Very tasty satay. The side peanut sauce was on point as well. Don't hesitate to inquire about the special fried rice of the day. It's a great option for a side or dish to share. Also love the fact that you can cash out using the QR code on your table without having to flag a server. Great idea to add fluidity in service and let people decide when they are ready for the bill.

Clearly my expectations were way too low! Every single thing we ordered was beyond delicious! Really enjoyed this restaurant. I recommend it to anyone!!

One of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. The food is authentic and delicious. The decor and ambiance fell like you’ve been transported.

We were just walking along notre dame, we were hungry, we checked Google Maps for a different place, saw the high stars and we found a gem! A very chill and hip atmosphere, great service and amazing food! Explosive flavours, interesting drinks and cool périple. We ordered all kinds of plates and are only half way through and I’m writing this positive review. We will be back!

visited montreal and my family told me I needed to go here and wowza, food incredible, music amazing, wait wasn’t too long and everything came out to us fresh and fast!!!! we had some spicy margaritas that were good but didn’t steal the show in my opinion. the pork bahn mi was super good but needed a bit more sauce and chicken satay was better than the lamb! lol

As someone who grew up with the cuisine, I was nonplussed by their offerings. The satay lacked any spicing accompanied by a flat peanut sauce. The gado gado salad had fresh ingredients but it was unfairly matched with a tamed dressing missing some tamarind and sugar. The Laksa was decent although it was a watered down version of the real thing- though a nice touch with the Vietnamese mint and the sambal chili. But the wacky deco and ultra hipster bar vibe makes up for what it lacks in the food department, if that works for you. Btw, there is no name sign outside. It is "word of mouth" only.

The lamb skewers is full of fat and laksa is not quite well cooked with shelled shrimp. The bun and ribs are good. Papaya salad is good too.

Honestly, best damn 3$ I have ever spent. I must now add the Tempeh Satay stick to my list of addictions (chocolate being the other). Just passing by the Atwater market, I got attracted by the obvious hype around the SB kiosque and needed a little taste. I almost ate the little paper sauce cup it was so delicious. I would eat this at every meal and as I'm typing this recommendation, I got drool on my keyboard.

First time trying Singaporean food and I loved it! We had the steamed buns, spare ribs, papaya salad, tempeh, beef braised in coconut milk, and chicken curry. Everything was excellent. The peanut sauce is the best I ever had and the beef was on point, a good kick to it. Also have to say that I loved that the chicken was bone-in, really moist and flavorful. Will definitely be going back.

They are such a bunch of cool guys. Alex is the best. We asked Alex for a bowl of noodles, Alex threw in a complimentary plate of satay, and a coconut dessert and thanked us for coming down. The food was great. The ambience was awesome. The guys at the place were the best.

I chose Satay Brothers for my bday supper with son Juliano tonight after seeing a review on tv a few months ago and was nicely surprised. The flavors are exceptional and on point making it well worth the detour from South Shore. I had been wanting to try the pork belly steam buns and was not dissappointed. Every dish was carefully executed with fresh ingredients, your taste buds get all excited and i could have easily tried more plates but had to hold back after papaya salad, satay meat sticks, curry rice & soup!!! Unfortunately i had to share the 2 buns with Juliano. Going back real soon for more , im addicted already!!!

Seriously, I regret not coming sooner to this restaurant filled with delicious food and energetic people. We tasted everything! But my favourite dish was the braised beef. It reminded me of my Hungarian stew. I felt like at home. I'll be back Satay Brothers. I'll bring my tribe!

My fiancé and I decided to try this place out of a whim on a Thursday night at around 7pm. It was busy but we got greeted and seated super quickly. Super friendly service, we ordered a few plates to share as everything looked amazing on their menu. The waiter also proposed their special of the night which was a bowl of clams, my fiancé took that and it was amazing. We also had the pork belly steam buns, Laksa soup, papaya salad and tempeh chicken brochette. We both enjoyed our experience there and would return with friends for sure!

