Review Wilf & Ada's - Ottawa

I loved this place. It opens 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. We had lunch last time and I came back with my friend to have a breakfast. Waiter was so lovely and helpful. The breakfast he helped us choose was amazing đŸ€© I am definitely coming back again and I highly recommend it 😍

Arrive hungry. This place is not messing around. This was delicious. I want to try so many things here. I will be back. Great value for great food. My stomach was not prepared for all this food. The stand out here is the service. We had a server (John)and he made us feel so taken care of and that we were his new best friends. Honestly this server could give a masterclass on service. The whole team at the ESD never leaves you wanting anything. Refills on water and coffee show up right on time without asking. Just an incredible experience. Worth the trip and worth every cent.

Elgin Street Diner. What can I add about this beautiful gem! It's located Downtown on Elgin Street with bright lights on the outside and cozy set up on the inside. This diner is always buzzing with family, college kids, and seniors. They have ample seating, free wifi and it's open 24/7. No matter what time you go there the food is always fresh and staff is always friendly. I've had their burger, triple layer sandwich, 3 cheese omelette, and hot chocolate. Their side of fries is a whole meal in itself! Side of beans and baked potato is just so so good.. They also have a counter of homemade cakes which is really moist and heavenly. Totally recommend this place. Value for money- 5/5 Portion- 5/5 Hospitality- 5/5 Food- 5/5

Family feel and customer service is top notch!! The friendliness from being sat down, during the meal and paying the bill. I highly recommend this diner. I finished my pancakes, it was so fluffy and delicious. Pay them a visit whenever your in the area, it’s just a 5 mins walk from the Canadian Museum of Nature and many consulate offices.

Food was amazing, prices were great. Staff were all cheerful, helpful and happy. Owner was there running the show flawlessly. Can't wait to come back.

If you’re hungry, this place has awesome proportions. This is the best poutine breakfast you will ever try. A real Canadian dinerđŸ˜ŽđŸ‡šđŸ‡ŠđŸđŸ€€đŸ€€đŸ€€

Amazing service and delicious food! They were packed but the servers were courteous asking us to wait. Got the Chilli Beef Poutine with extra Cheese Curds and the Smoked Meat Poutine. Also got the Pineapple and Peach Milk Shakes. Super happy and this spot opens 24/7 Definitely recommended.

Solid! We arrived late into Ottawa and this was one of the places that were open. It did not disappoint. Had a steady flow of customers around 1am. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was great! The gravy matched perfectly with the fries. Portions were generous. I say this is a must if in Ottawa!

Easily the best eggs benedict in Ottawa...and beyond! Great coffee, great vibe and top notch customer service. I'd rate Wilf & Ada's with 10 stars,if that were an option.
Christine Louise Small
Great place that had an amazing tofu scramble available... Hard to find a good vegan breakfast at an omni restaurant. All the staff were super friendly and genuine. Also hard to find! Only downfall is the long wait while others enjoy their food!
Jenn Marie
The food was fresh and love that it is locally sourced! The staff was down to earth and very friendly - a place we would go daily if we lived in Canada. Highly recommended:)

Fabulous service, the food is remarkable. Highly recommend this place. Saw the episode of you got to eat here and just had to try it,,,did not disappoint at all

We we're greeted by the fantastic smell of house smoked bacon and smiling faces of a great staff. Even though we were a party of 8, they were accommodating and sat us quickly. We had been on the road for over a month stopping in numerous cafes from California to Québec and this was hands down the best breakfast and BEST bacon in the world. The coffee was pretty good too. Order the Eggs in Purgatory with a side of bacon!

My favourite breakfast/brunch place in Ottawa. Love their food and friendly staff! Definitely recommend the Eggs in Purgatory.

Excellent meal. Took a little long to get a table but thankfully there’s a coffee shop right next door where you can wait. And the food was well worth the wait.

This place is great. Tried it for the first time yesterday and they covered our bill because the server forgot our drinks a couple of times. Unnecessary, but so, so nice & appreciated. Our hostess was also very sweet, and I love that ketchup/milk/sugar are all served in reusable containers. I will definitely be coming back :)

Wow my favourite place ever!!! The granola is out of this world. Love that it's all fresh and homemade and the people are lovely too. It's a must xx

Just had the delicious French toast shown above - Perfectly cooked and topped with a deep red tart fruit compote, fresh whipped cream, local maple syrup and in-house smoky crisp bacon... and a big glass of cold fresh squeezed orange juice. What could be better on a sunny Spring day!

Amazing food and staff! Eggs in purgatory is a must! If there is a wait for you table, be patient! It's worth it!
Maria Khan
Absolutely amazing food. A few things to remember : 1) there was a 15-20 mins wait on a Tuesday morning ( 11:30am) 2) very dining dining space but comfortable and cozy. We were seated on a high table next to the kitchen window - not too bad but a lower table / window seat would've preferable next time. Not accessible to families with very young children , strollers or peeps with wheelchairs. 3) the food is amazing , coffee is fantastic and hot. 4) service is quick and excellent 5) don't miss out and go today !!

