Review Anny's Dairy Bar - New Westminster

First time here today and not the last. Had the classic poutine, cheeseburgers, Montreal smoked meat sandwich, vanilla soft serve, hurricane ice cream, banana split. Great spot and we inhaled everything. Will come back soon!

Their maple butter on soft serve is unique and tasty. The vanilla soft serve reminds me of Costco soft serve but here it has maple swirls. They also have poutine and pineapple Fanta so it's like a great place to treat yourself to comfort food. The service was also very friendly :)

Hands down the best soft serve ice cream I ever had in my existence! The maple swirl is to die for! Poutine is incredibly tasty and I am so glad our friends told us about this place. And we live in New West!!

Came here for the poutine but was blown away by the vibe. The lady (owner?) behind the counter was incredibly friendly. There seemed to be a lot of regulars and she seemed to know them all personally and chatting with them like old friends. But what I wasn't expecting was feeling like I was in Montreal. Everyone in the little restaurant was speaking French to each other and having a good time. Small burgers. Tasty poutine. Will have to come back next time to try their soft serve ice cream.

Ok, seriously, everyone should stop by Anny's. The Montreal smoked meat was melt in your mouth and seasoned properly. The poutine was out of this world. The fries are fresh cut and fried, organic cheese curds, and the gravy was delicious. Polished it all off with a Mapletwist cone, phew....best bang for your buck.

I'd heard about this place for a while and decided to drive here all the way from Surrey this past weekend. Let's just say the trip was worth it. The owner was really friendly and was quick to get us our orders. The maple ice cream really hit the spot and was the perfect size (we got smalls), especially since it was so hot that day! I'll definitely be dropping by again and will probably get some poutine too. :)

Love this place. Cute little Canadian owned place. The poutine here is amazing! The ice cream is superb especially when the maple swirl is added. Absolutely one of the most Canadian places I can think of here in the lower mainland. Highly recommended to everyone I know!

The owner is always there and friendly. In a area increasingly becoming surrounded with franchises, this one independent shop stands out - the poutine is the tops (and its authentic cheese curds) and the maple ice cream has plenty of flavor. The staff is friendly and has a small town vibe. Worth a try for sure.

The first time we tried to hit up Anny’s Dairy Bar was for their maple twist soft serve. Unfortunately for us, their machine wasn’t open for the season yet. It’s puzzling that their soft serve isn’t offered year round. Sign outside. Saw quite a few grannies order just the steamie special.

The best, most authentic poutine in town. If you’re looking for that squeaky cheese experience, this is where you’ll find it. Maple twist cones are also a must try. Owner is super friendly - super hard worker. Good place to practice your French

Yummy poutine and hotdogs for a cheap price. Great service for a good price. Will have to try the ice cream next time! You will be able to find street parking nearby.

Have been a fan of this place, not just because of the name is my nickname but also, have really good memories associated here. Tried their maple swirl ice cream. The small was pretty big & just as impressive! Can’t wait to try their poutine, have been reading very good things!

I love ice cream and I love maple syrup but…TOGETHER? When I first caught wind of this little unassuming storefront in New Westminster’s Uptown, I marked it down on my list of MUST TRY’S! Anny’s dairy bar is located a few blocks away from Royal City Centre, and boasts not only Maple Twist Soft Serve but also a variety of Steamie Hot Dogs and Smoked Meat Sandwiches!

• finally had the chance to come by and try their famous maple twist...
- comes in a cup, cone or waffle cone (0.75) extra. So for a small in a cone is 4.90 pretty pricey but hey Maple syrup is expensive and it comes from Quebec
- soft serve ice cream, nothing unusual taste, pretty similar to those of McDonalds ... I think. However the addition of maple to it makes it wonderful and exciting. I like it 4/5! Not sure if I’ll have one anytime soon, its one of those that you wanna get on a hot sunny day
• I have not tried their poutine but I heard lots of good things about it.
• They sell cheese curds, yes it comes from Quebec. Squeaky, yummy cheese!
• pay street parking or park along side streets and walk over

best burgers and hot dogs in new west.
and anny is hot. win win. definitely the place to hit up when you're in the area.....................

We have lived in New West for over a year and finally tried Anny's Dairy Bar. I had a steamie with the works and a poutine. Wow..that was the best little hot dog I have ever had! The poutine too was excellent. Rainbow crab had fries with half a smoke Montreal meat sandwich. She said the sandwich was excellent! Of course we had the soft ice cream with maple swirl for dessert. Oh wow it was delicious. Rich tastey and amazing. What a gem of a little place.

Good Poutine and steamies. Reminds me of quebec!
Maple twist ice cream is the best in the summer. Annie always speaks french to me when I go in and it makes me happy!

