This local gem was packed when we got there at 10 PM, but thank Goodness, we didn’t have to wait long. A glass of rosé with a few oysters at the bar, and our table was ready. The food we had was unquestionably very good, but you know what? Guys, you’re making one mistake – the bread you bake is pure sin, I had so much of it, I simply had to refuse myself a dessert :(
Ma place favorite pour le brunch & le lunch dans le Mile-End, toujours un excellent service & un menu surprenant ! Certainement un endroit à essayer & puis à adopter :)
Best burger in town.
Service is quick, staff is amazing and the food is delicious.
Definitely to be put on a "best places to eat in Montreal" list!
La nourriture est exquise et le service toujours impeccable! Les meilleurs scones ever en plus
Extremely friendly hostess. Very attentive wait staff. And amazing food. I had the salmon and scrambled eggs, with some super aromatic coffee and a perfect glass of apple cider. This was a five star experience from the very first moment to last. Thank you from NYC!
Cozy atmosphere for a perfect brunch or lunch! Service was friendly and the cuisine was tasty, unique and affordable! We visited from Ottawa and will definitely return when back in town. Thanks so much!

Excellent and unique brunch menu! Highly recommend making a reservation in advance because restaurant fills up quite quickly! Friendly staff too :-)
Bien mangé dans cette ambiance hypster. Le menu bien exécuté et bon service.
Brunchs géniaux! C'est notre "go-to" favori. Et le café est excellent. Merci barista
Bouffe excellente.
Service incroyable.
Belle carte de bières de microbrasseries.
I loved the details and the explosion of tastes. Freshness and intricate. The menu was seasonal and delicious.
Great spot for breakfast and a casual dining experience with a group of friends. Love the beer selection and the ambience coupled with location makes this one of the must stop spots during the summer or winter alike.
For Mothers Day this year we sought out Mile-End's Lawrence, often heralded as a top brunch destination in town. This high praise was confirmed upon arrival, as we stepped into a packed dining room – not to mention a small lineup of diners – for our first visit to this five-year-old eatery.
Today's Mile-End crowd was predictably young and cool, while also incorporating a number of families with children of various ages – ours included.
The brunch menu strikes a nice balance of sucré/salé with crowd-pleasers such as scones, french toast and smoked salmon, in addition to lesser-known items including kedgeree, scrapple and bubble & squeak (say what now?).
Our waitress – also a partner here – was friendly and very knowledgeable. Naturally, we had a slew of questions concerning the aforementioned funky dish names, all of which she expertly clarified in detail.
Lawrence is a symbol of the city's modern ideal of refined yet unpretentious cuisine. Today's spectacular brunch ensured everyone at our table was more than satisfied, mothers included; mission accomplished!
My girlfriend and I went to the Lawrence for the weekend brunch and we were not disappointed. I had the crispy pork infused polenta with bacon, sunny side eggs, and quite possibly the best Toast I have ever eaten. This place delivered on food and beyond. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The decor is warm, inviting, cozy, and bright. Amazing place. Definitely a gem and will be going back next time I'm in Montreal.
The most amazing breakfast! Some of the options were a bit too adventurous for us but what we tried was amazing! The fresh homemade bread was delicious and I even went next door to their bakery to buy an extra loaf. The place isn't huge so don't get there too late or you'll have to wait
Best lamb ever! Good service and nice casual ambiance will definitely try the brunch and will certainly visit the butcher shop. I really never had such a perfect lamb steak in fact I never had lamb 'steak'
My publicist told me not to mention this but I honestly can’t help the way I feel. Sometimes when you’re in love you just want to scream it on top of a mountain, go outside their house with a radio over your head, take them to the border of two states because one of their wishes is to be in two places at once…well that’s exactly how I feel about Lawrence.