Go early or be prepared to wait . . .ans it isn so worth the wait. Eggs in Purgatory. Highly recommend. One day I will branch out and get something else, but not yet ;)

This place does everything right. Service, decor, food, coffee. All top notch

I’ve lived in Ottawa my whole life and just went to this place now, and I’m upset I haven’t been sooner because it is so damn good. Delicious food, excellent service, will def be back.
Jamaal
Had French Toast for breakfast there this morning. Food was delicious but I found the portions on the smaller side. Even with the expensive $20 “Hungryman” breakfast, they still only give 2 eggs with it... 😑

I came here on a Saturday for brunch and the place was packed, which was expected. All you have to do is put your number down and go for a coffee around the corner. Our wait time was about 30 minutes. Service was friendly and the staff gave great recommendations! The food is delicious, maybe not quite as filling as other brunch places but I think it's still good value. Love the atmosphere and the warm and welcoming decor. No wonder why this place is always packed!

Wilf and ada's is a delightful establishment offering great breakfast items. However, over the past few years their service has drastically decreased. In the past, we could call ahead and they would text us when the table is ready - much appreciated. Now you have to arrive in person, to be put on the waitlist. This is completely inefficient. I called yesterday and was told there was a 30min waitlist. I arrived 10 mins later and was told the waitlist is now a hour. Unacceptable.

Please review your reservation policy and either adopt a common app. e.g., no wait, or open table to reduce wasting people's time. Otherwise, I will no longer be visiting your establishment.
Michel
On a Tuesday morning they ran out of breakfast special oops we order from the menu And our plate was serve cold not good. The lettuce was not fresh ,No brown bread, the only good plate was eggs Benedict And the menu is over price.

Wilf and Ada's is definitely the best place to get brunch if you're in this area. However, it's not that impressive. The menu is pretty limited, and a couple of times I've had the soup of the day its been just plain bad. Also, it is *not* kid friendly. This place completely mostly caters to the university crowd and they always give me the cold shoulder when I come in with my 2 year old son. I have to keep flagging the server down for beverage refills or sauces, but they're more attentive to their other tables. Once I asked if they had a change table and the waitress looked at me sort of horrified, laughed it off and said "and its super small in there, you can't change him here." Its also a bit overpriced for what you're getting. Overall, its not really that great and I don't think its worth the (usually) hour long+ wait.

On my first visit one week ago, I was blown away.
Excellent service and excellent food! I had the dagwood, my brother had eggs benny (one of the takes) and the the food was absolutely delicious. Every component added to the flavour to deliver perfect execution.
Nothing exceptional but nothing bad either. I ordered the side poutine which was more of a meal for two so that was well priced at 8.50$. The food came in a reasonable amount of time too.

Like the ambiance and decor.

4.5 for food and 2.0 for cost and wait times and space ...
This is a very very small place with about 6 tables ? Very crowded tables close to each other. I think the locals must all know each other judging from the conversations around us. We went during a weekday at around 10:00 am and waited for about 15 min in their cafe next door.
The food was indeed excellent though not all that generous. Two of us ordered the simple menu of eggs and potatoes and toast. (7:00$) The eggs were done to perfection as were the home roasted potatoes. ( or were they fried?) each of us got only one slice of toast. No butter. I didn't know you have to ask for it separately. But finally we did and they brought it along. So it was sitting in the top of the cold toast. Coffee was very good but extra cost. Not on the menu. They served a very nice probably home made marmalade also! The orange juice was lovely but it cost 4.00$ for a smallish glass. Another friend ordered French toast and tea . He said it was also very nicely done. We paid around 55$ for the three breakfasts including tip.
I guess I expected the old Wilf and Ada where the costs were more reasonable and Wilf called you by name. It is now a trendy cafe.

I applaud the new owners and recognize the excellence of the locally grown or baked etc food but is there anywhere in the city a small local cafe where the costs are reasonable and you can just drop over for a quick bite?

Very delicious food! Definitely recommend. The staff were friendly and the ambiance is busy but nice. Fairly priced food for the quality you get.

Possibly the best breakfast in Ottawa. The first time I went to check this out with a friend and there was a 45 minute wait, so we didn't wait. I was skeptical that it would be worth it. But I can admit when I am wrong. I had poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce and my husband had the hungry man. I also had a strawberry banana smoothie, everything was delectable, from the homefries to the French toast. Even the beans had hints of smoked bacon that tasted like home cured bacon. The service was friendly and attentive without being fake and overbearing. They also offer some interesting sounding alcoholic options which I can't wait to try on my next trip! You can taste the local ingredients and the focus on quality. No wonder everyone is lining up!