Delicious food and amazing people! We ordered for a Laksa with Chicken (Chili shrimp coconut milk soup) and Alex gave us chicken satay and the Kueh Benka (Tapioca with butter and shaved coconut) as complimentary! We had the most delightful experience of having wonderful food served with radiant smiles by the friendliest staff we have ever come across. Thanks, Alex for giving us such a happy meal time today!

Amazing place. Excellent service. Fantastic food. Love the place. Good job Satay brothers.

My fiancé & I explored all over Montreal and Satay Brothers was the most memorable place we went to during our three days in the city. Go to Satay Brothers in the Atwater Market, order a few cold beers and enjoy an amazing meal at an affordable price.

Best restaurant in Montreal. The staff here is ridiculously gracious. The food is fresh and there's always something new to try. And anything you try will be your new favourite thing. Run dont walk to this place. Your tongue and tummy will thank you forever.

This is hands down by far the best and my favourite restaurant to share a meal with friends and lovers and even famil, though mine are all in BC ! I am an ex-chef in a wheelchair and I have been going to eat at Satay Brothers since it had an outdoor stall in behind Atwater Public Market. The restaurant on Notre Dam is ever so accomanating to me in helping me to get my electric wheelchair into the restaurant which is no mean feat !

Whether it is The Most Popular Restaurants Stall in the Atwater Public Market for lunchtime or whether it is the Restaurant on Notre Dam street right next to Jean Coutu Pharmacy for lunch or dinner the eats offered by the Satay Brothers is always the treat that we all deserve more often than not
! I have alway been overly pleased with all of the menu items at the Restaurant or the Daily Fresh menu offered at the Market, I would actually go one step further in that this recreation of Singapore Street Food with the accompanying heat in spicyness should the diner require it to be Authentic Singaporean Mana Street Creations that keep me coming back for more ! For my dollar this is in my Top 10 Restaurants in the Province of Quebec and more officially in the Top 100 Restaurants in all of Canada a spot that the Staff and Management deserves whole heartedly !!!

Do yourselves a huge favour and go to Satay Brothers whether in the Atwater Public Market, the Restaurant on Notre Dam or now even in the New McGill Hospital Centre ! Go and brave the weather or the lineups that do happen with the Best that Montréal Restaurants have to offer. You will not regret your choice even after a wait !!!

Fantastic place. First time here, staff knows their stuff, we were seated pretty quickly but it gets busy fast. The salads are big and (apparently) delicious, but the Laksa was absolutely the highlight for me. Coconut milk and chicken soup, with a little kick, and a bowlful of yummy goodness. It's quite filling, so just the Laksa might be enough, depending on your belly. Speaking of bellies - the pork belly buns were very good, but I kinda expected the meat to be a little more juicy - it was on the dry side. It's a small bun. Overall, great experience. Price: slightly on the high side for some things, but more or less reasonable.
Alexandre
This is truly the gem of the St. Henri area - the food and cocktails are amazing - definitely makes one want to return again and again. The staff are really friendly and the decor is kitschy in a charming way. The music is a bit loud but the song selection is on point.
Belén Baez
I definitely loved this place! I went during summer to Atwater market with a friend and we tried Laksa Lemak (a soup) which was delicious and spicy enough to enjoy. It's a popular place so we had to wait for 20 min to order but the day was nice so it wasn't such a big deal. I really recommend this place!