Nice and cozy place, that's very clean! It can get quite cramped during peak hours, but so worth it! Their poutine and all dressed steamie are great! Gotta try the maple twist next time!!

One of my favourites! I love stopping by.

The Maple Twist cone is my favourite menu item (and I'm sure it's the same for others)! I *have to* get this every time. I will make the drive here just for this cone.

They also make a mean poutine! Fries are good (I'm a huge lover of fries). The gravy is flavorful and not salty like other poutines I've had. Grab the combo with the two steamies (hot dogs) and you've got the perfect meal!

I wish they'd open up another location, preferably closer to me! Lol

Anny's is my favourite place to go for poutine and ice cream. Being from the East Coast, this place definitely brings a bit of home to the West Coast. The atmosphere is also super friendly. I have been a loyal customer for the 10 years I've lived here so far, and always will be!

Kept hearing about this place so I finally tried it. We had the poutine and maple twist ice-cream. It was really good! You know this place is authentically Québécois when you hear the owner lady speaking to her young daughter who is tending to the till in French. I like supporting small businesses like Anny's Dairy Bar.

Anny's is a experience like no other in metro Vancouver. Old school. Super friendly super good fast food. Cheap lunch . 1.25 hot dogs .
Really nice maple twist ice cream. There's nothing else like it .
The only negative I have to say is it gets dirty . All in all tho classic and cheap fun

A friend of ours took us there becoz he raved about their Maple Twist. We all got a generous medium sized cone and he was right! Unique tasty Twist! Not comparable to Wendy's vanilla or chocolate twist. We will be back 😊

I've had a lot of really good poutine's in downtown but what sets this place apart from all the rest is their cheese curds and gravy. Her gravy and cheese curds are straight from Quebec. Also I don't really like maple ice cream, but her maple twist is so good I crave for it. The maple syrup is real and it's not too sweet, also the ice cream she uses is top quality. If she were looking for some constructive criticism it would be to up her French fries game. Costco fries are better. But decent.

I originally come from Québec, Anny's is probably the only place in the Lower Mainland where you will experience the same taste and quality of Poutine as you would back in La Belle Province.
Kimmysomefood
Kept hearing about this place since I moved to the area! Finally got to try it and the maple twist cone was so good!! I have to say service was not really good but I'm only getting ice cream so I can't complain!
Faihai
Had the Maple Twist, and it was really good. The Island Farms ice cream plays a big part in that. No weird aftertaste as well. The cone is like the ones I remember having in the 80s. Could be better. I will come back to try other menu items.

When I entered this little establishment, they greeted me in both anglais et français. A nice little touch, considering I came here because I was missing Montréal.
Poutine was awesome! The curds squeaked and the gravy was thick and dark, how I like my poutine gravy. I had better in Montreal, but Anny's was terrific for the West Coast. I also ordered the maple shake. It was pretty good, but not enough maple.
I plan to return here to try the maple twist cone, maybe have some poutine, and purchase a can of maple syrup!

I love this place. I've only discovered it about 3 months ago and I've been back every other week or so. Smoked meat Poutine and the maple twist cone is a must try! I can't emphasize it enough. Really small and cute mom and pop shop hidden in dt nw!

I've heard great things about Anny's maple soft served ice cream and was finally able to stop by and I wasn't disappointed at all. There was so much flavor and taste to it I almost went back to get a second. The Girlfriend ended up getting the Hurricane(Anny's version of the blizzard) and it was better then DQ. I can't wait to go back to try the smoked meat and poutine, they also sell gravy, maple syrup and Cheese curd's from Quebec if you want to make your own at home.

We went there with our 3 kids and everyone left happy, which is a small feat with picky children! Between us we shared a pouting (which we still didn't finish, it was huge). A couple of us had steamies ($1.25 hot dogs, whaaaat?). 2 burgers (to die for patties). A 1/2 Montreal smoked meat sandwich (delicious, and I'm glad I got a half as there is no way I could eat a full). 3 maple twists and 2 chocolate sundaes later, and we can't wait for our next visit! And Anny is awesome, that woman is a machine, and so sweet!

Blechhh to service & the food - got a steami hot dog that was two different colors, they better hope the food inspectors don't order a hot dog at this place.

