Review The River's Reach Pub - New Westminster

David Thomson
I’ve been here twice and first time I had this amazing shrimp wrap that the chef had concocted on his own! It was so good I raved about it to my gf who tried it also and loved it! And this time I had the mushroom Neptune and prime rib, the food here is to DIE FOR!!! The server even brought me my mashed potatoes I had ordered too no questions asked when I got roasted potatoes! The servers and owners are amazing here and this is the best pub I’ve ever been too! I can’t believe I haven’t tried this place sooner! Keep up the amazing work! 👋👋👋👋

Great atmosphere. The food was good but not exceptional. I had the prime rib special on Saturday, good presentation, flavour was just ok. It was a busy night, and I think the food runners were struggling to keep up. Lots of 1/2 price Saturday special pizza going out and it looked good. Maybe a better choice. I'll try that next time. Prices are reasonable.

The food was very well displayed and very tasty, the service was excellent and the drinks were also very good, no complaints very nice pub plenty of tv's and very modern , bathrooms were very clean , super place to go to watch your favourite game ? I ordered a chicken clubhouse and my wife ordered a hamburger and our friends ordered a large mixed salad which was very good and also a lettuce wrap which was also very good ! In fact all the food was really good , will be back !

The atmosphere here is wonderful! Traditional European pub décor, very large and clean, and is packed full of locals. Not too roudy, senior friendly, and a great place to watch sporting events on the many big screens. On Friday and Saturday, between 4 and 8, they have a prime rib special with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and Yorkshire puddings! Yum! There is a solarium on the back, pumping out heat like it's free, so on a cold day this is the place to be! The food was great! The beef dip was the clear winner out of all the dishes! If you like beef dips, get this one! :)

Surprisingly good salads! Nice size, fresh and tasty. Came in to grab a quick bite before a meeting. Service was a little slow so had to eat faster than I would have liked. But will come back another time when I'm not in a rush.

Busy place so a bit of a wait for food but server was good and wings were great. Great price too. Good pub, good beer on tap, and worth coming back.

I had the tuna tacos. The food isn’t overly special but it was still good. I really liked the vibe in here. It’s very chill and spacious. It has a very European pub vibe and I like the way it’s decorated.

We were at Rivers Reach about a month ago. It was fairly packed and many people were in the waiting area. We decided to wait and glad we did. We got a table after an only about 10 minutes. We had the best Calamari in the area and our mains were very yummy too. This was our first time there, sure glad to have gone in.

It was my wife's birthday yesterday and because we hadn't been feeling very well we hadn't made any solid plans- at the last moment we decided to pop into the RR for their happy hour. It was nice to find a cool air conditioned place in the back. We ordered four items, three from their happy hour menu and found we had so much food we had to get a take out bag! What I was really impressed by (and I'm usually not that easily impressed) was the level of service- we had not only the full attention of our server, but other staff members dropped by from time to time to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. If I had any quibbles, I would have like to see some sparkling wine on the wine list; I understand that it serves mostly the beer drinking crowd, but one sparkling wine wouldn't kill (we ended up drinking the one rose they had available, which was fine). A very pleasant time.

My friends and I have been eating lunch and dinner here for years. None of us has ever complained about being sick. The food and staff are great! Service is quick too. My favorite pub in New West without a doubt!

The river's reach is filled with kindness and compassion. We bring my brother in law who has Lewy bodies dementia to the pub on a regular basis. The entire staff is amazing - thoughtful, patient and friendly every single time. The food is great but the staff is what brings us back time and time again.

Had a great time tonite! And our waitress (Alison) was awesome. I would recommend this place to everyone. This is why it is my favorite pub.
Melinda Neil
Awesome place, great staff and good food! Great neighborhood pub!
Chris Fletcher
Great staff great food great specials great service plus there is a patio and front street side seating love the place great place to meet friends.

I'm being generous with the rating...its more a high 3....the food is great! Yes, prices have gone up, but the cost of everythings gone up...Service is pleasant, but it's hard to get your server's attention...but still a good pub.