For a classic, warm and hearty English Breakfast experience, you won't get wrong at Lawrence located at the corner of st. Laurent and Fairmount. Its exterior is not that flattering as it's painted all black, and its ambience is a mix of urban contemporary and British classics, a few classic sofas and chairs are put in the waiting areas right beside the door, many contemporary paintings/photos are hanging on the walls, tables and chairs are of British styles, there are also a row of seats along a long bench with checker fabrics which reminded me a bit of Scottish traditions. Other than that, the interior is quite simple and raw with some outdoor lights strings hanging across the room and air duct exposed on the ceiling. The bar is also very simple with various drinks and glassware put on a few racks similar to those you saw in a retail store.
Since I came at the brunch time and it's my first time here, I ordered what the waiter said is their signature dish: English Breakfast. While I was waiting I saw a young lady at the bar making espresso lattes with the various artistic paintings using the froth at the top, I consequently ordered one for myself, guess what, the young lady painted a beautiful heart for me, thank you :)
My English Breakfast arrived soon after, it looks exactly like a home made breakfast which consists of two slices of bacons, a large lamb flavored sausage, some hash browns and bean paste, a sunny side egg , some perfectly sautéed white mushrooms and two halves of french toast. I must say I enjoyed every bit of it, especially the bacons which are fresher and firmer than those from supermarket, and seem to be homemade with the smells of smoke still lingering, a taste I haven't had for a long time since my childhood. Some of the reviewers complained about the small portion, that is not the case for the english breakfast after which i felt pretty full.
From what I can see on other tables, their other dishes seem to be good and temptation to me too, I'll definitely return to try them out.
Bleurg. Visited recently with much anticipation. We snagged a spot with no reso (and no welcoming vibes either) but service was very spotty. Shared a few small plates which were okay, with the exception of the sea urchin linguine which was shockingly poor and poorly executed. Feeling confused and bummed about that experience. Will return, because I really want to like this place. Fool me once, etc.
Visited Lawerence twice while in Montreal as I was told we had to have breakfast. Our first visit was for lunch where we dined on interesting small plates and orange wine - our server found us adventerous and she was right. The second visit, I went with a group of people and we were accomodated at the bar. We were a little hungover from the night before, but managed to try several items from the menu, including the lemon custard donuts which were unreal. Loved both experiences but found the staff to be a little aloof but friendly nonetheless. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be back the next time I'm in Montreal.
Went for brunch. Perhaps after reading so much about it, i expected too much. The menu is orignal and the food was quite good, but the prices were too high for what you got. Too much pomp for what it is. One thing that particularly irked me is that the coffee was not included. I know 3$ is not much overall, but coffee costs so little to a restaurant, and the prices of the plate is so high that they should just include it with brunch service like all other restaurants do.
Maybe I expected too much from the very popular restaurant. Visited them for lunch with a friend and was quite surprised at the quality of food. Yes, on the menu it sounded very appetizing and I was so excited to try my food. When I got it, I was surprised at the portion a little bit and the taste. The food itself was very good, but I guess I expected a WOW factor, which I didn't get. It also was quite expensive for lunch ($50/2 people with 2 small dishes each). I might return for brunch since they're so highly praised for it, but not for lunch or dinner.
Good but not great. The place is small and simple. The service is friendly. When you read the menu it sounds appetizing and inventive but when the food shows up, it slightly loses its appeal.
Been always a huge fan of their brunch, especially their scone and pig trotter!! Though the line up is always long, but it was worth the wait. However... I felt the quality has gone down a bit these days... The scone wasn't as good as before :(
4/5 for Lawrence. It starts to get pretty remarkable that so many restaurants of similar quality can be located in such a close proximity to each other. Lawrence is interesting in that they have their own butcher shop just down the street, and that's where they get all of their meat products from: Themselves. All locally raised, and keeping with a very nose-to-tail menu, Lawrence really seems to embrace what is available around them. They were named in enRoute magazine's Dining Guide 2013 and they also serve breakfast on the weekends.
The restaurant is a decently sized room, located on a very desirable corner in Mile End. Our server was friendly, and happy to go into great detail with her descriptions and showed a lot of care and pride in their product. It's a dim and romantic room, not unlike many others, but still very comfortable nonetheless.
