Review Central Bierhaus - Ottawa

I had a lot of food here. The food was delectable and fresh. The tastes that are offered here are very nice and it was good to see the handmade/fresh mustard. The pretzels were especially good and the drinks were nice and cold. Warm drinks were a great option too. Service was nice and pleasant to talk with. Come here with large groups and you will not regret it.

Easily the some of the best food I've had the pleasure of sharing with my family; the atmosphere and the dining areas are well made to best suit a relaxing dinner experience. The gentleman who was serving our table answered our questions with ease and was capable in offering suggestions. Definitely recommended for both fun dates and for big groups of people, but be wary that alcohol can raise the tab quickly if you're being conscious of your spending.

Oktoberfest had a great atmosphere and live polka band. Great schnitzel and German food options. Would be nice to have more seafood or vegetarian options. But overall a great place to go.

Sausages are really amazing here, especially the wild game variety. Good selection of beers on tap and in bottles. A lot of beers I have not heard of but will definitely try. My only complaint is that the lunch service needs to be faster, it’s just too slow. If your not in a hurry, it’s a good place to visit.

Went there on Tuesday for half price oysters. Very good and fresh. It was busy so we waited for a while but worth it. And so many beer choices. tried the kangaroo sausages as well, which was not as wired as I expected. It was like normal meat. No strong wild taste... good sausage. Definitely will go back for oysters and beers:)

I was thrilled to find a "Bierhaus" in the tradition of the Hofbrauhaus in Bavaria. A very impressive list of beer on tap, including Hofbrau! The service was quick and friendly. I only had beer and a pretzel (authenticish), so can't rate the food. A tad expensive (the pretzel was $9). A few individual tables outside would be nice. All together a pleasant experience.

This place has a great ambience and serves great food. Also it makes you feel like you are in Europe! The oysters are always super fresh and sausages & pretzels are my go-to’s! Staffs are very friendly as well. Thumbs up 👍🏻

Had a great experience here with the kids. German dare is not a regular find so it was so fun to try out the awesome menu. Pork belly was great, the sausage variety was outstanding (especially the game meats) and the schnitzel had delicious spatzel! Beer selection is great and the prices are pretty on par with the chain restaurant alternatives. Great find and the kids and I will be back.

Enjoyed our meal and drinks. Seating was uncomfortable on tall benches. Sad they dont have raclette and fondue on weekdays! Comparable to Biermarkt, but more casual feel. Comparing schnitzel i found theirs nice and very crispy but prefer biermarkt overall. Blonde waitress friendly and good service.

I ordered mussels. Not very good. The lemon grass was way overdone and ruined it. Couldn't even finish it. Then had the $30 short rib. Small portion. Perfectly cooked. Not that great overall. Very expensive.

Came here on a busy Friday night. Considering this I understand that service may be a bit slower than normal. Tonight the service was not fast at all. We waited for 30 minutes with empty plates on our table just waiting for the bill. The food was delicious. Beer was great. No issues other than the long wait. We will come back but maybe not on a busy night.

Stopped in for Dinner May 31st after an errand in the west end. Wow, beer bible extensive and varied; wish it were closer to me so I could "read" it on a regular basis. Boss had cider, which she said was cold and tasty, and I had the on-tap Steigl. So so good, cold and crisp. We opened with an order of fries, hot n crispy, with ketchup and a tasty garlic aoli. We then split the Bison Chipotle sausage plate. Came with 2 sausages (perfect), sauerkraut, and german style potato salad . Sausage was very tasty, dense and packed with flavour. Not to hot an the chipotle gave it a nice taste. Sauerkraut delish with bacon chunks throughout. Potato salad was also excellent; skins on potatoes with a few green beans and a light mayo based sauce. Finished up with a piece of pumpkin pie; candied pumkin seeds set it off nicely but crust on the pie a bit thick for our liking. Have read in other reviews issues with service here. Ours was prompt and attentive without being cloying. I will say that our server was extremely robotic in her interaction with us; kinda like having food delivered by drone. Did not diminish our experience however. As east end dwellers we probably won't be regulars but its definitely on our list of go-agains in the west end.

We always go here before a Sens game and even my father (who is notoriously hard to please in terms of restaurants) loves it. We've had tasty appetizers, great burgers and sausages. It's a great non-chain restaurant and my go-to German and Kanata spot. They have some great and generously portioned wines for non-beer drinkers like myself.

