I love this place! The food is so good, and very celiac friendly gluten free! Sadly, they've had to remove their dairy free coconut rice pudding from the menu, but they might consider bringing it back if there's enough demand. For those of us with gluten and dairy intolerances, this was such a treat! The ribs are my favourite... with a side of fries. So delicious!

Rib Wrap and Sale was very tasty. Highlight of the meal was the fresh baked Gingerbread cake with Maple Rum Sauce. Simply amazing. Our server Briggite was very friendly and helpful..
My book club meets here regularly once at month. The staff are very accommodating and welcoming. The upstairs has been a great space for it and the food is always amazing. We especially love the desserts and Snickers pie is a must.

Went for dinner for our first wedding anniversary. Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken and the sweet potato fries! It was so nice to have an actual meal with my husband at a restaurant that was so knowledgeable about celiac disease. Will definitely be going back.

I noted a Foolish Chicken Takeout menu on the zomato website. There is no Takeout menu on the actual Foolish Chicken website so I called them.... They said that the takeout was the same menu as in the restaurant. As the zomato menu had different items and different prices than the Foolish Chicken menu, it should be taken down or updated as it is incorrect.

We went to the Foolish Chicken tonight and were glad we did. After 3 weeks of eating out 3 meals a day, their down to earth food felt great. The chicken was tender and tasty, the sides flavourful, and the quantity perfect. While not a fancy restaurant, it had a warm, inviting atmosphere with original art on the walls. The warmth of the waitress matched the place, and we were so glad we went there.
Great place! My family decided to celebrate the end of the semester with a nice dinner. The Foolish Chicken is one of our favourite joint in Hintonburg.
I ordered the soup of the day which turned out to be a lovely curry sweet potato potage. The hint of coconut was pleasant and the heat level was just enough to tingle but not overwhelm. I opted for the chicken garden salad as my main with the house dressing. Nice portion and very healthy. The other members of my family ordered a miscellaneous array of chicken dishes ( with chicken in the name, it's a must). The ribs are also very meaty with a perfect amount of sauce. To cap this wonderful meal, we shared two desserts : Snickers pie and Coconut rice pudding. That pie was divine but I felt like the portion could have been slightly larger( I can be glutton sometimes)
The service was very attentive and personable however there was a bit of a long wait between the appetizers and the mains.
Overall, solid place if you are in the neighbourhood.
We ordered a full rack of ribs and half a chicken for two people and we were stuffed. We had bbq baked beans and fries on the side. The fries were nothing special but the beans were DELICIOUS. I think they could have been the best thing I had there. The ribs were juicy and fall off the bone. Chicken was pretty good too. The bbq sauce here is a bit on the sweeter side (I do like tangy bbq sauce).
Just ate there with family - generous amounts of awesome food, and friendly, excellent service. I'd recommend to anyone. We'll be going back for sure.
A little gem of a restaurant tucked away in Wellington West. Good service, great food and reasonable prices. I had the pulled chicken and it was delicious. I'll be back.
You should visit this place just for the desserts. Seriously, best rice pudding I've ever had, hands down! It's not too sweet and the coconut crumble on top just takes it to another level. It's also dairy AND gluten free which is a rare find in a BBQ restaurant. The cheesecakes are also fantastic, and as expected the chicken is cooked to perfection. I tried the baby back ribs this time and found them tender but the sauce is on the sour side and a tad too runny. Think more vinegar less ketchup in terms of BBQ sauce. Their "fries" are more like very thin wedges which aren't as satisfying, but the waiter was hilarious and overall I had a great experience. I will be back again for that rice pudding!
Serious Chicken!. This is a real fun place that knows how to feed you. The chicken is amazing, the nachos are legit and the cheesecakes are a blessing. The owner is a gentleman and he has built a real comfortable place to bring friends, family or a date.
Great food, high quality, very fair price. I ate here, again, and why wouldn't I? When you want a great bite, at very reasonable prices, this place is a great choice. All the meats are very well executed, and the service is always very friendly. Not to mention the little things like homemade soups and killer homemade desserts.
Best value in HIntonburgh!. HIntonburgh is overflowing with artisanal filler, truffle oil, and food with saucy titles and no substance. The foolish chicken is clearly about the food and prepared by people that love food. We picked up a family meal for takeout and it was enough food for the two of us to have for two nights. Were else can you get 4 full meals for thirty bucks? Independently of the price the chicken is incredible, and I still have dreams about the sweet potato fries and chipotle mayo.