Anny’s Dairy Bar is a dessert store in New Westminster just a 20 minute drive from Vancouver! It looks like a small scale store run by ma and pa, hiring high school students part time for help! The establishment has very few tables, but I’d assume people are more inclined to grab their ice cream and enjoy the sun. They specialize in maple twist soft serve ice cream! I’ve been here once before and decided to go for a nice drive to get some yummy dessert! Of course I had to get the maple twist ice cream for true Canadian treat! They say its unique to British Columbia and I cannot confirm that, but I haven’t ever seen it served anywhere else. The ice cream is actually really good, really smooth and not too sweet. The maple flavour is a bit lacking I believe, but still great tasting ice cream! I’d prefer Anny’s ice cream over Soft Peak’s ice cream any day! It doesn’t have the glitz and glam of Soft Peaks, but they have some damn good ice cream! They give you good portions as well! The picture above was a small cone, really great value! Overall I give Anny’s Dairy Bar 8/10. They could improve on the service, there was only one young boy working and he was running the tills, making ice cream as well as cooking in the back kitchen. We went on a weekday and it was pretty deserted there, so that may be the result of the lack of employees… I’m sure they may have more staff in the summer! I would definitely go back and maybe come for lunch, looks like they make a great poutine, I’m just a little hesitant on canned gravy… but definitely worth a try! 49.214924 -122.922825 722 Sixth Street, New Westminster, BC V3L 3C5, Canada Share this:

Updated review - I visited Anny's again today and again we had a very positive experience.
Super friendly service and tasty French fries, all-beef hotdogs all followed by their signature maple twist soft serve ice cream.
Highly recommended and guaranteed I will return to Anny's.

I went to Anny's to see how their poutine and smoked meat sandwiches measured up against other poutines in Metro Vancouver. I am pleased to say that the poutine was a clear winner with a nice and deep flavoured gravy that was poured over the real cheese curds. The fries were good, not great. But the overall effect of the fries, real cheese curds and gravy made them a winner.

The smoked meat sandwich was also very good. Not as great as the smoked meat sandwich I get from over on 12th Street in New West but a very solid sandwich that satisfied my lunch time hunger.

I will be returning to Anny's to try the maple twist ice cream they serve and to have another heaping plate of their poutine. Recommended.

Most amazing customer experience...I have to share this..... I normally don't write a review unless it really made an impact for me, but this time I have to leave this here. My wife and I became a huge fan of Maple Twist for about the past two years now, and staff have always been kind to very kind every time we visited. We endured this very long winter time without Maple twist and have been waiting for March to come so we can enjoy Maple Twist again (we called Anny's a few times to ask when Maple Twist will be available, hah!). Finally we confirmed the long waited beginning of Anny's Dairy Bar's serving Maple Twist, and we went there last Friday. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the ice-cream machine, and Anny (the owner) kindly offered Chocolate ice-cream with their famous Maple butter on it for $2 each, and we accepted the offer. Although it was not what we expected and waited, I have to say the chocolate soft ice-cream was still smooth, chewy and delicious. The next day, we decided to call again to see if the new ice-cream machine decided to work, and a male staff member confirmed that the Vanilla Maple Twist is available. We left about 30 mins after the call, and the guy at Anny's said that the machine decided to give up again so we had to come back without enjoying one. I know I am writing too much now, but here's the amazing part (in this era of profit focused business). I got a call from Anny's Dairy Bar, and it was Anny who called me on the phone, apparently tracking every number on the call display after hearing about our story from her Male staff. She apologized, provided explanation of what's been happening, and offered a very generous gift certificate for my family as a gesture of apology for our making a trip out there (I live not too far away by the way, and I even told Anny about this). I was blown away about this. I am not sure how often you get a call from the owner of the business following up to track down a customer who did not get two ice-cream cones, but this was the first for me. Aside from her offering generous gift certificate, what blew me away was her sincere heart to care for everyone who steps into her store, and following up with it. Yes, I know I am writing this on Urbanspoon, and if you want my review on their food, you must try Maple Twist (beats soft peak, and other non-soft-ice-cream places like Ernest, Rain or Shine), and their poutine is pretty good as well. If you want to support the business run by an owner with genuine heart for great customer experience and passion for what she serves, Anny's Dairy Bar is the place. Thanks, Anny. It was very kind of you to make that call.

Ok this is not something one would eat daily and maintain any semblance of health but I gotta tell you, her Montreal Smoked Meat and her fries and poutine are simply the greatest Ouest of La Belle Province! Simply and sinfully delicious!

Direspectful to the customers in New Westminster. I got a greasy, flat, smeared in mustard burger and when I returned it I got sarcastic remark that I was too fussy and no one else thought their burgers were bad. She would not let me show the other customer that was suppose to like their burger and though I got money back she ordered me out of her dive cause she didn't like been told about the burger being a mess. She had no right to tell a customer they were fussy. What if what was left on my burger (mustard) that I didn't want , I was allergic to? How is that being fussy. I am a senior and she should not be in this business.