Food was decent, but the service was bad. Impersonal and rushed as the other reviews say. My biggest issue with my visit tonight results from the fact that I have a dairy intolerance and asked for my meal without butter. Server said fine, we can make it without dairy, and referenced my dairy "allergy" again before leaving the table. Somehow I still received a meal slathered in butter. I ate it begrudgingly as it was a business dinner and I wasn't about to make a scene, but I'm leaving this review in hopes that they get the message and get their act together, and also to warn any others with food intolerances or allergies to avoid the place.

Kanata is mostly chain restaurants and it's tough to find places with fresh food, a cool dofferent atmosphere and great service but this place does all that. The Central bierhaus is right beside the movie theater where O'cconnors used to be but don't be fooled , the food here is not cheap pub, deep fried food, it's really good. The mussels are good , the burger is outstanding the perogiea are a nice touch as are the different types of sausage plates. The restaurant has a German/European theme to it and the large variety of import European beer selections is outstanding. This restaurant is great to bring the family as well as go for a few beers with your friends. If you're in the west end of Ottawa this is a great spot to try.

Went there for a friend's birthday and ordered some oysters along with a lobster poutine. The oysters were delicious, and there were many types to choose from. The poutine was also good, although it could have used a little more lobster. Atmosphere was nice as well, a little loud since it was a game night but that's to be expected. Overall a good experience, would definitely go back for the oysters.

Went to the Central Bierhaus for a Saturday Lunch knowing that friends had recommended it. We were not let down. Aside from the obvious incredible diverse selection of beers (including some lovely trappist beers), the food was definitely our highlight. The pork belly appy might be one of the most delicious food I have ever eaten. It was a brilliant combination of flavor and texture. The sausages, of course were fantastic. The 7 sausage plate can easily fill 3 people. The fries were the perfect combination of crunch and salt...just awesome.

We also had our 2 year old daughter there, and she was welcomed happily (crayons and everything). Great atmosphere, wonderfully friendly staff, and spectacular food/drink. Highly recommend going here.

Each time I've been to the Bierhaus the service has been absolutely terrible. The last time I visited we had 4 servers in the span of about 1.5hrs. The place was packed and it seemed they just kept rotating who was serving our area among the servers. The two entrees weren't served at the same time (5 mins apart), and when I asked for some recommendations on one of the menu items I was told to "check it out on the menu" as the server walked away. The trouble is, they have a great beer selection which inevitably draws me back in once I forget how poor the service was in the previous visit.

Went for lunch. The decor here is really quite nice(even found the washroom to be kind of awesome). The drink menu is extensive, it would be easy to find something new or something familiar. The lunch menu was small but diverse enough to make choosing one item a little challenging. I tend to prefer smaller menus, it usually means better quality food. The server was knowledgable and attentive. We were not on a lunch hour break and didn't feel rushed as we took our time. But I would note that others came and went while we ate, so they can feed you faster.
I plan to return as there are other items I want to try. Had the wild boar sausage plate. Very tasty with Bavarian potato salad and sauerkraut. Others had potato fish cakes, bratwurst plate and angus burger. All meals were enjoyed. One puzzler was the pile of lettuce on the burger plate. No dressing, just a pile of lettuce that was too big to be a garnish.

Very nice athmosphere. Went here after a show at Canadian Tire Centre. We had a big pretzel, a flight of sausages and perogies. Amazing. The beer is awesome to. Highly recommemded.

When I first entered Bierhas I was pleasantly surprised by the expertly crafted decor. Massive wood picnic tables, high ceilings, big screens. It is a pub and a good one at that. With a beer selection that rivals that of any pub or restaurant on the eastern seaboard it's community seating will accommodate groups of large and small sizes with a bar large enough to accommodate a crowd wanting to watch the next Sens game. Or the odd Senator wanting to grab a bite after the game.

The menu loosely is based on traditional European takes on Canadian pub food but with a focus on Germany. As seen by its rather large sausage menu. Yes, odds are if you want a sausage Bierhaus has what your looking for large, small, sweat and spicy, and even some game if that's what your into (I had kangaroo).

The staff is spirited enough to dress up on the holidays and especially Octoberfest where the staff for three weeks sport lenderhosens and host a variety of games and festivities.

Which brings me to my last visit. I was on tinder and felt like grabbing a sausage. So I made a date and decided to go to Bierhaus. This is where I figured out that Bierhaus doesn't exactly lend itself well with one on one dates because of its communal seating arrangements.

We got in and the server recommended we share a plate of sausage. Never do this on a first date. Here I was playing lady and the tramp feeding my date sausage and subsequently having her eat my sausage on the first date.