Something to SCREAM ABOUT!!. As someone who has allergies ( very serious ones) to wheat, nuts and other things.
Last night we decided to take the advice of a friend. We were met by a wonderful smell when we entered.
We both were very please with a menu that was very clearly labeled with allergies and a staff that understood allergies.

I loved the chicken with sweet potato fries. Juicy chicken that was not in the least bit dry. The sauce was flavorful. They have a yummy jalapeno dipping sauce that was so yummy on the fries.
We had coconut pudding that was so good I wanted a second one.
Needless to say, I have now found a restaurant i feel safe in with food that is QUICK, YUMMY, GOOD QUALITY, and CHEAP! And as an extra added bonus staff who are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Worth trying. The food (chicken and ribs) is so delicious and the service is very amicable. They care about their clientele and it seems they have a lot of regulars coming in. We went a few weeks ago for the first time and we all liked it very much. Their homemade desserts (cheesecakes etc.) are so incredible that I decided to pick one up after work. A must try in Ottawa and their prices are decent too.
Great food, generous portions. Stopped by for lunch with coworkers today, and almost missed the place because it was so small. But the food is great, I ordered a sandwich with salad expecting a light meal but the portions were very generous and it ended up being quite filling. The sauces that they use are amazing.. I love the chipotle and bbq. I didn't try the desserts, but they've apparently won 3 awards for best desserts and they certainly look very good! The venue is a little cramped, but it gives the place a more cozy feel. Service was also great. Definitely would check this place out again.

Best Chicken and Ribs Joint in the city. Have been here quite a few times, and leave pretty happy. It doesn't matter what meat you choose - the ribs, the chicken, the pulled pork - it's going to be extremely moist and flavourful. I don't know why anyone would bother going to a franchise shop like Swiss Chalet or Montana's when for the same price you get something very clearly superior that has been slow-cooked to perfection.
Portions are reasonable and service tends to be pretty good. On the downside, their sides are just kind of average. None of them are bad, mind you, but nobody will be talking about the corn bread or fries the way they are about the meat.
Unbelievable ribs!! The chipotle sauce is great on their home sliced fries. Will not go anywhere else for ribs and wings!! The Snicker's pie is a must!

AH-Mazing!!. Had dinner at The Foolish Chicken with my husband and baby last night. I had been there once before with a large crowd and remember it being delicious but I always enjoy a restaurant experience more in an intimate setting. We walked in and it was HOT! Granted its been crazy summer weather all over again this week but the no AC thing is kind of crazy.
The hostess/waitress was very accommodating to our family and let us choose the table where we'd be most comfortable with all of our baby gear.
Service was quick and efficient with a smile and good knowledge of the menu. I ordered the quarter chicken with a half rack of ribs, sweet potato fries, and foolish gravy. My husband ordered the half pound of wings and half rack of ribs with house fries and foolish gravy. Needless to say we happily worked through to the bottom of our plates until everything was gone - including the crumbs. Even the baby loved the chicken! Yum yum!
As full as we were, we couldn't pass up the snickers pie we had seen travel to the table next to us during our meal. My husband said it was the BEST dessert he's ever had! I took one bite and decided there was no way we were sharing it... I ordered my own!
We will definitely back! Great, casual spot for an awesome family meal.

Just had a wonderful dinner with my husband and two children. My husband said the chicken and ribs were his favorite in the city. I had the chicken wrap which was also great.
Dessert was a hit. My husband and son both had the ebony and ivory cheesecake and I shared the brownie with my daughter. Both were delicious. My husband loves his cheesecake and have his rave reviews.

Pretty decent bbq chicken. The bbq sauce was delicious - the chicken was very, very juicy. Enjoyed the chicken a bit better than the ribs, but they were also very good, yummy and fall-off-the-bone good. If you go there, you MUST order the homemade snickers pie with vanilla ice cream - SO GOOD!

You get the goodness you pay for. Very similar to Swiss Chalet, only everything is actually as good as it sounds, plus there's a little more Soul Food influence. Everything we had was excellent, and although the bill was more than a trip to Swiss Chalet or the like, it's definitely in a different class. The family deals seemed like they would be perfect for a group of 3-5.
My sweet potato fries were perfect, and the ribs were stickily (to make an adverb of "sticky") delicious. The service was friendly and unobtrusive. My only minor complaint would be that their iced tea was either bottled -- Brisk or some garbage -- or a poorly executed homemade concoction that tasted like it. Any good Soul Food place needs a solid home-brewed iced tea. Also, their smoky BBQ sauce (I forget the exact name) might have been a little too smoky for some, so you may want to choose one of their other sauce offerings if that's not your favourite flavour.
In conclusion... "I pity the fool who doesn't try their chicken!"