I think one of the things that makes satay brothers so good is that Malaysian food is something you've probably never had before them, and you suddenly realised that it's crazy you've gone all this time without trying it. Their pork buns are delicious, and their seafood platters are great as well. Nice to huddle down at Atwater Market in summer for a bite.
Owen Waygood
Amazing buns. Laksa was delicious. I like sour, but the green papaya salad had a bit too much lime and not enough tamarind for me. Overall definitely not a disappointment, having been to Malaysia and often eating Malaysian food when I can find it. Try it.
Eating Out Montreal
Last week, I partied way too hard. Like, WAY. Ugh. I remember tequila shots. And more tequila shots. It wasn't pretty. This level of drunkeredness (yes, this is an AWESOME made up word) only meant one thing: a huge hangover. No amount of water or tylenol would fix what was to become the winner of all hangovers: a two-day one. Ugh. I needed food. Good food on the cheap side. As I've said before, it seems like most of the restaurants in the South-West are closed on Sunday so Lea and I had to try to find la perle rare as we say in French. Loosely translated, a gem, nay, the holy grail! The winner of this lengthy search was none other than Satay Brothers.
Zee
Small selection of dishes but what they do serve is very good. I find the cost to be a bit high for what you are receiving considering that this is not a full service sit down restaurant. They're papaya salad is awesome.
Jane Revae McWhirter
The steamed buns at Satay Brothers are spectacular. I can not believe how amazing they were. The balance is impeccable. The bun is so soft, the meat perfectly seasoned, cucumber and cilantro for freshness, the sauce is amazingly flavoured with just the right amount. Over all a truly impeccable delight. Wow.

We started with a pint of Belgian Moon, pale ale with hints of orange and citrus which went well with our starters. Cool and refreshing the beer it hit the spot and quenched our thirst. We started with Steamed Pork Buns for $9.99, two steamed buns with crispy sautéed pork belly, copious amounts of coriander and cucumber in light vinaigrette of rice vinegar. Brains ordered the Gado Gado for $8.99 a plate of assorted vegetables like green beans, bean sprouts tofu and ramen noodles in Satay sauce. She loved the flavors and especially the sauce. In addition we ordered the Satay Ayama for $5.50 a chicken Brochette with peanut sauce, which again did not disappoint us. Only, it was not enough so we ordered another round of Steamed Pork Buns to satisfy our cravings and get our fill till the next time we were around here. What Brains and I enjoyed the most about this location of The Satay Bros was the festive atmosphere. The place is not pretentious and appeals to the millennial crowd which makes it hip and cool. Decorated in red with red and white walls and Chinese paper lanterns, it may seem kitschy to some but it is vibrant and fun

Can you believe I’ve never stepped foot into Atwater Market? Well, nestled away in one of the stalls is a super popular Indonesian/Malaysian/Singaporean spot, Satay Brothers. They’ve become so popular that they have an actual restaurant in St. Henri (about a 5 minute walk away) that’s open for dinner when the market shuts down.

Hours coincide with the market although they’re closed Monday and Tuesday. First time I came, they were closed but that just meant I could take pictures in peace. Drink menu - interesting that you can order pitchers. Perfect for summer drinking. Even though they have a paper menu, the board menu reflects actual prices.

The stall is very laid back and the guys working there are very cool. We sat at the two counter seats on the side and got to chat with some of the workers, which was pretty entertaining. Even when they were shutting things down to move to the restaurant, they didn’t rush us. Heck, they gave us some chicken satay skewers on the house.

- Calamansi lemonade ($3.50) - I’ve never had calamansi before in a drink so we decided to give it a shot. Apparently, calamansi is very popular in Filipino cooking. It added a nice tartness to the sweet lemonade. Light and refreshing, especially on such a hot day.

- Green papaya salad ($8.00) - the green papaya was refreshingly light, crunchy (from the peanuts) and had a nice acidity. A little pricey for the portion but it hit the spot.

- Laksa lemak ($11.50) - I’ve been lucky to have experienced some truly amazing laska’s in my lifetime so far so I know a good one when I eat it. SB’s laksa looks great but it’s broth is lacking in the depth and complexity department. It almost tasted watered down. Not sure if this was because it was near the end of their shift but it needed more creamy, fragrant, spiciness to it. Passable but that’s about it.

- Chicken satay skewers - as I said above, we were given these skewers on the house (normally they’re $8.00 for three). The peanut sauce could have used some heat but it was nice and chunky. The skewers were tender, juicy and nicely grilled but I was left wanting more from the glaze slathered on top.

I can’t really think of any other places in town that specialize in south-east Asian cuisine so you’ll have to make due with Satay Brothers to get your fix. Not a bad way to end my trip!

