Review Pho Chan Vietnamese Restaurant - New Westminster

Munchica
Average acceptable Pho place. The Vietnamese sub was good but the meat and veggie toppings included were quite sparse in my opinion. The Beef Pho was typical tasting. The vermicelli bowls are alright. The spring rolls are okay... Lots of stuffing but very soggy and greasy too. Not bad but nothing spectacular.

Pretty darn good I must say. The food was hot and well presented .Appart from getting up to get my own menu, the service was ok. They're doing all of the covid protocols btw so don't be surprised. Watch out for the parking. Some spots are 15 min only and you will be ticketed( sign on the door ).

This is my first time to eat at this restaurant. My grilled lemongrass chicken noodle is good. Chicken put separate on a side.

The pho here was amazing , the broth was so hot and fresh. Their customer service was amazing the moment I stepped in. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants authentic vietnamese food.

I WON’T GO HERE NEVER EVER AGAIN. The ingredients were not that fresh at all and the staff was terribly so rude. She never talked. She just nodded when she needed to say something.

Update: My boyfriend ordered from here again. For the fourth time, 4 out of 4 now, they forgot something. This time they left out the bean sprouts, basil, and lime. I tried to call and nobody will pick up the phone. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ordering take out from here. ---------- Food is good but the service is terrible. Staff can be seen just chatting with each other while and not acknowledge customers even though they had seen us. Tried to get take out on 3 seperate occasions. 3 out of 3 times, an item is missing when ordering pho. First time basil and bean sprouts were missing, second time were the noodles,, and third time was the meat. Tried calling but they wouldn't answer their phones so had to drive back for missing items. When letting them know things were missing, staff was annoyed and offered nothing else in return. If you're to order take out, open your bags and check all the contents within the containers to make sure everything is there.

This place used to be the best pho place but not anymore. It was our favourite pho place for several years. The pho we ordered this time was totally different than before. They also have new servers now.

This is my favourite Pho place ever. I love # 60, the Spicy Huế Beef Noodle Soup. Its always so good every time , same with the crispy spring rolls and salad rolls. So delicious I crave it all year round. Very reasonable prices and great service. thank you!

Restaurant was extremely busy at lunch time so I decided to grab some take out. Ordered some fried spring rolls and a rice dish with pork chops and lemongrass chicken, food was hot and surprisingly had lots of meat too!

My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Friday night after being recommended by 2 friends who live down the street and pleased to say we we're not disappointed! My boyfriend ordered the BBQ Lemongrass Chicken & Springrolls on rice & I got the Spicy Sour Soup with Prawns and Vermicelli. It was delicious!! We will definitely be back // Also the washrooms we're clean which is always a good sign.

3.5. The pho is decent, but we really like the Bun Bo Hue (no blood in this one), it is spicy and flavourful. The meat is very tender as well. We also like their salad and spring rolls. This place gets busy during peak meal hours so be ready to wait.

Our lunch at Pho Chan was a fun and much-enjoyed, recent first-time dining experience. We were in Sapperton, New Westminster for an early-morning medical appointment, the restaurant was not far away, and its opening time of 10 am really appealed to us. When we got there, shortly before 10 am, lights were on inside, open sign had not been turned on, but the door was unlocked — we were inside, seated, reading the menu, and enjoying our first mugs of hot tea (brought to us directly from the kitchen) before our server arrived! No problem for all concerned, and for us, it was perfect, and provided a little extra time to relax, enjoy some delicious tea, and decide on what to order.

Impressions of the restaurant — clean (including washrooms), neat, and tidy. One tv ‘on’, sound low, no music that I can recall. Nice spacing of the tables - arranged around the perimeter, and down the middle of the premises. Wall decorations simple and colourful. For us, a nice ‘feel’ to the place.

Service was great. Our server was very friendly and pleasant, and took good care of us throughout our stay.

What was ordered and shared (w/menu numbers) — Appetizers - #1 - springs rolls (one order - two rolls, w/dipping sauce), #2 - salad rolls (one order - two rolls, w/peanut dipping sauce), and #4 - deep-fried chicken wings (w/dry, spicy mixture) — Pho - #22 - seafood w/egg noodles soup (large size, w/prawns, squid, and fish balls, plus, fresh garnish of bean sprouts, mint, and lemon slice) — Vermicelli - #30 - grilled lemongrass chicken and spring roll on vermicelli noodles (w/fresh salad - sliced cucumber, carrot, lettuce).

These offerings really hit-the-spot for “our kind of” late-breakfast/early-lunch. Presentations were appealing to the senses, and all dishes very well-prepared - the dishes provided a nice range of distinctive textures, tastes, and flavours. Crisp outside, moist inside, tasty chicken wings. Rolls were very special - salad rolls, so crispy-fresh and plump, spring rolls prepared differently from any I had ever been served before, non of that greasy, flaky batter, just a thin, light ‘pastry-like skin’, and each stuffed to the brim with flavourful ingredients, and a very tasty peanut sauce for dipping. The seafood pho was another big hit - broth light, and flavourful, and all ingredients so well-prepared, and with the extra fresh garnishes, such a tasty treat. Much of the vermicelli dish had to come home with us (I had done my usual thing, and ordered too much), but some noodles, most of the chicken, and some salad was eaten at the restaurant - the chicken was very tasty and tender, salad cool, crisp, and fresh, and vermicelli noodles perfectly prepared (my lady and I enjoyed leftovers as a snack dinner at home that eve).