I've been going to rivers reach fairly regularly the passed few years. The food is always delicious and very consistent. But there have been a couple of times that I've experienced awful service. I was there recently, and had the WORST service I've ever experience anywhere. I ordered a small glass of Coors light, the server brought me a full pint. I politely told her that I actually ordered the small glass. She said I didn't, but I know I did. She picked up the glass, visibly annoyed. Literally just had to turn around one second to the bar to change it. And angrily slammed the new drink on the table. I wanted to ask her what her issue was, but she quickly turned her back and walked away. After that, I just needed to leave, I was so frustrated. So I asked for the bill. She didn't respond, just came and dropped it off without a word. Not giving me a chance to talk to her. She finally came with the machine, I paid, did not leave a tip. Than the rude server had the audacity to ask if I made a mistake. I told her no. She asked why. I explained why. She said she was "busy". I understand being busy, but I don't think that makes it ok to be rude and to make customers feel like they want to leave. Anyways, I was there with my mom, we then left. But as we were walking away, she says "well that's fu$ing rude". If you give good service you get a good tip, if you are slamming customers drinks down and ignoring the customer, you get nothing. After all this I immediately emailed a complaint. With zero response. For these reasons, I will not return. Customers are not valued at this pub. Do not waste your money there.

Having been there a few dozen times now, I've always been very pleased with quality of the servings and service. And it is a fine atmosphere, with mostly very friendly customers. Not the cheapest place in New West, but a truly good value as it is.
Michael Prasad
It is a really nice place, the food was good and the waitresses were excellent!
Les Cole
Been going there for years. Service is always spotty, but the food and drinks are consistent. It's a good "getting together with friends" pub.
Tony Gardner
I was there for the game and had dinner, a great Marsala chicken, great food, drinks were on game special. Great time and packed. I don't think I have ever been less than fully satisfied with the pub.
George Econ
Great service!! Great food!! Amazing atmosphere!! Never had a bad experience at this pub.
Robert Shkuratoff
Great selection of beer. Prime rib was okay but could have aged for another 10 days.

So just tried to order takeout from a pub we frequently go too! Actually regularly! On hold not once twice and three time for a total of 40 min! To get to a us based company! Requiring the birth of my first child! We’re I could have had dinner already! Thinking really hard about going to the pub! I so liked! Rivers Reach in New Westminster!Need betters ways! But like my neighbors mentioned! They don’t need the small people! I tried! And I have a lot of small people in my life! Go figure
Joanne Pollington
Good food good beer good service good location in our neighbourhood
Patrick Mimeault
Very friendly staff and great prime rib. I will be coming back.
Sharon Nolan
was my first and last time going there - the food was awful and the ambience left a great deal to be desired
Bev Rowlands
Best pub in Lower Mainland. Excellent menu and food! Great atmosphere. Great prices.

Not many bars around so it is always packed with people, usually you do not have to wait to be seated though. The food here is decent, we have tried their wings, tuna tacos, spicy chilli chicken, and the calamari. You come here to watch the game and drink with friends, not so much for the food. It is quite loud inside which creates a fun atmosphere. We would come back for drinks.

Went here a couple weeks ago, have been a couple times before. Always good service, good-quality food. I like their chicken burger, appreciate the daily specials--but the poutine? omg it was SO good!!!

Daughter and I had some business in New Westminster yesterday morning. I offered to treat to lunch - we decided a pub lunch would be fun. She recommended the River’s Reach Pub - it was handy, our timing was ‘right’, it was 11:20 am, open, and yea, there was a parking space along the side!

I really liked the “look and feel” of the place — nice spacing of table arrangements, with almost separated areas, and different types of seating (standard tables and chairs, high tables and stools, etc.). We chose a (standard-type) table, at the front side of the restaurant, near the back.

I ordered a pint of Rickard’s Red draft (they’re Tuesday ‘special’), and clubhouse sandwich (on toasted white bread, came w/turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato), and fries — daughter (the driver) opted for water, and a large baked lasagna (came w/mozzarella cheese, and meat sauce, and at her request, some pineapple), and garlic toast.

We did good — friendly, accommodating service, with some rather fine-looking food presentations, and tasty, well-made preparations. She enjoyed her lasagna (leaving a little to go back home for later), and I sure enjoyed my sandwich (leaving nothing to go back to the kitchen, or away with me).

This was a first time visit to River’s Reach for me, and based on the dining experience, we made a fine decision, and I was most happy with daughter’s choice of venue.

