If you're craving fish and chips this is a good place to satisfy that craving. There could be a wait depending on when you go - which I feel is an indicator that the food being served is good, hence the crowd.
The restaurant interiors are simple and go great with the seafood vibe. It's definitely a busy place and it was good to see the servers attentive and moving fast. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes of placing the order. We love our cod so we'd ordered cod fish and chips, cod burger, coleslaw ...
Came here with the fam jam after my son’s hockey lessons and it was packed! The wait wound up being much less than they estimated!
There were 2 servers on the floor doing everything including hostessing, food running and bussing which was impressive! Our server was good considering how busy it was and she didn’t seem like she was in the best mood (not unfriendly but all business and no warmth) but we couldn’t help smiling at the other server (with colourful hair) because she was just so energetic, cheerful and so great with the kids and patrons at her tables. It started off slowly and took a while to take our order but once we did the food came fast and furious and our server was very attentive and quick.
The food tasted great and everyone enjoyed their meals. The portions are massive! The onion rings and battered hot dog have the same batter as the fish. The fried oysters were YUM and the steak and mushroom pie had a great crust. The only thing I wasn’t huge on was the tarter sauce. It tasted like the generic stuff you get at the grocery store.
I would definitely recommend stopping by - I hear they have all you can eat during the weekdays!

• tried the Pollock all you can eat for $10.95, it wasn’t bad. I really love the thin crispy batter on their fish but the pollock tastes a little fishy. Fish inside were thin slices inside the batter.
• server kepy forgetting to give us lemon wedges and did not come around to top up my order. They are extremely busy on their all you can eat days. Nevertheless, quality is still great!

• lots of parking available in Columbia strip mall
• opens at 1100, seat yourself wherever you want
• our server was kinda in a rush, we just got there, I guess she was anticipating that it will get busy and wants things out of her way. She also threw the fries that we had "to go" but she gladly gave us a fresh one
• Monday-Wednesday is ALL YOU CAN EAT Pollock & Chips for $10.95 (2017 August), come early!
• 1 piece Halibut & Chips: $13.99 They gave us an extra piece as the one piece was small. Awesome quality, you can see the flakiness of the halibut fish, not overly battered and oily which was perfect! The fries, one of the best one in town. I do not think it is frozen, you can taste the texture of the potato crumbling inside your mouth compared to the ones that are frozen.
• Seafood chowder: meh! Not a good one! Its like your mirapoix with small flecks of fish, I will not order this again, too salty for me
• the Tartar sauce: fresh tasting, cold and they bring it to your table as you order
• the Coleslaw: really good flavour, simple & delightful; although there was a big piece of the cabbage stem on my plate but just ignored it was it was sooo good!
• to start, they give you a huge piece of Portuguese bun, yum!
• by 12 noon, this place is packed! So come early or have a late lunch.
• good place for family dinner, old folks surely love it here!
• $35/2 people without drinks
i brought a group of seniors, who often enjoy fish & chip, here . though there is no reservation for their policy but staff was very friendly to recommend the time to come in to bit the rush hours. food was good and price was fair enough and staff Natasha was excellent fast and nice and efficient and very considerate.
as a group with a big van or bus , it is good to park on street ( 10th St.) and get in and out of the side door with the staff permission. especially for seniors . we highly refer others to experience this English style fish & chip. and we had fun to learn all those slang and we gave every one a nickname such as Mary the Ferry : Faye and Hay: etc ........
I have only been here for the all-you-can-eat fish and chips. So this is just a partial review and rating.
The place looks nicer on the outside than the inside. This doesn't mean that it's ugly inside, not at all, just nicer outside. So, if it's a nice summer day, definitely seat outside.
The food is good, I wasn't blown away by either they fish or the fries. Again, I didn't try other items in their menu, but I can tell you that I would go back here, just not regularly.
An excellent place for English-style fish and chips. Pricing is fair and all the staff and friendly and seem to genuinely enjoy their work. I've often stopped by for salmon and rings to go, and enjoyed the meal packaged in newspaper. There's a weird satisfaction in balling up your newspaper "plate" and tossing it in the compost bin.
Best fish and chips I've tried in Vancouver. The batter is perfection and the fries were plump and crunchy. The Calamari also had a really nice batter, so light and perfectly crisp.
My only critique is that their tartar sauce could have used more pickles.
went here for all you can eat fish and chips, for $12 i can live with that. and the batter is not flavourful but it does bring the crisp after it's freshly cooked. the same restaurant with the one in north burnaby, i prefer this place becase it's nearer to skytrain station, and definitely something to chow down when i'm really hungry and not caring the deep fried intake. never really tried the other menu that they have, but definitely a good trade off for $12 for me to come down here and eat.
servers were attentive and friendly as well and the size of the fish is definitely atleast average.
