Review Adonis Mediterranean Restaurant - Oakville

Rania Walker
The food was delicious, authentic (the potatoes reminded me of my grandmother's), and portions were generous. It's the best Middle Eastern I've had in Oakville. The owner told me that this restaurant is a labour of love that she, her mother and her daughter all work together in, sharing the recipes they grew up with that are a mix of family recipes from Lebanon, Armenia and Greece. As an additional note, they have lots of gluten-free and vegan options. Two of us are celiac and I am happy to report that they took this seriously, prepared our food on a separate surface, and understood enough about our needs that I didn't have to explain what we needed. So happy we found this place.

Fine Middle-eastern / Mediterranean dining for much lower than fine-dining price. Great value. We don't go often enough. Great service and family friendly atmosphere. The first time we went my two year old threw a coffee creamer (sealed thankfully) at a neighbouring diner. He smiled and said "good arm" and we laughed it off. The lamb dishes are very good. Great for a family dinner or date night.

Falafels were dry, loads of bland rice, only a few veggies despite paying $3 extra, very disappointing for $16. No garlic and no hot sauce either.

Love love love Adonis! The food is super fresh and delicious. We have been eating here for years. I had some friends over and did not feel like cooking. We ordered Adonis and it was a great hit with everyone!

Hands down THE BEST MEDITERRANEAN FOOD I'VE EVER HAD! I drive from Toronto just for the wrap sometimes, it's just so good. Well run restaurant with family foods, always a pleasure to stop by. :)

Lets see, look up hidden gem in the dictionary, yup there it is...Adonis! Do people use dictionaries still? Some crazy little strip-mall from a bygone era has some very of the best Mediterranean food this guy has ever had! My wife and friends have been going here for years, and now I know why. The Adonis shawarma with pineapple, which I thought was a bit weird at first was incredible! Wow! And the portion sizes are huge. Prices are at the point where I feel a bit guilty. There is a house for sale across the road, and I am seriously contemplating buying it! I will be going back for sure. If you are in the area, heck even if your not in the area, try Adonis out!

SOOOO GOOD! The food is always amazing and fresh. The service is excellent! I love this place. You can taste the freshness in everything you order. If you wanna try something yummy, tasty, delicious, Adonis is the place. I can’t go a week without having lunch or dinner there. Restaurante maravilhoso! Comida fresquinha e saborosa! Nice little place hidden in a strip mall. Food was ok, servers were very friendly. Food portions were decent. A little pricey for mediocre Greek food. Chicken was not very flavour full, salad dressing was a raspberry vinaigrette (not want you expect at a Greek restaurant). The salad looked like it came out of a bag like you would get at the grocery store. The chocolate cake was amazing my kids liked it. I probably won’t go back mostly because of the distance from where I live.

I went here last night with my Sheridan Theater friends. ( On a side note the Main Stage series of musicals this school offers is top notch and the price is right)

Atmosphere- MapQuest guided us away from the QEW all the way into a residential street. We kept going while I checked the address again. Yes , this place is in a tiny strip mall on house lined street. When we arrived no one was in the place but what caught my eye was the gorgeous colourful glass mosaic balls hanging from the ceiling and the beautiful smile of our waitress .She was just so welcoming. She explained the restaurant was run by her family and the cooks are mainly her mother and sister.

Food- All I can say is everyone at my table agreed we will be back again the food is that good. Our dishes included 1) Adonis shwarma- chicken with peppers, onions and pineapple. Two of my friends had this dish and I heard so many Mmms throughout the whole meal. 2) I had the lamb stir fry ( the name of the dish escapes me) This dish was mouth watering with thinly sliced lamb, peppers, onions, and pineapple .After I heard my friends were getting pineapple in their shwarma I asked for it to be added to my dish as well. If you like pineapple I highly recommend it. The result is scrumptious. 3) Vegetarian cabbage roll- My vegetarian friend who said since she has become a vegetarian 15 years ago she has never seen a cabbage roll offered for her. She smiled happily as she dove into the dish. The sides that were chosen at our table were the following: 4) fattoush salad- a little vinegary. Not the best I have but freshly made.- I would not pick this side again. 5) greek salad- a better choice 6) hummus- excellent 6) stuffed grape leaves- wonderful flavour. Highly recommended 7) falafel- nice taste. 7) fried potatoes- I would recommend these to anyone. The spices added to these were so full of flavour. I would love how they make them. All of these dishes were accompanied with a garlic sauce that added to everything. We all enjoyed it so much.

Service- The waitress was lovely. Her cook sister came out to say hello to people in the restaurant. ( Did I mention that in the time we ate the place filled up with a steady stream of take out patrons) The father and mother of this restaurant were both in hospital because a drunk driver had hit them head on. We heard a lot of the people in the place asking about them. This place has a large following . They were extremely busy and the cook sister still had time to greet the guests as they wished her parents a speedy recovery.

Impression- If this place was closer to my home I most definitely be a regular. Since it is a bit of a drive I wont be there often but I will most definitely be back again. .

I always have incredible food here with my family! It is family run and owned, the service is awesome and the restaurant is always clean. Large portions and food is authentic and delicious. Chicken shawarma is a must, also try their kafta!

