Review Cazba - North Vancouver

Love this Persian Restaurant. Delicious Food always marinated perfect. Customer service is amazing. Very Friendly. Always come check up on you to see how things are. Clean building and restrooms. Well maintained. Prices are affordable for the luxury and amount of food you’re getting. Will come again for sure & highly recommend this place to anyone. Thanks guys.

Avisa serving people perfectly. Food quality is different, I don’t know if they change the chief during the week or what, generally I recommend it. Food quality and prices are competitive and the private parking is a plus

This was my first time at a Persian restaurant. I love the food, very tasty and huge portion size. One dish can easily feeds two adults. The Greek salad is not an actual Greek salad but it was ok. My lamb was great!

Cazba restaurant had a stall in Lafarge Lake Park in central Coquitlam before the Persian new year in March 2022. Their food was terrible!! I wasted my time and money buying their Barbecue sandwich which only had a little bit of parsley on the barbecue, without any sides!, and also Aash (pie), but the beef barbecue was not cooked properly and was tasteless and unpalatable! Meanwhile, the cashier ladies were unfriendly and looking strange at people when handling the POES device! I don't recommend this restaurant group to anyone.

Foods are tasty with well sized portion. Their own baked bread is amazing specially if you try it with eggplant stew (Kashk bademjan).

Today I ordered Tahchin from Cazba and cut it to put it in the microwave. I found a big piece of glass/ sharp plastic in the middle of the food! I would never ever order from this restaurant again since I don’t want to put my health under threat and put the entire thing out! Awful!

Nice Persian restaurant; cozy and local-like. The young lady who was our server was really nice and made us feel comfortable. The food was decent, and although I have tasted better Persian food in Vancouver, I’ll be back in Cazba. We had Barg, Loghmeh and Koobideh kebabs, as well as Ash. Portions were good, but side dishes could improve.

I had avoided Cazba for 6 years until last night, because the food quality was always lacking. I went there last night to meet old friends and the food was even worse than 6 years ago. The chenjeh was almost medium rare and the seasoning was minimal. They need to Google chenjeh to remember what it's supposed to be. It was so bad I couldn't eat it and left most of the food on the table. The waiter didn't care of course and didn't ask if the food was ok. This was by far the worst chenjeh I've had in Vancouver (or anywhere actually). I looked over at my friend's koobideh and that also looked bright and uncooked. So, this seems to be a theme there.

Wonderful! This place has really great fresh baked pita bread,Meat fresh. Dolmati outstanding. I recommend.Persian black tea is great quality.

Back in North Van means checking out another Persian restaurant. Cazba is well known and has a second location downtown (on Davie’s Street). It’s located off the main strip but ridiculously close to Zeitoon Restaurant and Yaas Grill House. All the Persian places in one spot. I dropped in on a Saturday afternoon (around 3:45pm). The place was half full; pretty good given the odd off hour timing. The inside is spacious with several tables and a few TV’s playing old NBA playoffs (random) and the Food Network.

This was recommended by some Persian friends scouting for authentic Persian food. This place is very family friendly, large space inside and can get quite busy in the late afternoon. The food is very well priced for what it is, comes out very fast, all very well done and I have nothing bad to say other than the service is a bit slow.

The location was very convenient and good , the staff were good the food jooje kabab was very delicious and the kabab kobideh was ok, it’s nice to try everything

It was a bit disappointed visit for me. The management and stuffs are not very efficient and quick. Place is average. The only advantage over the other outlet in downtown is comparatively better taste of food. Though the quantity is a bit lesser than the other place.

The worst kashke bademjan I've ever had. Khoreshte Bademjan was also very greasy. Doogh was bland and warm, kababs were mediocre. Tables were dirty with stains all over them. The only positive was the complimentary Tah dig. Overall very disappointing!

I received pita breads with black mold on them. I called Cazba restaurant to let them know that bread has black mold but their response was like "Oh, that's O.K".<br/><br/>My partner lost her appetite and didn't eat the lunch. <br/><br/>It was terrible customer service experience for us.