To begin my meal, I looked at the cocktail list and chose a beverage that consisted of bourbon and apple cider. I thought that the bourbon might be a little bit strong, but I was curious anyway as this drink sounded very indicative of the region. While it was certainly boozy, it didn't overpower the apple cider and both flavours played off of each other well. I found that it got better and better as I kept drinking - but it's possible that I was just getting drunker. The rosemary was a very nice touch.
We were also delivered two kinds of housemade bread and butter and they brought more when we ran out. The bread was very moist and deliciously spongy.
We ended up choosing a bit of a three course meal for ourselves, and our server seemed very pleased to oblige in creating an entire multi-dish evening for us. We began with the Charcuterie and Pickled Vegetables (Cotechino, rustic terrine, rillettes, fennel sausage, charcuterie salad, chorizo, Genoa, smoked ham - $16.00). This was a really nice spread, but unfortunately it didn't provide very much bread given the selection of meats on the plate. While I enjoyed the pickled vegetables, terrine, rillettes and charcuterie salad quite a bit, I found the meats to be a bit one-noted. They were all very cured and firm and there wasn't very much variation between them. I liked the rillettes the best, which is similar to a pâté.
We next received the Sea Urchin Linguine ($13.00). This dish was such a hit! We shared it between the two of us, and it was just the right amount given the rest of the meal that we were eating. The linguine was perfectly cooked and smothered in an incredibly creamy sauce made up predominantly by urchin. This worked so well, but given the creamy, melt-in-your-mouth consistency of urchin, the whole dish makes a lot of sense. This plate was such a delight and everyone should try it.
The list of main dishes really epitomizes what this restaurant is aiming to accomplish; from pig skin stew to grilled ox heart to hare, trotter and stout pie. One thing is for sure: They love pigs here and they truly appreciate how to use them in every way possible. I absolutely love the idea of not letting any part go to waste, and I wish that people were more readily open to trying things a little bit more out of the ordinary. As it turns out, they're some of the most delicious parts! I ordered the Pig's Trotter (Sauerkraut, dumplings and pickled chillies - $28.00). Yes, trotter, as in the pig's foot. After reading the description of this plate, it was completely right up my alley. By time this course arrived, I was already quite full, but this is a dish that has remained in my memory and that I have found myself thinking about more and more in the following days. This plate was quite incredible. It was all served in a savoury broth, and I loved the pickley sauerkraut, the tender dumplings and the super flavourful chillies that gave the entire dish a nice big punch. But the trotter was the star. I expected it to have bones in it, but it did not. The meat was fall-off-the-bone (if there were any) succulent and tender. It was very much like dark meat, where it was more flavourful than other cuts and more moist as well. The outside skin was crisp to perfection. This very well might have been one of the best cuts of pork that I have ever had and I certainly am glad that I branched out and tried it! This dish was something special.
We had absolutely no room left for dessert and left our meal at that. I would go back for the urchin linguine and pig's trotter easily. As I mentioned, they serve breakfast as well, and I can already predict the amazing bacon that will be on that menu.
Keberee.... Just fabulous!
One of Montreal's best brunch spots.. Fan of English-style breakfasts? This is one of the best places for brunch in Montreal. You may wait for a table but it's worth is!
Best brunch in town. Not to mention, the dinner menu is pretty fabulous as well. Be sure to try some of their private import wines.
Ox tongue: delicious although slightly oily.
Grey bream with zucchini flowers and chanterelle mushrooms and mussels: the best fish I have had in a really long time. The perfect ratio of flaky to crispy. Not sure why the mussels were there though.
Strawberry tart: not worth ordering.
Service: beautiful!
Overall: delicious although a bit pricey. Good place to go with your sugar daddy/mommy.
Happy Place. I've been to Lawrence twice. Once because I was stuck at the airport for 8 hours due to a cancelled flight and decided to cab it to Lawrence and once with my wife and another couple. Firstly the food is great. I have tried most things on the menu as I tend to order many different dishes for the table to share and they were all great. More importantly, I find that service in Montreal generally sucks. Either the staff is un-informed, not friendly, too affected, in a rush, not experienced, or just plain old poor Montreal service. Lawrence is the opposite. What made my two visits that much more enjoyable was the fantastic service, the smiles and the genuine care from the entire staff. Bravo!