My family has ordered from here for years but lately the service has just been lacking. The last few times we've order from here we been missing some part of our orders or up to half our orders, making us have to call and complain about some part missing and us then waiting longer than what was told that our order would be. Tonight was no exception as tonight which is a Sunday normally it take an hour it took an hour and a half plus an extra half hour to get the rest of order. I'd like to say we would order here again but they've done this to many times lately that they have now officially lost our business.

Was there today and the food was a big disappointment. Ordered a small pizza, thinking it was 14.85. Sounds reasonable.
Didn't see the small print in the left hand side it was actually $22 and I got charged additional for cheese. Which I guess doesn't usually come on pizza?

I was a fan of this place for over 7 years. But they recently made some changes which resulted in a terrible experience. I will never return.

I visited with a friend on Feb 28th had the server Nicole. My friend is hypoglycemic/diabetic and we arrived before the lunch rush, so the restaurant was fairly clear. Nicole waited 10 minutes to take our order. We saw a 14 top come in and realized we wanted our order in before they slammed the kitchen, and we let her know this and purposely ordered menu items that should be 10 minutes or less. 35 minutes later, after we saw the 14 top get their order, my friend was starting to have complications due to her hypoglycemia, we let Nicole know and she brought out part of our order. We waited an additional 10 minutes before the rest of the order came out. We had burgers & sandwiches and "be careful, the plates are hot": yes and the buns were dry and the vegetables wilted.

We had let Nicole know we were displeased. But when we got the bill, it was $44 for a 75 minute service. By this time the place was slammed and she couldn't wait to get us out fast enough.

It was my favorite place to go and I would take friends and clients there, but never again.
Kelly Aarons
I actually didn't go - I just ordered (DID YOU KNOW THEY DELIVER?!)
The food arrived promptly, they had debit at the door (♥), the delivery guy was super nice, and the food was great for the price! I'm actually going to order from here again after I write this :3c

OMG TERRIBLE. Good reviews of this place must have been written by their own management because river's reach pub is TERRIBLE! The service is slow and staff are rude and dismissive. The food is overpriced and quite simply BAD!
Dak828
Ooops. Big mistake going to the Reach worst service ever i was left sitting for far to long and made to feel as if i were intruding

Rip Off. Recently spent the afternoon at the reach where I was drinking non acoholic beer. when i received my bill they had charged me $4.95 ea for 4 bottles. Every where else I've ordered this type of beer it cost $3.50 to $3.95
Such a rip off

Very good food here, I was pleasantly surprised. Service was decent too. I'll be back for sure.

Awful service. Sitting at home at 6:00 pm thought we would go for dinner to the Rivers Reach, Bad idea on our part.... Service was very bad, we asked for wine that came right away , then we were forgot about . we were wanting to a nice meal each but waited way to long ,so we went to White spot and had great service and great food .Tues. Nov .11 2014.....................................

We were told that the pre season canuck games weren't allowed because the manager would flip out. This despite the entire room wanted to watch the game. We are Canadians, and we live in Vancouver so we will go where hockey is appreciated. Completely in-Canadian

Rivers Reach Pub. This Pub is one of the best anywhere!!! The food is always GOOD and the service is Always GOOD. We go there several times a year and have never had one single complaint. Management must be GOOD to have some awesome Food and Servers....a very friendly pub......we have tasted many foods and they are all worthy of eating...

Great Time!. Met up with a dozen friends, at Rivers Reach. Had no problem reserving a table, the $5.00 a pound chicken wings were superb! Staff were super friendly and attentive!! A definite "do over"!! Thanks to all at Rivers Reach!!

Mike

I like this pub, was there in the middle of the day and service was good. Hot wings are delicious and good price. Good environment and good food(only eaten their once but going back soon)

Waste of time. The wings were acceptable and not too expensive but that is all I can say about it that is not negative.
Was with my wife on a warmish winter day. no waitress that showed she deserves a tip. Is this a pub or a playpen?
Good location/bad amience

