Review Saigon Ivy - New Westminster

The flavour, color, and freshness in this BBQ Chicken & spring roll on vermicelli is so appetizing! The spring roll is nice and crispy. BBQ chicken is very well grilled with the right amount of char. Veggies are well prepped and fresh. They’re always consistent and delicious. I cannot recommend them enough - definitely my go to neighborhood viet restaurant in new west!

This is a great little spot. I had the BBQ pork, Spring roll on Vermicelli noodles and it was delicious. I liked the vegetables that came with it and the pork was full of flavour.

Wow what a great BBQ pork banh mi. Lots of meat and really flavourful. Homemade chili oil is rock in’ too - great place for Vietnamese food in new west

The food was delicious. I ordered combo c1. The price stated for 13.95 but when i wanna pay suddenly it up to 15.95. I asked him nicely but he refuse to admit its 13.95 while its stated clearly in the menu for 13.95. I know it was only 2$ different but its kinda sketchy not to mentioned it in the beginning. And yeah i thought it was increase price whatsoever but both of my friends got the price for what it said in the menu. I found it super weird. He just said no no no its not 13.95. Anyway i still paid for the price he asked since i don't wanna fight for 2$ difference, but still that's not how you have a business here.

One of the best banh mi sandwiches I’ve ever tried… the BBQ pork banh mi sub is a must try! Super flavourful and is a good quick lunch for on the go at a really good price!

Food is amazing. I did try various items on the menu and not once was I disappointed. The quality has been there for over last few years. The owner is such a friendly person and remembers the regulars. Highly recommend this place.

Best Vietnamese food we've had! Staff is very friendly. Flavors are very delicate and natural. Tried the chicken wings, fried squid, house special pho and #36 on the menu, and everything was so fresh and beautifully plated. We recommend this place 100%.

I love this little family owned place. The owner is always there and the food is always fresh and tastes great. Prices are good as well, you really can't go wrong here :)

Didn't have a good experience here. We had to wait a long time to have our order taken. The pho itself was not the best. Noodles were soggy and the broth didn't have that deep flavour that we were looking for. We won't be back.

Pan Fried Lemongrass Beef on Vermicelli $10.50 ~ 牛肉咬起來比較韌,味道尚可

BBQ Lemongrass Chicken, Spring Roll, and Fried Egg on Rice $11.50 ~ 這份烤雞又硬又乾,相信是將預先燒好的雞件重新加熱所致,感覺非常失望

I am new to the New West area and wanted to have Pho. I googled restaurants and thus came up - So why not try it. The interior was clean and it was busy.

I had pho soup #21 - rare beef with tendon soup. And though it was a large portion, I found the tendon to be more gelatinous than I have had at other places and the rare beef to be more tough than other places. The soup base was fairly nice overall.

Then we tried the prawn salad rolls. I love prawn salad rolls but I feel they weren't as nice here. Some places do not add that much lettuce and meat; having it fall apart in your hands. This place added too much lettuce and not enough noodles. It was wrapped well and did not fall apart. Another downside was the peanut sauce had no hoisin flavour to it and was fairly bland.

We also had vegetarian spring rolls that when presented to us were falling apart. You could smell the vinegar coming from the sauce, which I didn't appreciate but tasted good anyhow.

Overall it was a decent place. Servers were nice and polite.

THERE WAS A FUCKING HALF INCH LIVING SLUG IN MY BBQ PORK AND SPRING ROLL VERMICELLI! WTF?!

All the manager said was "sorry" and I had my dish paid for but it would have been proper (I think) if the whole meal was free. Plus when we went to pay I peeked inside their kitchen and it was super dirty and garbage all over the floor not even near it's trash can.

I AM NEVER EATING HERE AGAIN! I SUGGEST THE SAME FOR ALL OF YOU!

Home of the world's smallest Banh Mi! I have never seen one so small.

Copious amounts of MSG abound.

I have been here several times, trying to give the benefit of the doubt. Today my Ice coffee arrived after my meal was finished and it was a combo! I was ready to leave as it arrived. It was a waste and turned out to be a forced sale. I was the only one in the place so no excuses.

In the past other memorable things have happened. They have "forgotten" to include "all" the items in my Pho. Seems like they are more concerned with their margin than providing decent service and value.

I sit here with dry mouth and very tired after the Pork Banh Mi today. Signs of MSG overload. Won't be going back. 5 strikes your out! Lots of choice just up the road on Kingsway.

Immaculate premises, quick service and excellent Vietnamese food. I usually go there to have a warm and comforting bowl of Pho. I definetly recommend this place.

Saigon Ivy is located on bustling 6th Street in New Westminster. Named after the largest city in Vietnam (now officially known as Ho Chi Minh City), this Vietnamese eatery has tall ceilings which helps to make the interior seem more spacious. The interior is clean and relatively nice. Like many Vietnamese restaurants, a supply of condiments and utensils are available at every table.

New menu updated as of October 2015! Nice family owned and operated place. PROS: Nice large menu with items that you don't always see at other Vietnamese restaurants like "Chicken cabbage salad", "Vietnamese Pancake" "chicken pho(which actually uses a chicken broth)" Also, salad rolls are huge! CONS: Spring rolls are uninspired generic bulk frozen items from some warehouse, would be nice to have some hand rolled deep fried rice sheet spring rolls instead, but they don't have that. CONCLUSION: Service is friendly and fast, and food is decent but not the best I've had. I will return.