Went here for breakfast with some friends. We had to wait 20 minutes but the staff told us we could head over to Arlington 5 and bring our coffees in when a table was ready. The interior was definitely cozy, and there were interesting paintings lining the walls. I got the eggs in purgatory, which is similar to shakshuka eggs, as well as a side of French toast. The food was very delicious and filling. The tomato sauce with the eggs was spicy enough to add heat but not overwhelming. Would go back.

One word for this place :- Awesome ....
I had to wait to get a table but let me tell you one thing that its well worth the wait.
Best 30 bucks spent whole week.
Well presented , tasty , yummy breakfast.
I tried 4 5 items everything is awesome.

Stopped in here ok a whim on a Saturday morning walk, and didn't know if we would get a table. Lucky for us we walk right in without a wait! The coffee was hot and continually refilled, and the service excellent. Between the 3 of us we ordered: the classic breakfast with sausage, eggs in purgatory, and blackstone Benedict. All arrived relatively promptly for how busy the restaurant was - in my opinion a sign of a great restaurant!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The eggs in purgatory were spicy hot, but not too much - just delicious! This breakfast felt like an Italian breakfast. The classic breakfast came with baked beans which had a delicious smoke to them and great sausages. The Benedict was tasty, although the other two dishes were preferred. Overall an excellent meal and well deserving of all the hype that surrounds this sweet little joint! Excellent! We will certainly return, soon!

Went there a few Sundays ago. Was early but it was full, nice thing is they sent us out back to a little coffee shop they run so we could wait. The tables are packed tight and the menu is short (good thing). I had the poached eggs and asked for some hot sauce. I wish the sauce had been less vinegary. My buddy had the eggs in purgatory and it was decent but not as memorable as the name. If you are downtown with limited transportation this is a great place. If you have a car there are a few less expensive places with plates that are more well rounded plates (veg in addition to what you get at Wilf's).

My friend and I went for my birthday and it was amazing. The service was great. The food was amazing. I liked that they had a many options so that we could try a little bit of everything. Would definitely go back!

Super busy on weekends but sooooo worth the wait. Best brunch in the city. I had the Eggs Florentine and my friend had the eggs Benny... we were both very happy with our meals.

Great place for brunch in Ottawa! Very fresh and seasonal items on the menu. Clean and simple flavours in a good way, nothing overcomplicated, making all of the dishes stand out! Gets extremely packed on the weekends, so prepare to wait.

Went around 8.30 on a Sat. To start, the coffee was awesome and made local. I had the special, a variation of eggs florentine and my dad had the regular breakfast. Hollandaise was fresh and lemony, homefries crispy. My dad loved his breakfast. Service with Scott was fantastic. Will come again.

Wilf and Ada's is sort of a "go-to" place for a good classic breakfast. I always get their hungry man breakfast as it is sided with a nice dessert type French toast but this time it seemed to be a bit smaller than usual. Also the double long I ordered had no crema and was basically just a black coffee. The service is always friendly and helpful, food is always decent so I won't let the last visit interfere with a consistently good brunch
Val T
Absolutely loved this little restaurant!!!! The front hostess was a bit rude and the waitress took a little long during her service BUT the food...the food is incredible. Super unique and homemade, deliciously good. They even have homemade peanut butter, which was amazing!!!!
Adham El Shazly
Delicious breakfast. Got the Blackstone and dirty chai latte, which were really good. It's more about the hipster cool vibe at Wild & Ada's than the food. Also, excellent and fast service. Can have breakfast there every weekend!

Been here three times now and I loved it every time. Service is fantastic and food is top notch. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The first time I came here I got eggs in purgatory -so good. My friend got the dagwood sandwich and it was a big portion and was delicious. The one thing you must get is the peanut butter to go with your toast !!! It's very good and perfectly sweetened.
Louis Bourgeau
Went for breakfast (2 of us) Had basic breakfast, Home fries are deep fried not grilled, Toast you get 1 slice not 2, Toast not buttered, Coffee not included ($2.50) Presentation was good but simple, Service was very good, But not worth $30.00 plus tip for 2 simple eggs, Bacon ,Home fries, 1 toast and coffee.
Meagan Graham
Consistently amazing! Great service and food. By far the best breakfast in the city. The peanut butter is to die for. I would recommend this to anyone.
Generically Honest
Very good breakfast. The place was super packed when I went and had to wait in line for a bit. Our waitress was very friendly. Their menu isn't super large for breakfast options but each one is different and unique. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming to first timers. Would definetly recommend trying out if you haven't been here before!
Alina Dixon
Great little trendy breakfast spot! I had the french toast made from their in-house baked bread! It was delicious however the break got soggy quite quickly so I would recommend getting the toppings on the side. The service was fast and friendly making it a great way to start the weekend!
Matthew Garvey
The breakfast is amazing! I had an eggs Benny with bacon and it was fantastic. The service was friendly and fast, even though it was quite busy. Have already recommended the restaurant to a bunch of people!

