Review Louis' Restaurant & Pizzeria - Ottawa

David St-Cyr
One of the best pizza we ever had! They kept the look and feel of this authentic 60’s pizzeria filled with great stories about the relationship between the owners (the uncle who was the original owner and now his niece) and the community. And if your wondering about the food, the place was packed on a Tuesday night, and take-out orders kept going out. Definitely a site to see if you are visiting from out of town!

Outstanding pizza and people. The dough is second to none, despite what two reviews described as salty and undercooked? Must be the competition writing this garbage. Sauce, cheese is quality, dessert pies, breakfasts just WOW. Try the pizza kits as well to take home and cook in your own oven. They are AMAZING and budget friendly. We bought 3 of them, and they were a big hit over the weekend. My favorite pizza in Ottawa or anywhere for that matter.

The best pizza you’ll ever eat. It’s the crust - so buttery and delicious that I could just eat it plain! Lots of amazing topping options and lots of other great foods like their poutine, as well. Staff always go above and beyond! Truly the sweetest people ever. Jo even made a crust display for my son whose obsessed with “ABC” when we last were there!

Absolutely the best pizza joint in Ottawa. 1. Their pizzas are delicious, especially the smoked meat pizza (in the picture. They put the meat INSIDE the cheese which makes the pizza a whole lot tastier. 2. Their staff is the best. Very welcoming, always smiling, always caring. They’re always trying to talk and build rapport. Never are they in the “get served and leave” mood. 3. Their overall restaurant vibe is cute. A fun place to just sit and enjoy their wonderful pizza. 10/10 would recommend.

We dropped by Louis Pizza for dinner! Amazing and delicious food. Check the photos how they welcome their new clients ! Thanks to everyone for making our dinner experience great!

I walked all the way here from Byward Market just for the coconut cream pie...and it was totally worth the effort. The pie was delicious and paired very well with a hot coffee. Service was fast and friendly. I would highly recommend Louis Pizza. I am looking forward to returning to try their pizza (and another slice of pie 😇).

Tried the coconut pie amazing. Nothing like homemade foods. The pizza reminded me of my childhood. Highly recommend and staff super friendly. A lovely experience ☺️

Love a good thick crusted cheesy pizza. This is one of my favorite places to get em! Love the variety on the menu too. Really enjoyed the fish and chips 🐟

Great pizza. The kids noticed the difference between Louis’ and other pizzerias after the first bite. The staff were very friendly and service was fast.

Great place. Extremely good pizza. Service was awesome. One plate delivered to us was dirty but a few minutes later, the server took it away before we had to complain. Decor is straight outta the 70’s but that's the charm of this place. Very busy but the service was not slow. Most people order without a menu so clearly a lot of repeat customers. Don't have the breaded veal cutlet; it wasn't bad, but it wouldn't be the best thing on the menu.

Went there for a friends bday and i found the pizza to be worse the frozen grocery store pizza.

Not worth the price, not worth eating even free....

I've tried many of the Italian dishes and they are fairly poor versions. It seems the only food they are good at making is pizzas. What I like about pizza is they don't mince the topping. I love big chunks of veggies like mushrooms or green peppers because it keeps the flavors separate and gives a delicious blend of tastes in your mouth, unlike some restaurants that mince everything together and it's just one flavor.

One of the BEST pizza places in the city, I regret not coming here earlier. I'm not usually a fan of thick crust, but their crust is to die-for. The pizza is extra cheesy, they are generous with the toppings, and it's all around goodness. I think I would only order the pizza from here though - the pies are beautiful, but I found the coconut cream pie filling didn't have a soft custard texture that I'm used to. It was mediocre, and so were the milkshakes. But the pizza is to die-for. Also, I love the atmosphere - it's like you've stepped back in time to the 80's. In a good way though. If it's your birthday, they play a super old sounding birthday anthem over the speakers and the staff present you with a candle on top of a ball of dough. Super super cute & conveniently close by to the bowling alley so you can bowl off the calories after=)

Alright upon placing an order at the famous Louis' , the women on the phone immediately is barking at me "We don't deliver!!".. INVITING!
I was told my Louis special would be ready in 15-20 minutes, later arriving 15 minutes prior to my phone order the cashier lady who was flirting with a seemingly regular customer just stares at me after I enter for a few minutes and says ignorantly, "can I help you ?".
Only to receive one of the soggiest pizzas I've ever paid money for.
Dominos service and price are better by leaps and bounds , clearly this place has been in business too long and are slacking on quality control! The girl running the cash seemed high on some kind of stimulant also.. but hey, that's vanier I guess haha

Best pizza i have ever had. The place looks like a VERY old dinner that was never updated but dont let that stop you, the food is incredible. Service was great, food arrived quickly and very warm/fresh.
Family owned they make sure you are happy with everything. We loved it

We had breakfast and it only decent , nothing on the table except for salt and pepper. The place an up date, cleanliness not to sure. Service not to good.

