Review Ricky's All Day Grill - Nanaimo

Had a really nice breakfast here. Good tasting breakfast burrito and they were right when the description says it’s large. Lots of coffee refills was nice and everything tasted fantastic. I would say the restaurant had the Ac on quite high for a rainy cold morning but wouldn’t deduct a star for it

Well I think this is a good restaurant. I did have an issue with a sandwich that I had ordered twice. The first time I came in I ordered the Ruben Sandwich, it was great, thick stack of meat. The second time, about 3 weeks later, I ordered it again and there was only a very thin layer of meat, I was Very Disappointed with the sandwich. The fact that there was no Consistency in the product has made me rate this restaurant only 3 stars. Would I come back? Yes I would. My parties other food items was good and tasted good. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good family restaurant.

Service has deteriorated (i.e. we had to ask for a spoon to stir the coffee). We were not asked for our Vaccine cards, which made me feel pretty uncomfortable with a child who cannot be vaccinated yet, especially with waitstaff not wearing proper masks (just the tiny clear shield). Also the food went out faster than it went in, which didn't help with my concerns of cleanliness. Will sadly not return, even though the free kids pancakes are a huge plus.

Good wasn't that great and it took a long time for our food to come out even though it wasn't very busy. My friends food was barely warm. Our server never stopped at our table to see if we needed refills on our water/pop. When I asked for more water when the food was served she never brought it to me. She didn't stop by for a quality check after the food was served as well, just stopped by after we done to see if we wanted dessert and then give us our bills.

Good atmosphere and good food. Portion sizes are quite large, I can never finish a meal there it seems, but that's better than the alternative. The only major downside is service can get quite slow during peak times. Their Christmas lights are outstanding during the holidays too!

Quite disappointed with breakfast today. Paid $16 for 2 small poached eggs 2 pieces of toast and a small serving of barely done shredded potions 🥺. Looking at all the other plates at other tables, it was pretty meager. Mentioned to our server, who was pleasant, but not until we were paying. It took a very long time (45+minutes) for that along with soup…, so not great overall -except tomato basil soup was yummy.

Worst meal ever. Took 45 minutes for simple scrabbled eggs came slimy raw. Pancake was cold and hard. Ordered bacon had to ask for it again by that time i just wanted to get going. When I ask for the bill and returned the food. Manger came to my table and was very gracious. The servers take the heat from customers, so i told my server it wasn't her fault. Does not change the fact that they need to put a fire under their cooks. There is no need to wait that long for food.

why can i not go to your website and get to a menu easily without filling in forms,  i guess it is whitespot tonight because i could see a menu easily and quickly

Great service and the best breakfast! I personally love the Blackstone Eggs Bennie and the stuffed hash browns! We have been going for years and years now and are never let down!

We stopped in after taking the ferry from Tsawwassen not realizing it was a Canadian-based chain restaurant.  After reviewing the menu, my wife and I decided to share a turkey club on wheat toast.  The sandwich came with a large helping of skin on fries, but the sandwich was pretty ordinary.

Generous portions of unsatisfactory food. Gave the benefit of the doubt and tried both breakfast and dinner and left dissatisfied both times. Food is over priced for what you receive. Service is friendly and prompt. Will not give it a 3rd try.

UP - Staff was very friendly here. Meal was... filling...<br/><br/>DOWN - Love me a good eggs benny. Hate me a bad one. I read a lot of good reviews about this place and despite my gut feeling, I gave it a shot while my car was getting worked on down the road. Greasy hash, flavourless bennies.<br/><br/>OUT - I knew what I was to expect before walking in, but gave it a shot anyways. Ricky's, White Spot, Smitty's, Denny's, - They're all the same.

Sad about the changes.. Went for lunch. New menu food was horrible. The staff are still terrific though which makes our never going back all the sadder.

Best vege burger. The portobello burger is excellent, full of flavour and well worth the price. Tried other restaurants whose attempts were a disapointment. Give it a try.

Great food, but the most wonderful server! Her name was Laurie, she was so helpful and smiled constantly! Was a great lunch!!