Great Brunch place! Food was great, arrived promptly, perfect temperature. Service was impeccable as well. You might hit a bit of a line up/wait to get in, but it is certainly worth it!

I went on a double date To Wilf & Ada's on a snowy Sunday morning. Having never been to Wilf & Ada's before and remembering it as Ada's Diner, it was interesting to see how the decor and menu were revamped. We arrived without reservations on a busy Sunday morning (amateurs) but we were put on a wait list and told we would get a text when our table was ready. This was helpful since the space is quite small and there isn't really a spot to wait.

Only twenty minutes later we were seated. I opted for the breakfast special of the day which were Breakfast Nachos. Yes, there is such a thing and yes they were delicious.

The service was quick and our server was friendly. Although they were busy we didn't feel rushed and I enjoyed the atmosphere.

I ordered their Hungryman breakfast ($15). Scrambled eggs with chives were a nice touch. The eggs were light and fluffy but almost had a slightly liquidy texture, maybe a touch undercooked. Toast was tiny and no butter, but the peanut butter was good and probably home made. Instead of homefries they were able to give me some lettuce with a lemon vinaigrette which was tasty. Bacon was good, but if you don't like it a little undercooked, ask for crispy. The coffee was decent. Nothing to rave about, but it was good enough.

The french toast came with whipped cream, maple syrup and a fruit compote. The compote was a little bitter, but balanced out nicely with the syrup. Pretty good overall. And the portions did certainly leave me full.

On service, the food came fast, but nobody came to ask how it was or check if I needed anything. I had to ask for a coffee refill when my bill came because nobody had come around or offered.

The food was good, worth a visit for sure, but I'm not sure I'll be back personally.

If I could marry the eggs in purgatory I would. And then probably still secretly meet up with the French toast because who can resist?? Seriously delicious, great staff, great atmosphere.
Mallory
Easily the best brunch, in addition to the lieutenants pump, I've had in Ottawa.
Two Hungry Piglets
Not sure who Wilf or Ada is but I think I want to be their friend, or at least eat at their place all of the time. Haven’t been disappointed yet and have a feeling that will remain constant. Haven’t tried their wings before but remember someone, don’t know who, raving about them. Gotta remember to give them wings a try next time
And piggy readers, this place is worth the line up. Just put your name on the list, relax, go to the nearby LCBO to pick up some booze or Starbucks for a pre-brunch coffee and when they call, get excited cuz the food is GOOD. Bon appetite!
Depellegrincarina
Always Great. The Blackstone Eggs Bennie was delicious as usual and the homefried potatoes are the best in town. Love them...
Kxs362
Baked Beans?. Lovely staff and great place to eat, but baked beans with breakfast?

Maybe as an option? Maybe not at all? Maybe it is me, but I think they are gross and always taste like something out of a can; if you are going to have beans with breakfast I suggest refried pinto beans.

Also, the "hash browns", while nicely flavored are really fried potato cubes; it is a helluva thing when Denny's serves better. Good bread. Good bacon. Good eggs. These things being good seems normal, but it is surprising how many places ruin the basics. Wilf & Ada don't, but I am not inclined to spend $15 for something I can prepare better myself at home.

Call me cheap or unreasonable, but I think it is the sides that make breakfast and in this I W&A are very unsatisfying.
John M
First time visitor and loved the vibe, service and had the BEST Americano in a long time! This has become my new go to breakfast place.
Adam.callum.mackenzie
Worst breakfast diner on Earth?. A breakfast place that doesn't carry sausages or ham for its breakfast specials? Yes, it exists. I understand that giving customers the choice of meats might add 0.25c to the cost of a meal, but if you're charging $11 for a basic breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, beans, "homeys" because they want to write "home fries" in a cutesy way) you can afford to offer sausages like every other breakfast place on this continent. I can't remember but I think coffee is an additional cost after the $11 bucks.

And that brings us to the price: $11 for a basic breakfast, a breakfast which would be around $5.50 at Bobby's Table, Vanier Grill, Eddy's Diner, or any other place in Ottawa. Would you pay a %100 Stupidity Tax on your breakfast? Neither would I, so I won't pay $11; I walked out. I did pay for my glass of juice: $5.25+tax. The "Hungry Breakfast" is $15 which you might expect would come with three varieties of meat, except that Aida's only stocks bacon. Instead it comes with more potatoes (the cheapest grocery in the store) and a bit of fruit.

The rest of the menu glares at you with lack: no eggs benedict, no waffles, no pancakes, no sausages/ham (again). The reviewer who said that this "menu has something for everybody" is obviously a paid shill.

And the place is packed out with urbanite hipsters who think that paying more for their food puts them into a better class of people. I'd rather pay $5.50 and give the other $5.50 to charity than to these greedy owners. I wonder if they pay their servers a living wage with the overpriced breakfasts? Probably not.