NYC in MTL. Very hip... very cool... very NYC... the brunches are pretty good.. hits the spot.. dinners are so so... a tad pricy for something with no "wow" factor. The fresh oysters.. amazing however..! Overall.. a nice addition to the Montreal food scene. :)
Pricey but I was pleasantly surprised that it was really good... Definitely going back. Prices include tax and the menu changes from day to day
Buzzing Brunch. This place had been on my wishlist for months and it paid off! Constantly buzzing with people, this is a vibrant, fresh and great place for brunch on a chilly Sunday morning in Montreal.
The French Toast with fresh strawberries and raspberries is heaven. The fruit was full of flavour while the toast drizzled in sweet maple and canoe of creme fraiche was lip smacking. Not heavy nor sickly sweet. Washed down with a beautiful, warm cup of Earl Grey tea in cute porcelain teacups. My partner had the baked eggs, which were hot out of the oven yet full of fresh flavours and deliciously buttery. Even simple toast, cut thick was of the highest quality.
Service is fantastic, our waitress was incredibly polite, warm and welcoming as were the other staff.
We will be back again and again!

Bubbly H2O. Dining at Lawrence is dining in a hip and cool place in the Plateau. Definitely start your experience with Bubbles & Framboises, a yummy cocktail that will put you in the mood for a heavy but tasty meal. The first spoons of the sweet corn and bacon soup with shrimp fritters were fantastic, but it quickly felt less sweet and perhaps more smoky. Although, I could not get enough of the incredible shrimp fritters! The aroma of the Braised Beef for the main course was addictive; I enjoyed the tenderness of the beef, but felt the heaviness of the dish half way through. It may have been a more appropriate meal for a cold winter night. The service was outstanding; not only was the staff attentive, but they were very charming. Regardless how heavy the meal felt, I always find place for desert and the lightness of the strawberry and rhubarb shortcake reminded me that the summer is NOT over yet which should be celebrated with more bubbles!
Great experience. We really enjoyed Lawrence. Great sommelier, waiters and staff.
The ''Abats de veau'' were really tasty and the Agnolettis also.
Will definitely go back. Nice location too.
So good and tea leaves too a must!
Marc Cohen. He is the reason that I go to Lawrence. The food is simply brilliant!
Brunch. The food was just really amazing, great taste. We got there at 0945 and there was already a small line up,
Would be really nice if they had a terrace !
No doubt that Lawrence is definitely one of the top brunch spots in Montreal and on my list. The restaurant is always packed with people on the weekends. I first visited in April with my mom, and I’ve fallen in love with this place, so I chose to celebrate my birthday here with my friends! (Left) The menu; (Top right) Latte; (Bottom right) Early grey tea Lawrence ‘s menu sometimes changes due to what’s fresh during the season or on the market, so you can check out their updates on their Twitter . My mom ordered the latte when we visited in April, and I loved it. It was really smooth, and you can feel that the milk is really creamy and rich, but I’m afraid that I would feel full after that huge cup of latte, so I had the early grey tea instead, since it was also recommended by my friend! Their early grey tea was pretty good! It doesn’t have the astringent taste, and the flavor is still there after few refills too! Scone with jam and clotted cream I
Overall, everything I tasted was absolutely amazing (I had a bite of WangFood’s Pig Trotter). I will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes (perhaps with tfung). Service was good, I didn’t ever have to wait to get what I wanted, they seemed to know and came over fairly promptly. The restaurant seats about 30, which may be the reason that service is more manageable. If you haven’t tried this amazing brunch place, please do! It’s also situated near lots of other amazing food joints (Voro, Kem Coba, Fairmount Bagels) as it’s on Fairmount and St Laurent.
The menu falls into the more traditional trappings of brunch but with a strong British style. Tea and coffee is served in traditional china cups and the classic British breakfast is a staple of the menu. However, I chose to go a different way.