We had supper here as a family on an all-you-can-eat eat night and we're quite impressed. There was a wait to get in, but once we were seated the food came very quickly. I ordered the calamari dinner which was huge and very good. The prices were cheap. The atmosphere was nice and the service quick. The restaurant was busy the whole time we were there but everything was good. We'll definitely be back. :)
Fast service, decent prices, good portion sizes and tasty food - what more can you ask for?
The fish were fried nicely and were fairly fleshy. My only dislike were the fries as I felt that they could be a bit more crispy. The batter on the fish was just perfect - not thin enough to crumble and fall off but not too thick.
Definitely recommended and would visit again!
Amazing place and good price.. Have not been to cockney kings in ages, I went the other day and it was amazing. The fish is really good and the batter is perfect, the price is pretty good as well. I will be returning many times.
Yummy. Best fish n chips in town, good service
So good!! Love the halibut and chips
Fish and Chips, just like when I was a kid.. Definitely remind me of my mum making fish and chips when I was a child. Brings me back to the old days and I'm always a sucker of nostalgia. Very affordable prices and good food. Can't really ask for more. Will and have been back!
Best fish and chips!. This is the best fish and chips place around. Ordered the halibut with onion rings. They forgot the onion rings, but quickly brought me some.
Best there is. For my money, this is the best fish and chips I've ever had. And that includes fifteen years in Newfoundland.
Fried fish will fill the void in your life.. Some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. Service was really good, almost suspiciously good... I began to think "what where they hiding" once I bit into the succulent piece of beer battered cod I no longer cared. The girl I was with didn't like fish so I was surprised she suggested this place but I soon found out why, they have great chicken strips too. She thought the fries had a bit of a fishy taste to them but I thought they were fantastic and a great supporter to the fish. GO HERE.
Just plum AWESOME!!!. Been going there since I first came to New west. they always treat you like your a regular even if your just getting take out. always busy and food is to die for. awesome take out and go to a park and eat it. old fashion way of packaging newspaper and plain paper just adds to the charm. food has always been great served up pipin hot. now I live across the river but still go back for the best fish in Canada!! I try other places but this place is the golden standard all other places get judged by but none have beat it!! you want awesome go there and eat in or dine out it all good. I luv the halibut there. the menu is simple but who needs complicated when they do it and get it right all the time!! when you want it right go there and enjoy!!
HALIBUT & CHIPS DINNER. I love to eat at Cockney's. The Halibut and Chips dinner is the way to go! Great staff and great good.
Oh I love you Cockney Kings.. You have filled my fish and chip wishes.Crisply light evcellent batter (even when we get it out) still perfect when we get it home, wrapped the right way in paper and the gravy is perfect too. I know there is one way and one way only to have that gravy. But don't worry that secret is safe with me. I love your everything. XXXXXXX
Best Halibut & Chips. Very popular. Always busy. Clean. Waitresses fast and attentive. The cooks are efficient and have great character. Generous with fries. Delicious coleslaw. If your friends that tag along don't like seafood, the steak and mushroom pies are very satisfying. Bottomless soft drinks. Family friendly atmosphere. Patio seating in warmer weather.
Do yourself a favor, call ahead to take out on Fridays in the spring. And when you do, do not put your order in a plastic bag but just carry the newspaper bundles as is. The newspaper will be soggy by the time you get home.
My mother-in-law approves of this restaurant.
Great cod and chips. Keep it up cockney king. love it
Seafood platter was great. Not greasy, fries light, salmon tasty and lightly battered. Steak & kidney pie is very good but don't bother ordering the mushy peas, dull colour and not fresh tasting.
It was my first time trying fish and chips so I can't really compare but my gosh the food was amazing! There's a Chronic Tacos around the corner that make good tacos but the tacos at Cockney def takes the cake. I ordered the 2 piece cod and it was delish, lightly battered, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. And the fries were good too!
BEST FISH AND CHIPS I'VE HAD IN CANADA. Stumbled upon this little gem today. And I actually think I may have died and gone to heaven. The fish and chips are by far the best i've had in Canada, and trust me....i've tried a few!! They are the most like back home in the UK i've had here. Really recommend to all the expats out there, or people that just want to try some real fish and chips! 10/10!!
We ordered pick up. Friendly service told us it would be ready in 5-10mins we were quite surprised it would be ready so fast. Went there to pick it up and it was fresh in our hands right after we payed. I must say they have the best fish & chips! There was hardly in grease on the fish was delightful!! I highly recommend this place!
