Review Wheatsheaf Inn - Nanaimo

I like it here. Some interesting decor on the walls. Nothing pretentious. Enjoyed pub grub and cool drinks. Pizza great. Fish and chips good. Decent wings and Caesar salads. Great service! Liquor store had everything I wanted. It's a little out of the way for me. Good vibes.

Nice area to tour around. Stopped in for a great steak sandwich. Mine and other foods going by were nice portion. Tourists and local were in the place. It was busy lunch time, but service and food was fast. When was the last time you saw a Stuffed animal vending machine.

Two stars for our server who is pleasant. Otherwise would not recommend. Ordered nachos. Half hour later it came burnt. They claim this is how it is supposed to be. Seriously? Pizza takes priority. A fellow came in 25 minutes after us. Ordered calamari and got it in less than 5 minutes. Nachos is an appetizer! Reviews were good, came highly recommended by friends. Unfortunately they didn't stand up to their promise.

Server/bartender was excellent, she was very pleasant and personable. Food was great, large portions and very tasty, definitely suggest ordering the steak sandwich, nice cut and cooked to perfection. Look forward to returning for lunch soon.

Great tunes and pub specials. Typsy Gypsy Jazz were playing Django style! On tap brews always tasty as well!

Waitress was phenomenal! Very kind and attentive. Food was good. It was busy so we did wait a while to receive our order but the waitress checked in often which was appreciated.

Ordered the Greek pizza without beef as we are vegetarian. Got home and it had beef on it. Called and asked for a credit for the mistake, as we were hungry and didn't want to have to drive all the way back. They would only offer 20% credit. We had ordered 3 pizzas and all of them were not even hot. Would rather drive into Nanaimo to give somewhere else my business! **Ended up calling back as we had 6 people to feed and they changed to would not even replace the pizza** They won't even care but don't recommend this place and we definitely will not be going back as well as our family that lives here.

Don't Waste your time. If you want a beer maybe, the food is awful and the service is a joke, waited over an hour for our order and it was garbage.

Wheaty Pizza. Family owned with a lot of history. This little out of the way pub had the best pizza I have ever had! Strongly recommend it. Ask any local and they will tell you!

Always love the Wheaty. I have always loved the Wheatsheaf pub! I have played many sports out that way and it has been my solace on hard days after work or the ever impending exam week. Their Thursday wing night coupled with an eventful music trivia is always a ton of laughs and great eats. As with any place, there are some good and poor experiences... I would highly encourage to give it a shot! I believe it encompasses the 80-20 rule (but more like 90-10). 90% of the time you will absolutely love this place :-D

Disgusting food and poorly trained staff. Moved to Cedar 3 years ago. Had take out here on several occasions. Ordered potato skins and spring rolls. After picking up, got home to find the rolls absolutely burnt beyond recognition. Such lack of pride in their food. Wondering how this happend, I call to explain and request a new order, and the girl tells me thats just how they are. She says she will refund my money (?) I explain I would like to eat some supper. She then says that it is the deep fryers fault as it is new. It has absolutely nothing to do with simply not caring? hm. She asks me to come get the food and when I show up, tells me that the cook did not make anything that he said to just give me a refund. So I went home with no appetite and a sour taste in my mouth to say the least. So much for supporting small local businesses. This one is off my list. Disgusting to say the least and learn some customer service skills.

There pizza used to be the best, just got 2 pizza yesterday and omg they were horrible. The crust didn't even look cooked and was so doughy not cruntch to it at all, chesse was so blan with no taste, toppings were stingy as well. Such a difference. I don't know what happened weather there's a new cook or they just don't care anymore. I will NEVER eat from there again.

What happened to the food?. I am a "local" and love the Wheatie..my local hang out. My husband and I are regulars. The atmosphere is great and the bar staff and servers are rock stars...what the heck happened to the food?
First of all the kitchen became so slow we left (on two occasions) after waiting an hour for breakfast...(obviously squeezing the chickens?)
We ordered pizza which took so long to make...my hubby went to pick up at the appointed time and was sitting waiting for an hour. But most disturbing of all...was the time I was served "raw in the middle" chicken wings. Our friends also went there for wings and the first basket was fine but the second was raw!
All this and the prices went up!!!
Please address this problem...quickly.....we are not the only ones commenting on the food, it's all over the Cedar "grapevine"....
Right now I'm only brave enough to eat the pizza which is great...and still worth the wait.
Thanks!

Classic. This is one of those classic Vancouver Island Pubs where locals go to hangout and have a good time. The food is decent, the room is dated just like the fantastic staff and camouflage clothing might be mandatory for visitors. The Wheaty needs a few things though. A better TV for the main room as watching sports here kinda sucks. Get rid of all the free beer company crap hanging from everywhere. The cool taxidermy decor is kinda clashing....get more stuffed animals in there as that is what makes this place unique. Put better beers on tap! ... Seriously your selection is so dated and lame...oh and get a proper music system and stop playing a radio station....so lame...It might sound like I am slamming this place but I'm not I would just like the owners to invest a little back into this gold mine....I love the Wheatsheaf.

Great food at great prices! 2nd time here & we wish we could take this place back to Edmonton. The daily specials are worth trying.