Great Pub! Can always Rely on the Food. My husband and I have been going to Rivers for years now and it's the best pub around! You always know what to expect - a relaxed atmosphere, mixed crowd, solid food and decent food/ drink specials. Saturdays are the best with their half price pizza (from an actual pizza oven) and their berry mojitos! Management hasn't changed in the years that we have been going to the pub and they are always welcoming and accommodating if you are looking to book for a group of people. If you are out in New West Rivers is definitely a must try!
Liz
My first time here .. No hostess we sat our selves... Waitresses here do not have a good sense of customer service. We asked for our menu and she slammed our menu on the table ... We always had to look for someone to serve us ...overall my first time here I would never come back
Chris M
No better hot wings anywhere for the price. $5 for a pound, absolutely awesome. Half price pizza on Saturdays and half price appies from 3-5 everyday.
Tracy Hunter
My favorite pub. Great beer and hot wings ! Server Morgan is great .
Peter
The weekend prime rib is truly great. The beers are pretty expensive. Peter (owner) is a good guy, supports his community, don't know why that makes a difference to me but it does.
Ladybug
This place is always busy but the food is good ($5 a pound of wings!) and service is overall good. I also like the pub atmosphere.
Dmoose
I wasn't overly impressed with the food or service when I was here but I will try one more time. I went on a busier night on the weekend so the service was understandable but the seared tuna on my salad was terrible.
No Dessert Im Full
Lively. Awesome lively diverse atmosphere with people from all walks here. Inside has a warm and inviting feeling, especially in the room with the fireplace, it was very easy to hunker down there with my friend and enjoy happy hour! good drink prices and the wings were very good.
Peter Cook
Lousy food. 1/2 of our two meals came out cold, the service was lousy for no other reason other than the girls are clueless and don't know their jobs. I used to frequent this place for years but the last year and a half it had gone waaayyyyy downhill where the food and service is concerned. If you just want to grab a few beers in New Westminster there is no better spot, but I wouldn't eat here again if it were free.
Happyclam
Good food, bad service. We've been here quite a few times- this place really does have great pub food and cheap appetizer specials during the day, but the service is very hit-or-miss.
there are some really awesome and friendly waitresses working there, but definitely some with a lot of attitude too.
...you're supposed to apologize when you mix up an order! not argue with the customer about how you're sure that's what was ordered... why would anyone order something they specifically hate? lol.
overall I do enjoy this place for the menu selection and food quality, but don't really feel compelled to head there every time we're craving pub food.
Jim Bob
Treat your customer's right. I like any customer deserve to be treated right. I find the service is going downhill. Not all the waitresses are bad but watch out when you get a bad one. I guess the pub is beginning to think where else are people going to go because they are really the only game in town. They have no competition and are beginning to act like it. When the pub first opened up service was good and atmosphere was great. If there was another option I would definitely give them my business instead of Rivers Reach, but in the meantime I will have to resort going to pubs with better service that are out of area.
Mac
Bad service, average food. I had been to this pub a couple times before, with below average service, but the last time at this pub made me never want to go back. the atmosphere is pretty good, the food was average, especially for the price and the service was horrible. there are some nice looking waitresses at the rivers reach, not sure if we just got a bad one, but she was not into her job. took 15 minutes before we were even acknowlaged, and it was a big deal for our waitress to get menus for us. there was not one smile the entire meal, getting our drinks refilled was a chore. we ordered burgers with a soup. there's not alot of choice in new west for pubs, but i would rather travel somewhere else than go back. would not recommend this pub.
DC
Great Service, Great pizza. Been going there for years....really nice atmosphere, Sat night half-price pizza (super pizza), and above average service. Best pub in New West, and can hold it's own and better many others out of town.

Great Canadian Fare. My wife and I decided to have a go at this place this past weekend in celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival we entered into a rather large, extremely quite, lobby area and were greeted by a lovely young lady (hint blonde and busty) for our coats. We were showed to our table immediately and from there it was down hill...mostly. The ambiance is sort of the old style "old boys club" dark gloomy. We are mid 40s so something a bit more elegant and airy would be nice, although quiet was our desire and this we received, for a while anyway. Our waiter was at our side in a flash ready to serve although his name was not given which would have been nice. His "jeans was a bit on the old side which added to the feeling of being "stuck" somewhere in the past. He was very pleasant and professional though, so as for service I will not complain.
Conan
Food was delicious!! I'm never gonna forget this place because I enjoyed this place with my special someone!
ScumbagMeatloaf
Excellent pubgrub. Best pub food I've ever had!
Karla Martinez
Service super slow, be prepared to wait. Ordered at 5:30 some simple edamame and 25 min later it finaly came. I ordered a burger and the bread was old and dry like a day old. Same can be said about the beef patty, an dry flavorless overcooked cardboard. The salad was brown, rusty and bland. Very disappointing, the only thing that saved my meal was my Stella Artois. If you want to come here make sure you dont eat here.

