Review Fauna Ottawa - Ottawa

Eugene Lee
My wife and I were excited to go to Fauna, and very comfortable while there. On a warm sunny summer Friday evening, we had a window seat, watching all of the pedestrians stroll by, while enjoying our appetizers, main course, and dessert. The portions are a good size, so don't over order. We recommend starting with the half-dozen oysters ($22), followed by the quail dish ($42) and burger dish ($39), wrapping it up with the creme brulee ($12). I'm a big fan of dealers choice - I got the Old Fashioned - and I chose premium selection alcohol ($21) over regular ($18). The real test.. would we go again? absolutely yes. Our next visit will include the 80-day dry-aged rib eye (for 2 people). Highly recommended.

An absolutely superb experience. I took a business associate from out of town here as he is a bit of a foody. Places like this are what is making Ottawa a special place for food. We started with cocktails, that were fantastic and expertly made. I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a margarita like that. We then moved on to starters where we shared the oysters which were very fresh, the accompanying sauces were great. Following that we had the duck wings. This was my first time having duck wings and I've been thinking about them for the days after. Our main was the dry aged rib eye for 2, what incredible value. Probably the most tender steak I've ever enjoyed. The mushrooms that topped the steak were simply stupidly good. All in all, fantastic value and quality - I will be back as often as possible. Service was impeccable. I would have gladly spent double for this level of food. Congrats to the chef and mixologist, they both smashed it.

What a great experience we had at Fauna. Our server was very attentive. The food was very flavourful. We had a ribeye for two. Steak was perfectly cooked, with fried squash and polenta. Crème brûlée is a must try, it was the best one I’ve ever had! Would be definitely be back.

Nice little spot for an intimate/romantic meal, the music is a tad on the loud side though. The restaurant has great ambiance and all of the staff are very friendly (one of the waiters has a 90s era Gavin Rossdale thing going on...points for that!). You definitely have to go with the mindset that you will be paying quite a bit for your meal though and the wine list is, to me anyway, very pricey. The bison tartare was great and extremely fresh but I expected something more flavourful from the elk sirloin. My potatoes weren't cooked through so it might have affected my take on the dish (I didn't let the staff know because I hate being that person, I imagine they would have taken care of it no problem). The flavour combinations for the cornish hen however were great! Tarte tatin for dessert...do it! That ice cream was sooo good!!

Food was great and service was friendly and fast. 🙂 My partner and I enjoyed a nice night out and each dish was very tasty. We will definitely go back, personally loved the elk steak, and have heard good things about the aged beef. Price wise, we had an app each and a main each and split a desert plus 3 drinks total and the bill was ~$240. ***Oysters & venison tartar in pic

Exceptional food and exceptional service. Came here to celebrate a personal milestone and the restaurant definitely delivered to make the occasion special. On the pricier side, but quality of food and atmosphere justify the price. Highly recommend.

Dishes are unique and very tasty in this place. Flavors are blended beautifully. You can never go wrong with food here. The duck dish is a must try!! The ambience and vibes are cool and nice. Dim lights, hanging lamps, and red bricks.. it’s a nice place to hang out with friends or a date. The only downside about this place is the drinks list and options they serve are pretty limited.

Pure class all around! Our server was next level, food was incredible, drinks were delish! Highly recommended! Quite possibly the best dinning experience we've ever had. Next time we're in Ottawa we'll making more than one stop here! Thanks for a great evening fauna!

Had dinner at Fauna last night. Had a bit of a trip up when our online reservations were made for 4 but came into the restaurant for 2. Doug and the other front of house staff deftly took care of this even though the place was completely packed. Once we sat down, we essentially ordered everything on the menu. Sablefish. The steak. The tuna crudo. The pork belly. The duck. Turkey Wing. Endive salad. Arancini. The carpaccio. The food was really really excellent. Perfectly prepared, flavorful, and wonderfully seasoned and plated. Our server Emily was also excellent and did a good job of taking care of us for the whole 3 and a half hours. This place is a gem and has a top 10 spot for me as one of Ottawa's best restaurants. Excellent.

I found this place the Canadas100Best website and I reached out to book an evening with a personalized menu with wine pairing. Not only did I get quick replies from two of their staff, they were extremely accommodating and went over and above to prepare unique dishes that tantalize the senses. The service was delightful and the food was exquisite. Fauna sets the bar really high for Ottawa and I really have to thank them for teaching my pallet a thing or two.

VERY over priced for what you get. The venue is so bad you cannot hear what the server is telling you. The menu is extremely limited. When being served our food after an extremely long wait, with no apology, served us with a boarding house reach... reached across us to serve the person beside us !! Extremely over priced, and we went home HUNGRY !! I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Excellent restaurant sur la rue Bank. L’ambiance est agréable et le service impeccable. La cuisine est créative et les plats savoureux. Nous y retournerons volontiers, aussi pour essayer des cocktails comme leur Bloody Caesar et leur negroni.

Whoever comes to Ottawa has to visit FAUNA. It is a full experience that one will never forget. Perfect atmosphere, magnificent food and just simply superb owner Ken. Whatever you choose from the menu will simply blow your mind. Perfect perfect perfect...

Went there for lunch with a few other people and we all left very satisfied! Service was friendly and quick and the food was delicious! Would love to go back and try the dinner menu. Highly recommend

First time here for lunch - and it was an impressively reasonably priced meal (dinner can be dear). The lunch burger was as good as a burger can be - based on 80-day aged striploin, simply amazing. Fauna continues to be my favorite restaurant.

Fantastic! Delicious food, wine and amazing service! Will definitely be back.

Just finished my wonderful meal tonight!! We had several dishes off the menu and every dish we had was mouth watering and cooked to perfection. We sat at the communal table and it was so much fun! And I can't say enough about how warm and wonderful the staff was, especially our waitress Mel!!:) I am so happy that this fantastic restaurant is only 80 steps from my front door!!! Here's to many years of deserved success!

Came here for my fiancé's birthday. Both loved it. Very attentive. I put a little message when I booked that it was his birthday and we had fizz on arrival. Food was out of this world. Great place.

Came for dinner with friends, had an excellent dinner service is amazing. The only thing is the restaurant is so loud having a conversation is very difficult. You have to be facing the one person you are liatening too, group discussion is very difficult.
Lindsay Janes
This place is incredible!! Stop by for one of Nile's signature creations!! Super delish!!!