We sure enjoyed our visit to Pho Chan — the restaurant’s “our kind of place” ambiance, friendly and accommodating staff and service, and the well-prepared food, that “tickled our senses”, and offered such flavourful taste treats. Thanks guys!!

Went here for a quick dinner. Service was OK. I was very happy with my veggie noodle soup! The broth is amazingly delicious, and the smaller bowl is very filling!

The beef bone broth is well prepared which one can tell it's different from those that's solely MSG additive. The noodle is decent and the ingredient is fresh. Not surprisingly amazed, but certainly it's one of the best Vietnamese restaurant for Pho in New Westminster.

Pho Chan is a newish (well, newish to me) Vietnamese restaurant that’s located in the former Salty’s Fish & Chips site in Royal Square Mall in New Westminster. They’ve done a bit of renos inside this spacious cafe, including painting the walls a bright lime green colour. On my first visit, I decided to try their Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Spring Roll on Vermicelli ($10.95) Bun Cha Gio, Ga Nuong Sa.

Thanks to Skip the Dishes we ordered Pho chan for the first time, delivered. The spring rolls were so good! Loved that they deep fried them in rice paper. Lots of stuffing, lots of minced veggies and mea@t. Pho broth had lots of flavour. Hefty amount of beef brisket. Chicken wings were super crisp and not seasoned. It came with their own seasoning to dip. Chicken bahn mi was tasty. The bread was soft not too chewy.

Been there once and will keep it that way. First of all the service was very slow, my mom and I walked in and the waiter had a hard time trying to seat us at a clean table, since they were behind on the cleaning. Then we couldn't even get the waiter's attention to bring menus at least 10mins later. Secondly, my pho that I ordered was great, the broth wasn't too salty and my salad rolls were very fresh and had crispy vegetables. My mom on the other hand ordered a classic pork banh mi sandwich. The bread was extremely hard and stale, to the point where she couldn't eat it. If a vietnamese restaurant can't make a banh mi sandwich, well ya know something is wrong. Overall, if you ever try out this restaurant make sure you stick to the pho!

Hehehe, I'm SO stoked a pho place opened up in my neighbourhood!! New Westminster needs more Vietnamese restaurants...or more restaurants in general :D. @Anonymous commented on another one of my posts: The words "pho" and "chan" don't go well together, sounds like a fake pho joint. Be cautious with this one.

So I decided to test his theory. When I went in to pick up my order, I observed the staff: they were all speaking Vietnamese and well...they looked Vietnamese haha! So my guess is that Pho Chan is a legit pho joint!

I'm planning on going back to try their lemongrass chicken/pork, cause you guys know...I'm ALL about that lemongrass chicken!! And, I really want to try their bahn mis! I also want to reorder their pho to see if there's a difference between the takeout version and the dine in version!

I don't even think this place is listed on Zomato yet! So I posted a menu (below) for you guys to reference!

Been here three times since it opened about a month ago. Smallish place (can seat 20 people or so) but not cramped (could maybe add a table or two?). First time, had the house special sub sandwich (Banh mi dac biet) and salad roll for takeout. Salad roll was fine (not exceptional). Sub was your usual vietnamese sub with added beef brisket pieces. Really liked that sandwich (and at 4.50, a steal). Saw this picture on the menu of a reddish soup (spicy beef noodle soup (Bun bo hue)) that looked super tasty. Promised I'd come back to try it...

Second time, came with two co-workers. Looking over the menu, I was struck by the fact that almost every item had beef. Not a big beef fan, and the guy (owner, I think) seemed to really want us to eat something with beef. We'll okay. I'd wanted to try that Bun bo hue but it wasn't available at the time. Had something else I can't remember (a noodle dish with pork and of course, beef) but it was good (again, not exceptional, but good enough).

Third time, came with about five co-workers. And this time, the Bun bo hue, was available. Had it and it was really good. Not excessively spicy, had all the subtle flavors I expect in vietnamese food. Forgot what everyone else had, but everyone was satisfied.

Service is good. Prices are not bad. Really hope these guys stick around for a bit; this neighbourhood doesn't have a lot of food choices, and I'd be happy if I can have this soup every couple weeks (or more often).

UPDATE Feb 2017: I've been here several times since the first time, and I'm bumping up my rating from 4 to 4.5. Why the average rating is a 3.0 is beyond me. The other people who took the time to actually write reviews of this place were overwhelmingly positive, 4+. Looks to me like a few people just decided to trash the place by giving it 1 or 2 stars without even bothering to write a review. Sure, maybe they had a bad experience. I understand that. It can happen, but it's unfair to both the restaurant AND potential customers to not give any explanation why they gave such a low rating. And I want to add the bun bo bue at Pho Chan is my benchmark for this dish. Huge portion, great flavor. Thank you, Pho Chan.
