Came for the hummus. Got a brunch feast instead. Everything was AMAZING. So many flavours. Best falafel in town, hands down. Shakshuka was delicious. Grilled tomatoes with balsamic and goat cheese were heavenly. We ate like queens. Service was great. Can't wait to go back.

Good hummus bar in montreal in a great decor and a generally good ambiance. The menus (they have 2 sets) is a bit confusing and requires explanation. We ordered the hummus tasting and though it was generally good, some choices were amazing (falafel hummus) while other were ok (Iraqi hummus). We also tried the couscous which was very tasty. Quite a few of the tapas on the menu were not available that day which was dissapointing particularly as it was not mentioned beforehand by the staff. The food took quite a bit of time to arrive (30 min) which was a bit surprising. The portions, although they seemed small for the price were quite filling.The staff is nice but lacks a bit in experience and seems a slightly confused. As for the chef he was quite present in the room but busy talking to "les habitués" so unfortunately we could not get a sense of his passion for food unlike what other reviews mention. All that said the menu is interesting enough that I would visit again to try other items.

Birona is located in the Mile-End (so great place to have a drink after), among other great restaurants. Ballsy move, but they measure up quite nicely. The decor is tasteful, but unpretentious. They have private as well as communal tables. If you go for brunch, I highly recommend the vegetarian. Plates of beautiful and delicious dishes will line up in an overwhelming, yet exhilarating way. Of course, the hummus is great, but don’t let the « hummus bar » nomenclature stop you. It’s much more than that, and it’s some of the best and comforting food I can think of. Its Mediterranean dishes are simple yet bold and packed with flavours. For those who easily feel intimidated by unfamiliar food, I simply recommend you to let Alon, chef and owner of the restaurant, to take charge of your orders. Really, I couldn’t recommend it more.

We went here to try a new place and share an appetizer. The cocktails were good (~$13each). We shared a Moroccan hummus dish with warm pita and salad....(~18$) OMG it was SO good! Will definetly come bk.

The presentation is very attractive. The toppings are interesting. The service is attentive. I'm giving it only three stars because I found it to be very overpriced and the hummus is missing a flavor. $25 for three dollops of hummus is unjustifiable. As for th hummus, it might be the right flavor for you, but in my opinion, the hummus base could be much more tangy and creamy. Kudos though for the attention and cleanliness and lovely decor.

Peu importe si vous vous considérez comme un hummusexual ou si vous êtes simplement à la recherche de nouvelles expériences: Birona est un restaurant à essayer! Vous avez le choix entre plusieurs plats principaux: spécialités à base de hummus, sandwichs et salades. Dans tous les cas, il y a beaucoup d'options végétariennes disponibles (au moins la moitié du menu, si ce n'est plus) et une salade de chou est incluse en entrée. Gérez vos attentes, par contre: si vous prenez une des spécialités, vous aurez essentiellement du hummus (avec quelques variations comme des poivrons, de la sauce piquante, une salade de fèves noires, etc.) et du pain pita chaud. C'est tout! Les portions sont largement raisonnables et le hummus est délicieux mais, une fois mon assiette terminée, je n'ai pas eu le sentiment d'avoir profité d'un "vrai" repas. J'aurais aimé davantage de variété. En fait, un plat de dégustation aurait été l'idéal! Mes conseils: si vous êtes 2, je vous recommanderais plutôt de partager une des spécialités et de chacun prendre un sandwich ou une salade. Si vous êtes en groupe, prenez chacun une spécialité différente pour pouvoir goûter à plusieurs variations et arômes différents. Je crois que ce serait le meilleur moyen de maximiser votre expérience au Birona! Pour le reste, les prix sont corrects et le décor est moderne et chaleureux. Petite attention amusante: une fois votre repas terminé, le personnel viendra vous apporter une gomme à mâcher. Birona est un bel ajout au Mile-End!

The hummus is exceptional. I was there for dinner with a friend and we each took a different dish. I have nothing but good things about the hummus but for the price I would have expected a larger portion. The staff is great and the location is well designed. I would go again!

J'y suis allée pour souper. Moi qui est d'habitude très difficile et qui me retrouve souvent avec très peu d'options... J'ai été surprise par le nombre de repas vegan/végétariens/sans gluten. Des tapas et assiettes qui sortent complètement de l'ordinaire. Décor chaleureux. Nice ambiance. 100% satisfaite !! J'ai déjà hâte d'y retourner pour faire découvrir à d'autres personnes :)

J'opterais pour des combos 1/2 hummus & 1/2 salade ou sandwich. Un plat principal d'hummus est trop "lourd". Bravo pour la délicieuse petite salade de chou et top pour le service. On y retourne à plusieurs pour partager.

Très bon! Nous avons essayé (nous étions 4) deux sortes d'assiette d'hummus, deux sandwiches et une salade montée sur mesure selon les choix d'Amandine. Tout était très bon. Le prix pour les sandwiches est raisonnable mais par contre j'ai trouvé le prix des assiettes d'hummus assez cher. L'assiette viens avec des petits pains pita et une salade de choux. L'endroit est propre, moderne mais sans trop de tables, probablement pas assez. Excellent service! Tous ont apprécié leur repas et l'expérience! Nous allons sûrement y retourner!

Hier, je suis allée à son Resto pour la première fois et woowwww the hummus is just perfect . Très bon petit resto de cuisine méditerranéenne. Les hummus maison sont tous délicieux! Il faut essayer Le sandwich au schnitzel: extra bon! Le pain Est chaud et charnu, les salades goûteuses et les plats très bons. En plus, cest convivial et sympa. Pas encore essayer les fameux brunchs festifs du dimanche mais bien hâte !

Mon plat pour emporter de shakshouka végétalien (avec extra oeufs) était vraiment savoureux. Il vient avec une petite salade de chou (ordinaire) et des morceaux de pita (moelleux à souhait). C'était vraiment bon, mais je dois avouer que j'ai été vraiment déçue par la portion reçue. Il n'y avait qu'une couche de shakshouka remplissant le fond du bol, assez pour remplir environ un ramequin? Pour approximativement 25$ avec taxes et pourboires, j'ai trouvé ça un peu trop cher...

Really enjoyed lunch at Birona Hummus Bar. Very interesting menu, large portions, very satisfying meal with fresh, healthy ingredients. Menu items are clearly marked Vegetarian and Gluten Free. Will definitely go back.

Recently opened restaurant with a menu revolving around hummus. It's basically a lunch spot, situated in an area under development, where new restaurants are frequently popping up.<br/><br/>Simple square space painted in white, with a façade of windows letting in all the sunshine, long shared tables and healthy green plants suspended from the ceiling in round glass bowls.<br/><br/>The food was fresh, delicious, and surprisingly inexpensive for the portions served.<br/><br/>The ambiance was kinda awkward when we went. Two people that seemed like owners were present: one on his laptop near the kitchen entrance that never looked away from his screen to aknowledge any customers' presence. The other simply decided, while the place was nearly full, to spend over 15 minutes grinding coffee beans in the dining room (not in the kitchen) non-stop with an extremely noisy commercial grade grinder. Both acted as if we (all 25 of us) weren't there. <br/><br/>Other than this annoying detail that could easily be fixed, everything else was perfect.