I heard lots of good things about this restaurant and finally went there last night. Overall, the food was good but customer service and the experience could be a lot better. <br/><br/>I got seated right away but waited about 20 minutes for someone to take my order. They took orders from 2 tables near us before us, even thought we came first ! Finally, they took our orders. Not surprisingly , the folks at the 2 tables near us that came after us got their orders first. To make things worst, they gave me the wrong dish. I ordered lamb shank and they gave me lamb kabab. Instead of correcting their mistake, they insisted I ordered lamb kabab. I'm not even a fan of kabab! I'm 100% sure I ordered lamb shank and I even pointed to the item on the menu when I ordered. I agreed to take it as I didn't want to wait another hour to get the correct dish. When I got the bill, I was expecting I would be charged for the lamb shank, but was very disappointed to see that I was charged for the lamb kabab, which is quite a bit more expensive and I didn't order in the first place, but only agreed to avoid making a scene. This ruined my evening and my mood. <br/><br/>On the bright side, my wife got the correct dish she ordered and it was good, but that's the first and last time I come to this place!

went here after a long hike in sea to sky, and a friend recommended the place and so went here, and not really knowing what the food is going to taste like, went for the chicken platter, although i must say the other items that the rest of the guys ordered is reallly great i must say, love the spices and flavouring that goes into each dishes, the meat was great too, and the price for the portion love it as well. definitely one of the places that i can recommend to people if they are searching for something different. I love the combination of the roti/bread with the beans/sauce that my friend ordered.
Steve Elynuik
Used to be my favorite by far. They realized they were the best and simply stopped putting the effort in, much better Persian food can be found at zeitoon, mehman, or gilaneh. Downtown location really wasn't much better when I tried it a few months ago
Dave
Terrible service our waiter was very rude and unprofessional worst service I've had in a long time. Food was good may have enjoyed more but our incompetent waiter ruined what might have been a very good dinner. First of all didn't want to split bill for us because it was too much work for him to print off 7 separate bills after him arguing with us for a couple of minutes we decided we would split our bill ourselves so it wasn't too much work for our waiter. When food came out we were missing two meals. After going back over his unorganized pad of paper and questioning a few of us at the table weather or not we had taken the right meals he decided that he had messed up the order and got new meals made up for the two missing. Then it was time to get the bill first off waiter would not put bill on our table when I went to grab the bill from him after him holding it for a few minutes he pulled his hand back and said no I need that. So I told him if he wants the bill to get paid I need to see it first so I know how much I owed. He was under the impression that one person would pay for everyone. Once we were allowed to see our bill some of us wanted to pay cash well other debit and credit. Once again the waiter got mad and told us that now it's more work for him and we should have asked him to split our bills up. All I can say is I would maybe do take out but never take anyone here as service is an embarrassment. Besides there are other Persian restaurants that are just ask good if not better with staff who have some respect and knowledge of their job

The first Persian food we tried and it was freakingly amazing!!!!!!! Seem to be exaggerated but we literally liked it. The meats are well seasoned and they have large servings. My bf and I got a platter and a jujeh kabob. Of course he had the platter good for 3-4 people which is humongous... And because it was that good, he finished it. The only downside would be the tomatoes which is only a half for every meal. The ambiance is also nice. Servers are also friendly. It's a must try!

