Review Thomas Haas - North Vancouver

Chocolate cake is the best!!! It has a very rich flavor and is very elegant. There are many varieties and breads to choose from. The chocolates can be taken home so you can take them home ✨✨. This is the best chocolate store in Vancouver that I have visited 😄

Went for the hot coco festival and got the pistachio flavour with a cherry financier. It was tasty and would recommend! I did order it with an espresso shot but I didnt taste the coffee at all. The “classic” mont blanc… um… like had an eggnog whip on the inside with a berry filling on a hard biscuit… the chestnut topping was a super thin layer and almost flavourless… not at all a classic at all… The cafe was packed inside, no one abides by the 6 person limit. There is outdoor heated seating. As others have said, a bit pricey and not worth the hype for the service and ambience, but worth a visit.

One of the best pastries and coffees you can get in the area. Very unique design with caring staff, we got Mochas and Espresso which is my favorite in this place.

Wow. Expensive but very very delicious. My favourite was the hazelnut praline, but the pumpkin pie was a very close second. Both weren't sickening sweet. They had a nice size also (desserts that are too big make you bored of them). Hazelnut praline had a very nice texture. The cream wasn't too heavy and you really can't go wrong with a hazelnut chocolate combo. I especially like the wafer base. Best pumpkin pie I've every had. The cream on top isn't sweet at all, which complements the generously spiced filling. The pie has a pastry crust, which is so good I would totally eat it just on its own. The other desserts were great as well! The Chocolate souffle was moist and rich in flavour. Absolutely heavenly for any chocolate lover! The almond mascarpone tasted like a tiramisu minus the chocolate. Tbh I didn't taste the almond. It was by no means bad. The cake was moist and the mascarpone was light and delicious. Pumpkin spice latte went great with the sweet cakes. The dark chocolate passionfruit cake was ordered by a friend and it looked delicious. Overall, pricey but very decadent desserts. You get what you pay for here. 1000% recommend!

The Galette des Rois wasn't quite right for a traditional recipe, it's a shame as it's not cheap and lacked some of the almond flavour I grew up with. One pet peeve, the "fēve" wasn't baked into the cake, but instead came in a seperate bag, which also isn't traditional (though I guess for those not familiar with this cake, could be an issue biting or swallowing it). You will need to manually hide it in.

Best almond croissants in Vancouver! Their lattes are also great. People say that this place is pricey but their prices are very fair in my opinion. A lot of pastry shops in Vancouver are more expensive than Thomas Haas, and considering how good their stuff is, I can’t complain! I recently tried their cherry pistachio hot chocolate for the hot chocolate festival and it was delicious. A lot of other shops offered drinks that were $9-12, so I was surprised that Thomas Haas offered the cheapest at $7.50. Their macarons are also very affordable, although they are definitely more known for their croissants and chocolates. I’ve been coming here for years, and I’ve always had a positive experience. Not a pretentious vibe at all. Staff are very kind, although I have noticed they had some trouble managing lineups because the inside of their shop is quite small. They are generally very busy, but always worth the wait! All the guests I’ve brought here enjoyed their experience. It’s a great place to bring people and show them around North Van.

After a few years drawing raves for his work in Vancouver, German born pâtissier Thomas Haas joined Daniel Boulud's flagship New York restaurant in 1998. Haas quickly gathered notices and awards. He explained to the New York Times, ''I'm not superconservative, but I strongly believe in classics." By 2005, Haas was back in Vancouver, offering classic pastries and indulgent chocolate creations at his own location in North Vancouver. A few years later, a second location opened in Vancouver's Kitsilano district. Our family shops the North Van store for special occasions or, if truth be admitted, for any time we judge ourselves worthy of a tasty treat. Just about everything is appealing so the main problem any customer has is deciding what to take home.

On a pricier side, but definitely well worth it. The place has been here forever, which is a solid indication of how delicious their pastries are. Macarons are fantastic. I love grabbing coffee and a sandwich from them and chilling at the nearby dog park with my lady friend & my pup