All day breakfast after 5:00pm. Today I ordered the double egger: 2 eggs, hash browns, toast and 3 slices of bacon. Because it was after 5:00pm, they didn't serve pancakes anymore, but for $2.49 I could get one waffle, this is called an upgrade! When I didn't get any toast or potatoes, I asked why, and she said, when you get the waffle upgrade, you don't get the toast and potatoes! So I was charged full price, $8.49, plus the $2.49 'upgrade' charge, and received less food!! I don't understand, and won't go there again.

I have eaten here for over 15 yrs. Breakfast is awesome and the coffee is delicious. <br/>The rest of the food here is the worst in all of nanaimo.

Great Breakfast. We have been to Ricky's numerous times. We've found their lunches and dinners are okay, but their breakfasts are great. On our most recent visit we had very friendly service. If you are looking for a good breakfast at a decent price we recommend Ricky's!

My meal was not "award winning". My partner and I are visiting Nanaimo from out of town. Not knowing where to eat, I did a search and Ricky's was our choice this evening based on the Best of the City Awards over the past number of years. Well, I can tell you, no award was won based on the meal we were served. The experience began when we were informed that the restaurant would be closing in 1/2 hour so if we wanted to eat, we should order soon. I asked if the ribs were back or side. The server told me that it was the first time in five years she had been asked and that she thought they were side ribs. I didn't order the ribs. We chose the steak which came with two sides. My partner asked what vegetables were in the medley and was told, onions, peppers, and peas. In fact it contained zucchini, onion, celery, cabbage, and beans. He also had mashed potatoe that was old, dry and not appetizing. I received caesar salad which had too much dressing and "chef's rice" which turned out to be steamed white rice!! The server said "it's not as exciting as it sounds in the menu". No doubt. Why didn't she tell me that it was plain white rice? The steaks were cooked to our liking but were quite bland. Appeared as though some Montreal Steak Spice had been put on them but the majority of it fell off during the cooking process. I am very disappointed with Ricky's and even moreso that it is touted as such a great place to eat. There is no way that the voters received meals like those that we were served. Interesting that there was no invitation on the receipt to go to a website with my comments like many chains...guess they want to avoid hearing the truth. Wish I had taken a photo for this posting.

New & Improved. Checked out the newly rennovated Ricky's for lunch and then another day for breakfast. Both meals were really good. Service was friendly and efficient.<br/><br/>Ricky's had a grilled cheese special posted on their sign when I was driving by on my way to Qualicum Beach. I actually waited to have my lunch here on my return and I'm so glad I did! It was sooo good and the fries were some of the best I've ever eaten.

New Look. Wow, I am surprised there are not more reviews for this popular neighbourhood restaurant. After spending a lot of time and money we went in to check out the renovations.<br/><br/>We arrived at 4:30pm. We were greeted by a hostess in too small pants and informed that they had just finished a "lunch rush" and "sorry for the mess". We were the only diners in the restaurant at the time. Another couple came in and because of this "mess" were seated in the booth directly behind us. That is one of my pet peeves. I understand about sections but really...the only two parties in the entire huge restaurant and you have to sit us side by side???!???!<br/><br/>Our waitress was again in a skirt to small and my older friend was concerned by what was on her leg (a new tattoo covered in plastic). <br/><br/>We ordered their special "Mocktails". which the hostess informed us were labour intensive (better be for $4). We enjoyed the onion ring tower with some chipotle mayo but the potato skins were lacking in flavour.<br/><br/>I decided to be adventurous and try the Chorizo Benny, but will perhaps stick to something more traditional next time.My companion enjoyed his fish and chips<br/><br/>During our meal the manager decide to turn the A./C on. not sure why its still April...so we ended up leaving on a sour note, b/c the waitress could not seem to do anything about it.<br/><br/>Do I think it was worth the $60 we spent. On lunch!?!?!? NO. Sorry, but the owner needs the right staff in there to make it a more enjoyable experience. The girls seemed to enjoy spending more time gossiping (loudly) then keeping their eye on the door. Maybe a chime in the kitchen every time the front door opened would help.

Great ribs and bbq fare

Stick to ordering the breakfast fare at this restaurant. I had the fish and chips and it was absolutely inedible!
