to finally have a Greek restaurant that wasn't just take out food in Ottawa again. When Evoo first opened the portions were massive for the price, where we couldn't understand how they were making money off how much food they gave us for the price. We'd leave with a take out bag full every time. They started revising the menu and increasing the menu prices drastically and cutting down the portion sizes, where you weren't getting any value for your dollar. On top of losing value, the food quality has drastically decreased to the point where everything you order is either soggy or cold. I tried ordering a Caesar one day for brunch and they were out of vodka, so I was asked if I'd like a gin or tequila Caesar. On a separate occasion I ordered a gin and tonic and they were out of tonic. Are you kidding? Out of tonic? Alright, if you're out of tonic, it happens, I'll order some of your Greek wine. Oh you're out of almost your entire list of Greek wine because it's being shipped from Greece, ok how about your Californian wine that you can buy at the LCBO, oh you only have the $70 bottle and nothing else. Is the Californian wine coming in from Greece too? Obviously this place is run by a bunch of amateurs who don't care about their customers. So their food is poor at best, they have no wine, no mix for drinks, and no selection of liquor. Looks like I'll be ordering Greek take out from anywhere else until there is a REAL Greek restaurant that opens in Ottawa.

Good first experience with Evoo. The food is good, I tried the octopus, calamari and one of their spreads (I forget what it's called). I didn't like the spread, but that probably says more about my taste in food rather than their ability to make it.

I loved the romantic and chill atmosphere created by the modern decor, dim lighting and music playing.

What stood out to me the most was super friendly service. The waiter who sat us down explained the menu without droning on needlessly so it gave us a good idea about the menu. We also had another waiter, he was also super friendly and attentive.

Would definitely go again and try some of their other dishes.

Probably One of the Worst Service Experiences I Have Ever Had. I booked a reservation for my wife and I this past Saturday and EVOO for her birthday. I called 5 days in advance and booked the reservation for 2. 30 minutes prior to my arrival I received and automated text message from EVOO asking me to "Confirm" or "Cancel" my reservation for 7:30pm which i obviously replied confirm. Upon arriving at EVOO we were greeted by a young female hostess who lacked "people skills" to say the least. I mentioned my name and reservation time to which she replied "we don't have your name in here" "are you sure its for 730?" and "I'm going to have to check if we have room for you". She then proceeded to walk in front of my wife and I to assist the people behind us because we were no longer a priority.

After waiting for a few minutes while she consulted other staff members we were finally seated at the front of the restaurant at a table you would sit at in a sports bar. We sat there with no menus, no water, no nothing for 10 minutes while servers walked by us and around serving the other two tables and the party. After 10 minutes of not one person even acknowledging our existence we finally got up and walked down the road to La Roma where we ate and had a wonderful evening.

I wouldn't waste your time with this place and their second class service. The most pathetic part is they have my name and phone number but could probably care less about our experience.

Highway robbery. Went there for lunch a while back. Ordered the chopped chicken platter (15$) and it only came with salad and some pieces of potato wedge. No rice, no tzatziki, no pita bread, had to order all of that on the side which I'd receive by default in any other Greek restaurant. The cucumber in the salad was soggy so were the tomatoes. The quality of chicken was good though it was not boneless. The rice was nothing special, full of raisins. Overall it was very average for a Greek place. Now when I got the bill, I was charged "7$" for the bowl of rice, "3$" for the tiny tzatziki and "2.5$" for the pita bread! So my total bill came to 32$ + tip and that's a weekday lunch! Absolutely ridiculous, customers are supposed to pay for the value of the food they receive not the decoration of the restaurant. There are way better Greek restaurants in Ottawa that give you better value for your dollar and I don't mean the fast-food delivery restaurants by that. Won't return.

Lise and Skip Hayden. As both "foodies" and frequent visitors to Greece, where we live 6 to 12 weeks a year, we have finally found the ultimate greek restaurant, Evoo, here in Ottawa. The food is truly authentic and the best ever , with its non-snobbish "touch of class", the atmosphere and decor wonderfully modern and relaxed, the service friendly. Congratulations to the whole team for a wonderful dining experience that we plan to repeat and repeat!
Ottawa se réinvente sur la scène gastronomique. Poor service. I went to EVOOs for lunch the other day, I told the server I needed to leave by 12:45 and was assured that would be fine. They were unable to process credit cards or Interac, this took them 15 minutes or so to figure out and I ended up having to walk 15 miutes back and forth to an ATM to get cash. Both staff were very poor communicators, didn't apolgize, didn't offer my friend or I a coffee or anything in the 15-odd minutes we stood waiting for them to process our cards. Not very impressed. This wasn't their fault but they could have it handled it much more smoothly.

