I've been here 3 or 4 times, and always found the food to be amazing! The staff is very helpful and the restaurant itself has quite a unique design. Truly Japanese owners, staff and chef makes this place the best and most authentic experience that you can have in Ottawa. I've never had better Japanese food in this city. I can hardly wait to try the izakaya menu!
One of the best Japanese food places in the city. I don't go there near as much as I'd like. The food is beyond great.
I go once a week to get the #1....chicken teriyaki combination.....my all time favourite...yummy!!! Would recommend this place in a heart beat....excellent service, for lunch you're in and out in an hour!
Wonderful restaurant. Authentically Japanese! I do recommend it to everyone interested to feel like in Japan for a moment.
The best Sushi in Ottawa with private dining areas and great service.

This is my favorite restaurant in Ottawa! Great food! Great service! Highly recommend
Have been coming here for years and it is always delicious!
Best Japanese food in Ottawa! Authentic, delicious and friendly:)
Definitely the BEST! Excellent service, wonderful food, great atmosphere!
Yup. Superb. Mr. Arai knows how to run the show. Get whatever, enjoy it all. Try to get a basement seat, and a reservation.
Thank you so much for letting my best friend and I have the greatest, tastiest, most delightful and traditional sushi bar experience ever! We look forward to putting our full trust in Shu san again to guide our palates and enable us to discover the exquisite art of sushi some more. Many thanks to the entire team at C'est Japon à Suisha for catering to our every needs! I am excited to find out what I will be trying next! Anyone in the area MUST stop by and experience truly fine Japanese dining for themselves.
Quite pricey (based on the portions), but overall very tasty! All the appetizers were delicious and seasoned perfectly. Service was great and overall ambience was comfortable!
The sushi was phenomenal with its high quality, fresh fish. I’m talking sushi-grade fish cut with precision and skill served at the right temperature. The perfectly acidified sushi rice was served at body temperature – the way it should be – for proper texture and flavour. This really makes a difference!
We are regulars here and always look forward to eating at the Sushi bar where we can watch their talented chef doing what he does best. This is by far the best Sushi in the entire city, owned and run for forty years by a Japanese family. The private rooms are also a great place too dine for moderately sized groups. Try the chef's choice at the bar and you won't be disappointed. Their draft japanese beer is also ice cold, so it makes a great stop for the after work crowd.
Entering this restaurant made me feel like i was out of canada and in japan. I have to say, It was a fun experience having lunch here. Service was great, very helpful and patient as well they have dry asahi , one of my favorite drinks. We had the kamakazi and eb-ni (sorry if it's misspelled) it was delicious also the lunch set menu. While others took the salmon dish in which they commented it was pretty good I had the tempura dish which was ok but I guess it's not my cup of tea. I should remove tempura off of my diet . But all in all it was a cool time spent :)
Had a happy server who was patient with a very large order and delivered a great meal. The sushi was extremely fresh and the tempura tried was absolutely delicious. Only been once, but hope to amend to 5 stars after trying more options
Absolutely wonderfully run, came here during a vacation and it is by far one of the best Japanese restaurants here. Service is wonderful, lots of them are fluent in japanese, food is excellent, but slightly pricey (very worth the price though), I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.
As someone who lived in Japan I can vouch that the sushi and other traditional Japanese dishes are spot on. I highly recommend booking one of the private rooms downstairs which are very traditional with the sunken tables (make sure to take off your shoes before you enter these rooms)
.
High quality and delicious!. Been here a couple of times, service and food is consistent and delicious. Portions are filling, menu is a bit pricey, but from what I hear from the servers, they have items delivered from Japan. I've had some of the sushi, ramen lunch set, and their weekly specials make each visit a new experience. The cooks are Japanese, and the interior design and setting is romantic and fun.
If you want more for your buck, definitely go at lunch time with a reservation! I've seen them turn people away because there was just no tables available for walk ins at lunch.
Fresh and delicious. My favorite restaurant

Best Sushi in Ottawa. This place is simply amazing. If you have a chance and a group of 4-6, I would definitely suggest a private room downstairs. They have the traditional paper-walled rooms down there. Wonderful staff.
We've been here at least a half dozen times, and something to keep in mind is that it's never cost us less than $60 a person.
Definitely worth it though.