It was actually really fun and I highly recommend Bierhaus as a place to grab a bite, hang out with friends and watch the game.
I love the German bier hall atmosphere. Big screen TV's so you can watch the game and comfy bar stools and, as mentioned previously, communal style of seating. The food is not your typical bar food, it's a little pricey, but it's worth the quality. Sausage is flavourful and they have many varieties, sauerkraut is good as well and do not underestimate the giant bavarian pretzel - it's HUGE. I think I might like this place better than 3 Brewers down the street for a food/drinks hangout.
Generically Honest
Very good beer, a tad expensive but its what expect for European beer. I would suggest getting the beers on tap otherwise you could get the same bottles for a third of the price at LCBO.

The decor is stunning - industrial art installation motif. Comfiest bar stools ever, communal style seating, great place to watch the game. The beer list is fantastic, but their wine menu is really poor. I get that it's a BEER house, but they should be showcasing some half decent wine offerings at the very least. Only food items worth getting are the Lobster Poutine & the Mussels - everything else is not worth it. Also, the service is lacking in that it always feels impersonal, rushed, and unengaging. Sometimes I wish floor manager would make the rounds to check on the patrons. Despite the cons, a semi-high rating was needed due to the atmosphere & beer list. Rework the menu!

Great atmosphere, nice staff, excellent beer, reliable food, and good kids' meals made this place the perfect choice for a Sunday evening family get together. As a bonus they had live music provided by a rather talented duo.
Alana Pace-Robillard
The place is gorgeous - authentic Bavaria meets the sleekness of North American decor. The ambience is pleasant and the service was engaging and personable. We were immediately impressed with the bier list. The food menu was simple but we anticipated that it was because the quality was really good. It was evident the ingredients were fresh. However, the food was quite bad. My husband's food was bland an inauthentic. The dressing of my salad wasn't palatable and the flank steak was rubbery. I would recommend this place for someone looking for good beer and pretzels. For food? I'd say steer clear!!!
Chris K
Mediocre at best. I was very unsatisfied. Food was terrible, service was worse, and I was not satisfied with value at all. I will not be going back.

Central Bierhaus has a nice German Beer Hall vibe. Love all the dark wood and high ceiling.

The beer list here is impressive with beers from around the World especially from Europe: German/Belgium. There are also around 15 or so selections on taps from Ontario's Breweries. So everyone should able to find something that they enjoy here.

Sausages with Mustard (Wild Game sausages $33) and Beers?!

Great place to have a pint or 2 with friends and catch some sport events on all the TVs.

A little on the pricey side but fun to be here for a drink once in awhile.

Great atmosphere Good service and food. The beer selection is huge. The service was good and we really enjoyed the food (schnitzel, sausage etc). What else do ya need..Reminds of the restaurant at Germany in Epcot (Disneyworld).Really enjoyed it.Looking forward to my next visit.

This place is fantastic. I've been twice on busy Saturday afternoons. The service is amazing and the food is excellent. Both times we were a group of 6 and everybody was impressed with the food. The sausage flight is great to share. The short ribs and burgers and pretzels great and the beer list to die for. Each time our waiter knew the beer menu inside out and all recommendations were thoroughly enjoyed. We will certainly be regulars!

Amazing experience altogether!. A friend and I had heard about the central beer house through a colleague, and decided to check it out for ourselves last Friday. All I can say is wow! Amazing atmosphere, love the decor, the bathrooms are very cool. We stood beside the sausage stand before being seated, thought that was a neat feature to the restaurant. We were warmly greeted by our waitress Emma, who suggested oysters and an array of beers based on our preferences. We wanted to try something local, as we are both from out of town, and were offered to try Beaus, great beer! We also tried a dozen oysters, great presentation, and the house sauces that accompanied them were fantastic as well, never had tequila or scotch before! I found the menu to be a bit small, but we found something nonetheless. I decided to have the kangaroo sausage plate after seeing the sausage station, and my friend had the beef short rib which sounded and looked amazing! My kangaroo sausage was good, the potato salad a bit bland and no real need for the bun, however still enjoyed it. I usually like to end off a meal with a scotch, lagavulin if available, and upon hearing my interest in scotch Emma suggested I try the smoked beer from Germany instead, the name which I can't remember. A bit skeptical at first but she convinced me I would not be disappointed, which I was not! My friend ended up getting the same thing, and I had two. Great experience, your staff knows their stuff ! Will definitely be back for more smokey beers.