A sweet gem!. My little family (my husband and two babies) came to Wilf & Ada's for the second time today. I didn't think it would be possible, but it was even better the second time. For those who have never been, rather than making you wait around they text you. This is so great as you can wander centre town while you wait ( they are open all week, but expect to wait on Saturdays and Sundays). After a very small slip up with this system we were seated within 10 min. We weren't upset, accidents happen, but the owner gave us a credit for our next visit anyway.

All the food is made from scratch and delicious! Their drink selection would impress brunchers and barflies alike. As well the service is above and beyond. They;re even great with kids.

One of the servers shared with us that they compost everything people leave on their plates and coffee grounds( something the owner has to pay the city to do) and other things like peels are given to local farmers for their pigs. The straws are made of paper and of course they recycle. They even reuse the bag they're delicious Happy Goat coffee is delivered in. These little eco touches make my environmentalist's heart flutter and makes me love them even more.

Don't walk, run to this amazing little gem of place, you won't be disappointed!

Nothing so special. Cozy place but food was taste less and expensive

Great brunch spot! We are .... Great brunch spot!
We are from Toronto but the last two times we visited Ottawa we had brunch here. Great staff and delicious food!
Laurie Gail
Gold Star. I have now been at least 5 times and every single visit is as good as my first ... their Eggs Florentine is heaven, made with feta cheese and olive tapenade ... their home fries are perfection and remind me of my dad's ... they have the best Sugar Pie in town, so be sure to save room for it ... and they get 2 BIG thumbs up for the cute paper straws they use ... they are a very nice touch, especially as they are more for environmental reasons then cool factor ... you guys get a GOLD STAR !
City Tastings
HOW RUDE!! we called in one Saturday morning to do a take out order cause we have a 12 month old who is very active and it's just easier to feed her at home. They answered the phone say "they are too busy" to do take out orders. That's fine if you don't want my business we will go else where!!

All about the Eggs in Purgatory. So delicious! Loved this breakfast and the place! Will definitely be back next weekend.
Jamr_66
Breakfast at Wilf & Ada's. Went there today for the first time, quite small, quite busy, and VERY noisy. Had the classic breakfast which was average at best. Small portion, over priced. Oh, and ask for a gallon of water, they might as well have served me a cattle salt lick, it was that salty. Not sure what all the raving is about this place, and by the way the best breakfast in Ottawa is still Baker Street in Westboro, far superior than W & A's. I won't be back.
Kgiff7
A breakie you can count on...every time!. I was there the first day Wilf n Ada's opened for breakfast and have consistently been there every week, at least once! Why? Because I can count on an absolutely delish meal every single visit! Simple:)
I have also had very friendly and more than efficient service every single time! Thank you Jessie, Dom and your wonderful staff for everything you do to be the best damn scratch diner in town!
BTW because they are so great, it's not uncommon for there to be a line up to get in...they'll send you a text when your table is ready...how about that for considerate, over-the-top service?!
Love it!
Sin99pokey
Should of ate at home instead. We had the Eggs Blackstone ... the potatos weren't cooked, the bacon was hard and tasteless, and for bacon I would never usually complain as I love bacon, and instead of a nice slice of tomatoe on the english muffin there was a mushy salsa with again, no flavor. There was no fruit, no garnish at all on the plate. We also ordered two Bloody Mary's as we were celebrating and they came as a yellow/green drink that tasted aweful, so much so my partner couldn't even drink his and sent it back. I really don't know what all the hype is about! We wasted $60 of hard earned money!!! We will never go back!!!
Crafternoon
By far the best breakfast in Ottawa! I had the Classic Breakfast and everything was excellent. The portions were very generous. The service was great, despite it being quite busy when we arrived. I will definitely be back.
Jonlmx31
Had the classic breakfast....eggs and beans were great...bacon seemed as though it was cooked earlier that day and the service wasn't the greatest.

Not a spot for a simple breakfast.

Jon

Very Disappointing Breakfast. My friend and I were longtime customer’s of the original Ada’s and we decided to try out the “new” restaurant. This past Saturday morning, we had breakfast there and did not enjoy the experience.

Although there were only about 10-12 customers seated, our simple identical eggs & toast breakfasts took an unusually long time (perhaps 20+ minutes), which did not seem to make sense, especially since serving breakfast is their specialty. It was disappointing and frustrating.

When our simple eggs & toast & homefries meals came to our table, we were surprised to see that it came with only 1 slice of toast instead of the standard 2 slices, which seemed rather “stingy”.

The toast was not buttered, which could be fine, BUT there was no butter on the side or even OFFERED either when we ordered or when the meals were delivered to us.

When the meals were delivered, the server pointed out that we had hot sauce at our table as if that would be a standard condiment we might expect or want, but did not have or offer any other condiment....such as jam, which is typical to have with toast, and nor was any ketchup on the table or offered. Rather odd for a restaurant specializing in breakfast!

