Exquisite service. The waitresses were both lovely. We ended up on a special anniversary night and the menu was spectacular. Wasn’t the quickest but, that is fine since the food was amazing. The Salmon appetizer and the Salmon entree were cooked to perfection. The goat was equally good and i had no idea you could add maple syrup as a sauce to goat. This restaurant was one of the highlights to my trip to Montreal. The only downside was the salad and the cocktail (Mombassa) wasn’t of the same standard as the other food. However Id still drink that again too. Can’t wait for my next Montreal trip to revisit this place.

we were there for a special event, part of Montréal en lumière and a special menu conceived of and produced by Lysanne O'bomsawin was our treat. a happy marriage of pan-African and Abenaki ingredients were presented (with beautiful pairings of South African wines) in a parade of gorgeously plated dishes, each with its own twist: confit de canard on a base of cloudberry jam, smoked trout, wapiti tartare,, smoked mutton and a rasberry paté with coconut ice cream. everything was delicious, the portions were adequate, the service and the atmosphere with a great pan-African playlist at a reasonable level wrapped the evening in a bright red bow. we'll be back for their regular menu, soon!

Book and Brunch
I had the chance to organize a brunch at Le Virunga restaurant as part of a literary meeting. The owners really liked the idea and the rest is a great story. Once again, the atmosphere, the set up and the meal were there. All the participants and my guest extremely appreciated their experience. Thank you for your opening, I will definitely be back.

This charming space takes you on a journey through its music, cocktails and exceptional dishes 100% designed by the chef. I love their story. If you live or visit Montreal, this is definitely a restaurant to discover. You will not be disappointed (solo date, as a couple, with friends or simply to impress your circle..Ahahah! Thank you to this magic duo, thank you for raising Africa in the heart of Plateau-Mont-Royal.

Excellent ambiance and food, a neighborhood gem with a very good selection of African wines at a reasonable price!! A wonderful experience with friends. Lovely decor and music, which was not too loud so we were able to enjoy dinner conversation. For starters we tried their Argentinian shrimp and the Maradi which is a cassava couscous with pan fried eggplant and okra, both were deliciously seasoned and the okra was prepared to perfection without a sliminess which happens if not prepared properly. The mains were equally delicious, we had the Faguibine which is the duck with sweet potatoes pure and spinach, we requested the duck be cooked to medium instead of rare. The Chef accommodated us and it was perfect, not dry at all. The other main was the Mouton and also deliciously prepared. Their sauces are mouth watering. Of course we had the desserts, we tried both desserts, the Crepes and the Bananas and chocolate cloud which was very similar to chocolate mousse and they too were excellent.
Our wine paired perfectly with the meal, it was an organic wine from Africa, a blend of cabernet and merlot.
We will certainly return and encourage you to go dine at Le Virunga. Last but not least was the wonderful and attentive service. Our waitress was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Merci pour un très bon repas et un belle soirée. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Really cute place, great service, really good food. The shrimp appetizer Was delicious, the goat entree had some of the best flavors I’ve had. We did not like the fish dish, was not aware it was a steak style with bone still in but everything else was had was really good.

Sure Food tasted good even though it was served cold! They had to re-heat it! I understand it’s a gourmet restaurant but the portion were extremely small, that was very disappointing. And let’s just say the owner’s nerve got the best of her as she was aggressive in the way she was talking!

Le Virunga is a wonderful place to go. The food is really tasty and make you discover the taste of African food in Montreal.
The entire staff of Le Virunga is amazing. The service & the way the plates are presented is just surprising. While eating your meal with a glass of wine or a cocktail , you can also enjoy good variety of music that keeps you in a good vibe with your date or friends. Le Virunga is a gem in Montreal.

Stopped into this hidden gem last minute on a Saturday night. Our waitress who was also the owner was amazing! This was my first time eating African Food so I really had no idea where to begin. She was eager to share a bit of African culture with us and wanted to be sure we were pleased with our selections. The ambiance and vibe in this restaurant could have kept me there all night. The music was lively. I felt like I was having dinner in someone's home versus a restaurant. Highly recommended! Will definitely be returning here.

