I work in a nearby mall. I eat Chirashidon at this restaurant once a week. Their food ingredients are very fresh. The food ingredients and taste are very good. The server is very kind. I highly recommend this restaurant

Tamago did not taste right. It was bland. I could taste a very old or burnt oil from fried cali roll and tempura. By saving some $ from keeping the burnt oil, you can lose customers as they will not come back. Plus, I found a piece of plastic on the top of my salmon roll. This was my first order and will be my last.

Their food is delicious! It's my dad's favourite sushi place and he's a very picky eater. Miso soup has a lot of seaweed and tofu which most restaurants don't include. Sushi is fresh tasting and their special rolls are really good.

Restaurant seems nice. We got take out, and saw many other take out orders. Portions were a bit small but good quality. The miso soup was creamy and had nice big pieces of seaweed. We ordered a variety of nigiri and had their House roll (regular tuna instead of spicy), which they easily accommodated.

Have been to Hi Dozo Sushi a couple of times now after shopping at the mall across the street. The food is hit and miss. The first few times we went, the food was of a seasoned sushi chef. The past couple times, we noticed the same chef in 2 instances where our sushi was thin, sloppy, and fell a part. Not at all what we had with the other chef. The service is also lack luster. When we walked in the last time, the host pointed in a general direction of being seated. Not led to a table like a proper host. We were not even sure if we were sitting at the right table. Asking for more tea, or the bill seemed like something we shouldn't have to do. The times the food was great were awesome, but the last few times made us not want to return.

Definitely one of my absolute favourite sushi restaurants… not just in New West 😁 Not only is the food great and very reasonably priced but the staff are so nice as well! The chefs always thank you before you leave and wave from the kitchen as they busily prepare food. You don’t encounter that often these days.

Reasonably priced, service was quick, staff was polite. But the whole table we were seated was sticky for some reason. Our bentos' tempura and sashimi were thinly sliced, and the 2 tea cups we were using happened to be chipped. :(

Oh wow, this is the best Japanese restaurant we've been to in New West! The flavours of the teriyaki sauce are perfect, the service is good and the tuna Maki are awesome (it's always my go-to roll). I even liked the Miso soup & I don't tend to enjoy it at any Japanese restaurant. Also, good pricing!!!

I've been a customer at this place since I moved to the area, so for about 5 years already and the service quality has been becoming gradually worse and worse. I used to love going to the place because the food is indeed good and I have picked my favourites over years. However, I don't feel like returning to the place anymore after a few cases that had made me truly disappointed. Not mentioning not bringing the tea/napkins, gradually more inattentive/busy staff that's been mentioned here already. What upsets me the most is that I don't feel valued as a permanent client and that I don't feel they aren't interested in my return. A couple of times when I asked to pick up food that I couldn't finish the waiter would casually throw a bag and styrofoam box on my table. That felt very not nice. But the last time became the last drop: I was standing in front of the cashier for 5 minutes while she was on the phone taking order and the waiter was dealing with dishes and tea in the further corner. Both ladies looked at me but made no welcoming/table suggesting signs. I would actually be okay with them smiling, nodding and offering to pick a table by myself with a hang gesture if they are that busy, but such indifference made me quite mad and I left. I've been visiting this place at least once a week and, like I said, am very happy with their food. Very sad, won't return there anymore.

Was here on a Friday for lunch. Was quieter than expected until the overflow from full neighbor Tamarind Hill came over. Should have heeded the sign of this being the backup spot. Service was fast but rolls were small and lunch combos didn't offer huge value in my eyes. 2 or 3 other sushi spots in walking distance too.
Hi Dozo is a MUST try.

The staff are amazingly friendly, make great recommendations, hours are great, prices reasonable for the sushi, and entrees.

The environment is clean and welcoming.

And the Food ... It will not disappoint. The sushi is so fresh and the rice rolled tight and thin so you don't feel heavy afterwards. It is plated beautifully and will have you wanting to gorge it and savour it at the same time! I have tried a variety of sushi, appetizers, and an entree to get a feel for consistency and never have they erred on taste, playing, or service... Which is rare in my books for sushi.