Excellent Vietnamese food here especially considering there isn't many good Vietnamese places in the Burnaby/New West area! The portions are very decent for the price, and the restaurant is very clean and even air conditioned! I would highly recommend you try out their barbecue meats. Very well marinated and usually perfectly cooked! I love the classics #34 #37 and #38, Grilled Pork, Chicken, and Beef on Vermicelli respectively. Some of them comes with a spring roll that is packed with vegetables and pork, it's not very salty so you will need the fish sauce for that. The #40 Grilled Pork Chop on Rice is also to die for. Their soups are very well flavoured. "Bland" is never a word that comes to mind when eating here! Their regular soups, I usually get the #14, while not super clear, is very meaty tasting and flavourful. All the meat that they use in the soups are well sliced and perfectly tender. Out of the many pho places I have patronized, they are in the top three for their pho meat!! Personally though, I much prefer the alternate soups such as #20 Hot and Sour Seafood Soup, and our all-time favourite #31 Bun Bo Hue. I have to say, without trying Cafe Xue Hue yet, that this is one of three places I know that has the best Bun Bo Hue soup!! The others being Lotus in Richmond, and Pho Tam at Surrey Central. In summary, if you love tasty grilled meat and strong flavourful broth, this is definitely the place for you!! Happy eating :)

Terrible food. The "fried chicken" wasn't crispy or fresh. It had a rather disgusting skin and tasted like rubber gone bad. The vermicelli noodles were too dry and warm for a salad dish. Salad rolls were broken and again warm noodles don't work. Perhaps the only saving grace was a decent spring roll. Will never return.

Saigon Ivy was our (as a threesome) go to place for lunch after a medical appointment earlier this week - we arrived just as it opened at 11am. This was a first time visit to this small, and relatively-new Vietnamese restaurant located on the 'main drag' in uptown New Westminster. We had been wanting to try it, finally got the opportunity, and must say, we were delighted with our dining experience.

The restaurant is small, with four, fixed, 'booth-like' (4-place) tables on the one side, and two rows of four (2-4 place) tables per each, occupying the rest of the interior space (these tables are not fixed in place, thus, can be moved about somewhat to accommodate 'groups' larger than four, and etc.). The restaurant (including washroom) was very clean and tidy. Service of menus, tea, utensils, condiments, and etc., was done from a counter and cabinets at the back, just in front of the kitchen. The kitchen area itself had a curtain hanging over the door, so was mostly out of view to diners.

Service to our table was prompt and friendly, and our server very helpful-to-the-cause when it came to ordering. It's a quite extensive menu, and with us still being novices when it comes to ordering Vietnamese fare, the help was sure appreciated!!

What we ordered, and shared:

- tea (as provided).

- appetizers: #12 - deep fried squid, and #13 - deep fried chicken wings.

- vermicelli: #35 - spring rolls, bbq minced pork, and grilled chicken, on vermicelli, w/green salad -- #36 - grilled slice pork, prawns, and spring roll on vermicelli, w/green salad. A fish-based sauce was provided on the side - a nice touch, as one could then govern how much to use, when/if desired.

The servings were rather large, preparations good, and presentations nice, and especially so for the vermicelli dishes, with the fare so colourfully-arranged in large bowls. For daughter and I, the squid was a big hit - it was so well-prepared, tender, flavourful, and tasty, with just enough spice 'heat' to bring the taste buds into play!! For Mom, the wings were a personal delight! We all really enjoyed the vermicelli dishes - the meats were prepared very nicely, so tender, and tasty, the vermicelli noodles 'yum' with flavours from the meats and other 'fixings', and the salads so bright, fresh, and crisp!!

There was very little left on the plates or in the bowls when we finished dining (just a small touch of vermicelli and a couple of wings to bring home) - a "good sign" that we did indeed enjoy our lunch!!

Our first time dining experience at Saigon Ivy was fun and much-enjoyed - food and presentations were a delight to the senses, and the service very friendly and helpful. More please!! I'm sure we will be back soon.

Awesome pho. This place just opened up not too long ago and it couldn't have come at a better time. I have had their rare beef and tripe pho 3 times already and can't get over how great it is! The broth is light and fresh with a generous amount of beef. .could use a little more tripe but still enough to satisfy the taste buds. Huge portion with plenty of garnish including some fresh jalapeños. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to try some great Vietnamese food. .BBQ pork sub is very tasty as well. Perfect balance. New West desperately needed a place like this especially at that location. Hope it stick around for a long time.

Finally, good Vietnamese in New West!. Went with my girlfriend and shared everything. We ordered the fried tofu, shrimp salad roll, lemongrass beef over noodles, and beef and meatball pho. The lemongrass beef was incredible, the meat was tender and flavorful. The meatballs in the pho were a little tough, so I think next time I'll order it without. The salad roll was fresh and crisp, and the peanut dipping sauce was presented beautifully, with shredded vegetables and peanuts on top. The tofu was well seasoned, and didn't require any sauce. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean, even the washroom and (what I could see of) the kitchen looked spotless. I'll definitely return with friends.