Went there last night for my birthday... loved the food was very creative, contemporary and an experience Just couldn't identify the Staff 'no dress code'

Everything, and I mean quite literally everything was amazing there. The food. The service. The atmosphere.... I haven’t had food THAT incredible in years.
Melissa Davies
The food was good as was the service. The menu was limited and from my perspective, overpriced. I've heard that it's good for lunch. I wouldn't go back for dinner.
Andrew McIntosh
Great burgers. Staff was very attentive. You gotta eat here!!

Having been to Fauna twice now I can see why it's considered one of Canada's top 100 restaurants. While the menu is small, each item is clearly well thought out. During our last trip we ordered the tomato salad, soft shell crab, suckling pork and we shared the duck for two. The sauce for the tomato salad was perfect, and the tomato's were incredibly fresh and juicy. It was my first time eating soft shell crab and I was not disappointed. The duck was crispy and done to perfection.<br/><br/>For dessert we split the cheese plate and the chai tiramisu, once again, both were perfect. If you are going to Fauna expecting to get big portions and dry lean meat, I would suggest heading somewhere else. This time we had the duck but last visit we ordered the dry aged steak, and while they were both very rich, I wouldn't consider them "greasy" or "salty" in the slightest.  <br/><br/>Service was some of the best we've had! It's clear that staff are very knowledgable about their menu and our server made some great wine recommendations. Our water glasses were never empty which we all really appreciated. On our first visit my dad got a real kick out of their on-site sommelier, Fauna is now easily one of his favourite restaurants when he visits Ottawa.

Considered part of 2019’s Canada's 100 Best Restaurants list, Fauna turned out to be a major disappointment. I wanted to treat my parents to this restaurant but not only did it miss the mark as one of Canada’s best, I don’t believe it even succeeded in being a good restaurant.<br/><br/>We ordered 3 items: Okonomiyaki ($17), Pork Belly ($19), and 80-Day Dry Aged Rib Eye for Two ($80). The first two were the recommendation of the waitress. <br/><br/>Perhaps a westernized interpretation, the only resemblance this okonomiyaki had to the popular Japanese street food was a soggy cabbage pancake. Gone were the distinctive tang of okonomiyaki sauce and light bonito flakes and its place were a glorified American barbecue sauce with sautéed shiitake mushrooms and pickled ginger. To add insult to injury, this $17 pancake was the size of my palm.<br/><br/>The pork belly was similarly underwhelming. Despite the eye-catching ingredients listed on the menu (Tamarind! Maple! “Sichuan” Pork Rinds!), their flavours were muted at best and absent at worst. Sure, we don’t need to be able to taste and identify every single ingredient in a dish and layers in flavouring is good. However, when all you’re getting is a pan-fried piece of pork belly with a one-dimensional mole sauce you can make at home, you start wondering: 1) where are the things you’re paying $19 for and 2) is this considered false advertising?<br/><br/>The rib eye was nicely plated; however, the steak itself consisted of a-third, if not more, of pure fat. While we understand fat is required for flavour, the amount on that steak was excessive. A third of the original steak could have been rebuilt with those chunks of fat - and that’s not including the amount we swallowed. Unfortunately, because we had shared the dish, we didn't realize just how much there was until we compared plates close to the end of the meal. Furthermore, the steak was so salty that the side dishes were necessary to mask it and even then, my lips stung even hours after. <br/> <br/>The service was subpar, if not mediocre. We arrived to a near empty restaurant, with one other table of two. We were told that there were reservations so we would be seated at a table where the afternoon sun was blinding. They acknowledged how bright it was but made no attempts to make us more comfortable. Furthermore, by the time we left (2 hours after), the restaurant was still empty with only 10 patrons (3 tables) in total, including us. So much for reservations. <br/><br/>The waitress was curt and inattentive as well, refilling only 2 out of 3 glasses of water the entire time. When we raised our concerns about the steak (I'll admit, we were a bit late doing so), she was immediately defensive, saying "It's because it's dry-aged." I don't think dry-aging creates huge chunks of fat, but ok. She came back and told us the chef said, "Our beef is fatty because it's dry-aged. You need the fat for flavour [We agree but, again, that amount was excessive]. Most people like it. If you don't, you don't have to eat it [Moot point since our plates were already cleared away then. It sounded more like she was saying (or implying with her tone) we just didn’t know what good steak tastes like]. Here, you can have a dessert if you’re still hungry. We’ll give it to you.” Although the offer of a free dessert was generous, the way it was delivered made it sound like they thought we were trying to scam them. While our comment may have been ill-timed, we weren’t looking to get anything out of it and didn’t appreciate what her tone implied. We were too bloated from the salt and grease in our meal anyway and as such, we declined the offer. <br/><br/>At present time, I do not believe Fauna is befit the title of one of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants. Based on their food and service, I don’t think they even deserve to be called a good restaurant. The fact that they are considered one of the best does a disservice to the many other great restaurants in Ottawa (and Canada).

Very interesting "people watching" night spent on the Fauna patio. Absolutely loved the Oysters, wish they would do an Oyster special once a week :). Next was the Beetroot Tartare, it was great and we didn't miss the meat at all! The Elk carpaccio was so pretty, and just as tasty. The only thing that was lacking was not being served by Kenzie from Bar Laurel, she's a gem!

Came here for dinner with a friend last night, and got their fried sunchokes, and their Humboldt Squid.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was great, the servers and staff were all very friendly. The service was good, but felt slow, but it just meant more time to properly enjoy the food & company which is intentional.<br/><br/>The sunchokes were cooked perfectly, with the right balance of flavours and ingredients. <br/><br/>The Humboldt Squid was excellent. The texture was not chewy as is often the case when overcooked, it was quite tender and perfectly fried. The edamame puree paired well with it, but the complexity of the Kaffir Chili oil really came through and was a unique flavour combination that left me wanting more.<br/><br/>Overall, Everything was excellent, and I will definitely be returning in the future.

The atmosphere was very rustic and lovely with all the light installations. The host was very polite and welcoming, which was nice. The food was amazing for sure! I had the fried octopus with the slaw and the presentation wasn't great, but the flavours were exceptional! Loved the slaw a lot. Also tried the greens plate, which was very healthy and tasty. I then had the bison bavette, and the sides were delicious! The cod fish was great like the other dishes! Honestly, I was impressed. The dessert wasn't the best I've had though, but the overall dishes I had made up for the entire experience. Definitely recommend to everyone to try Fauna!