Visited Atwater market with some colleagues and decided to try satay brothers! The line took a while on a Friday during peak lunch hours, but worth the wait ! I had the coconut curry shrimp soup and it was delicious ! So flavourful and tasty! Would recommend to everyone

Heard so much about the place, but honestly the food was okay, almost a little bland and slightly overpriced too. I guess I could go back for the market atmosphere, but it really doesn't deserve all the acclaim it got. My grandma makes a better papaya salad.
Dalia Broca
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is lively and fun! The food is tapas style but they have full plate options as well! The tables are large so you sit with other people. It was a bit of a wait to be seated and we were only two. Also, The drink menu which is written above the entrance on the wall is not clear as to what the drink entails which made ordering one a hassle. Definitely would go again!

I finally found a place that serves Laksa!!! Piping hot and just like they do it in Malaysia! Fantastic find!! Hubby wasn't crazy about the buns, but good nonetheless. Lovely, casual environment. We'll be back for more Laksa asap!

Have been wanting to try this place out for a long time. The pork buns were delicious, the soup was amazing and the satay very yummy. Would definitely return!

I have been an ardant lover of Satay Brothers since they started up in the Atwater Public Market. I can be found at the side of the booth most summer days, the guy in the electric wheelchair. This is by far the best restaurant in the entire sud-ouest of Montréal, par none and I know my food as I worked for 25 years in the hotel food and beveragge business.

The restaurant is the most sure bet any day you need to spice up your life a bit with some South West Asain fare. I have been with my Girlfriend a few times and also with friends and business contacts as this is the place for a good late lunch. Dinner a few weeks before the holidays blew away my West Coast friends they have never had such wonderful atmosphere. wonderous meal and knowledgable and, kind staff from the Kitchen and the Service Area too.

Delicioussssssss food! We took a few plates to share that were all so tasty. Will go again for sure and the staff are super friendly :-) keep that place in mind!

This restaurant serves authentic Asian food, it kept the essence of Asian food with a touch of innovation from western food. Most of their dishes are quick to prepare with a lot pre cooked ingredients. So it lies somewhere between a fast food outlet and a full blown restaurant. Ideal for breakfast or lunch. What's amazing is that the owner and staff of the restaurant are mostly non-Asian, but their restaurant exhibit more Asian culture elements both in terms of deco and food than many Asian restaurant run by Asians. I ordered a steamed bun pork sandwich and a seafood soup. The steamed bun was quite good but a bit too small, the soup is quite spicy similar to Thai style Tom yum soup with bean sprouts, a small piece of pickled stink tofu curd,a half boiled egg and a few chunks of fritters, a true Asian delight. The only down side is that the price isn't cheap and portion isn't big either, so you might still feel hungry after spending almost 20 bucks on the food.

My wife and I tried this place tonight having never had Malaysian before and were completely blown away. It was so good, I'm actually angry I've never had this before.

The bartender basically ordered for us and we are whatever he said - I recommend going that route because you're sure to be satisfied.

Terrific food, terrific service.

Belle ambiance, staff souriant! Bref, j'y retourne c'est sûr!

Great Singapore style food with distinctive flavours. Makes for a nice lunch casual lunch spot. My only complaint is that the portions are small for the price.
Jessica Nuda
Great food, lovely atmosphere and fair pricing. Their steamed pork buns are delicious, the mango salad is a must try. Perfect for a group of friends or a first date.

We've been scratching our heads trying to come up with something we would have different at this little gem of a restaurant (we're picky like that); but we couldn't. Everything from the fun, casual mood to the excellent, affordable food and efficient, friendly service is just flawless. With their latest expansion, the Satay Brothers can pride themselves with THE hottest joint in Saint-Henri and our absolute favorite Asian eatery in town.
Seb's Urban Adventures
Cool ambiance and good food, perfect place for a quick stop on a busy day. The steamy buns with pork were excellent, the bun not been too sticky. Also enjoyed the meat stick that were well seasoned.
Sourberry
Great place to enjoy with a group of friends. This place can get loud but their new restaurant space is beautiful. Service is fast and food comes out piping hot.