Food was amazing. Good atmosphere and the waiters are very knowledgeable and gave sound advise of what to order. Would be great to have a branch in montreal.
Drunken Noms
I’ve been doing my Dungeons & Dragons night with Jar Jar and company for a few weeks now every Thursday night. Ninja Stripper cooks him a delicious dinner each time, meanwhile we’re left to fend for ourselves when it comes to dinner. How rude! Okay, not really. I’m actually thrilled about this since they live in North Vancouver which I almost never go to because, well, I live in Kitsilano and work downtown. Why? If it makes you feel any better, as of this blog post I now see North Vancouver in a totally different light. You see, I asked the guys for recommendations on what to get for take out and one of them suggested Cazba. I recognized the name since I went there years ago with a Persian friend who suggested it as his farewell lunch (he left the company and that was his last day) spot, though we went to the downtown location.  I remember really enjoying it so I was hoping for more of the same. I didn’t realize they actually had another location in North Vancouver. I also didn’t realize that there’s actually life and civilization along Lonsdale Avenue with lots of different restaurants I’d never even seen or heard of before. Exciting all around!

Came here two times now, and will keep coming back because the food is so good. The saffron chicken. The lamb, all marvellous. Be careful, the rice in the lamb dishes have fava beans (my son is allergic) though it does not say so on the menu. The sugar on top today was the waitress Justine, her friendliness and attentiveness was par none. One note - it does not feel enjoyable when some of the staff are vacuuming the floors right beside us while we are eating though. <br/>

We went to Cazba with our Iranian friends because I had never had Iranian food before, and everything I had heard about it, just sounded amazing! Even though the West Van outlet is a little far, our friends assured us that it is marginally more authentic (and cheaper) than the Downtown one.<br/><br/>We started with their complimentary pita bread and onion - I was starving and made the mistake of eating the onion by itself. All I shall say, is that it wasn't the best idea. Order some of their delicious appetizers, and wait for them to arrive.<br/><br/>Courtesy our friends, we tried a huge number of dishes - kashkeh badamjoon (very creamy, very delicious), dolmadeh (kinda meh, couldn't tell what was inside it), some pickled olives (couldn't stop eating), joojeh kebab vaziri (enormous quantity!), fesenjoon and a mint and yogurt based drink. Fesenjoon has a very unique taste - sweet and tangy. I had never had anything like that, and I was suspicious at first, but it was great!<br/>The joojeh kebab vaziri comes with rice, but you can go half-rice-half-salad for a dollar extra. But they don't tell you that it's a dollar extra!<br/><br/>Ambience-wise, it felt like a great place to go with your family. In fact, there were lots of people with their family there; it's got a pretty big space indoors. I have heard complaints about their service, but with such awesome company, I didn't really notice :)<br/><br/>All in all, I'd say they have huge portions, great value for money :)

Too much food !!!!. I have never seen sooooooooo much food in one plate that would be enough for 2 adults and be this cheap. I just have 1 thing to say ultra amazing !!!!!!!!!! I recommended to anyone who wants to eat Persian food to come Cazba first !!

One of the best Persian restaurants. After going to 5 different Persian restaurant in north Vancouver I finally found the best one. The Kebab's are amazing and it literally melts in your mouth before you starting chewing on it. I still can't believe how much food I got for only 14$ and the its quality was beyond perfect for the price. I give them 4 out of 5 stars only downfall was that I got my food before I was able to finish my appetizer

Good Food, Good Service. My wife and I went there for the Persian new year day, food were good, variety was great, dishes were huge and the service was good as well. Atmosphere was good for semi casual dining, good size with free parking. I take my guests over there for persian fests.<br/>Morteza served us professionally, and we had to almost an extra dish to take home.
Wil34341
Food is good but service is subpar. Eaten there twice now and loved the food. However, I feel there is a bit of racial profiling where Persian clientèle clearly get preferential treatment and service over other ethnic groups.
Kevandlouca
Don't eat here. Would strongly recommend against this restaurant. The staff are rude. Went I went out of the restaurant into the parking lot I was distusted to see a filthy caravan pulled up delivering the kebabs pre-prepared, sitting on a dirty van seat not even covered. Felt like puking.
Canada
Unacceptable Poor Service. We went to this place two times in the past few years and the quality of service was unacceptably poor and the food is picey. There are better Persian and Mediterranean restuarants in the area and in the outside Vancouver. Would I return......no.
Shima
Food was awful i had kebab , meat was really hard to eat and the stew was really greesyy and their services was realy poor and i got complitly ignored. i will never ever goo back there again .
Isothecium
Decent food, great portion. I ordered chicken leg which was huge and fork tender. Rice was fluffy and the tart red berries added the flavour a kick and I liked it. I couldn't say It was a healthy meal but was comforting. The main course I ordered didn't come with any substantial veggies so I ordered a salad which was cheap and came with a generous portion. I didn't experience any problem with service. They were very attentive and helpful.