Fauna is a nice place... I liked the decor and atmosphere. A bit loud but the restaurant was full, so completely understandable. <br/><br/>Cocktails were original and tasty. The wine list was long, good selection but expensive bottles. Very little options were offered per glass. The appetizers were also excellent. We had the pumpkin curry soup and Bisson carpaccio. The menu looked appetizing however, not too many choices offered for mains. <br/><br/>The main dishes were a disappointment. We had short ribs and the duck breast. Lovely presented plates but conflicted tastes...The ingredients were good quality but everything put together was a mess in our mouths. In addition, the meat was overly salted... <br/><br/>On the other hand, we shared a dessert, a flowerless chocolate cake. It was well presented and delicious. No complaints there! <br/><br/>Overall a nice evening but the most disappointing part was the waitress' ignorance of the food she was serving us. She didn't have a great knowledge the menu or of the ingredients within the dishes. I personally would not go back.

Had a great dinner at the bar as the resto was full. Enjoyed picking just the right wine thanks to knowledgeable staff ! The place was busy and inviting. I liked the decor and everything. I'm going back. This is a gem!

A delightful foodie treasure with attentive and knowledgeable wait staff.<br/><br/>Enjoyed dinner after work here with a couple of dinner companions. Had the tapas-style table d'hôte with wine-pairings. Was an excellent choice, especially the duck, which was done to perfection. <br/><br/>Ambiance vaguely reminiscent of gastown or Grenville Isl. <br/><br/>Well worth planning an evening with good friends in the capable hands of Jon Svazas, Fauna's Chef-Owner.
Michelle
I was so pleased with my experience at Fauna this evening! The ambience was trendy and cozy with a vibe that felt unique at the same time. I was a bit disappointed with their cocktail and wine selection since I am not a gin fan and there were only a handful of reds to choose from, but I ordered a cognac cocktail and absolutely loved it! I followed this with a glass of red, which I found to be a bit steep at $14 for 5oz. Nevertheless, the three courses that I had really wowed me! The food combinations were intriguing and different without being crazy or trying too hard, and melt in your mouth amazing. I can't wait to come back! I have definitely added Fauna to my list of favourite Ottawa restaurants alongside Taylor's and Beckta.

I brought a close friend of mine here to celebrate their first job after graduating. It was really nice, although I think next time we will sit inside. The patio is a bit cramped but that's just dealing with the limited space on Bank Street.<br/><br/>I ordered the pork chop which was probably the best I've had. I rarely order pork because it can be done so poorly so often, but this time it was very flavourful, presented nicely, and very juicy. My friend got the fish which was also fantastic. <br/><br/>The server was very friendly, and would send someone else to the table to help us if she got too busy with the larger groups. Everyone who we interacted with was great to talk to without being too chatty.
LP
Their menu seems to rotate often, but even though it was different from the one shown here it was still equally small and a little bit on the expensive side. I got to try a few of the dishes with friends: soft shell crab, lamb, quail, and crispy duck for two in this order of preference. The crab was amazing and crispy, but still soft and meaty on the inside. The lamb was incredibly tender and juicy with an interesting mix of greens below. The quail came in a good size and was also seasoned well. However despite the good portion size the crispy duck was a total letdown; not only was it not at all crispy, but the entire dish was far too salty even down to the accompanying vegetables and awkward pairing of Korean bibimbap rice. It also wasn't super busy but the service was on the slower side, although the patio ambiance was nice on a warm Saturday evening. Overall it was a pleasant experience for an impromptu dinner party.
Nucleus Solitarius
Great staff, friendly service, and beautiful ambience. Exposed brick walls, large windows overlooking the street...what more could you ask for. Oh, and the food is fantastic. The quail is no small portion and it was made exceptionally well. The soft shell crab was terrific.

Have been twice in the last 6 months and both times the meals were spectacular.  Interesting and unique flavours, great vibe and exceptional service both times.  One of the top places in town for sure.

I try to go to Fauna as often as I can. They never disappoint me. Every plate is designed with interesting flavours and cooked perfectly. It's made to order a few sharing plates. They also have an excellent wine list.

The food was amazing and adventurous to say the least. The plating was also a dream to look at and eat; I love the presentation that goes into food plating. However, our service was exceptionally slow considering the fact that there were only 3 or 4 other tables. The staff was friendly but not too attentive. Our server also misplaced our meals, making for a longer wait time. Overall, the experience was mediocre at best, despite the food and ambience - the service does not make up for it.

I can't say enough good things about Fauna. I've eaten here around 2-3 times a month since opening (easily 40+ visits). I have never eaten anything I haven't loved, and I've tried as much of their inventive menu as I could. <br/><br/>Frog legs? Yes please. Duck heart tartare on V-day? You guys are dark, funny, and I couldn't eat raw heart on a better day. Every crudo, carpaccio, and tartare I've tried are all the things delicious. Each plate is a work of art. Flavours are balanced perfectly. Excellent drink selection.<br/><br/>The staff might as well be my second family. They are all super attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about all things delicious. I've built a rapport with most of the Fauna's team, and can't say enough good things about them. <br/><br/>The main room itself is cozy, open, and industrial. Yes. Those adjectives do not normally go together. But they do at Fauna. Even the bathrooms are gorgeous. The Foundry room downstairs has been a real treat to use, which I have on a few occasions. Service with a private booking was fantastic. Double plus good for the ability to play your own music.<br/><br/>In my opinion, one cannot go far wrong eating at Fauna. Caveat: those who can go wrong have an unrefined palate, prefer quantity over quality, or go to restaurants to simply play the part of a scenster. This sadly defines a growing majority of reviewers using this website.<br/><br/>There are many self-proclaimed "foodies" - I despise that word. I know food because I took the time to educate myself about as many aspects of cuisine as possible. Just because you spend lots of money eating out doesn't make you any more special or unique, or valued to society. <br/><br/>You are not a special snowflake.<br/><br/>Fauna deserves 5 stars for everything they've done. Today, everyone feels they have a right to an opinion, and they do. However, not all opinions hold equivalent value. Oh how I wish I could downvote posts here. <br/><br/>If you know high quality when you taste it, you'll love this place. I've had over 100 individual dishes here, and have not once had an any issues. I know food. Trust me.

Great place for modern fine dining. The portions are small so you can order 2-3 different dishes. The vibe and feel of the restaurant is very cool.