All dishes are meant to be shared so it's best to go as a group so you can order many things. Everything was good, but the highlights were: fried prawn dumplings, laksa and the papaya salad. The garlic chinese brocoli is also underrated and i recommend it.

The place is busy so go early if you want to avoid the wait.
Adele Katherine Ramos
The Main Bartender Who "Claimed" to Own this Place is a real BAD... He tries to get young women drunk so maybe they will sleep with him TOTAL #PIG ... An when I called him out on his behavior he got pissed and told me to leave or he would call the police... The Food is ok.. there are a lot of hit and misses but in a city with little competition in the Asian Fusion Genre ... Where else can you go... #NOTHERE I hope

Fair FOOD - With BAD STAFF - Why give your money to #DEMONS ...??

Find a More Noble place to spend your hard earned dollars...

With Truth, AKR
It's an understatement to day that I crave Satays every single day. Their Laksa is the best I've ever had. Lovely place and staff. I love it :)

This place never lets me down! Fantastic food and atmosphere. Pork sticky buns, mango salad, noodles... Love the staff, can't say enough good things.

When you have a friend's gathering with kids and you don't know what to eat, Satay brothers might help you. Their winter location has enough place for kids and a little group. The waiter can also recommend you the right place with accommodation size. In general, their food tastes great but spicy at time.
Fabian
The names is hard to remember but the tastes definitely quite unique. According to the waitress a Singaporean flavor makes them unique. The previous location felt like small jewel, this new site is larger and more comfortable but it lacks the character of the old tiny site. ... then again... we are here for the food right!
Montreal Food Divas
After spending the day outside, taking in the sun, Diva #2 and G-Spot were getting a little hungry. Or rather, Diva #2 was hungry and made G-Spot change her dinner date plans. But it was also the perfect opportunity to meet G-Spot’s new beau and torture him a bit!. We headed to the brick and mortar of Satay Brothers on Notre-Dame Ouest. They also have a location in the Atwater market which is open during the summer months but we chose the original location. Satay Brothers serves authentic South Asian cuisine and more importantly, when dining with someone with self-inflicted dietary restrictions, vegetarian options.
Good Morning Montreal

Great food and energy. Unfortunately our experience was lessened due to an error in processing our order. My wife was served quickly, I waited for my order. When I noted that a few orders for the same food were being served despite having been placed after mine I enquired. After a brief scramble I was told my order would be coming shortly. When it was delivered the staff made excuses rather than simply recognizing their error. The latter is what dinged the score.
Magali Janvier
Delicious south-eastern asian food. Always fresh, always good. Their new location has a cool and casual ambiance but the service can be a bit shaky. The entire menu is amazing but rarely changes - which is why it's perfect cooked all the time!

Suite: http://yulorama.com/satay-brothers/

I really enjoyed my experience at Satay Brothers!

We showed up around 6:30 and didn't wait more than 10 minutes before our party of 6 was seated.

Everything was delicious and we especially enjoyed the skewers and bao (my new favorite snack!) However be warned, when they say spicy - they mean it!

Fun and relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Tamara H.
Tried the chicken satay, papaya salad, shrimp curry deep fried doughy balls and shrimp laksa soup. The best thing by far is the chicken satay. The rest was underwhelming (because I had high expectations). Will go back for that chicken yum.
Zed
Tiny spot for asian fusion food. Casual service, usually the brothers are there. Interesting but short menu with everything tasting amazingly delicious. Take lots to try, and take home the rest for later.

What a hit! Alex and Phil h.... What a hit!
Alex and Phil have outdone themselves and surpassed all expectations. Great ambiance, amazing food, unpretentious atmosphere, what more can one ask for? Not to be missed. After 4 years at the market the St-Henri residents can now delight in counting on great food, fantastic service from a friendly group who enjoy what they do at their new Notre Dame spot.
Rudy Gee
Awesome ambience. Alex and Phil are great hosts. Hands down best place in the "hood". Unpretentious atmosphere. Great service. Try to get a seat in the back just to watch the kitchen do its thing. Food is delicious and affordable. Try the specials.
Highly recommend.

