Review Coco Cafe - Nanaimo

I like Coco Café. The drinks and food are fantastic, the staff are friendly and helpful, and there's a sizeable parking lot right next to the place. My only two (minor) gripes is that the place is open only five days a week and closes on the early side 8am-3pm. Aside from this, I highly recommend Coco for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.

Edit: The issue has been discussed and fixed. I went today at 8 am too. Orders were all perfect, customer service was excellent, and the food was delicious. Definitely going back. ——————- Very disappointed this morning. I ordered garden bowl with poached egg and it was noted on my receipt and I also gave 20% tip because that’s the minimum we can do to support our local restaurants and cafes. However, when I got my order it was missing the egg. When I asked, the person who took my order talked to the chef and came back to say that I need to go back to the front door to order again or for them to put it again (wasn’t clear why) and when I said I already ordered that and she went to check the receipt and found out that yes it mentioned poached egg, she said it wasn’t paid for. Not sure how this can happen but anyway, i don’t think the incident was handled well.

Touring BC. Found this gem looking for a place for lunch. I had the chicken sandwich. Huge! My only meal that day. Our last day begore we went home, we went there for breakfast. The portion was more then qe could eat. Great service great tasting food and generous portions. Lattes were good too.

Read some good reviews and came to check it out for myself. They’ve set up and excellent order-in-front, pickup-out-back system, and the food came out quick given how busy it was. The food was all very fresh and tasted great, the soup was amazing!

Oh man.....this place along with the staff was amazing. We got in early and couldn't check into our hotel yet and we were hungry so we took a drive to find some food. Came across CoCo Cafe. Amazing food and prices right!! The staff was very friendly! I'd definitely recommend to stop here if you are ever in Cedar!

Amazing food and super friendly staff.

Although the food is good, it is pricey. Orded a breakfast bowl today with the simple request of no Hashbrowns and extra spinach/tomato in its place. My bowl was half hashbrowns and when I brought it back all I received was a "sorry" - no offered compensation for my $20 bowl I couldn't eat half of.

Love going to Coco's for breakfast! I got the BLT benny this time but I am also addicted to their bruschetta breakfast. Its a kid friendly place with a highchair and a little corner with some coloring stuff and a couple toys. The staff are very friendly and the beverages are good also. It's become our go to place even though it's 20 minutes away.

I have not eaten breakfast here and I have eaten lunch quite a few times. I have gone with a soup and sandwich combo each time and have been totally satisfied. You know that feeling you get when you’ve eaten some awesome food...this place delivers that feeling. Friendly happy staff. Counter order with staff delivery. Gotta find a reason to go for brekky!

You haven’t eaten here yet? We’ll then, your next meal out must be at the CoCo Cafe, if it’s not the wonderful and energetic staff that you are sure to love it’s the food. This is a must go kind of establishment. The Manager Melanie always goes above and beyond!

Fabulous food and service whenever I stop in. If you aren't really hungry, consider sharing a sandwich or wrap as they are extremely filling. Coco Cafe will divide the order on your plate so the soup or salad are shared evenly!!!

Had scones with coffee. Both excellent. Saw the breakfast bowls being delivered to other tables. They looked so good Nice to see a community cafe supporting the people of the community.

Great staff, welcoming environment, delicious food (turkey stuffing sandwich..mmmmmm) and the best London Fog drink I have ever had. It's clear the staff are proud to work there as it shows in quality of customer service and taste of products! Can't wait to try another item off the great menu!

Brought my husband here for a Father's Day Brunch. Staff was VERY helpful & pleasant, the menu enticing. LARGE cups of excellent coffee with free refill!! We had one of the Father's Day Specials - West Coast Eggs Benedict which was comprised of a healthy portion of smoked salmon, spinach, and tomato (could have left off the tomato . . . cream cheese or capers would have been better). The eggs were cooked to our preference and were perfect. The hashbrowns were excellent. Will definitely return!

Will Return Regularly!. From the outside it doesn’t exactly look at inviting and could have been missed from the road. However, upon entry the warm yellow walls and living room set up welcomed us with open arms. The staff were friendly and offered a number of suggestions for first time visitors. I hesitated on the Eggs Benedict (still have the stunning Two Chefs one in my brain) and went with the Strawberry Stuffed French Toast.

All the food prices included GST & PST. You have no idea the impact that has on the overall feel of the restaurant. The food only added to the wonderful impression given to this out of the way cafe. The toast was thickly sliced and had an amazing spice flavour. The fruit tasted fresh, served with some thick maple syrup. Overall, I would have done the meal again if I didn’t feel that would be to glutinous.