More surprising was when I asked our server for some jam, instead of quickly saying, “sure yes” she seemed surprised and repeated, “jam” Then my friend said “yes we’d like jam” and it seemed a relatively onerous task to communicate something that usually doesn’t even need to be talked about - -JAM with one’s eggs & toast.

When this server brought the jam, she brought us only one single side “thimble” of jam instead of two – i.e., one for me and another for my friend, and the little metal “thimble” was less than half full -- barely enough to cover one piece of toast! Again, this seemed stingy and odd, especially since the jam was clearly an inexpensive “bulk” jam.

After we asked for jam, the server did not even think to offer butter (which should be a natural combination and thought for a server) or bring us any with the jam. At this point, we were very hungry and already frustrated with the service and the food, so didn’t ask. As I ate, I noticed that one of the other servers was eating her own breakfast at one of the tables near the back of the restaurant and I saw her get up and scoop out some butter for herself using a knife, from a container on the high counter where I could see there was large glass jar of jam, etc. So, I knew there was butter, and could not think why we had not been offered butter.

Similarly, 1/2 a stainless steel 'thimble' of ketchup was brought for two people. Really?

The “homefries” were actually just deep fried potato cubes, and without ketchup, they were tasteless.

The scrambled eggs were too “wet” and slimy – and the portion seemed to be less than 2 eggs. They certainly were not large eggs!

When we ordered, we asked that the beans be left out. We did not think of asking for any substitute (e.g., additional home fries) nor was it offered. In retrospect, had we known that they only give one slice of toast, we would have requested a second piece of toast in lieu of the beans that we were not having.
Our server did not return to us at all after delivering the jam, to ask if we needed more coffee or ask if we needed anything else.
For all of this, we found the price of $9 to be unreasonable, not to mention it did NOT even include our tea! That was an extra $2.50. Every other restaurant includes coffee or tea.

The portions are stingy, with 1 piece of dry toast and wet eggs. This meal was NOT a good value for the money.

We will never return, and recommend you go elsewhere too.

Wilf I get served?. Service wasn't great and food was lack luster...not sure why it's gotten so many accolades?
Mike S
Service is unreliabley slow. The most unfortunate thing is the owner and staff have no respect for there clients.
Laura Ospina
AMAZING! So far the best breakfast we have had in Ottawa. Excellent service, excellent food :)
Ada Pally
Simple, delicious and fills up the soul.
Janina
Definitely try the eggs florentine! The hollandaise sauce, feta and olive (what was that olive stuff?) were an intense flavour combo that had me distracted from my company (sorry Chris). The service was lovely, the atmosphere cozy and we really enjoyed their playlist (Prince upon arrival!). I'll be back often.
BrittneyY
Really tasty breakfast. Started with the Bloody Mary which uses their house made Bloody Mary mix. Best Bloody Mary I've ever had! Had the eggs in purgatory for breakfast. Tomatoes, arugula, cheese, perfectly cooked eggs...delicious! They also had yummy homemade peanut butter, marmalade and hot sauce. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighbourhood.

Very Enjoyable Experience. We stopped by for lunch on Sunday and they were closed due to electrical issues. I was very disappointed because that was to be our first visit. We had a granola bar and vowed to go back. As fate had it, today was the day. Stopped by at 11, love the menu board, room is warm and loud but very friendly. Similar to 613. Our coffee was fantastic. We sat in the aisle to the kitchen. I was amazed at how much was going on in the kitchen, Mayo being made from scratch, bacon being stacked, butter being cubed, potatoes being pressed into fries, cooks spinning webs of magical plates.Service was fantastic, food was very good. I will go back. Bread was not buttered as mentioned in another post. We asked for butter and the peanut butter they make is good, very good. We will go back, give it a try. Be open minded.

Delicious. Super impressed with this place. The vibe was awesome, super cozy, just that right amount of loud to make you feel like your conversation is still private even if the table next to you is only two feet away. Very clean inside. Decor was just right for a breakfast scratch diner. The girl who took our name for the waiting list at the door was super friendly and despite the fact that there was a wait she had this awesome vibe that really made us excited to get in. The service was spot on - prompt, friendly, professional, courteous.

But the food was the hero for sure. One of the 2 or 3 best eggs bennie I've had in this city. Actually the plate's presentation and the flavor reminded me a lot of one of my favorite places - Fraser Cafe. Eggs were cooked beautifully. Hollandaise was rocking. Muffin was delicious and the tomato and bacon were so cohesive to the dish it just all felt right when you got that master bite. Portions were quite big, prices were more than fair and it was an awesome experience.

Will for sure be back to see what kind of consistency they can accomplish.

Yummy. Used to go to the old Ada's diner for the friendly neighborhood feel and a regular breakfast. Have now been to the new Wilf and Ada's diner twice, and love the new menu.