Lovely surprise. What a wonderful time we had eating at The Foolish Chicken!
This is definitely a must for any gluten-free eater - the service was remarkable (the moment I specified I needed to order gluten-free, I was immediately explained all of the gluten-free options their menu offered, and felt immediately reassured).
I share their wonderful gluten-free poutine with my husband: a wonderful peppery gravy, with nice thick cut potatoes and lovely cheese curds. I followed this starter by their equally delicious breaded chicken strips (Yes, gluten-free breading!) with a side of house salad and coleslaw, while my husband ordered the quarter chicken with barbeque baked beans as a side (yes, all gluten free still XD). And to top it all off, a delicious gluten-free brownie.
The prices are fair for the portions (the brownie was about 7$, but it was a big portion, one you'd one to split. The poutine, 10$, but it definitely was a split as well, given that it was meal-sized. Overall, we paid a little under 50$ for our meal, but it was well worth-it: the staff is very kind and patient (I think i asked twice to check if certain items were definitely gluten-free, such as fries and the fryer they used, if the oil was contaminated in any way, if the salad dressing was free of wheat, if.... ha ha - you get the idea. XD
NOTE: the servers did tell us that it was important to mention that we needed gluten-free service, because they can use a different fryer and utensils for preparation of GF foods.
MMMHHH!. Went there for lunch a few weeks ago. Nice little place. I ordered the half rotisserie chicken (all dark) and it was the juiciest chicken I have ever ate. It was excellent! The portion was enormeous. However, the fries were ok. I will go back.
Nothing foolish about this great choice. The chicken and ribs are always incredible. Deserts such as the carrot cake and others are always delicious.
Now, everything (almost) is Gluten Free, including Poutine and deserts!
We have been regulars for years. The décor is not fancy and it can be a little noisy for me because I have a hearing problem. But there are so many upsides, such as friendly owners, Rick especially, and attentive service. It is not a place for really quiet private dining as tables are quite close ... but after a wonderful dinner like that, your date will feel romantic anyway:)
Great place to take friends or a first date. We're going back tonight for our fifth anniversary.

Good food. Good simple food with good service and a decent pricepoint. So nice when the owner checks on you. The food is always good. Not unique, but well done.
Surprisingly good. While I visited for lunch the quality and diversity of menu items was unexpected. My recollection was that the service could improve but the food was pleasant and I look forward to exploring the menu.
Always a Great Expirience. This is one of my favourite spots in the city. Stumbling upon it with a friend a few months back, I have returned several times, and have yet to be disappointed.
Always selecting a different menu item, and of course a dessert (their cheesecakes are out of this world!!), I am constantly reminded of the get service and charm a small restaurant can offer. Their friendly staff are always happy to help and willing to chat. All round a great experience. Looking forward to many more visits :)

Best chicken and ribs in Ottawa!. I've been going to the Foolish Chicken for a few years and it has become one of my favorite restaurants in Ottawa.
The chicken is amazing and completely different than what you would find at Swiss Chalet or St-Hubert. They also make tender and succulent ribs, as well as amazing sweet potato fries. Oh, and did I mention the chipotle sauce? It's out of this world! It's so good that we regularly buy a bottle to take home!
The restaurant also makes delicious cheesecakes, but I rarely get to eat them, as I'm usually stuffed when it's time for dessert!
The Foolish Chicken is a great restaurant for people with Celiac disease and other people who are avoiding gluten, as the menu clearly indicates which items are gluten-free and the staff is knowledgeable about cross-contamination.
I really love everything about this restaurant. It's in a cute little building, the owners are very friendly and the food is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. I highly recommend you try it!
One last thing: the restaurant offers a great deal on meals to go, which makes the food very affordable!
I've eaten at the foolish chicken three times now and I really do enjoy it. The fries are amazing and the chicken and rib sauce is delicious too. I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant.
Had the Dr Pepper Pulled Chicken with sweet potato fries. Excellent...fresh...chicken wasnt dried out. Chipotle Mayo for the fries was delicious. Staff was friendly and very accommodating.
I have gone to the Foolish Chicken for a number of work lunches and I always enjoy myself and leave full and happy. Simple menu, cozy atmosphere, friendly service and comforting food.
Went for lunch. Had the BBQ chicken wrap and I thought it was amazing! It was served with fresh cut fries, coleslaw and a pickle. Service was good. I'll probably go back for the wrap! ;)

I always find myself staring blankly at the menu when I sit down for a meal here because though the food is good and portion sizes are good and the price point is good, despite coming here many times nothing has really impressed me. On my last visit I was at pangs to recommend a single thing from the menu.