A lot of people know it takes really DELICIOUS food for me to return to the same restaurant twice in a year, but next Sunday I will order their eggs benedict and find out if it can beat out Two Chefs.

Just plain good!. Drinks made to order, even almond milk macha lattes! Great muffins, scones and cinnamon rolls, tasty soups, salads and sandwiches...and the staff is friendly and welcoming.

Stop in for a coffee, go for lunch, you won't regret it. And the cause for the cafe is worthy, employment opportunities for a wide range of abilities.

Cold lattes that are supposed to be hot drinks. When Sydney makes the drinks they are WONDERFUL! The rest of the staff not so much. I have had someone else make my morning latte several days in a row and they were not even tepid or even lukewarm they were so cold. Unfortunately, after paying almost $5.00 for the drinks, I did not taste them until I drove away. By then it was too late to go back and complain.

Additionally, I got a bagel which was supposed to be toasted that was hard, cold, and the cheese was not even melted. The prices are not worth what you get and much of the staff does not test temperatures of the milk and coffee with their thermometers.

COCO Cafe ... Such a friendly and fun place ... and good food too! Love it!

Fills Your Soul!. Okay.. I will reluctantly do this.... I fear the secret is pretty much out and I guess I think everyone should know... COCO's is a local gem, for a good many reason. Some would think its the fact that everyone that works there loves their jobs (which everyone knows "love" makes food taste better). You feel like you are known when you come in with a warm welcome and bright smiles. COCO resinates a strong community connection; life today that is somewhat uncommon. It allows people with disabilities to have a paid job, be a part of their community and have a wonderful time doing it.

COCO's is open at the crack of dawn! (6:30 weekdays).. Wonderful coffee (drip) but even better lattes....and if that is not your "thing" the blended drinks are ohhhhhh sooo good! Depending on the day you can buy fresh baked bread, that is cooked to perfection. Breakfast time menu offers a variety of items for the quick on the go people (breakfast sandwichs, muffins, cinnamon bun) and for people who want to sit and savour their breakfast in the sun light dining area. There is always a featured item which changes daily! The list of options given almost seem endless (gluten free, dairy free, meat free - full of meat.. there is something for everyone).

Lunch: Soups - Salads - Sandwiches and there is again - a daily feature..which one day could be locally caught seared fish and salad or could be something a little more exotic... you can check on their facebook daily to get a visual. They have take out soups which have been frozen if you feel like grabbing something to take home for dinner or tomorrows lunch.

Everything is priced reasonalbly (between Tim Hortons and Starbucks - but better than both hands down).

They have started to branch out into catered events and the response from what I have heard is really good, but how could it not.. the food speaks for itself.

I would love it all if everyone could experience what we have there.. but I still need a place to sit when I come in so lets not all rush at once....

Absolutely Fantastic. This place is absolutely fantastic and I have, and will continue to, recommend it to anyone! The coffee is great, the food is amazing, and the cost is absolutely fair! The concept behind the Cafe is something that needs to be supported, and the fact that it is so good makes it incredibly easy to support!

CoCo's Cafe. CoCo's is great. I have been going since they opened and I have nothing but good thoughts about place. The staff are friendly, gracious and professional and never fail to make you feel welcome. The concept of providing employment opportunities for young people with challenges in life are nothing short of commendable.
But wait, theres more! Yes the food is wholesome and delicious! From the soups, sandwiches, salads, parfaits, pasteries, coffee..............all fantastic!
They are here for all the right reasons and do it well. Do yourself a favour and see for yourself.

Had a piece of coco's banana bread. Tasted like baking soda. Not edible

When we heard raves about the COCO Café, tucked away in the miniscule rural community of Cedar, just south of Nanaimo, we felt compelled to check it out. The café’s history intrigued us as much as the prospect of a good meal. The COCO Café is the brainchild of the Cedar Opportunities Co-operative (COCO), a group of families living in the area with children and young adults with developmental disabilities. The group was in search of a project that would offer their young people the opportunity of socialization, employment and full integration into the community. The idea of a coffee shop came to mind and, much to the benefit of all concerned, has proven to be a great success. Casual comfort is the byword at COCO Cafe – it’s like being in someone’s living room The co-operative secured a large, bright space in a small strip mall in Cedar and has converted it to a comfortable and casual spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch. This is not a high-end operation – there are no linen table cloths, no dress codes, no menus (other than on the menu board above the kitchen pass-through). What COCO Café offers patrons is a homey, slightly cluttered (but charming) atmosphere complete with a fireplace, books, magazines and newspapers, comfortable chairs and sofas and lots of natural light. It is an inviting ambiance that encourages visitors to slow down for a bit and linger over something good to eat and/or drink. The main dining area is bright and cheerful And the food? Wel