Maple twist is soooo creamy! Worth the trip if you're far! I say go for the medium or large. I got the small cone and left wanting another. Haha.. Also, seems like a local favorite. Lots of people came in while we were eating in.

Maple Twist is delish!. Maple twist is so good! A must try :)

Everything is great. The poutine is great, the smoked meat is great, the maple twist ice cream is to die for. Event he 'Montreal style' hotdogs are great. Who knew coleslaw worked on a hotdog?

Just try to avoid the high school lunch rush.

Sunshine, rainbows, and happiness. This place is the epitome of dairy awesomeness!!!!!!!! but not just dairy, their fries and montreal smoked meat sandwiches are the bomb! every time I come here ( which sadly is not very often), I always get their " maple twist ice cream" A MUST! , a poutine, and a bag of cheese curds. SO GOOD. mouth watering just thinking about it.

Delicious poutine with a maple milkshake. This place is the best in my opinion. Love it

Quality burgers and poutine. Went to Anny's for a burger and poutine after a friend recommended it to me. I've lived in the area for 15 years and never tried Anny's before. Both the cheeseburger and poutine I had were very good for the price, and nothing tasted premade, even the burger patty itself. I would much rather have burger here than Wendy's across the street! I believe you'd be spending the same money anyways!

Authentic Québecois cantine in BC, good fries (believe cooked in lard), decent steamies and copies of le journal de montréal to browse through.

Get the maple ice cream twist!. Yummm... got the small size and it was pretty big already. Wished there was more maple syrup but this is quite good already. Would like to return to try their other items on the menu!

The maple ice cream is so gooood and the fries!

I've been hearing people rave about Anny's Maple Twist and poutine, so I knew I had to try it out! Anny's is a small family owned business famous for their maple twist and poutine!! I've had a poutine craving for weeks now, and I finally satisfied my craving that day hehe! The decor is so cute! Eccentric & actually quite charming ;) Maple Twist Mom gave it 4.5/5 stars! Turns out this had modified milk ingredients in it...so boooo, I couldn't have any! My mom got it though and she absolutely loved it! She said it was super creamy and thick, with interlaced layers of maple syrup! Large Poutine w/ Extra Cheese! $9 3.5/5 stars This thing was huge! It would definitely be a feat for one person to polish off! Extra cheese costs an extra $2.25, but let me tell you, it was worth it hehe! The cheese curds were huge! You can never go wrong with cheese curds ;) I love their fries, they're thick cut, and sligh
Hungry In Vancouver
This is their #1 combo, a Steamie hot dog with a poutine upgrade. The hot dog was different, but in a good way. I wasn't expecting it to have lettuce on it but it was very tasty with the cheese, relish and mustard. It was a good mix of things to put on a hot dog. The lettuce was not soft, it held up on the hot dog which was delicious and not overly salty. The poutine is the way to go here. The gravy is so good. They give you just enough of it. I love cheese curds. I enjoy their chewy cheesy goodness and how some of them melt while some stay chewier than others. Poutine is a favorite of mine and they do it really nicely here. I would definitely get it again.

This place was recommended by a French Canadian friend of mine. A stop that not only boasted poutine made with the popular “St. Hubert” Quebec style gravy, but also maple twist ice cream cones. Having a French Canadian partner I am always excited to try food specific to his region of birth. So undoubtedly I was thrilled to see that we were pulling up to this little less known shop in the heart of the New Westminster. Their awning gave delight in traditional Quebec style fare: poutine, smoke meat sandwiches, and maple desserts. The shop was wide open with its door propped and its sliding windows separate. An inviting scene, beckoning those wanting a sweet treat on a balmy summer-like evening, such as tonight. When we walked in the space it was empty, but soon after 8:30pm patrons piled in for dessert. Families with small children, pregnant parents, seniors, and friends on a stroll. People of all ages, and people of all walks of life wanting only one thing, a “Maple twist”. The restauran

The best reason to come here is for the poutine. They had lots of cheese curds in this dish and they were slightly melted and covered with a thick brown gravy. The cheese had an excellent texture being both chewy and squeaky at the same time.

The weather is getting better in Vancouver and what better way to celebrate than going to get some ice cream. We were in New Westminster and we came across Anny’s. There were lots of people sitting inside and we saw a huge sign saying they were serving maple twist cones. Of course we had to get some! I’ve never seen such a thing and M wanted some too. Maple Twist Cone has the maple streak on the side. It wasn’t too sweet and deliciously creamy. M really liked it. If you’re in the New Westminster area, definitely check this place out. I remembered Anny's Dairy Bar from when I did work in New West, and was also hankering for their deliciously rich Maple Twist cone. M was hungry, so we ordered a cheeseburger combo (substituted a milkshake for the drink), an extra burger, and a Maple Twis
