Review Gooney's Sandwich Works - Ottawa

Ordered on UberEATS, very reasonable price and great value for money! 100% will order again. All meat was tender, not dry at all. The coriander sauce is excellent! No complaints at all.

Scouring Google reviews in search for the perfect lunch place? Stop searching. Come here. 10/10. That is all I have to say as I think I’ve died and gone to heaven??? (Pictured/cause of death: the spicy chicken arepa)

A great restaurant offering an excellent quality arepa for a reasonable price. Order: Llanera Arepa ($10.00 each) x1 - Plenty of juicy beef inside - The avocado and tomato were great but there wasn't enough of them - The bun was a bit dry and I'd recommend adding extra sauce Vegetarian Arepa ($9.00 each) x1 - The filling was made up of mostly beans - The sauce and feta complimented the beans well and added more flavor - The greens were lacking in the arepa Atmosphere and Site: - A few tables inside with a cozy atmosphere - The outside of the restaurant doesn't grab your attention, making it so that it could be missed as you walk by Service: - The staff were friendly and able to explain the menu items - The food came out quickly

Pictures don’t do justice . We love this place so much . Amazing arepas . So many different options and they can accommodate you if you have any food restrictions. This is our favourite arepas place in the Ottawa area . Delicious , just while writing this review I’m craving one already .

Food was alright. We had the Isabella, which was pretty dry and lacked flavour. And the pollo picante which was much better. Loved the cheese and the arepa texture. But it was not worth $40 for three of these. Probably wouldn’t get them again, sorry!

Their arepas are out of this world. Excellent customer service, clean, and friendly. -> Went back after 3 yrs just to confirm my initial review. Amazing!

We checked Trip Advisor for best breakfast eats and found this little place around the corner from our hotel. Looked different and interesting so we walked over. Found out that an Arepa is an amazing breakfast wrap! Was so delicious we came back today for a second round. Highly recommended for breakfast and I bet the lunch sandwiches will be just as good from what we see on the menu. I almost forgot to mention they have the best coffee. Best Latte I’ve had in ages. Go there!

A hidden gem! The look, location and name (one would think an old-school diner or dive bar, right?) didn't appeal to me walking by, but a sign about arepas made me do a double take. Arepas? The South american corn-bread sandwich/pocket? In DT Ottawa? Yes and yes. Run by a family from Venezuela, this little sandwich shop serves these delicious pockets with a (expected) line-up of soup/salad/wraps.

The arepas at lunchtime cost around 6-7 bucks and filling for a regular appetite. Choose a number of combinations featuring meat, black beans, cheese and veggies. Mine had chunks of sweet 'n' savoury plantain to add an extra layer of tastiness! Yum!

They also have cheaper versions for breakfast and small selection of takeout items for those interested. The coriander/cilantro sauce, provided in bottles (next to the hot sauce) on tables is cool although I'd prefer a less garlicky version to allow the cilantro to shine through.

I've been here several times, especially that it's conveniently near work. Their sandwiches, especially their special bread is so yummy! They have a cilantro sauce that is to die for. I prefer their breakfast sandwiches, but their main sandwiches are delicious too.

Really good arepas. Mixes in traditional Venezuelan stuffings with Canadian ingredients and flavours to make some very good fusion food arepas (i.e. the perico arepa which they add bacon to... amazing!). The coriander sauce is a very nice addition too, and their coffee is pretty good as well!

Great place for a sandwich. Fresh and real. Their Arepas are amazing though! The best I've had. Highly recommended! Llanera is the my favourite. Don't be shy to try their breakfast arepas either. Better than having a breakfast sandwich in an English muffin. Warm, buttery and delicious. One of the better places in the downtown business district with reasonable prices.

I dropped into Gooney's today and brought home four arepas (2 Perico, 1 Pabellon, 1 Pernil) which were simply amazing! Venezolanissima! I will be returning frequently, I am sure!

Gooney's is a friendly place in the downtown core of Ottawa. A good selection of fresh sandwiches and salads every day and for breakfast the best "Arepas" in town. Clean, friendly, affordable, central. I have been going for years and it has always delivered a great meal. A must visit on a Saturday if you are downtown for their Latin "Arepafest" - a cultural gathering with the food, the coffee and the good friends.!

It's a great lunch spot. Fresh, homemade, delicious sandwiches and salads. Similing, friendly service. Honest prices. Try the A Goos sandwich or thai chicken salad. Mmmmm