This is a great spot. Atmosphere and decor are hip, classy but not pretentious. Food looks and tastes ahhh-mazing. Drinks are creative and executed perfectly (though ice could be better). I'd eat here weekly if I could.

This restaurant is amazing! I have wanted to go for so long! I went with a friend and we ordered 4 of the starters and a dessert. The service was amazing, we told the server we were going to share everything and they split the soup into two bowls. The restaurant is gorgeous inside and they frequently change their menu. The oysters were great and the golden beet soup was one of the best soups I have had. Will definitely go again.

Came here for dinner with a few friends. Tried three dishes and one dessert as well as all of my friend's dishes and everything was exquisite! I had the soup of the day, the scallop chorizo skewers, and the cod. For dessert I had the pumpkin cheesecake, which came with pecans and vanilla ice cream — perfection. The service and ambiance were also stellar. If anyone has anything negative to say about his place, they're just envious. This place has made it to one of my top picks in Ottawa!

Fauna is my favourite place to eat dinner! The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is wonderful. The drink menu is superb and their food is definitely top quality. Would always recommend! I've been back about 5 times, and it never disappoints.

Review from spring 2015-- kimchi ceaser was actually quite good! My friend& I sat at the bar and had lunch, and both of us were quite pleased with the food. Bartender was good at checking in and giving us space when we were catching up. Liked the decor too and good location!

Split the swordfish ceviche, bison tartate, Humboldt squid and the beef short rib. Price is $$$ but the product is 100% quality. A truly great meal.
Realie
Wild flower margarita cocktail was great.  Tempura eggplant was a massive disappointment, hard as a rock (not sure if they intended to use round little eggplants bec there were not cooked through and barely tempura-like), lacked texture and taste....presentation nice tho.  Pass on the scallop chorizo skewers, also looked good but lacked taste.  Steak and the bison shortrib were excellent.
Catherina Ph
We went here on a Wednesday night for my birthday and it was a nice atmosphere. The place was very busy for a week night around dinner time. <br/>We started off with oysters and fresh caviar then swordfish civiché, duck and bison short ribs. The food was great! The wait time was a little bit long for the two last dishes but it was fine. <br/>These are small plates so you should order 3-4 if you're sharing for two. It is a little pricey but for a night out it's not too bad. They have a great wine selection too! <br/>Definitely check it out if you're a foodie :) <br/>
Costa
Outstanding! Always heard it was one of the best and now can confirm. Details of food are incredible. Taste smell look are all phenomenal. Drinks great. Not one thing at all that was below excellent. Duck, pork, eggplants.

A breathe away from Ottawa's downtown core Fauna is that tucked away gem in a blossoming condo market. I wondered in for drinks after meeting a friend after work. Impressed with the decor and contrasting artistic peaces on the wall. Fauna truly is that break from restaurants in the downtown core that push volume instead of quality.
Tracey Zimmer
I used to live in a condo down the road from Fauna. It became a running joke that it would never open after the "Opening Soon" sign seemed to be up there for close to a year.<br/><br/>When it finally opened (and I could finally score a reservation) I was excited to go. I went with my husband and a friend we had visiting from Toronto. Granted we went on a busy Saturday night, but I found the seating to be a bit tight. It was hard to navigate around the tight tables and you had to move your chair carefully as to not smash into a neighbouring table.<br/><br/>The food, however, was amazing. I had the trout which I don't think this on their current menu. Although people warned about the small portion size, the quality ingredients made me savour each bite and at the end of the meal I felt satisfied and not bursting at the seams.
Mark Warburton
Our food was all top-notch--creative, beautiful, and delicious. I think it has improved since our last visit.. these plates are definitely among the best in Ottawa now. Prices are in keeping with the complexity of the dishes and the quality/cost of the ingredients.
Zoe M
When you go to this restaurant, keep in mind that the dishes are VERY small! The waiter said a meal is typically four dishes. There are not many vegetarian options for this reason because you have to choose multiple dishes. The soup of the day was sooooo good! And the tempeh dish was amazing :) I loved it! Just wish I knew about ordering multiples beforehand because it ends up being quite expensive.

Fauna (which translates to "the animals of a particular region or habitat") focuses on seasonal, local ingredients...small and large plates, fresh seafood & proteins and beautifully styled (and flavoured!) food pairings.
Laura.mg.franzini
Totally Amazing food. Veal Croquette. Soft shell crab. Asian greens. Olive plate. Always enough food. Great service. Awesome wine pairing. Really recommend.

Fauna Food & Bar - Tasty, But Scarce<br/><br/>A few weeks ago I had lunch at Fauna Food & Bar. I had the Braised Beef Sandwich which was topped with a fried egg with a side of the yummiest Leek Soup I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The flavours were wonderful, however the portions were found wanting. I still felt hungry and my fellow patrons felt the same. But the decore has an industrial chic motif which is warm yet trendy. I would give Fauna another try if they promise to fill my belly.

Fabulous Business Dinner. As a consultant I wanted to impress my clients so I invited them out for a working dinner at my favourite restaurant. They didn't disappoint. We had a nice private dinner in their downstairs room. The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. In particular the tuna and the steak were the very best. Days after I am still getting compliments for having chosen that restaurant.

Pleasant place, but too $$$.. I've gone with a few friends and my boyfriend. The atmosphere was quite pleasant in a matter of ambience and the front house staff were very pleasant from the hostess to server. Our server was absolutely wonderful and accommodate very well to all the various question I had asked. He allowed me to taste to figure out which white wines to suit my taste palate and scotch for my boyfriend to try (a small sample for tasting). <br/><br/>I ordered the peppers starter and ahi tuna. The presentation was beautiful. I also had two glasses of Riesling. My boyfriend ordered the 8-10 oz. steak (I can't remember) with mashed potatoes and vegetables. <br/><br/>Majority of the experience was pleasant, although for the portions and price, it didn't seem quite to fit to our liking. The drink menu had alot of choices, but a bit overwhelming.<br/><br/>I respect the integrity and beautiful presentation in the food, but for my boyfriend and I, it was overpriced for so little. We left feeling a bit unsatisfied and still a bit hungry. Despite the few flaws, we hope for the best!