Lawrence had evaded us for quite some time. We kept hearing rave reviews about their brunch, their butcher shop next door, and their delightful English fare. Finally it took a friend from Paris to stroll into town to wake up the cousins, P’tit Frère and Diva #1 to plan a nice night out amongst family and friends. Lawrence is high end English food specializing in meaty dishes. If the restaurant wasn’t well known enough, their butcher shop ensures that they have the freshest meat and the best cuts. Lawrence is known for a menu that changes daily which is accessible via their twitter account: @lawrencefood. You can check out the day’s menu before to make a reservation. Diva #1, her cousins, P’tit Frère, Sweet Pea and Mr. Sheffield all went to Lawrence to celebrate the return of our friend from Paris. After a lot of teasing, discussions about our soccer team, plans for Halloween, etc, we finally got organized enough to order.
I always leave satisfied with the overall dining experience. Here’s why.
Our favorite brunch happens always here. Enjoy picture slides :)

The menu at Lawrence changes constantly depending on what’s fresh on the market. Must-haves? Well, everything I had tried there was absolutely delicious. I would highly suggest starting your brunch with one of Lawrence’s exemplary coffees or lattes along with a light, soft and crumbly scone ($4).

Been to Lawrence for brunch twice, both time the service and meal were just perfect. Definitely remind me of my time in the UK when I had scones with clotted cream and jam, and English breakfast in the morning. What's good at Lawrence? Pretty much everything. I would highly suggest to start your brunch with the scone, light, soft and crumbly, spread it with jam and clotted cream to make this scone taste heavenly. For the mains, look at the pictures below, see what your stomach tells you to eat. Chances are, you won't be disappointed.

My brunch at Lawrence was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had in quite some time. The food was delightful, as was the service. I plan to become a regular, and I kinda hope Pretend Plummer is one too.
A great English-style breakfast, some excellent pastries, and some good coffee were a great start to the day. I’ll have to add them to my Montreal hit list for return visits.
The menu at Lawrence changes daily showcasing market fresh ingredients always at their peak. The menu is published usually within hours of service for brunch Sat-Sun, lunch Wed-Fri & dinner Wed-Sat on their twitter account, the link to the menu on their website redirects you to the twitter account as well. We sat down at the bar, ordered a few lattes and a hot buttered crumpet with jam to start. Nothing ruins a morning meal like bad coffee, thankfully the lattes were exemplary, and beautiful as well; the girl behind the bar running the coffee machine finished both cups with beautiful designs in the foam. The crumpet arrived hot and plentifully buttered on a pretty little plate with a side of jam, it was awesome and

The burger tastes great and is easy to put down.
Everything – from entrees to desert (except the espresso) – was turbo tasty and I’d find it hard to believe that there’s something on the menu that isn’t put together with immense passion and love for food. While the food is of high quality, the price per portion is also quite high and so you can expect to spend between 50-80$ per person for a complete meal. The high price though is not only justified by the great food but also by the great service. Every waitress/waiter I encountered was eager to please and very welcoming. Besides their cool hipster-esque outfits, they all had spunky attitudes and had great input on every dish on the menu – really the way service should be at a restaurant. On top of it all, their experienced sommelier Etheliya Hananova was very bubbly and helpful in matching the right wine for the right dish.