I've had the eggs poached in tomatoes twice now and it is very delicious. So much so, I don't want to try the rest of the menu, but I've seen the French toast go by and it looks really good.

I highly recommend that if the home-made baked beans don't come with your meal, you order a small side of them. The chef makes them from scratch, and they are very, very tasty.

Staff is very friendly, and a cozy place for a breakfast meeting of 2 - 4 people.

Great breakfast place. They have really good homemade hot sauce that is definitely worth coming back for. The bacon needs to be more cooked but overall great place! Sat beside the kitchen so got to see all the yummy items!

Disapointing breakfast. I had the ckassic breakfast which was average at best. They gave us bread with no butter on the toast or condiments at the table. My bacon was rare but it was smoked which gave it some flavour but should of been grilled a little longer. It took them 45minutes to serve a simple breakfast. Very disapointing and very odd that they serve toast with no butter and the server never came around to ask if we need anything else. It was a monday which was quite busy but the service was bad. The food had little taste.

Great little spot. The decor is comfortable and service is fantastic.

Had the hungry mans breakfast and friend had the French Toast (which also comes in the hungry man). Everything we great.

The one thing I would suggest is have a ham option for meat. Understand they smoke their own bacon but weird that such a breakfast staple is missing at a breakfast spot.

All around great spot.

Fantastic Food... even if you're gluten free!. I went to dinner here with some friends a few weeks ago on their opening weekend. I was impressed, as a celiac, that the waitress immediately brought out a menu with "gf" next to almost every item on the menu, demonstrating which dishes were naturally gluten free. Tried a few diff foods and drinks with my friends... The roasted chicken was fantastic and the pickled cherry fizz might be my favourite drink ever made. I will definitely go back again.
Breakfast Diner
Great breakfast. I was a 20-year Ada's regular, and will always miss having a place to go where she knows my order. The new Wilf & Ada's is not comparable. More of a bistro than a diner, with original menu items, gentrified decor, and attentive service. May be cleaner, more stylish and all items made from scratch, but it ain't "home" made. We miss you Ada and Wilf!

Meh.. I checked out the new Wilf & Ada’s. The place looks and smells great. One thing about the old place that kind of grossed me out was that in the when the heat/AC came on, the place smelled like old basement. Not a great way to keep an appetite and it kept me from going on occasion.

The place looks hip, clean and chic. The menu is short and to the point. The staff is friendly and a lot younger. We had breakfast and decided to try their classic and the eggs Benedict. Overall the food was pretty average for the price and nothing really stood out. I wasn’t a big fan of their home fries. They seemed a little over done. My partner felt that her plate was little overpriced for the portion size and noted that the bacon was fattier than she expected. The bacon also lacked a bit of flavour which is unusual considering it’s BACON! I think it has more to do with the style of bacon which I think is local. Bearbrook farms has some awesome local bacon made on premises if you can get out to the Russell area. After trying Bearbrooks bacon, I could never buy store bought. It costs a little more, but it’s a world of difference.

Paying over $30 with tip and only one coffee seemed a bit much, but I guess you’re paying for the dĂ©cor and novelty. I might be back, but for now I’ll save about $10 and have the same breakfast elsewhere.

Yummy neighbourhood gem!. I have been watching this place for a few weeks and finally had the chance to try it out. Tiny but worth the squeeze from all perspectives. Fantastic, friendly, enthusiastic staff...delicious homemade food...great mix of classic breakfast and unique twists. Never felt a moment of being rushed even though we lingered way longer that we should have....because the coffee was sooo good and kept flowing, of course. Try it out...support it as it grows...I can only imagine what their future aspirations of dinner service will being to this up and coming 'hood. Kudos, Ion, for another success!

Beautiful Dining Experience. Not surprised to have had such a wonderful experience at Wilf & Ada's. Ion Aimers has stayed true to the nostalgic memories that was Ada's Diner but infused a "home" like charm to the small corner diner. The staff were friendly and courteous and seemed to possess a passion for food and the overall dining experience. Food was unique and delicious. I'll be making this the spot for any breakfast or lunch meeting!

Enjoyed a fantastic lunch at the new Wilf & Ada's today! Staff, service, ambience and, most importantly, the food were all outstanding! Can't wait to go back and try their breakfast!

Delicious food and great new vibe!. Decided to try the new Wilf and Ada's Saturday around lunch and it was packed.... for good reason! Just revamped by Ottawa restaurateur Ion Aimers, Wilf and Ada's offers a great vibe, with its funky, more upscale decor and really attentive, friendly service. The food was also pretty fantastic, with interesting options available for breakfast and lunch. The Blackstone eggs Benedict was delicious with a roasted tomato and bacon under the yummy hollandaise. We were offered homemade peanut butter and marmalade with the breakfast special, and real maple syrup with the mountain of french toast. Nice touches from the talented chef... Everyone with me enjoyed their respective breakfasts and the great new ambiance.