Poor Service & Food. Wow am I sick of these restaurants in Ottawa trying to be sophisticated and trendy! <br/><br/>I never knew lemon and lime syrup belonged with thick-cut crudo scallops!<br/><br/>Service was very slow, pretentious and the room looked like a big wall of grey paint!<br/><br/>Whoever put together the consignment-only wine list , truly must think people in Ottawa are ignorant and like to be ripped off!<br/><br/>Way to go Ottawa! Another example of garbage on a plate and everybody thinking it's great!

Love it!. They deserve all the accolades. Super solid food, great service, nice atmosphere. Every time I've been, the food is consistently excellent. Nice job, Fauna.

Excellent service and food. Incredible food, and Sara made excellent wine recommendations! Will go back next time I'm in Ottawa!

Great Combination of Food and Sexiness. I went there last Friday and managed to get a seat at the bar at around 10:30 and was able to sample both the regular and late night menus as well as an array of their specialty cocktails... more than I had originally planned. Great time with friendly bartenders. I spent a few more dollars than I had planned but that was purely my choice and I am pretty sure I will do it again. Thanks Fauna I am glad I dropped by.

Service was good and ambiance was nice, but food was disappointing... I wanted to love it, but sadly didn't. Food was unidimensional and WAY too salty! Next time, go there for drinks and make sure you have a reservations at Whalesbone!
Jbharvey
Not that impressed.. After reading and hearing such great reviews, I was expecting a lot. On the positive side, the setting is great, hip style, the service was excellent, and food presentation was impressive. The big negative, however, was taste. We had the octopus, which was so tough that it almost could not be cut with a knife. The trout was good, but served on a dry, tasteless loaf of risotto. The gnocchi was very bland. The scallops were decent, despite the fact that there were only 3 very small scallops served. Also, the venison tartar had too much of a glue like texture. We will likely not go back. Maybe.

Carpaccio to die for.... Melt in your mouth, roll your eyes in delight carpaccio. I believe it was bison at the time, went for a friend's birthday celebration a few months ago. Mixed drinks were delicious, our other plates were also tasty, but I still remember that carpaccio. Also that the gentleman who served us was friendly and helpful, and very descriptive - even though the place can get a bit noisy and crowded as it gets filled with diners.
Food Baby
The main event was. Steak. What a fantastic decadent steak. Black truffle oil and Hollandaise sauce made for a succulent juicy mouthwatering steak. At 65$ the sharing plate didn't last long. There where a few good things I tried but there was some of the best I have tasted in Ottawa. So is this place the cats ass? Meow meow.
Kikicontente
Fawning over Fauna. On an extremely cold Thursday night in February, I went to Fauna for the first time. Attentive staff (special thanks to Eric behind the bar), great food and flavour combinations (potato/leek soup, green curry, and sea bass all done to perfection), great wine recommendations, and one of the best 'beignet' desserts I've ever had. The owner even brought out a space heater for my friend when she complained of being cold. Will definitely go again.

Good for some, disappointed for us!. Birthday reservation made weeks prior, no mention of it, nor a better table!<br/>"Ambiance ", pretty good, close from other tables, which makes it easy to talk with others!<br/>"Decor", very nice, cosy, well done!<br/>"Food", fletan fish extremely salty! And I'm a "salty" guy! And that as nothing to do with personnel taste, when I say way too salty, it was. Same with the scallops, a bit too salty with too much butter!!! Over cooked, though not by much! Personnel taste yes! Pricy!!! We will not recommend!

Cocktails!. I've been to this place for lunch, dinner, and just drinks, and I have to say that these guys are really hitting the ball out of the park! The food is amazing, the service is great, Cristin Julian Sara and the rest of the bar team are amazing people and their cocktail list is filled with drinks that leave me salivating. I highly recommend this spot for any occasion

Amazing food!!!. Fantastic restaurant! That was the best meal we have had in a long time, everything was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and creative. The kitchen certainly knows what they are doing!! My friend has some dietary restrictions and this was no problem for the kitchen, thankfully. Our server was knowledgeable and made some great cocktail recommendations. We will be back for sure! Thank you Fauna keep up the great work!

Delish!!!. We traveled from BC to experience Fauna and were so pleased! Service was great, and the food was AMAZING!!! we will be back for sure! The kitchen was so accommodating to our dietary restrictions and having travelled all over the world we can honestly say the food was beyond our expectations!! Thank you Fauna!

Just OK. We went on the recommendation of friends. Unfortunately, our experience did not match up to their high praise and it's unlikely we will return. As others have mentioned, this restaurant is very noisy. The service was good, but not any better than many other restaurants in Ottawa. The food, while nicely plated and largely well-prepared, was very "one-note" - no texture contrasts, no balance, no umami - and under seasoned. When we ordered the arancini, the waitress said we would not be disappointed. Sadly, her enthusiasm was misplaced. It was one large ball that had an unappetizing sheen of grease. The accompaniments were ordinary and did nothing to elevate this dish into something special (or even appetizing). The tuna needed more acid to brighten it up. The endive salad was OK, nothing special. The short rib was nicely cooked and tender, but the accompaniments .... meh! For foodies, I think there are much better options in Ottawa.

Most satisfied !. Charming knowledgeable servers, delicious plates (loved the bison carpaccio), excellent wine list. What's not to like?

Our new favorite place. The music, our waitress (Whitney), the drinks, and especially the food all lived up to our expectations! <br/><br/>My favorite dish of the night was the arancini (sp)? I did, however, order the quail which was a little under done, but that didn't bother me as it was a minimal slip up compared to everything else we ordered. <br/><br/>Thanks guys, can't wait to come back!

Great service, great drinks, disappointing food. Short story: Food that did not live up to its price tag or menu description. Very inconsistent execution for the price.<br/><br/>I went to fauna for a private event, hosted in the basement room. The atmosphere was great, service was great and I sampled a couple cocktails which were excellent. Their wine selection is very Ontario-heavy, but that's really a critique of the wine industry in Ontario. Otherwise, there are some decent wines, though for a restaurant with a sommelier, the selection was pretty disappointing. The food sounded so good, but it was so mediocre. <br/><br/>I shared the Tuna Tataki, the Trout and the Green Curry. The curry was good, but boring. Easily better curries at other restaurants for less than half the price. The tuna tataki was the great disappointment. It was accompanied by several garnishes/sauces on the plate: a weird cheesy-spicy dust which did nothing for texture and little for taste; and a truly gross ginger sauce which tasted like VH plum sauce with ginger in it. The whole dish was over-sweet with no acid - the tuna, which was well-cooked, would have greatly benefited from a sqeeze of lemon, some rice vinegar...something! The trout was amazing, truly incredible. But, my friend ordered the same thing and got a piece of trout about an inch thicker and 2 inches longer. It appeared that I got a poorly trimmed tail-end filet, a disappointing inconsistency in the only dish that may have lived up to its price tag. The rest of the stuff on that plate was forgettable - in fact, I don't remember what it was.<br/><br/>They haven't been open for long, so maybe the kitchen is just working itself out, but they need to take about $5 off the price of everything on the menu or rethink portion sizes to compete with small plate restaurants like Play and Town. In my experience, those restaurants have a good balance of price : size. It's too bad, I was looking forward to Fauna, it is a good addition to the neighbourhood, but I won't be going back anytime soon. If the food had been spectacular, it might be one of those "once every 6 months" kind of restaurants, but there are too many places that serve the same food, but better.