Love, love, love. If you are in Montreal and haven't visited this spot, you need to go today for lunch or dinner....or both!! We visited for lunch and made sure we made the most of it. We went for the Papaya salad, pork bun, chicken satay and the Kee goreng which is a noodle dish. It was superbly amazing. Even though I am not a big pork bun fan ( I know what's wrong with me right?) I really enjoyed this one. I advocated for the papaya salad as when they are right, with the sweet, sour flavours together..mmmmm, so good. Definitely a salad that pushes the salad boundaries and very bright compared to other dishes. The stays was ridiculous and it was all about the dipping sauce. It was a little dense but who cares un was un fricking amaze balls tasty. And the noodles. I love me a good stir fry noodle dish. Not too heavy but perfect compliment to everyone else. Unfortunately, the 2 guys next to us didn't get served and left, it's unfortunate as it was a great meal. Perhaps we all came in at the same time and the restaurant got totally slammed but you shouldn't miss clientele as a server. That wouldn't deter us from going back but perhaps mgmt reads this so that they are aware....the guys seemed busy. all that to say we we love this spot. Nice to have Asian without it being totally deep fried and laden in sauces. Well done Satay Brothers!

What a place!. Following the baseball game at the Big-O (Jays lost, booooo), we had the distinct pleasure of going to Satay Bros. for a late night snack. We had been planning to go try this restaurant for a while based on all the reviews, and being downtown allowed for the small detour.

Thank goodness for the new extended hours! We only managed to get there by 10:45pm because of the after-baseball traffic. The place was still bustling! Upon entering we were immediately greeted by a waiter who seated us, explained the menu, and took our order.

Upon his recommendation, we ordered the Laksa soup, Pork Buns, Papaya Salad, and the Chicken Satay. Our orders were promptly brought by another waiter who checked on us several times during our meal.

The food was out of this world and very authentic! I would have to say some of the best Singaporean food we have ever had! The Laksa soup was phenomenal. My face sweats when I eat spicy food, and this was definitely no exception. The Pork buns... OMG. What can I say that has not already been said. The pork belly was succulent and sweet, and the buns themselves were divine. So much so, that we ordered a 2nd order! Brought to us by yet another waitress who checked on us. The Papaya salad was a great contrast to the whole meal... and the Chicken Satay, well let's just say you don't go to Satay Bros' without trying their satay!

As we ate, we were checked on by yet another person, this makes 4, who turned out to be one of the owners making sure that everything was to our liking! With the place as busy as it was, he still took the time to chat with all his customers!

Everything that has been said and written about this place is true. You HAVE to try it!
We'll be back soon to try some of the other recommendations!

New spot is great. Amazing vibe and even better food.

Went for the first time last night after hearing a lot of good things and was wildly disappointed. My waitress was awesome. But that was the highlight. The servers bringing the food were less than adequate, and started walking away with my dish when the couldn't figure out I was at the end of the long table. While the entrees were good the mains were failing. Tiny portion for a main. It would have passed as an entree in any other restaurant. And the presentation it looked like some one had scooped it out of a steamer tray in a buffet and tossed it on the plate.
The place itself was overcrowded. No one likes to eat with someone looking over their shoulder waiting for you to finish so they can take your seat.
On top of all this the owners were rude and insulting to their patrons. Asian Perfection!. Satay Brothers is a wonderful, friendly and incredibly delicious. From their very popular stand during the Summer, at the Atwater Market. To their recently renovated location on St.Henri.
Their food is packed with flavor, as well as simple yet beautifully presented. With their kind and wonderful sense of humor and kindness, never a dull moment seeing the very hard working guys behind Satay Brothers.
Their steamed buns, with tender flavorful pork belly, is outstanding. You like some kick? Definitely order their Laksa soup, it packs a great deal of heat, with loads of flavor. A must try!
Their prices are very reasonable, it will make you want to order numerous things from their menu. A great spot, a must try!