Very friendly staff. Food is also good. Nothing spectacular but tasty.
Very friendly service ... hard working. communicate well to ensure up to date if delay expected.
tasty sushi ... very fresh.
asked for chef choice which provided a variety of sashimi that were each fresh and complementary. rice of some on warm side but all very tasty.
would return.
Awesome night. My partner and I went there for a romantic date and loved it! The decor is nice, the food is delicious and extremely fresh and they have a lot of options aside from the typical sushi plates. We had the Udon soup, the sashimi salad, the calamari and a maki roll. Everything met our expectations. The service here is very warm and friendly. You feel welcome from the minute you walk in. We'll definitely be back.
Best Sushi in town. Likely the best sushi restaurant in town. Went there for lunch, the service was fast, the fish was fresh, and the homemade ginsing salad dressing was amazing. Owners are Japanese which is an added bonus.. Great place to eat!
Amazing Sushi - Finally!. I'm a sushi fanatic and this restaurant nailed it. I can literally eat there everyday if I had the time and money. The service is also extremely high. I recommend the egg nigiri. The selection of nigiri fish options is not found anywhere in the city, neither is the proper preparation style. I consider us lucky to have this restaurant in Ottawa. Saves us from flying thousands of kilometers.
Real Japanese experience. I went there for supper with my boyfriend for our anniversary. He had reserved a tatami room before hand so we could experience a real Japanese atmosphere.
I just love everything of this restaurant. Even though it's out of my price range, I know that I'll try my best to go there about twice a year.
The foods are fresh, tasty. Nice light green tea (my boyfriends said he really liked it, I had never seen him having that much of tea before lol). Real taste of hot sake. I had tried real Japanese sake once when I was still in my home town and I couldn't find any restaurant serves sake with same taste, until Suisha. Actually, it's better lol.
Fancy service I would say. The servers are really nice, friendly. They know exactly what they have to do, and I felt like they were enjoying to serve their customers, an attitude that we can never get from an all-you-can-eat-sushi restaurant.
Best Japanese restaurant in town :)
Our favourite go to spot for a quick lunch. I have not experimented with much because the number one lunchbox special is just so addictive. Light and crispy shrimp and vegetable tempura and juicy chicken serves with rice and salad with two delicious sauces for drizzling and dipping. The service is fast, the food is fresh and tasty and the prices are reasonable. Great experience.
Not 100% traditional, but very good. My parents-in-law were visiting from Japan. We wanted to take them somewhere authentic so we chose C'est Japon a suisha, where we'd been before a few times. For the most part it was "authentic" and very Japanese, but even the server admitted (when we complained about the gyudon and unadon) that the tastes were adjusted a bit for Western palates, who would not necessarily like the real taste of Japan. I can see her point from a marketing point of view, I guess (although Japanese food is delicious for Western palates as it is, I think), but I don't think they should put "tradition" on their advertising if it's not really so.
The gyudon and unadon both had the same excessively sweet (for Western tastes) sauce (they should have been different sauces for each dish, apparently). My family admits that Japanese food is very sweet (they love salt and sugar to cook with) but in my 12 years in Japan - and with my family to back me up, including my wife, who teaches Japanese cooking here in Ottawa - I don't recall eating gyudon or unadon so sweet as this. My suggestion is for the server to ask patrons who are clearly Japanese (as we were, since we were speaking to her in Japanese) if they want true traditional food, and then inform the chef accordingly. I stopped eating my gyudon and wanted to ask for some white rice to cut the sweetness, but the waitress didn't come back and I was hungry, so muddled through it. In any case, I was a bit embarrassed since we had told our parents it was the "real deal" but in fact wasn't quite.
All that said, it's about as real as you can get in Ottawa without coming over to my house, and I would certainly still recommend it to anyone, with the caution to specify to the waitress if you have any food preferences, just to be on the safe side. I recall thinking that the gyudon would be a diabetic's nightmare!
Excellent - Best in Town. I finally managed to remember to take the kids to Suisha on a weekend. Since they're not open Sundays we keep forgetting (that's our normal night).
We booked on of the downstairs rooms with the more traditional seating. The stream that they have set the ambiance nicely.
Every single dish we had, ranging from the miso soup, teriyaki chicken, sashimi, nigiri, and rolls were phenomenal. The service was impeccable and it the traditional style left our kids pretty much gobsmacked.