Cancelled reservation :(. I was so excited to try this new restaurant, so I booked a reservation for friday and due to system failure reasons next thing I know my reservation is a NO-GO. So disappointed,,,

Best Restaurant in Ottawa. The atmosphere was to absolute perfection as the cozy dim lit venue was perfect for an intimate evening. The food was the best I've had since being in Ottawa, nothing else compares. They have selected the perfect compliments of ingredients in every dish even down to the soup, my god! Even reasonably priced!

Great food! Bao bun was awesome. Cocktails were great too!

Dinner for 8. Attractive decor, great service and helpful suggestions to patrons. Lively atmosphere, delicious small plates, including desserts. Substantial wine list. We all enjoyed our choices. The female server offered friendly, efficient, accurate service. Seating was comfortable --- it was a fun evening. Thanks, Fauna management!

Quality service. Fantastic service! Very accomodating for food allergies and server was exceptionally friendly. Food was average quality for this sort of establishment, nothing spectacular that stood out, but definitely well-prepared, well-presented and hip options.

So happy with Fauna. So happy that there is a place like this in Ottawa. It's definitely a vibrant atmosphere that doesn't compromise when it comes to the food or service. Everything was well thought out in this restaurant which reminded me of restaurants on King West in Toronto. Yes it's a little loud but sometimes that helps create an intimacy in a restaurant and makes it warm, sometimes that's what you need, we loved it! I don't want to go to a restaurant where I need to whisper. My husband and I shared the peppers, carpaccio and arancini to start and the ribs and curry as our mains, all were shared. We also had a bottle of Bordeaux that paired nicely. ended with the flourless cake. Loved every bite and service was spot on even decanting our wine which to be honest I am surprised most restaurants don't do. Absolutely, looking forward to our next trip back.

Incredible all around!. Incredible food, incredible service, and incredible atmosphere! Eight of us, four couples, just tried Fauna for the first time and we all loved it and are looking forward to going back! This is one of the best restaurants in the city!

Love the food, everything there is classy. It is such an experience to eat there, different tastes, textires a real feast to the eyes and palate

Exquisite tastes and artistic talent!. I have dined at Fauna for both lunch and dinner, alone, as a couple and with a large group. Each time Fauna has stepped up and served exquisitely prepared and artfully presented food. The service was friendly, refined, discreet and very gracious. The food was delicious surprising your palate with unexpected tastes and textures. This is food to be savoured and eaten deliberately and slowly. The ambiance was humming and indicative of excitement and expectation. A perfect place for any kind of celebration. Excited diners shared their comments about their favourite dishes both on my way in and on my way out as people lined up waiting to be seated. One of my dinner companions celebrating her 78th birthday commented excitedly that she had just dined in the "hippest" restaurant in Ottawa. The servers happily shared their knowledge of the wine choices, the menu items and their preparation and were quick to offer suggestions and patient answering questions. They made you feel like the only diners in the room. Don't hesitate to give Fauna a try. You will be more than pleased with the experience.

You might wanna pre-eat before you dine here.. My wife and I were very excited to try out this new restaurant at first since the reviews were so positive, but at the end of our meal we were both upset and hungry. <br/><br/>The biggest disappointment was the truffle raviolo. A 25 dollar dish that served one piece of raviolo is a rip off any way you slice it. I work in the restaurant industry and understand that truffles is a very high end food product, but I fail to see why we were only giving one piece of pasta. <br/><br/>Tuna tataki, trendy and boring dish, was not seared but overcooked, had more garnishes on the plate than the tuna itself.<br/><br/>Sadly, this restaurant, like many restaurants in Ottawa, focused on impressing "foodies" with their bells and whistles, but failed to achieve the most important part, which is feeding their customers. If you spend over 100 dollas on food for two people, and had to go order pizza after your meal so you're not starving, then ladies and gentlemen of Fauna, you're not feeding your customers.

Please let us know when you think you've fixed the restaurant's noise problem. I'd love to try Fauna - the food and service sound very attractive - but I hate loud noisy restaurants where I must yell and lip-read in an effort of holding a conversation with my friend. Several of the reviews posted here mention the noise level.<br/><br/>Since the owner/manager says they're going to install noise-dampening baffles in an attempt to reduce the din in Fauna, I'd appreciate it if they would post something on Urbanspoon when they think they've got the noise problem licked.<br/><br/>Then I'll happily come to try out the place.

Good food but noisy. I went for dinner to Fauna with two friends. While the food was quite good - some dishes outstanding, and some a little less so (the dessert was too sickly sweet for my tastes) - I would not go back because it was so noisy we could not talk. We found ourselves yelling across the table at each other, having to repeat sentences over and over again, which is not my idea of a relaxing evening with friends. The acoustics in the restaurant are dreadful. The other diners were not being excessively loud; they were just talking normally, but the sound in the room was magnified. Also, a bilingual menu would be appreciated. This is not out of any political correctness, but the observation that my francophone friends were in fact struggling to understand the menu ,even though they are fluent in English. People do have trouble understanding highly specialized or rare terms in a second language. I mean, even a fluently bilingual person may not know what "squid ink" is!

Friday lunch with friends. Finally went to fauna for lunch with friends yesterday. We sat at the back which enabled us to talk and also enjoy the ambiance of the whole restaurant. The lunch menu is nearly as good as the dinner menu! Delicious! I had the risotto which was perfection in a hot bowl: well portioned, exquisite taste and with lots of mushrooms. My friends had the beet salad, and quiche lunch plate both of which they couldn't think of any way to improve! We shared the chocolate and milk for desert. Wow. Satisfying without feeling over indulged. Overall, the menu choices was varied, portion sizes just right, priced appropriately and the staff friendly. We had a wonderful meal in a beautifully restored space. Thank you... We will be back.