The food here is amazing and the owner obviously loves his restaurant and his job. It really shows through.
No foolish chicken this one!. We had a great meal here with the kids. The ribs were to die for and some of the best we have ever had. Kids very happy with their chicken strippers. We all enjoyed the onion rings. The service was attentive. The children were kept busy with crayons and colouring sheets between courses. The pecan cheesecake was yum. Portion was very generous so ask for two spoons and get digging!! Ambiance was nice and trendy.
Good chicken and ribs. They aren't the best chicken and ribs but they are good. I enjoyed my quarter chicken and half rack of ribs with a side salad. The serving size was perfect. Their cheesecake sounded good too but I had to pop over to Truffle Treasures for my gelato fix instead :-P
LOVE the bbq wrap. I just love the Foolish Chicken. It was recommended to me by a neighbour and I'm so happy they mentioned it! My favourite item is the bbq chicken wrap, which is a great smokey bbq sauce on the chicken. I thought it was great. My husband is a big fan of the Dr. Pepper bbq sauce and we have both always enjoyed our meals. The homemade snicker pie is to die for.. I can't wait to try the cheesecakes.

I'm in heaven!. This is, without doubt, the best barbecued chicken I have ever had. Anywhere. The chicken legs are crispy-skinned, moist and oh-so-tasty - absolutely divine! I am normally one of those people who don't eat the chicken skin, but here, I can't resist. And these legs are pretty big, not like the seemingly smaller and smaller fowl that the ol' Chalet seems to be slinging these days....just sayin...
I love their sweet potato fries - they are positively addictive. Add a bit of that Cajun mayo they provide, and you're in business. And then there's the Caesar salad (very good, very fresh lettuce, real (!) bacon bits, homemade dressing), the wee cornmeal biscuit, a spoonful of coleslaw and little dishes of home-made dipping sauce. The meal is complete.
One last but very important thing - all the desserts are home-made too, definitely not ordered frozen en masse from some supply chain of dubious origin like too many places these days... There's usually a few cheesecakes to chose from (like pinjeapple, amaretto, chocolate...), a few staples like the ginger cake with rum sauce and the warm brownie with ice cream, plus various other cakes, pies and treats that rotate from day-to-day. You must have dessert - even if, like me, you're usually too stuffed for dessert after such a great meal, do yourself a favour and bring one home with you to have for breakfast the next day. Hey, it works for me!

Great Place to eat!. My wife and I like to try new (to us) restaurants, however time and time again we find are way back to the Foolish Chicken. The reason are simple: the food and service is Great! The desserts are awesome!

Order for Pick Up: Dr. Pepper Chicken Sandwich and half dark meat chicken meal. Good food. Bun was burnt. A whole pickle spear would be nice as would more coleslaw. BBQ sauce is tasty as is the gravy. Overall a very good meal. Will visit again.

Our friend needs to eat gluten free and they were visiting from out of town. We realized at that point we do not have many places that offer a great variety of gluten free options. Well look no further. They use a separate fryer for their gluten free menu. Ribs, wings, fries, poutine. Not just salad. Our friend was so excited that they ended up ordering more food the next day for there drive back home lol

Cheesecake delight! We ordered a white chocolate cranberry cheesecake for takeout/delivery. Oh my, was that ever good! The cake was put together with a very careful eye for detail, and one of the best I've ever tasted. Add to this the professionalism of the communications throughout the order (they asked what time we wanted it delivered, they confirmed after they had delivered it, and they sent photos of the cake). Start to finish, a lovely experience. We'll be back again.
Good portions of tasty chicken and ribs! I feel like I can say I had a satisfying meal. It's a great little spot to grab a bite. The staff is friendly as well. Save room for desert... Some tasty cheese cakes to be had.
Absolutely delicious and family friendly to boot! Dessert was absolutely divine and made in house! BBQ chicken (amazing sauce), beef chili soup (perfectly balanced between think and thin), corn bread (sweet but not too sweet and whole pieces of corn too!), snicker pie (yummy, but I think I would've loved it more if the peanuts were smaller), chocolate brownie (because who doesn't enjoy brownies with ice cream?) and coconut rice pudding (surprisingly light and perfect for the summer).

They have a seperate fryer for gluten free orders and the chicken fingers were really good with fries. But make sure to leave room for gluten free cheesecake that will blow your mind. Also great atmosphere, service, and location. Will 100% come again.