OVERPRICED. The atmosphere is fine, service was fine, beer selection great but the food was subpar and SO overpriced. I took a soup because it was lunch time. At $7 the bowl, you would expect a full bowl not a freaking cup of it and no buns? What the hell?
I was so shocked by how over priced it was. The sausage plate is over $15 and my husband didn't even like the sides. He didn't touch them and when the server saw that, he didn't even took that opportunity to ask what was wrong.

We were a group of 12, we dropped $200 in that place and we all left with a bitter taste in our mouth. The only thing that worked for us, was the beer selection and that would be the only reason I would go back: for a beer.

What an awesome beer menu! If you're looking to watch sports on a big screen and drink beer this is your place. However, I would not return for dinner unless a menu change occurred. Everything we ordered was subpar and over priced. We ordered the sausage platter, which the waiter confirmed was their speciality, so I expected great things. The sausages we received were bland and underwhelming. Farmboy/Costco have better sausages! Disappointed overall.

Great atmosphere, but menu needs work. Being a huge fan of beer, food, and sports I had to check this new place out. Myself, along with 3 other guys and 3 ladies sat at a long table infront of the big screen the first time. 2nd time I went was with my parents, and third time just myself and a friend.
Decor, and overall German-Oktoberfest-Party theme is awesome. Bathroom was spotless. Patio is spacious.
Draught and bottle selection are excellant. However, after trying the food 3 seperate times, I am dissapointed. Although the fresh cut fries and bratwurst were good, the schnitzel sandwhich was dry and lacking, the coleslaw was not very appetizing, and the pretzel is "highly recommended", but its just salted dough. Nothing special. The cauliflower soup was like milk and water, and I sent it back
I think they need to open up their menu choices to have more traditional pub food on top of the main German theme. If this business is going to survive, they have to cater to a wider audience. Majority of the people I went there with agree. My parents will never eat there again.
While I was there the first time, my table got to meet Chris Neil, which is awesome. The service was good. It was great to see that they hire experienced, really nice, male and female servers not just barbie bimbo's like their neighbour Moxie"s. The bartender I had the last time was a great dude (Jay? Jason?) and was very quick and attentive.
I will probably try it again in the new year, hopefully they will iron out the kinks and make some changes.

Good With Room to Improve. Been here twice, once at lunch and once before a movie. Both times the food was good, nothing special but good. I had a schnitzel sandwich and it was very good. The deviled eggs were also good. Everything seemed a little overpriced (deviled eggs were $8 for three). The beer selection is advertised as being big, but on my second visit my first four selections were unavailable that day. The decor is great but the seats were a little uncomfortable. Overall, they are still fairly new and I will be back. I can't see 3 Brewers sticking around... it's no comparison.

Wonderful place (so far!). We went to this place 2ce. The first time the service sucked. Very long waits and confusion. The beer and food were great my bro, my friend and my fiancee really enjoyed the food and deserts. When we decided to give it one last try (mostly for a beer as they have an amazing selection of beers there and they are all served in appropriate glasses etc.) also sometimes the kinks have to be ironed out when just opening a venue.

We mentioned that the service before was unsat. and they really compensated for it, even having the manager come up and offer a dessert which we were too full to eat. The burger and fries we had were a bit pricey but really no pricier than at The Works and the food was MUCH better! Fries crisp, and hand cut. The beers both times were amazing. Both times our servers had very good knowledge of the beers available and made sound recommendations.

The decor is great. (a bit loud but not unworkable). The washrooms are very modern and clean. They have a special grill area where they do the sausages up nicely for the customers. All in all I really like this place. Just have to make sure that they keep up quick service.

Disappointing Service, won't be going back.. Went on a Saturday afternoon for a first visit with two girl friends. We were brought to a table, but after being there for only 30 minutes, in a less than third full restaurant, we were told that the table we were sitting at was reserved in an hour and we would have to leave by then. We weren't offered another table to sit at and we weren't told before being seated that there was a reservation. We assured them we would be gone before the reservation was scheduled. Only 30 minutes later, we were visited by another staff member who reminded us that we had a limited time left. Again, we were not offered alternate seating arrangements, and there were plenty, we were just told we had to vacate the table.
Three people, who all live in the area, with families and friends in the area, who won't be returning. All because, on or first visit, we were asked to leave twice after only having drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

The name wins it. I love the name. The atmosphere was awesome. I could honestly walk outside and not know if I was just in a bar in europe or Ottawa. They have done an awesome job creating that vibe. Food was delicious and the beer selection was...AMAZING!

