The food was amazing. Especially, chai was excellent. I strongly recommend Kochin Kitchen. Keep providing the yummy food guys. I tried a couple of other Indian restaurants, and I did not like the taste of the food.
Everything is amazing...their food, staff, music, atmosphere...they have 7 star service in staff n food quality.
best Kerala food in town... If I had been all over Canada I would say best Kerala food in Canada... but I have not. But I think it is. You have to go and just enjoy it!
The food was amazing (mostly Kerala-style South Indian cuisine, with plenty of variety - and a selection of North Indian options, as well), and the service was exceptional! It was the perfect ambiance for our party of 7 or 8. Had an excellent variety of seating options as well, from small private tables to large areas - all in all an excellent experience and I highly recommend it ;) :)
Went for the lunch buffet. Great food, great service, will keep going back. Best butter chicken I have ever had.

When you crave South Indian cuisine
That's the place to go.
After 2 years in Canada had a chance to eat and enjoyed every bite.
The service was amazing and the food was awesome
Gave me a FOODGASM
Amazon food. Being from kerala, I can assure you this is definitely the most authentic food in Ottawa.
Took me back to kerala with the food.
We were there on opening night, we had an awesome meal. I would highly recommend Kochin. The food is just slightly spicier than typical Indian food, which we all really enjoyed.
OMG ... the food was totally DELICIOUS - the best Southern Indian cuisine I have ever tasted!!! The flavours of all the dishes made me feel like I was transported to Kerala. Thank you Anil and staff for a most wonderful meal! I will tell all my family and friends to go and experience authentic Southern Indian food at its best!!
Delicious food, wonderful coffee and courteous staff
Excellent Indian - slightly different style than I'm used to but really tasty. We share butter chicken, vindaloo, paneer, and biriyani and it was all excellent. Nicely spiced too.
The food is amazing. The service is excellent. I would love to back there to eat again.

Amazing dinner. The Butter Chicken was incredible. Will be going back.
Kerala Cuisine at it's best in Byward Market; one of the finest locations in Ottawa. The Egg Mappas & Coriander Shrimps are to Die for!!!
The best Indian food I have had in whole of North America!
Good authentic food. Great service. Definitely visit for authentic south Indian food. Not too fond of the all purpose porotta. They should try whole wheat options.
Amazing food quality. Typical South Indian food on point. Delicious flavours of Kerala. Loved the ambiance, had a complete festive feeling. Service was too good and friendly staff. 23 delicious items on your banana leaf, parripu curry, pulissery, Avial was just lip smacking. Best was the sweet Ada Pradhaman which was incredibly delicious 😋. Best place for South Indian food cravings, wonderful team serving the best quality food. Reservations is a must. 10/10 Simply awesome
Great restaurant to satisfy your Kerala food cravings! Masala dosa is excellent with authentic sambar & chutney. King Fish Moilee was good too, especially the sauce and veggies. Only drawback was that the fish hadn't imbibed the sauce and, hence, tasted bland. Vermicelli Payasam was good although I'd have preferred it thicker.
Authentic, delicious food from Kerala. South Indian food is significantly different from North Indian food. This restaurant hasn’t made any unfortunate concessions to Canadian palates.
Today went to downtown and was in mood to try Indian food, this place is quite famous outhere for lunch buffet so thought of trying it. The place as name says is a south indian food joint and they serve authentic south indian food, i really loved their sambar, wada and dosa. Idli was ok, roti was good and pulavo was good too, A super place to have a buffet.
The ambiance was relaxing and dinner was spectacular. You should definitely try the veg cutlet and ask for the special: Pomfret as they are amazing. The service was quick. The desert was superb especially the specials mango payasam and mini-coconut doughnuts. Not to forget to try their other special house brew coffee - it was very smooth and satisfying. Enjoy!
I highly recommend Kochin Kitchen to anyone visiting Ottawa or to anyone living in Ottawa and wanting to immerse oneself in delicious Indian food. I visited Kochin Kitchen on a Wednesday in September with a group of friends and everything was top-notch! The ambiance was stunning. The place was spotless, clean, and inviting. The staff members were accommodating, helpful, and welcoming. And the food was simply DELICIOUS! We couldn't have asked for anything better.
We have been here for their luncheon buffet during the weekends many times. Unlike the other buffet places, which tends to be overkill, Kochin Kitchen does it well. Not too much but just enough. Whether you are a carnivore or a vegetarian, they have a bit of everything for everyone. It’s nice to see that they don’t have heaps of food displaying on the line and they replenish the buffet when needed. They also offer Dosa as part of the buffet. Love this place.
Chicken biryani...MUST EAT! Ordered delivery twice now and blown away by how amazing the food is. The Kodanadu Chicken is one of the best chicken dishes i have ever had in my life. Get the Biryani and Kodanadu and thank me later...you will likely have left overs as well!
I ordered the chicken biryani topped with a hard boiled egg and wafer, a generous serving which could have been a substantial meal between two people. I was hoping to add the masala dosa onto my order, but it was unavailable due to the short staff. The ambiance was clean and simple, but the exterior could use a bit of a face lift. The restaurant is just minutes away from the Byward Market, so if you're craving Indian food, don't overindulge in the temptation of sweets and other delicacies found on the way to Kochin Kitchen.
Good food and even better service! Try the biryani or the chicken dish and you can't go wrong. The mango lassi and veggie thali were good as well. There is a parking lot just behind the restaurant. The servers are very helpful and courteous. It is a family friendly restaurant. Must-try if you are in the market!
Authentic South Indian (Kerala) food in the heart of Ottawa's ever-busy ByWard Market. The buffet is good value and gives a chance to try out a lot of options typically not seen in most 'Indian' restaurants. Their rice dishes and curries with coconut milk are personal favourites. Not the cheapest place but well worth it.
One of my favourite Indian restaurants in the town. Authentic south Indian food , perfect menu not many dishes in the menu, everything cooked fresh and to perfection. A south Indian's treat if choosing brunch on a weekend. Been there many times for now never felt a change in the  quality of the food, service, ambience . One of the Owners of the restaurant always around to make sure everything going well. Only thing which I personally would like is change in instrumental music that plays. As I've been there  quite often I get to listen to the same music otherwise surely the best Indian restaurant in town!

Kochin Kitchen is a new South Indian restaurant opened since the beginning of January in the ByWard Market in Ottawa. The lunch buffet is an opportunity to sample a variety of dishes that are typically served during dinner time. Vegetarians are more than welcome as there are ample of choices to satisfy their cravings. On the weekend, the buffet includes a free order of masala dosa - a thinly crisp pancake stuffed with potatoes spiced with onions, ginger, turmeric. It is served with a dollop of coconut chutney. Next to the buffet counter, there is a friendly gentleman standing in front of a clay pot preparing appam - a light and airy coconut crêpe. The texture and airiness is similar to the New Brunswick ploye which is made of buckwheat flour.
Best indian & South Indian food.i am three days in Ottawa visited all three days to restaurant staff & owner behaviour was very good Pawan Biyani
This place is just that, the best South Indian cuisine in Ottawa. Not only does their menu cater to every palate but the flavours are incredible. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and very friendly. The quality and quantity of food you get for the price you pay is more than fair. Also, their lunch buffet is inexpensive and has a large selection of delicious traditional South Indian dishes.
Recommended dish: Elayil Pollichathu (Salmon)
Great food. Enjoyed a lovely dinner at Kochin Kitchen on Saturday night,
The only thing this gem lacked was patrons. We were surprised that Kochin was so quiet. The food was excellent, we shared three dishes. And everything was fresh, hot and tasty.
Good prices too. GO there!
Such a yummy lunch experience!. I went for the lunch buffet with my boss and we both had a great time. My boss is very picky about restaurants and he said he'd definitely return here. We went close to noon on a Thursday. The service was excellent (they were constantly filling our water and taking our dirty dishes away), the food was hot and tasted very fresh, the meat was nice and tender and I thought it was very reasonably priced. They had a good variety of food options which were all full. The location was clean, modern and very comfortable. We sat by the window and enjoyed the nice sunlight coming in.Overall, I really don't have anything bad to say about this restaurant. I would return and I definitely recommend it.