Absolutely love this restaurant,The best quality meat of any chelokebabi on lonsdale.
Homa
Homa. Great Persian food but MANAGER is VERY RUDE.<br/>Please see yelp.ca

People don't want to know their server's name. Bring this up to your restaurant. We don't want to be friends with you, we just want food. Nothing more, nothing less. Cazba is a non self service food court, I always ask them to take onion away from my table but they replace it in a second! <br/>what s wrong with these guys! <br/>The food is really yummy but management is a crap.<br/>Service is excellent there but sometimes is annoying , I f I look a round, they jump and ask me for my needs, and I feel I gotta go!
Mozhdeh
Best Persian restaurant ever.<br/>The food is amazingly delicious and the staff are very polite and professional .<br/>I think the price is very too low for that kind of quality !!
Driss65
Horrible service &asked for tip. You wait for your server for more than 15 minutes so that he takes your order and at the end if you don't leave him a tip, he will stare at you angrily and he will talk to you in a threatening manner" this is not fair, I have to give 6% to the kitchen". I love to meet the owner to inform him about the horrible waiters he has in his staff.
Steve
Great meat!. The chicken and lamb are amazing! But what's with all of the rice? I know it's traditional but meat and rice is not much of a meal in my opinion, I wish they could mix it up with some more vegetables (steamed?). But I have to give the credit for their chicken, WOW! The service is ok, sometimes the waiter act like they don't care. But overall I don't mind them. Stay away from that sour yogurt drink... blech!

I am responding to a comment made on this review section - <br/><br/>re: Dietary Restrictions<br/><br/>Anyone who voluntarily, or by compulsion, places themself under dietary restrictions- for any reason- would ALWAYS make that known when accepting food from ANY restaurant. EVERYONE knows that the due dilligence is on the consumer on 'what ' is consumed in a public arena.<br/><br/>Please take this ' thinly feigned racism' somewhere else.

Interesting introduction to Persian cuisine. Neither of us had ever been to a Persian restaurant and this one was recommended by a Persian colleague. The service wasn't great, but the prices were low and very affordable. Pita to start, served with raw onion - which was quite interesting - I like raw onion, my sweetie does not. We shared the sabzi (interesting and tasty spices, overcooked beef, too many kidney beans) and the beef kabob (very tasty, bold spices).

The Cazba, the best. I've been dining here since they opened and I have to say they have the fastest service and best food in terms of quality. Because of this, it's always packed and it can be very crowded when it's at full capacity; not the best spot if you're looking for an intimate evening with the family or friends. Oh and the prices are the best you'll find anywhere.
Syed_rehman992003
Amazing Food. The quality and consistency is always what i find everytime i have food at this restaurant.
Jojo
The food is just ok! But the service is terrible. They have very bad attitude and dont have very good manners when treating customers.
Ibrahim
Average. Very busy place, we were 4 families on a Sunday nite. Service was fast and good, prices are very reasonable. Food quality is average.<br/>Over all I will give it a 5 out of 10
SMTH
RE-USED MEAT. Very rude service. We had one lamb shank dish, one chicken stew dish, and one boneless chicken dish. To be clear, one of us (for religious reasons) can not eat beef. He only realized this once he cut up the meat and ate a piece. When he cut to the middle, it was red then asked a passing server what this is. He said beef. Our regular server yelled at us. Basically for ordering wrong (we don't speak the language but pointed to the right item and said "chicken"). <br/><br/>>> He said the restaurant could not **RE-SERVE** the meat out again cause we cut it up and that we needed to pay for another chicken dish.
Brownstud56
Poor service; poor ambience, poor quality of food. This restaurant has poor service, ambience is worse than MacDonalds,<br/> food is not so good. Manager is rude!!!
MM
Fast and affordable. I like this place because it's cheap, good quality for the price you pay and fast service.