A-1. 2 pieces of Halibut and chips were some of the best I've had. This could of fed two pretty easily. I didn't come close to finishing the chips. I'm not sure if they have a substitute for chips but this would be a nice option.
Would recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat.
Eat in or take out.
Halibut is amazing!. I haven't written a review in forever, however, I feel that this place really deserves one. I know I've been on a bit of a health kick for a while but sometimes a person just gets the urge to treat themselves. When my "cheat" day comes, I head out to this place for truly out of this world Fish and Chips. I grew up in the UK and have spent many years trying to recreate the experience of a real "Chippy" here in North America. Although I'm still haplessly searching for this elusive experience, Cockney Kings comes the closest. Granted, it's much cleaner than any Chip shop I ever frequented in the UK and offers a fine dining experience as opposed to a quick grab and go. Still, this doesn't take away from their stellar food and copious quantities. I love you Cockney Kings and I love learning Cockney slang while at your establishment!
Always Terrific. I've never had a bad experience. Fish (halibut, cod, salmon) is always nicely seasoned in a crisp batter, fries are excellent. The coleslaw is a little bland but a little hot sauce and lemon wakes it up. Not to be missed are the onion rings. Far and away the best I have had in the lower mainland.
Good value for the money. Halibut and chips are excellent. Fish Tacos with a little bite in the sauce are very good. Grilled Salmon on salad is excellent for those watching what they eat.
Great all you can eat fish and chips at a great price!
Decent Fish & Chips. Was in the area for an event and had lunch here.
One thing I've got to say is the fish portion is pretty huge! I could've went for just one piece but got two instead so good value.
The seafood chowder I've had was alright, I guess I was thinking it was more like clam chowder hence my slight dissapointment.
Overall a good place for a quick bite to eat.
Mmm :). Great fish and chips and friendly service! very very busy but i would say dine-in is your best option to keep the food from getting soggy. plus then you get to use their in-house tartar sauce which is not included in the takeout orders, it's DELICIOUS..
As someone from England living in Canada I miss the comforts of home from time to time, one of the big things being food. So when I came across Cockney Kings I was a little excited.
I've eaten here and had my food to go on several occasions, and I don't really have anything bad to say about the place. As far as fish & chips go, you can't really beat a good ole chippy back home (northern England), but Cockney Kings comes a close second. They even sell gravy and it's not that bad!
If you crave fish & chips then I'd recommend a visit.
Yum. Exceptional fish, fries okay but better than other places!
I love the way they prep the fish, it's always hot, crisp and delicious! Great tartar sauce and very prompt service. I'm pretty sure they have an 11yr old behind the counter doing cash, haha, but that's okay. He must be someone's son from the restaurant. The best Cockney's is Columbia and Kenzington Plaza in Burnaby. The atmosphere is easy going, the waiting staff is friendly and the food quality is high.
Love Their Food!. I am a frequent customer of the North Burnaby location, and decided to try the New West locale. Not disappointed!
Same great food. Even more varieties of British meat pies to choose from. A bigger, newer and equally busy location. Good job!
Gonna be a favourite of mine for fish and chips!. Mon-Wed all you can eat fish and chips + pop (priced at 9.50).
Got here at around 6ish before the crowd arrived. We both ordered the all you can eat special. The first plate comes with 3 huge pieces of cod and some fries. First off the fish, they were huge pieces and they weren't the small flaky fish. We'll give it a 5/5 for an ayce fish. Second the batter, it was crispy and not too thick but just thick enough for the taste and crunch. Fries were good. It got quite busy by the time we were finished and a lineup has formed - next time try to get there before 7. Kitchen - looks clean, kind of an open one where you can see them frying the fish and chips. A lot of people also get take out from here. The service was pretty good, waitresses were friendly.
Its Dam Good. Dam good fish and chips.
and if you do not like it? There is something wrong with you plain and simple....
Ah perfectly battered halibut, with homemade chips that had a slight buttery taste, the coleslaw was saucy and packed full of taste. Also the prices are unbeatable! 4 bucks for a pint and just over 12 bucks for a 2 piece halibut and chips and coleslaw. If you want fish and chips, this joint is a Guaranteed good meal
Very GOOD Fish & Chips. Have been to both locations several times and have always been happy with food freshness, quality & taste.
Fish & Chips seem simple enuff to make but so many places do it poorly - Cockney Kings do NOT.