Enjoyable breakfast and service. Tried out the new Wilf and Ada's. We both had the Eggs in Purgatory which were delicious. The service was fantastic and I like that the new owner kept just the right amount of the old Ada's ( a neighbourhood institution). Visited during the week before work and there was no wait. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Set Your Phasers to Delicious. I've been to Adas a few times and I always enjoyed the food, service, decor, and vibe. Since learning that Ada and Wilf had retired and restaurant entrepreneur Aon Aimer took over (creative genius behind the works/zazaza) I was naturally interested to see his revamp. I was not disappointed.

I ventured this Saturday morning through the freezing rain to tantalize my taste buds. When we arrived there was line out the door and the place was jamn packed, "yay." I repeated to myself, "good things come to those who wait." And boy was this ever true.

When we were seated I was able to fully take in my surroundings. The decor has a cozy vibe with a touch of hipster. There's an exposed brick wall giving it a rustic feel, a chalk board displaying the menu, an open concept kitchen, nice lighting, and hard wood floors. The service is also just as friendly and warm - as we were greeted by warm and attentive staff

After looking at the chalkboard I decided on the "eggs in purgatory." It's served up in a skillet - two eggs simmered in a sweet, tomato, spicy, salsa concoction of sorts, over arugula with a helping of out-of-this-world potatoes and sourdough bread. It was AMAZING. I've always been one to eat my eggs with toast - stacking the eggs, sauce, arugula, cheese - into one full-filling bite. Sooo goood....

In conclusion the revamp of Ada's did not disappoint. In fact it exceeded my expectations. Great food, friendly service, and a cozy ambience. Definitely going back to sample more culinary delights.

So what's the verdict?: YOU GOTTA GO!

Great breakfast. Checked out this place last week and had their eggs in purgatory (2 eggs simmered in spicy tomato sauce) with home fries and it was awesome! real food for a good price and friendly service. hasn't lost their charm and will definitely be returning!

Change can be good. As a quasi-regular at Ada's Diner, I was skeptical to try the re-vamped Wilf & Ada's. The atmosphere was thankfully still quaint while the updates to the decor were clean and modern. The chalkboard menu was charming, but inconvenient & a tad confusing.

There was no classic benedict on the menu, which was a bummer, so I tried the blackstone benedict instead. The hollandaise was quite sour, but the home fries were wonderful and the coffee was great.

I enjoyed my meal and the service was great. All charm is not lost at the new Wilf & Ada's, though I'm sure we all miss Ada's warm smile greeting us at the door.

Ion Aimers has done it again!. Wilf and Ada's opened today ..maintaining the names of the original owners who made it a landmark. Ion Aimers...creator of The Works and more recently...Zazaza Pizza....has created a new original that maintains the warmth of the original restaurant with his own brand of charm and originality. As usual, exceptional warm staff who pride themselves on exceptional customer service, a yummy unique menu (everything made from scratch), very impressed...a great place to visit, not to disappoint! Four of us visited for brunch...yum...no complaints, high praise...would definitely recommend it! Great chef! Enjoy...we did and will definitely be back!

...The bacon had a slightly unique flavour but it was delicious and it meshed well with the soft and sweet pile of beans. The home fries, or “homies” as they call them, were the best thing about the dish – well seasoned, evenly cooked. And the side of french toast was very well done. The chunks of cooked apple on top were amazing and made the french toast taste like homemade apple pie. I don’t know how the apple was cooked but it was good. My only criticism: they didn’t butter the toast. But that’s not the end of the world.
Montreal Food Pictures
I recalled clearly Ada's diner as I frequently order their Philly chesse steak before I take the bus back to Montreal for the weekend. The décor is completely renovated. It's bright and clean which surely attracts the foodie crowd. The menu is small, but there is definitely something for everyone. As their name suggests, every element of their menu is made in-house from scratch - bread, peanut butter, cured bacon, vinaigrette, etc... Every item on their menu can be made gluten-free. To get my palate started, I opted for their homemade sun brewed iced tea. It is lightly sweetened, strong roasty taste of the tea leaves and freshen up with lemon juice. There were a few interesting brunch options to choose from. I ended up going for the Eggs in Purgatory - two eggs poached in a chunky tomato sauce served with arugula, thin slices of Parmesan and two slices of toasts for dipping, and a side of roasted potatoes. The tomato sauce is spicy yet lightly sweet, the eggs are nice and runny, the arugula adds a nice contrast of freshness and the parmesan brings an element of saltiness to elevate the flavours of the whole dish. Overall, the taste is fresh and clean. I'll definitely grab lunch again at Wilf and Ada's next time I use the Greyhound bus. Wilf & Ada's 510 Bank St. Ottawa, ON (613) 231-7959 http://wilfandadas.com/ No comments:
