Review Maharaja Authentic Indian Cuisine - Oshawa

I thought from the reviews that we would at least get decent food. Ordered food from this restaurant on Door Dash last night for the first time. Biggest mistake. The Chana masala had absolutely zero flavour, as if they put no spices in it. I actually had to add some spices to make it kind of edible. The naan tasted horrible, was tiny and I ended up throwing it out and using my store bought Suraj naan instead (which was better). The vegetable pakoras were undercooked, there was still batter inside of them which made them completely inedible. My sister in law also got fish pakoras that were not cooked. The ONLY thing that was good about the order was the plain rice. Even the salad was mediocre. At least add some onion! Door dash refunded $6 out of our $42 order. That doesn’t even cover the pakoras that were bad. Never ordering from Door Dash or this restaurant ever again. We ended up having to buy food from another restaurant because we couldn’t eat it. This is not authentic Indian food at all. Buyer beware...

This is a little gem of a place. We were passing through Whitby and felt like doing some Indian food and were surprised by the food this restaurant serves. We had the lunch buffet for $12 each without tax and it had few dishes but all of them were good and hit the spot. I personally loved the chana masala, fish pakora (fritters) and the lamb curry!!! The fresh hot naan was nice too. The owner seemed courteous. Stop and enjoy the food.

Literally a dining experience from hell ! I’ve visited and enjoyed this spot a couple times before and everything was great. However I went back and clearly everything on their menu is made different than how it use to be done. I’m not sure if their cook has changed or what... I use to love their palak paneer (green spinach curry) and garlic naan however I ordered it recently and it was completely watery and yellow in colour with barely any paneer... it tasted like daal!! I also got the chicken pakora and the plate had a couple of thinly sliced pieces of chicken. I sent back the palak paneer and asked for actual “palak paneer.” Upon trying the naan there was a HAIR baked into the bread. I asked the waitress about this too only to have her come back to me with so much attitude. I guess she let the owner know and I heard yelling in the kitchen HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. The owner was yelling obscenities in punjabi at us (a language I fluently speak so I understood) he even told the waitress to tell them (me and my friend) to leave and never come back again!! Like WHAT? I couldn’t believe it!! We dropped everything and left immediately without paying for anything. Another customer in the restaurant ordering takeout said sorry to me and that was the only pleasant thing that happened to me in that place that day. TLDR; STAY AWAY STAY AWAY, horrible service, horrible management, horrible watered down (and hairy) food!!

Unbelievably horrible. Oil dripping from the paneer dish. Hyderabadi biryani is anything but hyderabadi. Garlic naan is size of tandoori roti. We deserve better. I will never recommend it to anyone.

I ordered Chana masala and asked which daal they have for a Pick up order. They said daal tadka and i confirmed i want that. After 15 minutes i got the call back that they don't have daal tadka. Why did you confirmed then. Then I Just got the sabzi. Got home after getting the sabzi and checked..first too much oil. Literally went to sink to take out the oil ..while doing it.. please see the result. Total waste. Plus definitely this was made a day before.. just microwaved and gave it to me. Otherwise container won't be like this. Never saw this stupidity and cheapness in my life.

Food is OK although very limited buffet items We were told that naan was included in the buffet Imagine our surprise when we were charged $3 for 2 garlic naans They did not bother to tell us garlic naan was extra Most places would have told you and then would have charged you an upgrade charge Not the full list when the basic was already included The regular naan is $1.99, garlic naan $2.99 So if regular is included in the buffet we would expect to pay $1 difference No. They gouge you the full $3 and don't tell you When we asked to split the bill they generated a receipt with half cost per dish My wife had strong stomach cramps afterwards We will not be going back

This place has the best butter chicken you can find in Durham region and trust me I've tried them all. The butter chicken sauce and curry sauces are the most flavourful and most authentic.

We ordered food from here and when it arrived this chunk of metal was in our meal! (This is NOT a joke). We immediately called them to tell them what happened and they didn't even believe us (I honestly wouldn't have either) and actually argued with us saying that it wasn't possible. This wasn't just a sliver of metal...I'm still not sure WHAT it was, but it was a significant piece of metal!!! And it was in the middle of the meal-not at the top (they had suggested perhaps the driver put it in there...?!) What a shame

One of my favourite places to order take out or delivery from. Great food, good portions. The wait can be a little long, but its well worth it considering the quality if the food. Always a happy customer :)

Sooo good. Everything was on point and they give a lot of free rice toppings.

The best Indian food I have been able to find in Durham Region. I have had Indian food from a few excellent places in downtown Toronto and the West end of the city, and this definitely compares.

Have only had the butter chicken so far and find it delicious and a really great portion for the price. Friendly service, have never dined in (only takeout) but never had any problems. Worth the try!

Food was fresh and delicious. I had the Aloo Gobi and was spicy (to me but I can't handle too much spice) but oh so good!!! Excellent portions and friendly staff.

The best I have ever had. The portions are big, the taste and ingredients are quality. Couldn't ask for any better!

Food was not that great, i was given beef biryani instead of lamb biryani! naan had thick garlic chunks on it and food was extremely oily! would not go there again

I was there with a party of 20+ and even though we had a reservation we only had one young lady serving us which by the end of the night was totally exhausted with all the running around she had to do. I food was satisfactory & reasonably priced. The only gripe I have is parking is on the road/side roads which does get pretty busy so be prepared to hunt out available parking spots.

3rd time here, food is good. 2 hours for a take out order though, been waiting in place for over an hour from when the order was suppose to be ready. Two seated tables, two take out orders ahead of me. I own a restaurant and am pretty patient when short staffed as I know the hardship of trying to keep your place afloat but this is the worst experience I've ever had with food. It's a shame I'll never come back.

As a first time customer, I am pretty disappointed and unlikely to return :( I called to place my order at 4:50pm for pick up, on a Sunday evening and was told it would take 10-15 minutes. I arrived at 5:10pm and the order wasn't quite ready, which was not an issue, I was happy to wait. Then 5:30 rolled around and I asked how much longer, and she said it shouldn't be too long. Then 5:45 came and my patience was starting to wear. Finally at 5:50 (A full HOUR later) my order was ready. I was told the kitchen was having technical issues. I waited to be offered some kind of discount but was offered nothing, so I straight out asked for a discount - which I was grated. ($4 discount). We sat down at home to try this food and were pretty disappointed. The bread was chewy and thick and the pieces were very small. The butter chicken had good flavour but the portion size was incredibly small. We also order the Aloo Gobi (potato and cauliflower) which was also super tiny, was burnt (and tasted as such) and was incredibly greasy. Overall just really bummed that it wasn't more awesome. We were really excited to try out a local indian place so we could support local business. Instead, we will continue to make the trek to Whitby to Signature Indian Cuisine where the service is always prompt, and the food is incredible.