I have been several times and always love the food. It's authentic and the athmosphere is super welcoming. The only downsides is they're very busy for such a small place and usually understaffed in terms of servers, but every time it's always worth the wait.

Went there today for a quick bite....it was our first time and it was great......lemak soup was to die for, as well as the papaya salad!!! Had some hot sake to warm up too......Will go again for sure!!

Hyped food. I heard lots of good things about Satay Brothers and decided to go give it a try. Long lineup, it's usually a good sign. Ordered papaya salad, satay skewers, pork bun, pork sandwich special of the day, lemonade and mango juice. The food didn't taste as good as people have been praising them for. The papaya salad was great and same goes for the pork bun and the drinks. But the food is not worth the price were being charged for. The satay skewers and their peanut sauce is pretty weak in flavor. Pretty bland. It pales in comparison to anything Markham has to offer. I want to encourage their business and their effort but food is as good as buffet. Sushi Palace makes better tasting BBQ skewers. 35$ for 2 and still hungry.

Hands down my favourite restaurant in MTL. The food and atmosphere here is amazing, you should eat here.

Clearly one of the best Asian food restaurant in town. Awesome food and great service. Unique and brilliant.

4/5 for Satay Brothers. Here's what I've been able to gather about Satay Brothers on my own: This restaurant started out as a food stand in the Atwater Market, one of the city's biggest and best farmers' markets. It was opened by two brothers and people loved their take on Singaporean street food. Finally they opened their own restaurant only recently in the Sud-Ouest. In fact, it was voted as the #4 Best New Restaurant 2013 by Cult MTL, which is how I heard about it. I've gotten the impression that the public was very excited about their transition into a real brick and mortar location, but I am also to believe that the Atwater stand is also still operational, at least in the summertime. Unfortunately for me, I missed all of this hype and simply strolled into the restaurant without all of the excitement and anticipation behind my visit.
The location isn't anything glamorous from the outside and there really isn't a lot else located around this spot. The tip-off that you've found the right place is the red lantern hanging outside above the front door. Once inside, you're greeted with a warm and friendly room, bright with red paint and decidedly tropical and Asian in it's theme. We were seated at a table for two by the window and began to take in the chalkboard menu on the wall. The selection is small and the prices are quite low - it's also important to note that they only accept cash as payment. While there are only a few key dishes on their menu, the variety is quite impressive, with each dish being completely different from the last.

I got a Coco Pure ($2.61) to drink which arrived in a can. In my opinion, coconut water is just as refreshing as plain water. You can't go wrong with this sweet and nutty beverage. They also offer other tropical fruit juices such as lychee and passion fruit, which would be equally good choices.

Asian food is typically best consumed family-style, so my husband and I selected four of their dishes and were told that we should have enough food for both of us. The food came up after only a short wait and the first to arrive was the Laksa Lemak ($9.13). Beautiful, red-hot and dangerous. Laksa is a popular spicy noodle soup in south-east Asian culture. Lemak style refers to the use of coconut milk in the broth. They also make their own sambal (chili sauce) in-house, which I found very exciting. The soup consisted of a tangle of noodles and bean sprouts with a few garnishes on top including a quail egg. The flavours were hugely spicy and sweet, holding nothing back. Certainly the correct bowl to warm you up on a cold winter's day. Next time I'd be interested in trying the Mee Goreng instead, a fried noodle dish.

Next was the Green Papaya Salad ($6.09). This was an excellent way to bring some freshness into the meal, and I'd always wanted to try this type of salad. The twirl of long strands of shredded papaya were a lot more vinegary than I'd expected, almost as if it had been pickled. The dish is slightly tangy, with the fruit remaining quite crisp. I enjoyed the crunch of the peanuts as well.

