Review The Italian Gourmet - Newmarket

Kayla Guida
As an Italian I tend to stay away from Italian restaurants as they generally fall short of my expectation on what "good" Italian food really is. I decided one day to take a chance on The Italian Gourmet and boy am I glad I did! The homemade pasta and bruschetta are by far my favourite; it takes me back to my many summers spend abroad in Italy. This hidden gem is one even Nonna would approve of! Ps. their brunch is also phenomenal and a must try!

Saw the sign and wanted to see what an Italian breakfast was (I think, weekends only for breakfast) So glad I went. Look at this platter! So good, not your typical breakfast. The vodka bacon sauce was delicious, was the rest of our breakfast. Cozy place, perfectly crafted latte (beautiful micro foam, smooth espresso) They were very nice and treated my 2 year old with respect. Highly recommend

Small and intimate. Stopped by for breakfast today. Had a veggie omlette and it was yummy and filling. I try not to eat pork so my choice was perfect. Of course I am not perfect so on my next visit I got the everything omlette with every kind of pork and veg. Super yummy. Only recommendation I wish they have goat cheese.

An absolute treasure, very authentic and the price for value is amazing. I had the Breakfast Feast and it was wonderfully fresh. These are the types of restaurants our subburbs need to cherish. Would reccomend to anyone!

The Italian Gourmet is in a cute little house, and is clean and bright inside. There is parking in the back for a small number of cars. The service was very pleasant. Based on reading previous reviews, I ordered 2 vodka pink sauce with Italian smoked pancetta. It was nice and hot, the portion size average. It was also the driest, most bland dish of pasta I have ever had. I had to do some serious hunting to find the few minuscule pieces of pancetta in there. I have had better meals out of a can. I ate about 1/3 of my portion and threw out the rest. I would not recommend this restaurant based on this meal. Perhaps other choices on their menu are better, but I am not tempted to find out.

I have been to many breakfast/Italian restaurants before, my wife and I eat out all the time and love to try new places. I would have to say that the Italian Gourmet by far, surprisingly, has the best breakfast we have tried in a while and there pasta as well is phenomenal, very flavourful and fresh ! My only suggestion is to open earlier for breakfast for the early birds out there like us, other than that this place will not disappoint. Superb service, quality, food and freshness award goes to.... Italian Gourmet.

I've been to this place several times over the past year it use to be pretty good, but the past couple months it's really gone down hill. Even the folks agreed. Always enjoyed the pasta here went recently for breakfast and it was terrible. Slow and the food was barely warm definitely wouldn't be back for breakfast. came back again for pasta for lunch this week and ordered the usual beef sauce and it too was terrible, tasteless and watery. Definitely not worth the $15 price tag. Don't know if they switched management but it's definitely not what it use to be. I'm only giving it two stars because they have a really good housemade berry lemon juice that I'd almost consider returning for.

Just had our grandson's baptismal celebration at Italian Gourmet. Felt like being at home without the work. Staff are amazing! Food is incredible. Very comfortable feel. We loved it there. Thanks to all the staff!

Our first visit for dinner at this restaurant and we were very impressed...the food is delicious. Don't let the humble exterior fool you, the quality is exceptional. I recommend making a reservation though, maximum capacity maybe 24 customers. Next we'll try breakfast or brunch.

Loved my pasta al pesto. Had it with the tomatoes which added a really nice acidity to the dish. Super fresh ingredients. Very pleasant atmosphere and extremely reasonable prices. Look forward to a return visit and perhaps trying the breakfast menu.

What a quaint little gem on our Main St. The service was great and friendly. Food was fabulous! My husband(Mike Pilote)and I went for dinner. We love the simplicity of the menu. They make it so easy for you... pasta noodles on one side and the sauces on the other~ both are colour coded so you can match to which they suggest are best paired. Great idea. They have also recently received their liquor license for those interested. We WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK

It was excellent. Giving 5 stars however would mean no room at all for improvement which is tough when Ive been around the business decades as I have. Perhaps groom the servers a bit more on etiquette - forks should always be set on the left of the knife for example. See, told you I'm tough. But overall very good and good ambience including music in theme. The dry pasta and sauces seem a nice idea if kept up. Maybe try that another time ! Bene!

Excellent Pasta Dishes! Fresh pasta! About 15 different sauces. Very quaint. The salad and appetizers were amazing. The waitress was very pleasant and nicely dressed but could have worn something more appropriate for an Italian family restaurant. We are going there every time we want Pasta.