Kudos to the chefs and staff at hi Dozo , I have been back and will continue to return.

I've eaten an entire pint of Luna & Larry's vegan ice cream everyday for the past 3 days. I just can't help it okay. With this kind of weather, how can you not eat ice cream? I try to ignore the fact that each pint has 300% of your daily recommended saturated fat and a whopping 920 calories ~ hey, I'm still young right? I can totally get away with it ;)

Anyways, the weather was just too beautiful today, it would've been a pity to stay at home!! So I did what any sensible person would do...I WENT FOR SUSHI!! (Raymond would approve.)

We didn't want to venture too far from our house, so we decided to go to Hi Dozo for lunch!! Hi Dozo is a Korean run Japanese restaurant located in downtown New Westminster, directly across from Royal City Centre!! The service was super friendly; the waitress was polite and didn't seem bothered by the fact that we asked for one too many tea refills (5 in total.)

After lunch my mom and I went to Moody Park and explored the surrounding suburbs, admiring all the old houses (old houses are the best, they have so much character!!)

Amazing food! Try the angus roll and salmon passion. It's excellent! The staff are friendly. Tea was refilled often. Atmosphere is gorgeous.

Hi, Dozo Sushi. Okay, I admit that I used to think that your name meant that you were saying “Hi” to someone named “Dozo Sushi”. I don’t think that I’m too crazy… after all, you usually have a comma after the word “hi” and before someone’s name. As it turns out, “hai, dozo” roughly translates to “please, go ahead” or “go first” when you’re in polite conversation.

Was really hoping to find a place in New West that did sushi with brown rice well. Well the search continues. Ordered a dynamite roll from this place as a tester to see if they would prevail. Asked for extra ginger. I had my husband go and pick it up for me, well what can I say I was feeling lazy. To my displeasure, there was no ginger at all and no waisabi. To top it all off my sushi was falling apart. Sucks! :( I was really hoping for a better experience because the flavors were good, it was just all falling apart.

We just moved into the neighborhood and decided to try Hi Doza. I do love the fake cherry blossom tree at the front. When my tea came I noticed it was in a plastic cup, tea just does not taste right in plastic. Rainbow crab had the California roll box. She enjoyed it. I had chicken karage which was battered chicken thighs, I like it this way best. It was served with mustard sauce!? They had good flavour but a bit doughy. I had avocado roll, it was a standard roll. I also had asparagus roll. This roll I loved. It is close by so we will return. Nice service too.

The rest of the dinner combo came in a large lunch box. There wasn't a chance that I could refrain from having any of the tempura, because it looked and smelled good. At the very least, I had that healthy slice of watermelon plopped in the middle to balance things out!

Good food, good prices and decent service. We've been at least half a dozen times and have enjoyed it each time. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and the service is decent. We've also been given free appetizers a few times.

We took some family members last Christmas, including my father-in-law who swore he didn't like Japanese food. When his teriyaki bowl arrived, he happily cleaned the dish.

We've been here several times and we're always pleased with the service and food. Unfortunately - that was not the case this last time. A complimentary cooked piece of salmon was given (always a nice touch) and the service was friendly and attentive. The food had gone downhill. Not until we got our Gyozas did I remember they're Gyozas are terrible. They seem to be of the frozen variety and left in the freezer too long at that! The wild salmon sashimi had a weird aftertaste.

Perhaps we had come on an "off" day but I definitely recommend NO GYOZAS!

Mixed. The food was good I am sure fish and shell fish on top of mushy and soft rice just the way we like it. Water and drinks were slow and the waitress added zero value and was slow and not friendly. So didn't tip of course

My FAV local sushi place! Friendly and efficient service... Peanut Grinch Roll is a must-have.

HI NO NO. I have no clue why this place has high rating. Had lunch there. The bento box chicken terk.. was watery and the rolls were lose and tasteless. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy but it was packed with tuna! The rice t stick to the nori very well. The hoastess/waitress was clueless. and never smiled. forgot my spoon and took her forever to bring it upon me asking many times. i went up to the chef and asked him for one. the waitress spoke good english. They were a little over priced,I would not complain if it was good food. never got offered any water or tea. ill never go back.