Amazing food and super low prices! Enough said!

Every time I go to cazba I am blown away. The service is great and the food is to die for. I mean it when I say it is one of my most favorite restaurants in north vancouver
The Islander
The food is fantastic, and the price is even better. Frankly, at these prices, they're giving the food away. It's SO good!
Chef Dean
I found food to be great and service was to the par. Would I go back?? hell yes. It was a Persian treat
Love Good Food
Worst experience. Returned to Cazba after 2 yrs while visiting Vancouver, never had such bad experience at a restaurant ever. The service was horrific, they got most of our orders wrong, drinks and food. When we complained to management about flat cokes he said we should have asked for cans!! Seriously? No apologies for their mistakes plus attitude on top....good luck staying in the business. We will never go there again ( all 13 of us) nor will we recommend the place to anyone. Worst $140 spent.
Kosherish Dave
Good food & value. The ground beef kebob was good and the marinated pieces of chicken breast were excellent. $8.95 for a generous portion of Chicken kebob, a pile of perfectly cooked rice and salad is good value. Service is friendly but on this busy Saturday afternoon (at least) very casual. The only negative was we both felt less than welcoming stares from some of the other patrons. For most of our time there we were the only non Iranians and felt like we were exhibits in a zoo...
Saman
I am persian and i cook. Ery well personaly. Cazba used to be a great place to eat but in last few months quality dropped so bad. Now they use cheap rice and cheap meat. Chicken is still good but the kabab quality id down at least 50%. I hope that owner reads thos and re evaluate the quality.
Love To Eat
Tasty. Food was tasty. Portions large. Price reasonable. Casual place. Went late on a Sunday afternoon and place was packed. Large place so we did not have to wait long for a table. Service was fine. We had just come from the mountain so a number of us had hot water with lemon. They charged 75 cents for a cup of hot water with lemon. We were not told that we would be charged and it was not on the menu but it just appeared on the bill. Someone had asked about it and the response was ìt`s only $1.50. Also, a lot of restaurants automatically add a tip onto the bill for large groups and this place does. But shouldn`t someone have the option of tipping? In this case the service was good but if the service is crappy you wouldn`t have the option. I would go back but if you have hot water with lemon be prepared to pay 75 cents a cup.