Amazing food. Wow. What a great experience. It was nice to sit down in a Greek restaurant where medzes were not the only option. The sharing plate portions were generous and the food was out of this world. Our only problem was not being able to try everything on the menu. I can't wait to go back. I may have just found my new favorite restaurant.

Great experience at Evoo Greek Kitchen. Amazing food, amazing service. I really enjoyed my time at Evoo Greek Kitchen. I will definitely go back.

-----15 Apr, 2014-----

Go eat there immediately!!. Very knowledgable staff, great atmosphere and even better food! Had an amazing time at Evoo. I will definitely be back soon!

Great addition to Ottawa's restaurant scene. This is a great new addition to the Ottawa restaurant scene. First and foremost, the service was amazing. The staff were so friendly and attentive. It was a Monday night, so it was dead, but I got the impression that their general service standard is up there to begin with. The food was quite good as well. The tomatoes in the Greek salad were a little mushy, but the meats we ordered were very tasty, as were the potatoes. On top of that, they’ve got a great location and cool décor. I’ll be going back for sure.

Fantastic food. Went on April 5th with my partner that happens to be Greek. First time there for both of us and definitely not our last! Service was very attentive (thank you Amanda) food was absolutely delectable. Partner was very impressed with the preparation of food, the tastiness of the lamb, the octopus grilled just right, the dips etc... we both gave it two thumbs up.. Great selection of Greek wines as well..
Make reservations.. we were there till 9:00pm and people were still coming in..
a great find! :-)

Amazing!. We had an amazing experience; amazing food, service and atmosphere. We ordered the spicy feta dip, lamb, pork, fries and Greek salad and everything was above expectations. the owner came over to ask us how everything was and chatted with us for a few minutes which was great. The Greek wine was also delicious! Highly recommended!!

Wow. You better book in advance for this wildly-popular eatery in Little Italy. The services was fantastic, with the waiter even pouring us little glasses of a liquor just to try. The food was very, very good, and we enjoyed trying different Greek wines. The marinated chicken dish was sublime; all the veggie dishes we ordered were , especially the Avocado and Haloumi plate .The portions were generous. We will be back!

Great brunch. Went for brunch with party of 3. Waitress was very attentive. Throughout our meal other servers would stop by to check up on us to, as they walked by asking if everything was okay, filling our glasses. I think even at one point the owner stopped by too to make sure everything was going well. Awesome service. Our dishes were delicious and the servings were very generous. A very nice ambiance, comfortable setting perfect for Sun. brunch. Their brunch menu offered an array of breakfast items, along with you traditional greek items for lunch. We will be returning.

Food was AMAZING!. I ordered the spanakopita which came with a greek salad (I ordered fries on the side as well). My friend ordered the chicken dish. We were both blown away by how delicious the food was. Best greek food we ever had. We highly recommend this place!

Great experience. Went out for drinks with a friend one Saturday night. The atmosphere was small and cozy yet upscale. The bartender was able to recommend drinks based in my taste. The owner welcomed me and friend and would check up on us to make sure everything was to our liking. Along with our drinks we had souvlaki and calamari. both were so incredibly flavourful and juicy! Definitely going back for more! I want to try the lamb! Mmmm

Being a cook myself, I tend to be very picky when it comes to eating out, very critical as well. I don't want pay top dollar at a chain to get a frozen meal cooked for me.

But I digress. I tried Evoo about a month ago, and was blown away by firstly, the service. Greeted with a smile and literally walked out the door on the way out, also with a smile. Secondly and more importantly, the food. Absolutely mouthwatering, every bite. I would honestly eat a full plate of their rice, it's to die for. I got the lamb the first time and it was cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. Then after the meal I was told by the owner it was not their regular product, that they usually get better. So I went back this Valentines Day, and walked into a packed environment and still, the service was impeccable, and I got their lamb again, and oh my god, I didn't think they could top the last time but they did.

So overall, this place is pushing perfection and the prices are very fair considering the sheer quality of the food and the time and care that seems to go onto every dish. So to the owners, and staff of this establishment, I thank you, and I will be back many many times. Keep up the amazing work.

Disappointed. It started with my reservation being moved up a 1/2 hour - a good thing I called to confirm my reservation as I would not have known. The ambiance was nice, our server was very friendly and the prices were fair. I was not impressed with their wine list and they didn't have the one we ordered. Our bread was very stale, when you riped it, it just crumbled on the plate. The Calmari was rubbery. I ordered Mousaka which didn't have much meat in it, was somewhat burnt on the sides and not a lot of sauce therefore kind of dry. My husband took the pork slouvaki which wasn't that tender. All in all I rate this restaurant 6.5 on 10. I still prefer Pilos on Montreal Rd. I probably will not go back to this restaurant.