River's has THE best French Onion soup! No where else compares by far! You can't pass up this excellent $5 meal! Me and friends usually go for their appys and have tried almost all of them and haven't once been disapointed with their food. Great food for Great prices!
HoneyBuns
Best pub in New West, hands down!. I moved to New Westminster about 2 years ago and have been to River's Reach MANY times. Not once have I had bad service, the waitresses are always EXTREMELY friendly and seem to enjoy their job. The food is excellent, and well priced - In fact they have THE best deal on Nachos and they are delicious! Great daily specials (2 for 1 appies quite often) and great atmosphere (it can be a little on the loud side) but the place is great, so everyone goes! Good job guys!! Highly recommend!!
Tara Lei Royer
Love ya miss ya rivers reach. This is the place that I miss most in Vancouver. I am living way up north and miss the ambience of the Reach, the great wine list, friendly service and fantastic appies. Best pizza in Vancouver as well! Love to the Reach!
Jack Fletcher
Meh.... Same tap beers as other places. I ordered a potato skins app and was charged $9.00 for half a potato with some bacon bits sprinkled on top. I was not amused and have not been back.

Great barbeque beef ribs every Monday night.

This bar has the best pizza in new west and they deliver. Every thing on the menu is top notch. HD whisky burger is a classic. Grate dayly deals. Good service. Out of all the bars in new west this is my fav.
Mykl
Good Food / Good Customer Service. Waitresses are stellar the place is clean. I ordered a Cesar salad and a pizza and was more then happy with the portions and quality. Did i mention the waitresses ( wow ). Will go back.
Chris Pattullo
The food is quite good, and the tap selection is decent. The kitchen is incredibly slow though. Servers are very friendly, provide great service, and usually make up for the lengthy food delay.

It is funny how our expectations of what a meal or a dish should be like can influence how we feel about the meal or dish as it is presented to us. Today for lunch I had a brief client meeting in New Westminster and we decided to meet at the River’s Reach Pub. Not having tried the Philly Cheesesteak Wrap at the Reach before, I decided to give it a try. The menu made it sound delicious – sirloin beef grilled with onions, green peppers, cheddar cheese with a chipotle mayo all wrapped up inside a jalapeño cheddar tortilla. I admit, the Reach’s interpretation of a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich was delicious. But it was very different from what I expected to receive. And that disconnect made it difficult for me to totally enjoy this sandwich/wrap. I felt like I was eating a very good steak sandwich with some crisp green onions, not a Philly Cheesesteak. What I really wanted was an oozy, gooey sandwich of shaved or thin sliced steak grilled with a mess of onions, peppers and cheese. And because the vision in my head was different from what was on my plate, I had a tough time accepting this delicious wrap. So the bottom line, the River’s Reach make a great sirloin steak wrap. It is excellent. But it is not a traditional Philly Cheesesteak sandwich or wrap.

For some reason, I’ve been hitting up the local pubs in New West lately for lunch. It has nothing to do with drinking… I’m just looking for someplace new to eat and New West seems to have quite a few pubs.

We caught one of the Canucks games at River's Reach Pub in New Westminster. Just like any other times we visit a pub to watch the Canucks game, we ordered a bunch of food to share. There was one giant nachos with lots of yummy nachos fixings, and the most popular dish that night was their $5 wings. $5 a pound! damn that is cheap and apparently they have this everyday. We ordered the wings in honey garlic , JD BBQ , hot sauce , and suicide sauce . The wings were not bad for $5, but they needed more deep frying action. The skin were still quite soft, I like mine crispy. Their hot sauce was quite weak, it was mostly sour than spicy. Their suicide sauce was also quite weak. It was slightly more hot than the hot sauce, but it wasn't spicy enough for me to reach for drinks to cool my tongue off. Besides the wings, I also ordered beef sliders as well as a club sandwich . The sidlers were mini beef burgers. The patties were quite dry, but I think that applies to all sliders in genera