Yum yum.... I have to admit that we tried Cazba once they opened first and we didn't like it at all, the service and the food wasn't good. We again gave it another try on January 1st, 2012 and wow what an improvement. We loved it so much that we have been dining there every Sunday lunch ever since ( flowing our Iranian tradition of having Kabab on the weekends). The food is great and the service is amazing now, all the staff are so nice and attentive. They have expanded their space and now it's even better, i am dreaming about their "Soltani" dish all week long, waiting for sunday to arrive so I can have it again. Yum Yum
Beh Sigari
I would have to say not only is this the best kabob place in town; but maybe the best in all of western world. I had just came back from my home town in Tehran and there were family members talking about Cazba!!! I couldn't believe my ears. I really hope they're able to keep what they are doing b/c you can tell its a family restaurant and everyone who works there does there job with great passion. I just wanted to say "thank you Cazba for giving us a restaurant that we can take family and friends without feeling ashamed or embrassed"
Tyrone
Good price for what you get!. The quality is good and the price is amazing. I really enjoy persian food, since I have some persians in my family. This place is the bomb! The service is really good, and I found the owners to be very kind. Check it out!
Arti123
Persian junk food. Only re.... Persian junk food. <br/>Only reason I would eat there again is because its cheap. Other then that it has horrible service and low quality.<br/><br/><br/>-----05 Dec, 2011-----<br/><br/>Worst service! Good food for the price you pay. My advice, order it for pickup
Tarang
Best Persian Resturant in N.V.. The food is amazing. Specially Kabob Soltani and Joojeh ( Chicken Cabob ). The rice is ldry sometimes, needs more butter. The service is good and the price is unbeatable.
Mehdi
Good food, great price!. Their Persian Cousine is served hot in large plates. Their Kabobs are tasty, especially their lamb kabobs. Rice is served with Saffron on top, and is aromatics. Service is not great, but I could attribute that to being full and extremely busy when we visited them on Saturday night. Overall, I would recommend them and will visit them again when we're in town again.
FOOD MAN
I was going to go to mumbia masala like I usually did but the I saw a restaurant called Cazba and decided to eat their. When I got in it was pretty busy. when I ordered it took at least half an hour to cook it and the wait was not worth the wait. the the rice was dried up and the chicken was raw and the only one thing that was good was the coke. I cant believe that on top of that the food was not healthy its like a Persian MacDonald's I strongly recommend Mumbia Masala wich is right beside Cazba
Foodielover
Best Persian Food in the City. I've been to Cazba on several occasions and the food is awesome! The jujeh and koobideh kabobs are delicious, as is the mast-o-musir dip. The fact that this place is always packed with persians (often with a line) is also quite telling!
Mott_377
Awful service. Food is ok, but the service is the worst, never say hi, never have a smile , they treat people like just eat the food and get the hell out because there is a lineup, never again will go back. <br/>wow, even stephos never treat their customer like this and they been around more than 20 years, go and learn then come and open a restaurant.
Vida
Yaaamyyyyyyy Food. I was with a few friendes there, The food was excelent and the service good too, just the washroom was not realy clean and... <br/>I would love to go again there with freinds and collegs, I hope that they take note of washroom too.
LazyCityGirl
Decent food at decent price. Kebab meats were a bit over cooked but overall for the price it was decent. both chicken and beef steak kebabs were ok. They give you lots of rice. Doogh(? - persian yogurt drink) that came in a pitcher tasted nice and reasonably priced.<br/><br/>I think I would rather go to Hakhamanesh (at the former Kash Cool location) for persian food. I might have been more torn between Kash Cool and Cazba - because Kash Cool was considerably more pricy but now that Hakhamanesh adjusted to more "realistic prices". I definitely prefer their food over Cazba.. well at least kebabs...
Littlemousey
Unattentive. Worst experience ever. The lamb was undercooked and another table had undercooked chicken. The seating arrangement would even cause sardines distress. <br/>Simple drink order was loused up. We received 2 of the 3 pops requested and then were still charged for 3.<br/>The raw onion appy came with stale bread and the yogurt & shallot dip came with no additional bread. We asked the server for more bread but received none. Our appetizers arrived at the same time as our entrees, no wonder why the entrees weren't cooked.<br/>It took a good 10-15 minutes for anyone to take our order... We were excited to be dining Persian style and the server simply had no flair and it seemed like rookie Persian diners were not welcome.<br/>The icing on top was when my toddler spilled her drink and everything was wet, they only brought 2 napkins to help out.