Dinner here was a mixed bag. The food was alright, but not necessarily worth the price. The food service was slow, which was confusing given the fact that it's primarily fast food, and quality was inconsistent. The restaurant was almost full when we showed up around 7, but almost empty by 8.

We started with the hummus, baba ganoush, and grilled calamari. All of these appetizers were good, though the pitas were sliced a bit thin. The baba ganoush was my particular favourite, and possibly the best thing we had.

For dinner, we had the shawarma plates, which left something to be desired. My chicken was a bit on the dry side, and the portion was small for the price. It was served with a garlic sauce (which tasted a bit yogurty), but no hot sauce or hummus, or any of the usual trappings you might expect.

Overall, the meal was enjoyable, but not necessarily worth the cost. There is much better shawarma to be had in Toronto, but this might be as good as it gets in Oakville.

Just a note, but the "roasted" potato side is actually a boiled potato. If you want roasted potatoes, order the home fries.

Dinner for two will run you about $80.

Really amazing food. At first, we weren't too sure because of the location ( especially at night time ) but this place is really a hidden gem. The food is always amazing, the service is great, everyone is very friendly. The wait sometimes can be a bit long but that's understandable as everything is fresh and really tastes amazing.

A Restaurant With Great Food & A Community Vibe.. Went here for the first time after reading Urbanspoon reviews.

Food overall: Well cooked, correctly balanced seasoning, large portions (if you're a light eater you could share an entrée) and beautifully presented. Great food for sharing!!

Service overall: Prompt for sit-ins. For take-out order ahead.

Price: Reasonable for what you're getting. Entrées are $13 (Veg Platter) - $26 (5 pc Rack of lamb) depending what you're getting.

First, Nicolas Grignon's right, from the outside looks could be very deceiving! It's in a strip mall which isn't well lit at night in a residential part of Oakville. Once you're inside the restaurant though, it's nice, welcoming, modern with a Mediterranean feel and a warm atmosphere that has a has a community/family vibe to it. The place was packed, and what I noticed was basically everyone that came in was a regular, staff and patrons all seemed familiar with the each other.

I see why they have so many regulars. I ordered the Vegetarian Delight (Stuffed red pepper, a cabbage roll, 2 falafels, taboule and hummus, served with a side of warm pita.). Best falafel I have had in Oakville, amazing flavour and perfectly done. Taboule, and the hummus were fresh flavours balanced perfectly. The pepper and the cabbage were good, only thing is they were both stuffed with the same thing I would have liked different fillings, and they use a bit more oil than I usually cook with but it wasn't a greasy mess or anything. I used my pita to sop up all the goodness left on my plate, so I enjoyed my meal. The person I went with ordered Chicken Souvlaki with a side of grilled vegetables and roasted potatoes they loved their meal as well. The greek salad wasn't that impressive, it wasn't bad, it was just pretty basic. A village salad would have been better suited IMMHO.

You can take out, but I recommend eating there - great little spot. If you order to take out you should call in advance as the wait times for people that walked in and ordered was about 20 - 25 minutes because they cook everything fresh.

Over all I had a good meal, and I will be going back!

Adonis.... God of pleasure.... fine choice for an amazing experience!. Not very well situated and without a nice and shiny front end, first impression could be wrong...don't be disapointed yet... You are in for a treat! Adonis restaurant wears its olympian name like a glove: Let yourself indulge in a bath of awesome taste and fine mediteranean food! Everything on the carte is just to die for and the price won't hurt your purse too much... Really one of the best place to eat fine food on a budget in Oakville... this family restaurant is a pleasure for your papillas! Signed: The French (from France) in Oakville.

Wow You Guys Weren't Lying, This Place Is Awesome!. So after reading that Adonis is the #1 restaurant in Oakville, I just had to try it for myself. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. Weird location in a residential neighborhood strip plaza but so good. As soon as you walk in the door you knew it was going to be good. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and laid out. It was nice and warm on a cool foggy night, the food smelled great and the staff were very friendly. Took the chicken schwarma in a pita and fries home and l probably didn't need the large schwarma. I'm still stuffed. Will definetley be back, this time with friends and to dine in!

A hidden gem. They don"t advertise and are not listed in the local yellow pages , yet this place is full every weekend night. Service is exceptional and personal. We have dined here a half dozen times in 2010 and have found both the lunches and dinners very tasty. It is well worth a visit. Try the Adonis shwarma, - outstanding!

Too expensive, even for Oakville.. OK I know Oakville commands high prices, because everyone is rich and I'm sure rent is alot too. But this place isn't even that nice -- it's usually just teenagers sitting around inside and isn't really fancy so what's with the $20 prices for a simple shawarma dinner?

Portions smaller than the rest of the places in Oakville, and while its tasty, I just really don't feel its worth it considering the food that comes with it doesn't cost alot to make. I much prefer Agabi, and then Lourice.

What a great experience!! This family run restaurant was great yet simple. No need to get all dressed up for dinner. Lots of variety and something for all tastes including non-meat dishes. Servings are very good and you will not go home hungry. Really enjoyed our first time and looking forward to the next; what a breath of fresh air for Oakville.
