Review La Galleria Delicatessen - North Vancouver

Roger McNeill
This small establishment is known for its sandwiches but we also love its homemade soups, especially the minestrone. It's hearty, flavourful and full of chunky veggies. If you phone ahead, they will set some of their next batch aside for you. If you come around lunchtime, you may have to wait in line, but it is a good chance to strike up a conversation with the friendly Edgemont folk.
Fabulous Finds
We always work a way to have time for La Galleria sandwiches and food when we are in the area. The baked baguette is exquisite. Something about the flavour that so compliments the sandwiches. Our favourites are the Edgie-Veggie with roasted chicken, roasted red pepper, Edam cheese etc. Also the Vegetarian with BBQ eggplant, tomatoes, Edam cheese, Pesto Mayo and roasted red pepper. We always take away for a picnic. The flavours are special. Good favourites are home made soups, lasagna etc and other items like pastas to take home. A favourite of family members is the chicken rice salad/potatoe or pasta salads. Prices have increased somewhat but good quality items. Sometimes a line but worth the wait. Friendly staff, bright but smaller location. Very clean. Good family run business. Worth your time.

Love this place for a quick sandwich when I’m on the north shore. Lines are long during lunch rush so I always grab my sandwich to go. Sandwiches are full of fresh high quality ingredients and the bread is a fresh baguette. Today I had a small potato salad, Genoa salami sandwich and a sanpellegrino for $20.35. Pricey but great quality.

It's not a bad little deli and has pretty decent sandwiches. General stocked goods are minimal.

Best sandwiches ever! Been going here last ten years and still my favourite place!

Tasteful sandwiches but the operating hours so limited and the sandwiches are overpriced for the quality or portion

Have been a customer here for many years. High quality ingredients at every step, whether it be their in-store made soups and salads, or sandwiches and pastas. The staff and owners are always friendly and inviting, and their dedication to quality hasn't wavered over the years. Try everything here, it's all good.

The best sandwiches that I ever tasted. Better than Subway and Quiznos. The bread is fresh and crunchy. The chicken sandwich taste great and fresh. My hubby's roast beef tasted awesome. I will definitely come back again.

Amazing sandwiches, and fast service even during their high demand times. About 15 people were waiting before us today and I think we had our sandwiches in less than 25 minutes. Little bit low on space when only 2 people can be in the store due to COVID-19. $11-$15 per sandwich.

Awesome sandwiches and amazing service. I’ve been having them for 6 years and they never fail to impress!

This place has gone downhill. The last few times I've been, the one slice of ham in their sandwich didn't even reach the end of the bun. Today, I dropped by (I live 1/2 a block away) at 3:45 and a sign on the door says "no more sandwiches today". They are open until 4:30. Isn't sandwiches what they do? Sadly, it's no longer worth what they are offering. Too bad.

Been coming here since high school and it's been consistently awesome since then. All the sandwiches are delicious but my favourite is their Mortadella & Roasted Red Pepper baguette (add Provolone cheese). For some reason I always seem to be craving one of their sandwiches on Mondays, when they are closed - just a heads up!<br/><br/>They also have a selection of dried goods (pasta, risotto mixes etc) as well as a selection of sauces and vinegars. They do have some packaged food that you can purchase too. I've tried their lasagne and one of the soups and they were both delicious. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Perfect lunch. Saturday lunch for 2. Chicken and ham baguette sandwich.<br/><br/>Do not have to add any more than what has already been said by other reviewers - the baguette sandwiches are the best! We visited the shop at 2pm after our visit to the Calipano Suspension bridge (which is less than a 5min drive away). It was a beautiful day and eating these great tasting sandwiches in the sun was perfect!<br/><br/>Tip: if you are in a rush you can call ahead to have the sandwich made in advance and ready for you to pick up.

Great Sandwiches but a bit pricey. Great but pricey! Their quality is amazing

Super addicted. Best sandwiches ever, especially the bread is to die for. This place is very highly recommended. I will surely come back to this place when I visit Vancouver.

Beyond Amazing!. Best sandwiches I have ever tasted in my life! They are well worth my drive from Langley to North Vancouver. Will be back again and again.

Downhill in a Hurry. Being an Edgemont Village resident, I'm up to date on all the hot Edgemont gossip, including the fact that the original owners of La Galleria have sold their little nest egg. Good for them, totally sucky for everyone else. The quality of food, primarily the sandwiches, has spiraled downwards from best in the city to average at best. The bread recipe has changed from a delicious authentic French baguette to basically a garden-variety white bread, less meat, less and lower quality vegetables (my last sandwich was mushy from disintegrating tomatoes) and overall less satisfying. Living so close, I have been eating these sandwiches for almost 10 years now, sometimes twice a week. They were so good that I didn't even care if they were single handled destroying any attempt at a diet (mayo overload!). I gave them a few more tries after the mushy tomato incident, but now refuse eat there because it's always such a disappointment. I need to start a petition of angry North Vancouver sandwich eaters.

Best in Lunch in Town...nuff said eh!. How the heck do I rate this as... ' I really really really seriously like this place?'<br/><br/>You have to go grab lunch there... you just got to go.<br/>Heading up the Grind...come back down...and head over for a sandwich to go.<br/><br/>hey...they make great food... good hearty delicious sandwiches and it's a bustle..but it's busy and you get fresh and you are satisfied.<br/><br/>I've been going there for 10+ years and never disappointed.<br/><br/>you can taste the difference good quality ingredients make....this is so not Subway/Quizno fast-food. <br/><br/>only setback..there is no place to eat....it's all to go

Used to be great, now it's OK. Something has changed since the new owners took over. The sandwiches went from the best I've ever had to just OK.

Best Sandwich in Vancouver. As my title states, this is hands down the best sandwich in vancouver. You will always get line-ups at this place. Either come really early or well risk it coming later because you will have to wait no matter what. But beware if you come too late they might run out of bread or ingredients for their chicken sandwich (the most popular one!). The bread is warm and freshly baked. It has a crunch but still soft and chewy enough. There is just enough pesto mayonnaise and well everything is fresh. You have to try out this place!

Uh oh. The secret is out. I've been holding back on posting this because it's currently Vancouver's best kept secret! Excellent sandwiches made in house with fresh ingredients. They also have a delicious daily soup special, & a great selection of cheeses and sauces and is a Truly authentic Italian deli as well. The shop is family owned and they are usualy closed for the month of august. Be prepared for this! As well while this is a well kept secret it's well known. Calling ahead or arriving early before the lunch crowd is recommended! As well there's no real seating. Maybe a total of four inside and on nice days a beautiful patio. Hours are 10:30-4ish, although the sandwiches are usually all gone by 2:30/3:00 all in all it's a great place. The secrets out. Go and get it, foodies!