Je suis allé dans plusieurs restaurants africains à Montréal, et je peux vous dire Le Virunga a mis la barre très haute, la nourriture est excellente (fusion Afrique et Québec), le cadre "cozy", les serveuses très professionnelles, vraiment bravo!!! J'y suis allé pour la St-Valentin sur recommandation d'un ami et je n'ai pas été déçu, ma femme a littéralement adoré!!Je reviendrai c'est certain!!! mention spéciale pour le cocktail Bissap-Vodka et pour le plat "Poulet à la mouambe"!

Ce fut pour mes amis et moi, une expérience culinaire étonnante et époustouflante.
Une Afrique qui se mélange avec délicatesse et subtilité à des saveurs d'ici et d'ailleurs sans perdre son identité pour un goût fusionnel en bouche.
Je n'avais pas commandé de dessert �, mais j'ai eu la surprise d'avoir un dessert et une bougie � (Dieu merci, qu'il n'y ait pas eu tout le compte de bougies, ouf...) pour ma fête.
En plus ma fille, est un peu tatillonne sur la nourriture. Mais, ils ont été à son écoute et l'on accommodée.

Je suis allée au Virunga il y a déjà quelques mois et je viens de tomber sur la page Facebook, je me dois donc de laisser mon avis ! C'est de loin le meilleur restaurant Africain où je suis allée ! Vous y rencontrerez des saveurs exotiques qui donneront à vos papilles l'impression d'avoir fait un allé simple vers L'Afrique tout en ayant un pied à Montreal. L'Afrique, un continent riche et généreux qui se retrouvera à travers votre assiette. En entrée une Poutine revisitée, des frites de plantain, un effiloché de chèvre et du fromage. En plat principal, un poulet à la sauce arachide et sa purée de plantain. Je n'avais jamais mangé la banane plantain sous cette forme et je peux vous dire que j'ai adoré. Pour terminer la soirée en beauté, un trio de beignets plus succulents les uns que les autres. Mon aventure au Virunga a donc été très appréciée. J'ai pu avoir l'occasion de discuter avec la directrice et responsable du restaurant, elle est sans aucun doute dotée d'une gentillesse hors du commun. J'en ai également profiter pour remercier le chef de nous avoir permis de ressentir ce genre d'émotion. Vous ne regretterez pas votre passage dans ce restaurant, je vous le garantie ! #parolesdunefoodista

Première experience dans ce restaurant et une chose est sure j'y retournerai autant je peut. Venez découvrir ces plats africains dans un autre univers. Présentation au top ainsi que la fraîcheur des plats. Je félicite les proprio qui ont décider de relever le défit d'elever la cuisine du continent africain à un autre niveau. Dans tout cela l'ambiance musicale était enivrante. Un voyage dans toute l'Afrique avec une diversité de genre.
Pour l'accueil impecable. Nous sommes pourtant arriver à presque 30 mn de la fermeture. On se sentais déjà gené mais la maitresse des lieux n'a donner aucune impression de chasser. Bien au contraire nous avons profiter d'un petit moment de causerie avec elle. Nous sommes rentrer très satisfaient.
Ne ratez pas l'occasion d'y aller vous risquer de rater une belle expérience.

Beau restaurant. Beau décor pour notre soirée. Cependant, j'ai trouvé l'accueil bien, mais parfois rude. Une impression d'énerver la serveuse /responsable avec nos questions et demandes. Je conseille de prévoir des alternatives pour certains clients ayant des allergies, notamment des accomodations particulieres à la place de se faire dire juste " non nous ne pouvons pas dsl ". Bien que je sois une hôtelière, j'ai trouvé les portions très petites. Malheureusement, pas rassasiée à mon départ. Dessert très bon! Cocktail 🖒 impeccable. Je repartirai espérant un accueil plus sincère et nettement plus chaleureux 😊