New renos looking good.... This is as close to a Japanese sushi bar/rest as you may find in New West. Yes actually operated by a Japanese sushi chef and assistant.
No coloured sushi rice, great offerings of rolls and more rolls. From the traditional to the new era sushi favorites. They have many items not on the everyday "sushi" menu :)
Bento box at lunch is superb. Always specials to pick from ;)
Is it me or do servers not serve and pick up drinks/glasses on a tray any longer? My only bee-atch!
No Msg Please
Not so good. I wanted to test out the eats with an easy takeout of california rolls...very small portion, undercooked rice and WAY too chewy. Won't be going back

Very good. I like the tempuras and the cucumber rolls there. Tempuras are very delicious and also the grilled fish. The rolls need some improvement. Sometimes they are not very tight together, and they start to open when you eat them. All in all, the food is good and I highly recommend there.

Terrible Service, No Apology. I went for lunch with a medium sized group of people and received the worst service that I've ever had at a restaurant. We watched people who came in after us receive their meals, while ours took a full hour to get to the table. When they finally came half of them arrived cold. We received the wrong dishes multiple times, and never received others. We had to ask for water six times before it came to the table, and never received the pop that was ordered. The rolls were hastily made and falling apart.

All of the missing dishes and drinks were still on the bill and we had to pay tax on them because the server couldn't figure out how to deduct it.

Long wait, wrong meals, cold meals, and missing meals. We didn't even receive an apology for the poor service.

Needless to say, nobody from our office will be eating there again. I recommend that you avoid it as well.

The sashimi is the freshest I have had in New West. Their spicy sesame sauce is fantastic. Excellent ebi gyoza.

Hi Dozo japanese restaurant...?. 4 poorly wrapped rolls, 20$
the only thing nice I have to say about this place is that the tea was good (it was free too) and restaurant itself was very clean.
The service was just terrible. we were the only ones there at around 5pm on a week day, and it was so slow, it took 20 minutes to get tea, the waitress seemed very timid and shy , no eye contact nor smiles. the sushi chef spent our entire dinner on the cell phone shouting to someone in Japanese (or Korean)
we didn't get any refills even when we asked. we ordered 4 rolls to share, never got any plates or extra napkins.
the waitress just stood around the phone the whole time, never once asked if we needed anything, or how our meal was.
the menu was limited and pricey.
most likely will not be going back.

Nice place!. Hi Dozo was slow to grow on me, but grow on me it has. I gave it a second, then a third, chance, since it's located close to the New West Public Library, and getting a library book then heading next door for lunch is a nice routine. An excellent tuna tataki roll and a fancy suicide roll (a more expensive, and spicy option) are the stand-out menu items for me. Udon soups are generously portioned and also very good.

This is actually spelt wrong. But, I go here atleast once a week and I love it!!!
MISS VANCOUVER PIGGY
After being rejected at Tamarind Hill because the restaurant was booked for the night, we headed to the next restaurant which was across the street, Hi, Dozo Sushi. In general, every Korean restaurant, to be exact, Korean owned Japanese cuisine restaurant, is always friendly and welcoming. Some great examples are SushiUOmo , Tokyo Hon , Kaya Japanese and even Sushi California . But… walking into Hi, Dozo Sushi, the vibe felt like Congee Noodle King or even worse, Rose Garden . There were no greetings from the sushi chefs or a word from the waitress when we walked up. The restaurant seemed cold for a Saturday evening. Hi, Dozo Sushi is located in New Westminster and the restaurant is fairly spacious. There are wooden booth seating arrangements as well as seats by the sushi bar, and a large waiting area at the front. TORO SASHIMI ($11.99). The sashimi is the proper toro portion and the restaurant even removed the end pieces. However, the sashimi does not taste fresh and is missing that

I have yet to figure out what Hi Dozo actually means, and if this place is called Hi Dozo or Hi Dojo. In any event, the food is consistently good, the rolls are a bit more imaginative than your standard Dynamite/California combo, and the staff are incredi