Evoo has become my favourite go-to restaurant when hunger strikes! After coincidentally discovering the restaurant one night after having only just opened, my friends and I have been hooked! Not only is the food delicious but it is also extremely well priced for both the quantity and quality! If your thinking of a night to get social with friends, the sharing plates are a must! The Greek dips with a nice house wine make catching up with friends easy and fun! The staff is so welcoming and I truly feel at home whenever I stop by! If your tired of the same routine plates, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone! A+

President. OPA! ... Finally! a true Greek restaurant. Very comparable to Greek restaurants in Montreal. EVOO is bringing it! Service is great and the grilled plate is awesome. Moreover, desert called GALAKTOBOURIKO by family home made recipe is the icing on the cake... Looking to go back again.

This place just opened and ive already gone back several times! Not only is the food amazing, but the people and the atmosphere too!! Theres nothing i love more than a nice family owned restaurant that makes you feel like family and serves amazing food. The food is also very fairly priced!

Best new restaurant on Preston. An absolutely wonderful visit, from start to finish. We swung by EVOO on a whim, since it looked so inviting from the outside -- we were not disappointed. The modern, quasi-Scandinavian decor had a fresh, clean look befitting a worthwhile new addition to the Preston restaurant strip. The service was perfect throughout, with servers who seemed genuinely proud and excited to be serving EVOO's delicious fare. When we mentioned that we thought our Cypriot halloumi cheese platter included olives (it does), the server's response was "Oh I'm not sure it does, but I'll bring you a side of olives anyway!". Perfect reply: the customer is always right.

The dishes we ate (pork souflaki and chicken with lemon potatoes) were very reasonably priced, given the generous portion sizes. My chicken, much like the grilled haloumi, had the perfect charcoal aftertaste that you want in a BBQ'ed bird. Not a bit burnt, just ideally crispy. The only downside was that we were so full, we had no room left for a dessert of galaktoboureko, which I have every reason to believe would have been equally as delicious as the fine stuff served down the street at The Nutty Greek Bakery.

Final excellent touch: restaurant owner opening the door for us on the way out and warmly thanking us for visiting. That's class all the way. Keep up the great work, Evoo!

I didn't know what to expect going in, but through and through this place was AWESOME. Ambiance: check! Not too loud, not too quiet, beautiful decor yet still makes you feel nice and cozy inside. Price: check! Reasonable prices for Ottawa and good amount of food to be able to share with everyone. Location: check! On Preston. Service: check! everyone was just so nice and friendly, really made you feel like you were a special guest at a fancy little home. The hosts really knew their stuff. FOOD: check check check! The best part, everything tasted amazing, greek food is by chefs from Greece and the owner's mom. Overall very impressive and unforgettable.

Great new restaurant. We have been to Evoo twice now, once for dinner in the first week it opened, and once for lunch 2 weeks later. Both times we were greeted by friendly staff. The meals we ordered were excellent and we would highly recommend this restaurant. The food is greek, but the real thing! Authentic greek recipes. Best wishes and good luck!

Unpleasant experience, lovely food. Overall the place, food and ambience is lovely. However - we have purposefully made reservation ahead of time, knowing that they are busy at lunch time, and when we got there - there was no table for us. While told to wait at the bar, then we had to eat there since we were going to be late. We did not come to eat at the bar, hence why we made reservation. The staff did not attempt to accomodate us in any way, (for example give something for free, etc). Perhaps in the future, managers would listen to their bar employees who may have foreseen this situation coming. Thanks for not-so-relaxing experience and great food. We will make sure to come again, but hope will be treated differently.

Great calamari. Excellent service. Will be back.

The staff was friendly... I ordered the lamb chops and it was very tender and juicy. Everything is perfect even the fries don't need ketchup... I'll definitely come here again!

Great food & service.. My husband and I went there for supper on Sat. night (Dec.14) and were very impressed. My husband said it was the best calamari that he has had in a long time. The server/host were very friendly and knowledgeable and kept checking to make sure our food/wine was good. I like the atmosphere. Great place for a big meal or just a drink/snack. Definitely planning on returning soon. Congratulations Evoo!

Great place and great food. Totally enjoyed the food, friendly atmosphere, and stylish decor. Top billing to the lamb chops, Greek potatoes and Greek salad. Attractive option of family style eating sharing many choices of Greek specialties. Nice starting touch - delicious hot bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table. Loved the buzz and attentive service.