Ying Yang. I have dined in this restaurant twice. The first time the food was good and the service was professional and fast. Good value as well.<br/><br/>The second time, it took forever for them to seat us even though they had empty tables. No one just bothered to acknowledge us. Then we sat there for good 20 minutes and no one came to our table. Next thing you know, someone put food in front of us. We hadn't even ordered yet!! After I voiced my dissatisfaction with the service, they paid some attention to us. They send us a complimentary appetizer and the kabob was kinda dry. To sum it up, the last bad service out weighs the first good experience and I have not returned since. <br/><br/>I probably will try them one more time.
Foodpro
I know food and the quality which it's made of. Cazba is by far my favorite restaurant...food is delicious and price is soo cheap...I would be willing to pay double for this quality and taste...go and see for yourself
Nikki
Amazing & You can't beat this!!!. The food at Cazba is truly to die for! So delicious. We have had the barg, the koobideh and the joojeh and nowhere beats the taste! They are tender and juicy. I have also tried the masteh moosir (yogurt with garlic) and that was awesome too. We have dined in and had take out too, both were great. The service was great as well, our server was attentive and checked on us many times. The price is also affordable. Overall, two thumbs way up!! I will be returning every week.
Perkjohnston
Really delicious. I am Persian myself and have been to a multitude of Persian restaurants that have been somewhat of a rollercoaster with the food selection. However when I went to Cazba I was quite impressed with the dishes, and the kabab barg (and essentially all of the kabob dishes) was delectable! I am definitely going back, despite what people have talked about regarding the customer service, it seems irrelevant when the food is good. I recommend it if your not a prude about the service, which will improve with time, cause its a new restaurant still. So good!!
Chuck2010
Will return. Went there last week by myself for lunch and i had a great lunch. I was definitely the only non-persian there for lunch. the service was okay (order got mixed up and bill came late), but i attribute that to the fact that everybody spoke very little english. the atmosphere was definitely authentic. Watching the operations, you can tell that they also do a big take out business. <br/><br/>My lentil soup was fabulous. The lamb shank and rice/dill/bean side dish was great. will certainly go back.
Chaseone
Not impressed. I went there twice this past week. the food is ok but the service was very poor and the staff did not really know what<br/>they were doing. lots of people aorund but absolutely no service and <br/>no one really cared. it took a long time to get served and a long time to get the bill .<br/>will not go back again!
Yrabbani
The vanishing food act. Called to order takeout however the phone was not answered. After several attempts someone picked the phone up and asked how they can help, at which time i placed my order. However, before i could finish what i had to say i was told that they had run out of food and was hung up on. Go figure!!!!!!!
Ashley
I think the most amazing thing about my whole dining experience was just what good value it was. Because of the size of the dishes, we all left full and everything we ate was tasty. I am sure that it did help that we had someone with us that knew what to order, but every dish that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked equally as tasty. And our bill, including doogh (an Iranian yogurt drink), a couple of pops and tax was under $43.
The Primalist
Even though they were at capacity, service was very efficient. The food was tasty, and the portions were very generous. The best skewer was definitely the ground beef, followed by the chicken. The steak skewer was just okay (a little tough). It’s a great place to fill your belly without emptying your wallet. But it wasn’t quite the Persian experience I was seeking. I guess I was after something like Darchin, but more home style cooking. Perhaps I should’ve tried something other than kebabs, but I heard that’s what Cazba is known for. Plus, the other dishes I would’ve tried – the Fesenjoon stew and the lamb shank were what I had already sampled at Darchin.
Somerville Kitchen
The Iranian weekend adventure (see Shopping Iranian Style ) continued with an authentic feast at Cazba - a restaurant described by my Iranian escort as the most authentic in the city. This was confirmed by a crowd that is 90% Iranian. The first serving, Barley Soup , was returned to the kitchen because, according to my escort, it was oily and not done right. Ash Reshte was the replacement, a hearty soup of noodles, vegetables, beans and lentils. The food was uphill from there. A green salad of lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes covered with a light mayonnaise sauce is the kind of salad every restaurant in Iran starts the meal with. The appetizer was Kishk-e Bademjan , which is simply deep fried eggplant, pureed, and covered with Kishk and fried mint. Kishk is a middle eastern additive to food that varies from one country to another. The Lebanese version is yogurt and cracked wheat, while the Iranian version is si
The Hungry Nomad
The only thing I can say is that I was very disappointed with the Kashk Bademjaan- as it was watered down and tasted nothing like the real dish. In fact I am pretty sure we left the entire plate untouched. I hope that they either take it off the menu or attempt to serve the real deal.