Best place to take out of town foodie (snobs). I had the crew in from DC (Georgetown) and the hipster elements have pretty high standards and find Ottawa a little provincial ... a little pedestrian by comparison but they loved Fauna and had a great night and definitely would come back. I've been several other times and its be great each and wowed my less pretentious friends from Toronto (High Park). Good value for the money - but remember good food costs good money!

Disappoint experience at Fauna. I heard about this place online through restaurant reviews and had fairly high expectations when we headed there on Saturday night after the Ottawa Food and Wine show. My boyfriend and I ordered 5 dishes between the two of us: soup of the day, tuna tataki, quail, green curry and pork belly. The only thing i really enjoyed having was the soup but I felt like the portions were really small for the price especially for the mains. The vegetables were poorly done with several of them (pork belly especially, it was quite bland) Even thought we left still hungry, we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the rest of that dish. The green curry had too much basil, and the tofu that was in it seemed like it was drenched in cooking wine/alcohol. Our friends had 4 dishes between the two of them (the soup, duck, green curry and pork belly) I had a taste of the duck and the veggies that went that dish, and that was the best dish I tasted all night. Normally I love having dessert but based on the disappointing mains, we decided to head elsewhere/home instead.

Great spot. Stopped in with friends during the week for a bite to eat. Service was really friendly and the food was great - small menu but everything we had was tasty. Our table loved the tuna crudo and Arancini (?). I'll be back next time I'm in town.

Hoping it will settle into a good place. We went to Fauna when they first opened. So hoping/wishing it would be a great place right in our neighbourhood. Wanted to love it. Pretty disappointing - appreciate inventive food but the dishes were more weird than tasty. I see recent posts are positive so perhaps they have already revamped the menu. Hoping it will settle into a great neighbourhood spot.

It was OK. To be fair the service was very good, I want to point that out. This is a new place and a lot of hype is surrounding it right now, but I have to be honest I was disapointed. the food wasn't particularly that good, and I'm a bit confused about some of the menu 'options'. They didn't make much sense.<br/><br/>The bad points that really stood out, the wine was terribly overpriced.<br/>A small steak dish of almost 20 dollars should not be a measily 'flank cut'.<br/><br/>I expected more, and I got very mediocre. I give this place a 3 out of 5.

Best new restaurant. I've been to Fauna 3 times since it opened and I haven't had a bad experience yet. The food is absolutely delicious. The space is fun and modern without being pretentious. The steak dish is killer. Best perp goes I've ever had. I've tried the swordfish and the black cod as well and it seems like they sure know how to cook a piece of fish. I would highly recommend Fauna to anyone.

We recently had dinner at Fauna and I would have to say it was phenomenal. The atmosphere, the service and the food and drink were all wonderful. That kimchi ceaser was delicious and so was the gin cocktail that our server recommended. We really enjoyed the duck and the tuna crudo and I think the steak was both mine and<br/>my boyfriend's favorite dish. I also sampled a dessert my friend ordered and it too was a hit. Thanks Fauna for a great evening we will definitely be back!

I came in a couple weeks ago to have lunch with a friend. And loved the food. Service was fast, food was delicious an well seasoned. So i boasted about the place, to all my friends. So I decided to go with a couple of friends for the dinner service. And it did not live up to any of our expectations. Dinner service was slow, drinks took far too long, food was under seasoned, portions were minuscule, and ridiculously over priced, the music was deafening. Definitely not worth the hour wait, for our first plate. Not impressed at all.

Great atmosphere - highs and lows for food. Living just around the corner, I highly anticipated the opening of Fauna and finally got to try it out. I love the local concept of the restaurant. The decor and atmosphere was great and with a reservation we were seated promptly by a friendly hostess (kudos for the great online reservation and reminder system). The cocktails and the appetizers were wonderful - the Elk carpaccio is an absolute must try. Although the plates were presented beautifully, our 'mains' left us a little disappointed. The pork belly was overlooked to the point that we could not chew through it (I've had some crispy pork belly in the past, but this just didn’t work). The quail was tasty, but only two of the four pieces were edible with the small wing like pieces (which already have very little meat) seeming overcooked making them even more meatless. Overall, some great highs and some lows during our first visit. Given the highlights during our visit, I will likely give it another try in due time.

Fauna Restaurant on Bank - My Review. I went to fauna about a month ago. I was drawn in by the longtime mystery of what it was to become. For months, it sat in the space with brown paper covering the windows. What was revealed was nothing short of amazing! <br/><br/>I will give a short summary here, but I also wrote a blog post about it here: tobakiss.ca/fauna-fauna<br/><br/>Make sure to get reservations! You will need it unless you want to sit at the bar. They are a locally sourced company and that reasonated very well with me. Service was excellent. The food was done tapas style and I would coin the type of food that they serve to be Asian-fusion tapas dishes. You will certainly have to order more than one. I loved the decor too. Reminded me of a restaurant that belonged on King West in Toronto.

Fauna - good service, scarce food, very expensive. We had a chance to eat at Fauna this Sunday night, the ambiance was great, even loud, the food good, but had to eat popcorn on our back at home, when me and my wife spent 150 $ on food & wine - will not go back
Tuddy23
Too expensive for a tiny bit of food, and not luxurious enough to deserve it. Ridiculously hipster and pretentious, without offering the essentials : good food, pleasant atmosphere, and welcoming staff.
Kimby
This place is excellent. Great food, the best drinks ever!