An excellent time - one warning - the wasabi at Suisha is stronger than most places, but it is excellent too.
Went for lunch with colleagues and had a great meal. A nice selection of dishes/combinations on the lunch menu and service was speedy so we were in and out in about an hour. I will definitely be heading back again!
Friendly staff and delicious food. My first visit to Suisha - the staff were amazing and engaging. The food was outstanding. Fresh fish, excellent tempura and tasty teriyaki. I had their combo platter ":Suisha Combo". Decent price ($27) for the amount of food and a chance to taste a range of dishes. It was all good, but the sushi itself was the best!
Awesome food, attentive service however a bit pricey. My go to spot for sushi everytime I visit Ottawa. Will be back for more..
Definitely the best place to get authentic traditional Japanese food!. I would definitely go to this place again! It's such a great place to have traditional Japanese food (and by traditional I don't mean all-you-can-eat).
Although the cost is really expensive compared to other restaurants, it is one of the best places for sushi. The atmosphere was great and the sushi here is ACTUALLY fresh (not stale, fishy, nor rough texture). Some people don't know how to appreciate good food, but personally I think it's worth the money to try it.
One thing I like to state about this restaurant is that it's actually owned by Japanese people. It is hard trying to find a Japanese restaurant nowadays that make things traditionally and this restaurant is one that doesn't come often.
This place is the best bar none!!! Ask for mike (I think he is the manager). Seriously this place is the ONLY location for sushi in Ottawa. It's awesome!
HOSPITALITY FROM THE HEART. Suisha Gardens and Totoya Restaurant are the best in town!
Good service, great steak & chicken combo, pleasant atmosphere (downstairs). Little pricey but worth the $.
Good sushi. Great atmosphere in the downstairs area -always ask to be seated there
This restaurant has a gorgeous atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and a large variety of fish. When you go, ask to sit downstairs – the seating there offers an experience to remember.
The fish itself is very high quality. This restaurant offers one of the greatest varieties Ottawa has to offer, with Uni and Toro as hard-to-find highlights.

Awesome authentic Japanese food and awesome service. We will definitely come again❤️
The restaurant has private rooms downstairs. The kids just love it so much.
For dinner, you may need reservation as it is very popular. (On Saturday, We called in at 6pm, but it was full at the moment so we booked the table at 8pm instead. )
I was so happy to see one of my family’s favourite restaurants keeping up its high standards. Our dinner was as excellent as usual. In my opinion, this is the only authentic Japanese restaurant in Ottawa.
For a truly authentic experience, you can’t do better. Here, service, ambiance, food and quality are a true representation of a Japanese restaurant that really cares. Been a few times and found it to be consistently very very good. Attention to details is evident and spotless everywhere you look.
Very nice sushi and appetizers. The interior is nicely decorated and good vibes. Unfiltered sake was very good.
I came to this restaurant for dinner recently. The boats floating around the sushi bar was definitely a highlight of the restaurant. In terms of food, I tried the Chicken Kara-age and Kaisen Chirashi. The miso soup that came with it tasted a bit salty but bland. The Chicken Kara-age had decent pieces of nicely flavoured chicken that were fresh, juicy, crispy, and tender. The Chirashi had quite a bit of food, including 2 pieces of the following: Salmon (Decent), Tuna (Ok), Maguro (Decent), Hamachi (Fresh and sweet), Scallop (Decently sweet), Snapper (Sweet but bad cut), Squid (Decently sweet), Seared salmon belly (nice blend/change compared to the rest), Surf clam (Sweet), Fish roe (Ok). In general, the sashimi were fairly crunchy, slightly fishy, but overall fairly fresh. The sushi rice was just okay though.
If you want authentic Japanese restaurant, this is the place. Wonderful food, superior environment, lovely staff.
My friends and I celebrated our little girl’s second birthday here. Because we have children, the dinner party was a bit noisy, and the restaurant staff showed great patience. Thank you very much for everything they have done for our birthday. I like the food that day very much. I was very satisfied with all the food that day. Especially eel rice. If you ask me if I will come back here, I will say yes without hesitation.
The food is decent. I ordered the wrong sushi a plate, it was all raw fish even in the sushi roll, so couldn't eat it. My friend enjoyed it though.