I am admittedly a lover of many things British; British gardens, British Vogue and British accents all top my list of truly wonderful things. Such is the reason I was saddened to hear of the closing of Sparrow, one of my favourite (English) brunch places in the city. Happy I was, however, to later find that chef Marc Cohen and owner Ethan Willis simply displaced themselves closer to the St. Laurent/Fairmount intersection with Lawrence , an adorable 40 seat restaurant that opened last December. Like Sparrow, Lawrence serves brunch Saturday and Sundays to a long line up of locals. I recommend starting with their crumpets with butter ($3) or lemon doughnuts ($5 and sooo good) to share. Follow with Eggs Royale ($15), pain dore with apples and cranberries, or their classic English breakfast ($16) plus some extra Bubble and Squeak on the side ($4). Although I've only been to Lawrence for their brunch, there seems to be plenty of buzz surrounding their lunch and dinner fare. One notoriously c
:Mile-End/Plateau: My sister and I love brunch. And she sometimes turns to Montreal Brunch and Breakfast to get the intel on newer places (P.S. I, too, enjoy this site). A month before my visit, she told me about Lawrence . I wanted to try it for dinner but we were so slow to move this weekend and just couldn't get it together for a "night out". Or maybe it was just me. I was a bit of a mess this weekend. I think it started with the Pinot Grigio I pounded back on Friday night as soon as I got in. After that I was so sloppy - dropping things, lots of things, many times. *sheepish grin* We woke up late Sunday morning and Bixi-ed over to find a crowd. Luckily I was still half-asleep and could use the time to fully wake up. The host took our name and number and said he'd call when a table opened. It was about a 20 minute wait so we decided to get some bagels and enjoy the sun and spring breeze. Once inside, the place reminded me of Sunday lunch by the sea. Do you know what I mean? Pictures
Montreal Breakfast Review

Lawrence is a new addition to the plateau/Mile end area with an interesting story to tell. It had its roots as being the kitchen staff from The Sparrow which was one of the hottest brunch spots in the city.
I've mentioned these guys before, they are responsible for the best sandwich I've ever eaten. I went for brunch with a monster hangover and they sorted me out. I had the full english and a pot of tea. There was even bubble and squeak! Only gripe is the bowl type plate which makes it hard to manouvre things around and that there wasn't a hash brown, because their presence is always welcome. Can't wait to get back there for dinner. Brunch was less than $20, no booze.
Very cute and cosy restaurant serving a variety of small plates. I had the lentils and carrots which were absolutely delicious. The lentils in vinaigrette are savoury and fresh with some acidity brought by tiny pieces of pickles. The carrots were warm and sweet with a spicy touch from the muhammarra and a nice addition of mint (which surprised me). I had these two options with a cortado (delicious coffee by the way) and I felt comfortably full. The vegan options for breakfast are limited which is a pity but the server was nice enough to help me find vegan options in the menu.
My friend had the pikelets which were buttery and fluffy, as well as a fried egg which she was very happy with.
Went around 9:15am on a Sunday and was already bustling so I would go pretty early! The location is quite small but I really appreciate that it doesn’t feel extremely busy or noisy.
Here u could have amazing food for an affordable price.
Located at the intersection of Fairmount avenue est and Boulevard Saint - Laurent.
Exquisite decoration and high quality service.
It's a nice place for a brunch or lunch.
Even just for a cup of coffee and meet a friend.
The burger was really delicious!
Don’t be fooled by simple looking menu! Fantastic flavors and presentation. Cucumber salad a must try.
We did the tasting menu and everything was delicious. Pictures posted of each dish. Started with sushi - even though it wasn't cut with sushi knife, it was still sushi grade. They could open just a sushi restaurant if they wanted. Next was sardine with bacon on toast. The cabbage can out simultaneously. Then came a ravioli dish and then to the goose. Another salad of cucumber and radish was served with the goose. I wasn't a big fan of the beer called jet lag. For dessert we had apple bread which was amazing and the tart.
This restaurant makes you realize why Montreal is a wonderful city. This is an excellent place if you are looking for quality and service. Recipes are carefully made and delicately served. Tea and coffee are well chosen. The place is not big but simply decorated. I love it and I’ll come back.
Second visit: I still confirm my wonderful last experience. Excellent ingredients and service. If you are looking for something different, this is the place to try without a doubt. The vibe is good and you feel the passion for perfection: what else!
Great spot in a hip area, perfect for foodies with a lovely wine list and excellent servers. Especially loved the items made with local crab, mmm. We will be back! The owner was especially nice to us, seated us at at table even though our reservation was at the bar. Great neighborhood joint.
I went to a brunch at Lawrence following advices from friends and websites. I was not disappointed.
The staffs are very friendly. Work fast and very professional.
Food is amazing. Different than the usual menu from other brunches. Lawrence feels like a fancy brunch. Food is amazing with a diversity of taste. I am so lucky to have the opportunity to eat a brunch there.
On the other side, the place is small and waiting to get a table can be long. But the wait is worth it.