Inventive and worth the wait. We live right round the corner, so we have been watching Fauna come to fruition over the last few years and it is a welcome addition to the area.<br/>Food amazing - soup, elk carpaccio (could have eaten a mountain of that!), sable fish and the duck breast - everything was both interesting (especially the kimichi spatzle) and excellent. <br/>Drinks - had a lovely special cocktail - can't remember all of the ingredients but it was gin based and there was vanilla in there, great balance between sweet and sour. The wine we had was super interesting - an excellent suggestion from the waiter.<br/>The restaurant itself is very beautiful but also full of hard surfaces and thusly I spent most of the night yelling at my dining companion just to be heard. Why is this always the case at every new restaurant? I'm all for a lively atmosphere, but it would nice if restaurants took this into consideration when they are designing the space. Fauna is not the worst offender we have been to, but it was still an issue. <br/>The one drag of the evening was having to wait 30 minutes for a table when we had a reservation. We were eventually seated at the bar to wait, but it was just a bit of a bummer way to start the evening. Once seated however, everything from service to food was really fantastic. I would certainly return.
Smsimoneau
Overpriced, but good food and service. Yet another small plate restaurant... I'm starting to think that small plates is simply a way to charge more for dinner. Most plates are around $18 and they recommend 2 to 4 per person. That would be almost $80 for dinner if you had 4 plates. Ridiculous. I had two plates and was still hungry. The food is good and the service is great. Unfortunately, it's really too expensive for what it is. I do not think I'll be returning. Also, all the desserts have tree nuts. You'd think they would have at least one dessert that was nut-free.
Bella
Amazing. The food was great -but don't bother with the heirloom tomato salad, it was meh- and the service was exceptional. I've forgotten our server's name but she had long blond hair and was delightful and attentive. The elk carpaccio was amazing, as was everything else -aside from the aforementioned heirloom tomato salad. Best new restaurant in agesz

Dinner for my moms birthday. Went to Fauna's for my moms birthday. The food was really amazing but the service was horrible. We waited over an hour for our food and our server only checked on us once. I saw her check on other tables at least 6 times. Which is really diapointing because it is a place I would have liked to go back to. But I will stick to other places such as Allium which has amazing service and food

Noisy atmosphere...RESOLVE COMING SOON!. My name is Andre Reeves (Architect at Linebox Studio) and the designer of Fauna. There has been some comments about the noise levels. I wanted to let everyone know that this is not a surprise. There has always been an acoustic control design (several grey fabric sound sink panels in the ceiling) but due to costs associated with the landlord the sound panels went on hold until the owner could afford them. BUT, now that the restaurant is open and money is coming in the owner has ordered the sound baffles and will install as soon as they come in. (hope to have them on site in a few weeks) We trust this will greatly add to your dinning experience and to the quality of space in general. I will chime back in when they are installed Thanks for your patience's!

Great night out in Ottawa. Visited last night and had an amazing time. Pork belly was increadible!!! Service was fantastic, friendly and refreshingly genuine. Will be back very soon.

Small plates big flavour! Delicious! Good service. Good atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Great food, overly noisy atmosphere.... Why does good food need to be served along with a huge portion of noise? My friend and I had excellent dinners at Fauna recently with prompt and friendly service, but we were nearly yelling at each other in order to have a conversation. Because of this, I will never be able to convince my husband to eat here which is a pity. There are lots of reasons why the place was noisy: very busy, hard surfaces, and cranked up music. At least they could turn down the music....Wish I could go back.....

Best new restaurant in Ottawa! The service, ambiance and food are unreal!

Awesome!. We went to Fauna during their soft opening. And everything was fantastic! <br/><br/>Unique atmosphere, delicious food and creative cocktails. The service is top-notch too! They have a great team and I will definitely make this one of my regular spots :-)

Reservation screw up!. Made a booking on-line on Wednesday for a table for 4 for 7:30pm on Saturday. We were going out with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Received a confirmation email and a reminder the day before. At 4pm on the day of the reservation they called to say that they could not accommodate our booking and that we were out of luck. <br/><br/>My advice: do not reserve on-line! Call to make a reservation and then call again to confirm.

Worth the Wait. My family and I dined here a few weeks ago and we were really impressed! We had been waiting to try this restaurant forever and let me tell you it was worth the wait. We sampled almost all of the dishes and they were all wonderful. Some favourites: watermelon salad, tuna sashimi, mushroom inari and the tempura skewer. The service was top notch and the decor was stunning as well. We will definitely be back soon and I am recommending this new hot spot to all my friends!

Great food and wonderful service. We ordered a variety of dishes, the exact names escape us (tuna, mushroom inani, tomato, duck, tempura) and desserts...everything was delicious! Highly recommend Fauna! The sommelier was great and the servers were fabulous!

Fauna: Food + Bar. At long last, the much anticipated opening of Fauna was last night. What a fantastic experience. Definitely will be on the Best of Ottawa list in no time. Great vibe - from the decor, bar, art, music and overall feel. Great service. Great bar. The bar is a central feature. Great selection of beer. And what's more, the bar tender is a mixology genius. You tell her your tastes and she'll tailor a drink that is sure to please. And finally, the kitchen ... You can see in to the kitchen to see a well run, smooth, efficient operation under the direction of Chef John Svazas. The food - exceptional. A flavour for every palate. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom and duck dishes. That said, I wanted to try everything on the menu and will be sure visit again ... really soon!

For months upon months, a sign read, “coming very slowly”. And every time I passed by it, I always wondered what this spot was going to become. The curiosity behind the brown papered windows was finally revealed. fauna is Ottawa’s newest and trendiest restaurant that recently opened near the corner of Bank and Gladstone. Being from Toronto, this restaurant has the vibe and feel of being somewhere along King West.
Bake And Be Merry
There’s a new kid in town and his name is Fauna . Located at Bank and Frank in the Village ( aka Centretown ), this seasonal resto is a long time coming! With a planned opening of last January which was put on hold due to an unfortunate water leak which caused some damage and with never ending legal disputes, it is now finally on track and open for business. We went last Thursday for a tri-fecta birthday celebration with a friend of ours. Since it was her actual birthday, she got to pick the place. We couldn’t believe how after only one week of being open, how seamless service was. Our waitress, beautiful girl but didn’t catch her name, was knowledgeable about the whole menu including the wine and drink list. When it came to dessert wines, my husband had ordered the Grenache/Syrah blend which wasn’t served by the glass anyone, so the wine director, Alex, came over to help him find something similar. Which worked out excellently. Below are some

Man oh man brains are GOOD. Especially wrapped in crispy perfectly cooked bacon. I’m gonna be honest, you still have a bit of that organ taste but it’s subtle. Rich, smooth and chewy brains and glands with crispy bacon is a beautiful combination. Perfectly complimented by the richest and smoothest mashed potatoes on the planet. I’m pretty sure there’s a stick of butter on each plate but dayum it tastes good. So good in fact that my dining companion couldn’t stop eating off my plate. (I slowly move my plate further and further away until he can no longer reach over – ha!) The mash has this shitake mushroom partner in crime sauce that’s just absolutely delicious as well – that umami and salt needed to cut the richness of the potatoes. Amazing dish and hands down the best of the night.