Memorable lunch--I plan to return. It was -20 C outside, as I sat in the warm sunshine next to a window and enjoyed the best Indian food in years, probably since I was in India. The specialties and the quality of the buffet were such a delight. The host and server are extremely pleasant, accommodating and gracious. I highly recommend eating at the Kochin Kitchen.
Perfect brunch.......... Had a mouth watering brunch buffet ,with a perfect blend of indian spices.........awesome taste.....great aroma.....will visit again
The nose sometimes beats out your eyes and tongue!!. A great Great place with excellent food, lovely ambiance and great service. The great aroma of Indian food pulled me inside this place. As mentioned the nose sometimes beats out your eyes and tongue!! I was in for lunch buffet and they had variety of "tasty" dishes.Very happy to find out a place like this. Will surely visit again.
Cheers
We had a terrific dinner! The food is amazing and the owners are welcoming, friendly and passionate... And the food is the best Indian we've had. Beautifully prepared and completely delicious!
Highly recommended! Great addition to the Byward Market area.. This is an authentic South Indian restaurant - complex flavours, wide variety of dishes, and excellent service. Highly recommended. Unlike many other Indian restaurants in town, who sweeten their dishes or make a similar "base" for many dishes, this is the real deal.
My Review. Visited the Kochin Kitchen on opening day with my Family. Tried the real butter chicken, parotta and dum biriyani. Excellent taste. A different breed of Indian food. As I am familiar with those items from kochin (a city in Kerala, India), I can endorse that all those items tasted better than from its original place. Congrats to the people behind this venture. Keep it up the good work.
Excellent. Come and try it! The menu is interesting. Nothing like the usual Indian fare. I tried a veg starter and their signature chicken dish. Superb. The service was prompt. This restaurant only opened this week (Jan 2015) and I predict it will soon be humming with customers.
We had both Veg/Non-Veg, the taste is really good and we didn’t have any complaints. Taste of mango lassi and lime juice are of different taste, but its good and both the chicken and sea food are fresh, we didn’t feel like its kind of old/frozen ones. would highly recommend this place. The place is clean, staffs are very nice and they explained the dishes to patiently which helps us to decide. Seems like we need to have reservation but we got the table for our lunch.
Great south Indian food served here. Very courteous service. Staff is amazing. Food tastes great. Dum biryani was one of the item ordered, we found that it didn't taste like authentic biryani at all. We loved the 🥠mango lassi. Food quantity is bit less for the price you pay when compared to other south Indian food restaurants.
Amazing restaurant with great Keralite Food! Their Parotta and chicken curry is amazing. I loved the Prawns Kochi curry too. Digest everything with some warm comforting sweet Paysum.
Visited the place for dinner and the food was very good. I needed hot food on a snowy day and this place provided that comfort hot food I needed. Service was good. Servers were hospitable and quick. It was a nice and quiet place and I was able to enjoy my meal there.
Kochin kitchen was really good! We were traveling from Virginia to Ottawa and wanted to find a spot for some kerala food and Kochin Kitchen didn't disappoint.
Tried the Parotta, Lamb Kuruma and the Beef Fry and all of them were good. The parotta was pretty big so choose the number of parottas wisely.
The beef fry was really tasty, fried to perfection with copious amount of dry coconut flakes! Lamb kuruma was also on spot.
They offered kingfisher for beer which I tried as well.
Parking is on the street so depending on how crowded the area is, it maybe a struggle. We were lucky enough to get a spot right outside.
Saw some reviews where they were complaining about how this doesn't cater for all south indian food, which doesn't make any sense granted the name is Kochin Kitchen and not another-Generic-dosa restaurant.
Visited the place yesterday. First of all I wanna announce it as the best south Indian restaurant in Ottawa. A must Try. The sambhar was awesome. We ordered Masala Dosa, Vada and Sevaiya. All the items were exceptional. And what makes it a Five star is the vibe of the place and great customer service.
Really tasty food. Kotanadu Chicken is a star.
A little small portions for my liking but taste is phenomenal.
Indian tea is also authentic.