Everyone in the city talks about this place being so good. So of course, being a foodie - I needed to try it. Pizza might not be the most incredible meal. But when made RIGHT, pizza is everything. And this pizza was terrible.

I tried it twice, just to give them the benefit of the doubt - and nope. Still terrible!

Best pizza in town. A little on the greasy side but if you like that then place is for you. Omg worthy crust! Service is great and it seems like they really care. Wish they did delivery but oh well.

Great food terrible service (today). The pizza was beyond good seriously best in Ottawa. I've gone here as a date restaurant before and it's always been super good never had a single problem with service. Great breakfast, great everything pretty much. Today however, I don't know what went wrong but my friends and I had the worst server. She talked to us like we were home invaders and made us feel really unwelcome. Although we tried to be friendly back we were greeted with rude and sarcastic quips among other comments. Seriously this lady talked to us like we were garbage. I have never tipped 0 percent in my life but today I did and I've worked as a server before.

Absolutely love this place. They go out of their way to make new customers feel welcome. And that's how they earn so much repeat business. Oh and also because the pizza is a-ma-zing!!

This place has good pizza and great environment! I went today and ordered a large meat lover with some friends. We also got a large poutine. The pizza was very thick crust and filled with toppings. It was a very filling meal albeit on the salty side. The poutine had somewhat of a peculiar taste but was pleasant nonetheless. The restaurant itself was a little small, but I cannot complain. Our drinks were brought out after our poutine which is my only complaint since we were quite thirsty. Great service, good food.

Food is amazing and tasty.

Best Pizza in Ottawa. The pizza here is my favourite in Ottawa. The crust is what makes it, but they have pretty gosh darned good pepperoni too. If you're into the classic pizzeria type pizza, this is the best pizza ever. I LOVE the way the place looks, like it hasn't been renovated since 1973. It brings me a very pleasant sense of nostalgia. The service is super friendly. They even write nice things out in ketchup for you on the pizza plate when they serve it to you. Their pizza is amazing, their salad is pretty good, their pies are exquisite. Also, the hallway you walk through to get into and out of the restaurant includes arcade games like the Love Doctor. So, if you want a blast from the past and you love pizza, this is the place to go. I hope it doesn't change. Edit: I previously said something about the soup not being so great on account of it being out of a can, but have since been told that the soup is in fact homemade; you just have to order the soup of the day, otherwise you'll get canned soup. I can't wait to try the homemade soup at Louis'! I bet it's delicious.

Classic. I used to live just across the street, so Louis had a big part to play in my life at that time. Pizza is delicious and has it's own flare. It is distinct in it' flavour and appearance. Not many places can say that. The old school atmosphere with no non-sense family run service is just right in my book. I prefer service with personality than generic pitch people we see these days.
This place remains a classic in my world

Pizza Subs and Desserts Among the Best. This place is a true institution. I would say any day order the pizza you like and order the subs. Truly Ottawa's best. The Crust and Cheese along with all the best toppings make this the top choice for Za in town.

One of a Kind. Never had a pizza like this. The dough and the sauce were quite unique. Loved it!

Cold, wet spaghetti. My friend and I went to Louis' for the first time yesterday due to the good reviews it has gotten on here. Unfortunately, my spaghetti and meatball dish was extremely watery and flavourless. The noodles were barely warm and the meatballs were cold.

Not impressed with the food, but I do have to say the service was extremely friendly.

Great food! Again and again!. The one thing I love about restaurants , is the consistency when you go back again. My wife and I visited our daughter we went there for dinner about twice this past year, and man, the food tasted good on both occasions! What I ordered was the Italian Poutine and the Combination Sub the first time there and what a tasty treats they were! The meat sauce atop of fries and real cheese curds, with a toasted sub done right with smoked meat, turkey ham and pepperoni with a little bit of veggies to say it's healthy! Shared the poutine of course and everyone fell in love with it. The Pizza was great as well especially the next day still good as the day it was made. The next time we went again, I ordered the same items and bam! The dishes not only looked the same and smelled the same but tasted the same! Next time we are visiting Ottawa to see our daughter you bet I'll be there again!

GREAT Family Restaurant. Beast Tasting breakfast cooked with love. They always remember your personal order. Best pizza in town and the sauce is so tasty with a crispy bready crust. Great real meat hamburgers and good tasting fries. Fresh as anything. Mile high cream pies made on the premises, banana, chocolate and coconut. Delicious, tasty and economically priced. Best of all the service is friendly and fast and the juke box will play any old tune you want. Not fancy atmosphere but good food and friendly service. We go at least once a week.