Had Haddock & Chips and we split onion rings. YUM So good - once in a while ;-)
The salmon and halibut was awesome! Their fries are horrible though. And they give you a bun before your meal and always with frozen butter! :( Al & Jan's fish and chips in surrey is by far the best all all around, but they don't offer salmon.
Cockney Kings is far by the best fish and chips you'll find! I go there all the time for the all you can eat with my family. It's super affordable, the staff is always friendly and treats you like family. What more is there to say but go try it the next time you're in the Quay area.
UK UK Tasted like home !. Well that made me feel at home ! Good food great prices ...Now dont run off there thinking this is fish and chip heaven ..Its not .. But if you want to know what a real UK high street chippies is like go here !!!! Good batter clean fryers ..great service ..I would say go and Ill go back for sure !!!!!! Great range of items and good value for money ..! Nuff said get yer chip on !
A Definite Favourite. This is my absolutely favourite fish & chip shop in Vancouver. The service is always friendly, and the food is always delicious. The amount of chips you get is astounding and I can rarely finish them all. Take-out is great, usually just a 5-10 minute wait - except for their busy 'all you can eat' nights. I highly recommend this place.
Good fish.. The halibut came in a nice portion. It was fried perfectly. The batter was light and it had a really nice crunch when I bit into it. The fish was perfectly cooked, it was just one really nice deep fried fish. Homemade tarter sauce was very delicious as well.
Yum!. The food is yuuuuummy & our waitress was fast & attentive. Thumbs up!
AWESOME!. I frequent this place and it never ever disappoints! When I order take out I have to eat it in the car before I get home because I just can't resist! I usually just get the regular cod pieces and it's always fantastic and fairly quick too. One of my FAVES!
Best Fish and Chips Around. I've been to many of the fish and chip joints in the lower mainland and Cockney's is by FAR the best.
The quality of their fish is wonderful. The batter they use is nice and light. The best onion rings I have ever had, I would recommend trying their oysters s well.
Service is always super friendly and inviting :)
The fish and chips are awesome. I went here for take out and they serve it old school I'm the news paper and everything. Even waiting for the take out has a really cool authentic feel.
When I was a kid I use to come to this plaza a lot because my dad would take us to the same chinese buffet every week LOL (yea, sounds like something my dad would do right?) ;) Cockney King's is located conveniently near the New West skytrain station (yay! since the skytrain is my main mode of transportation lol!) in the same plaza as Chronic Tacos! During my hunt for food, I came across a ton of different restaurants in New West hehe, so rest assured they'll be more New West reviews coming your way very soon! I went to Cockney Kings because I wanted to try their AYCE fish & chips so I could compare it to C-Lovers, but when I got there, turns out they only offer ayce Mondays, Tues, and Weds! LOL dang it! So I had to settle for their regular menu, which is more expensive! SIGNATURE DISHES Cockney King's specializes in english style fish & chips! From what I've heard, Cockney Kings is pretty authentic lol. They also have other seafood offerings like chower, seafood salad, even po
The fish pieces are only "COD", not the fancy stuff like salmon or halibut, but still good. The fish was moist and worth it.
Note: Since this is a visit to Cockney Kings, I figured I'd try to write this entry in Cockney Slang. The restaurant gives you a paper place setting with a bunch of common Cockney translations… please forgive me if this doesn't translate well - but at least you have the pictures to look at.
one of mother's finest :New Westminster: Papa GG and Momma GG really liked this place. And if there's anything you should know about Papa GG , it's that he is really, really picky and particular. Double Ps are difficult to please. Momma GG on the other hand has delusions about being the least picky-eater. She's just as hard to please, but if she likes something, she likes it hard. The takeaway message - if my parents like it, chances are everyone does. That holds true to Cockney Kings. There are two locations, but my parents are old school - they go where they always go. New Westminster it is. I met the sister and Momma GG for dinner last night before sister heads to suburbia to spend a few days with the mother. It's a far trek to NewWest station for someone as anti-transit as me, but I did it. Because I love my family. It's got an archaic theme - but it's worked for them. I didn't really go for the ambiance anyway. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays are all you can eat fish
Overall, I like the place, will try it again and look forward to trying the halibut and chip, the fried oyster sandwich and the battered hotdog.
I was there for dinner at around 7pm, and this place was packed with line ups. The atmosphere was really casual, it had a retro furnishing.
Despite there were interesting options during my trip to Scottsdale (again, there were several dozen restaurants in the couple of block radius near my hotel), I have to mention I wanted to come back to Vancouver. Sure, weather was nicer in Scottsdale but
After debating whether to get the cod or halibut, even debated the salmon, I opted for the basic two piece cod for nine bucks.