Foodie from Stittsville. First visit today. Lunch menu small but interesting offerings. Enjoyed fresh oysters, Mussels, caesar salad and the Angus Burger. Oysters were delicious and fresh. Mussels in light sauce were awesome (didn't match Mama Teresa's who has the best in Ottawa) but very tasty, tender and had a spicy bite in the sauce. Caesar salad was one of the best I've had in a long time. The crispy capers were a delightful touch. The burger was juicy and quite good. We sat at the bar and the bartender, Rocco, was very patient with all our questions. He was knowledgeable, friendly and well, very good at his job. He shucked the oysters like an ole pro. We will definitely return. Family friendly during the day, as I understand the night life is very busy at this newbie to Centrum. Thanks for a great customer experience.

Awesome atmosphere and beer selection!!. I was only in the restaurant for a quick bite and a beer, but it was excellent! I love the open concept layout, the servers were great, and my soup was very tasty. I also had a really great pint of a German beer I can't pronounce - delish though.

Impressed!. Atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic. OMG, the beer selection!!! Food was delicious. Staff were exceptional. Say good bye to the 3 Brewers restaurant next door.

Not what I expected but great food and services. Showed up on a Wednesday for a bite to eat. Was surprised to see the unique menu and almost left but we were introduced to our server, James Hogan.James Had a great insight on the food and beer. Was not afraid to tell us that he had only tried certain beer a day before which made him to be very sincere. Would definitely recommend, we would go back for the food but definitely the server. Go Hogan!!!

Slow and disappointing, probably not going back. Went on a Friday evening around 8 and everything was just off. Was sat on the patio which is a bunch of shared picnic tables. Although the idea is cool it's really impractical; the nice couple on a date that we shared our table with looked uncomfortable sitting beside a bunch of guys drinking beer and my back was sore after about half an hour. The beer selection isn't that impressive overall, Pub Italia on Preston has a better selection in their Beer Bible. The thing Bierhaus has going for it is the variety available on tap I guess. Food was meh, the best part of my sausage meal was the fresh bun. Sauerkraut tasted like poison. Service was absent, it took 30 minutes to get a bill after asking and the waiter didn't bother clearing our empty plates or offering us more beer.

Sunday lunch. We stopped in after a matinee. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was inviting and great for watching games. We sat outside on the patio which was also a nice atmosphere with their huge tables.
The beer menu was impressive. We tried a hopf wiess and it was light and refreshing.
Because the menu is very small we were hoping that the food would be very well prepared.
The pretzel was a hit, made in house and very tasty, a little salty and overpriced at $8.00 (it is after all, just bread).
We were recommended the veal schnitzel sandwich and the Angus burger so that's what we ordered. The veal schnitzel was overcooked, heavily breaded, and overly salted ( perhaps a slip by the cook). I questioned whether it was made in house because of the thick breading that was not necessary since it was served in a bun. The bun was very tasty, and the fresh cut fries and local greens were delicious.
The Angus burger toppings were tasty but the patty was disappointing, as it frozen and premade. There is no need for a frozen $16.00 hamburger patty in a quality restaurant that wants to impress its new guests. Once again, the potatoes and field greens salad were very tasty.
Disappointed by the burger patty and mediocre veal we decided not to order dessert.

Overall a 6 out of 10.

Good for beer and atmosphere. Great place to have a pint and watch a game. The food.... Not so much. Lobster poutine had potential, but missed the mark.
HereForTheBeer
I really enjoyed this restaurant. It has a great atmosphere for both the sports lover and anyone looking to have a nice night out. The service was excellent. The beer selection is extensive, with 30 choices of draft beers and countless bottled choices there is something for everyone. The food is a North American twist on traditional German fare. I tried the pretzel and house made sausage which were both delicious. I would definitely recommend trying central bierhaus.
Mmmpizza22
So far so good. I went last Friday during the middle of the afternoon for a pint and a pretzel. The service was good and the beer was delicious. Pretzel was also really good other than the fact I don't like dijon mustard very much. That's not the restaurants fault. Maybe they could offer up a bottle of regular mustard as well as the little side mustards that come with it. I actually ended up back at the centrum that night for more beer and this time checked out the inside of the bierhaus. Really cool place and again good service which is key. I'll be going back soon in sure.

To fill our stomachs, we started with the traditional sausage flight (platter) which was served with bacon saurkraut and three mustards from McGarrigles . Then we got the giant soft pretzel, confit maple pork belly, and lobster poutine. It was too much food.