Breakfast Special. My sister suggested this place for breakfast. It really is a great neighbourhood restaurant. The owners appear to know so many people by their first name - and are also very friendly to newcomers like us. All three of us ordered the breakfast special. It came quite quickly. I had poached eggs and they were perfectly done. The bacon was nice and crispy. I am not a huge fan of the potatoes since I like mine very crunchy. We are looking forward to returning to try their famous pizza.

Terrific Pizza but the place itself is an old firetrap. So crowded with stalls that can barely sit adults, the heat vents in the floor are aimed right in your face and smell bad. We had to change placesaces three times until we were sitting along the front window where my wife caught a bad cold from being chilled in the back for over an hour.
You would think with the money this place makes that they would rebuild to city inspector standards...I'd hate for a fire to break out. Clients would perish before passing through the small door to the street!
No pizza is worth risking human lives...c'mon city inspectors, do something before a tragedy happens!

An Old Favorite...Revisited. I have always been a Louis Pizza fan (for 30+ years) but haven't gotten to eat there in many many years.... Well, I was so delighted to taste that familiar, fantastically, cheesy, delicious Louis goodness! The pizza was absolutely scrumptious in every way, from the crunchy cheese, the soft, fresh crust, to the taste tantalizing sauce.... mmmmm.... every bite was to die for! It was definitely everything I remembered and more. Can't wait to go back for more!!!

Great pizza and very filling. My advice for anyone ordering - ask for it well done

Fantastic Pizza. It hardly seems necessary to post yet another "Best Pizza in Town" review, but I'm going to do it anyway. We have been eating at Louis' for many years and it is by far the best in Ottawa. The negative reviewers are clearly looking for a different style of pizza. If you are looking for the trendy, wood-fired, thin crust, goat-cheese, arugula covered style of pizza then go somewhere else. Louis' is serving a traditional, "Canadian" style pizza that most of us grew up with. Nothing against the newer offerings, but you simply cannot compare the two. Apples and Oranges.

Louis' Pizza has an egg-dough crust and sweeter style tomato sauce. For me these two items set Louis' apart from other pizzerias in Ottawa. For me Pizza in Ottawa comes down to three places: Louis', KS on the Keys and Colonnade. All three are pretty equal, but Louis' is the best.

BEST PIZZA IN OTTAWA. I'm not a huge fan of their other menu items and their prices are high considering the food being offered but I don't mind shelling out almost $30 for a large pizza when it's this good. Best crust and sauce. Lots of cheese. Amazing pizza.

My all time favourite pizza!

More Bad Ottawa Pizza. It is almost impossible to walk into a pizza place in Ottawa and get a really good pizza. Why can't any of these places get a nice crisp crust and not drown it with cheap greasy cheese. Makes me wonder when people say the pest pizza in town compared to what Colonnade or Gabriel's yuk! The place was packed with people enjoying this stuff so one would think this Ottawa Mid East style of pie is the norm and judging a good pie is really irrelevant since there is nothing to judge it against. My pie had an awful texture soggy mushy to the point the crust let out water on my plate from the liberal dowsing of sauce and grease from the pepperoni boiling underneath the cheese. I did like this style of pie maybe because at the time I had never tried anything else. Sad state of pizza this town we call Ottawa :(

Great pizza! Diner experience is pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing. Very no frills, all home made and good quality ingredients. Wish they delivered..

Really appreciate the extra touch of the "welcome" written in tomato sauce on the pizza pan. That's great service right there!
BreakfastBabe
Not my style... I like my pizza with crispy pepperoni and for it to stay together, so after hearing nothing but the best about this place I was severely disappointed. The service was mediocre, the space was cramped, filled with screaming kids, and you actually have to eat the pizza with a fork and knife because it doesn't stay together if you hold it with your hands- it's too wet and greasy and doesn't stay together. Did I mention the booth was too small for me, and I'm only 5'6? The cashier at the end was very nice though!

Feels like home. Love this place, its so old school. and the pizza is delish.

Louis’: home of my favorite Canadian-style pie. You know, the kind with the thick bready crust, good tomato sauce, a classic combo with green peppers, mushrooms and peperoni – chewy with cheese. A great Saturday use to include bowling at MacArthur lanes and pizza at Louis’. Late nights after Rob’s band played often included a stop at Louis’ which was hopping like it was noon even in the wee hours despite not having a liquor license. Family owned Louis’ has been a Vanier institution for 52 years. Our waitress, gravelly-voiced and sweetie-calling, has been there 34 years.