Surely we wouldn't visit a restaurant called "Satay Brothers" and not try the satay. Satay du Jour ($6.09 for 3). The name of the dish suggests that they offer different takes on satay each day, possibly with different meats and/or marinades. The three skewers of cubed chicken arrived with house-made peanut sauce and some crunchy cucumber. To be honest, I've found satay to be quite boring in the past. But this satay opened my eyes to what it could be when done well. The meat itself was gorgeously tender and expertly seasoned with a caramelized, glaze-like coating. Delicious grill flavour was evident and they tasted perfect when coated in peanut sauce. If you need some satay convincing like I did, let the brothers of satay show you the way. ;)

Lastly, we had the Steamed Pork Buns ($6.96 for 2). This was a bit of a funny coincidence for us because we had just been listening to a podcast where the hosts were talking about how much they love pork buns, and were remarking that we'd never tried them. I sure am glad that we've been let in on this delicious secret! You'll often see these buns enclosing the meat completely, almost more like a dumpling, whereas these ones were served a little bit more like a taco. Instead of the meat being shredded up inside, this was a gloriously saucy and savoury slab of pork, cushioned inside a pillowy-light bun and alive with Asian flavour. So simple and certainly street food, yet so impossibly delicious. These are a must-try.

I would still love to visit their stand at Atwater to compare any differences, but this Singaporean food was huge on flavours, low on price and boldly exciting. They already seem to have a vast amount of loyal followers and will surely continue to do well.

Delish and authentic. It's not Chinese, it's not Thai so if people expect to have americanized teriyaki chicken with disgusting General Tao Chicken it's not for you.
Yes it's a bit of a wait but I think it's worth it. I happen to live very close so I pass by often and I enjoy the casual but friendly service. There isn't going to be a waiter up your ass asking if everything is alright every 5 minutes- if thats what you want go somewhere else. The menu has constant items like Satay and Mee Goreng and they also have weekly menu items that change. These guys use local ingredients and are very knowledgeable and proud in the food they make. Try it!

Did I like it? No, I LOVED it!! Pork buns are simply the best, great satay with the perfect sauce, very tasty laksa lemak. I will certainly come back many times here. It reminded me the delicious food I eat when I travel in Asia. It might be far from mile end, plateau but as the people next to us were saying "it's worth taking a cab to have lunch here" :)

Great date spot. I walk by this little gem everyday and never thought to try it out. I decide to go in today and see what all the hype was about. On the outside it looks very inconspicuous but as soon as you step in, the charming ambiance and the different oriental fragrances take over your sense. Although its very small (and i hear theres often a long line up), the friendly staff and the delicious food make it an instant favorite. We had the vapour buns, the laksa, the chicken skews, the papaye salad and the coconut rice desert. Everything was delicious. However, the food is very spicy, so sensitive stomachs beware!!
10/10 would recommand.

Incontournable.

One of my favourite asian spots in Montreal! Very well priced for the quality of the food offered. Can't go to satay bros and not try the laksa, it hits every spot on your palette!! Never been disappointed, and I'm an objective regular..

Overhyped!!. I've been to Satay Brothers a few times, and I have travelled all over South East Asia extensively just to eat the food over there.
Satay Brothers is way overrated.
The food is nothing like what you find in South East Asia, especially what you find in Singapore and or Malaysia. It's flavourless compared to what you find in Asia.
The best thing on the menu are the satay skewers.
The papaya salad is just ok and that's not cool for such an important menu item.
Oh yeah ... the owner and some of the rest of the staff are a-holes.

The cashier was grumpy and wasnt that friendly..actually the guy who brought the food to the table were so much nicer lol
Chicken laksa wasnt the best according to my indonesian tongue..but the satay sandwich and the chicken satay is deliciouso

Umm. The satay skewer was pretty good,
porc bun..not so much

Average taste, kind of pricey. Very busy on a Sunday at Atwater market. Cashier was very charming but when it came down to being served, I waited 20 minutes before the cashier noticed me and handed over my order that was starting to go cold. Server actually argued with me about calling my name '3 times really loud' when I was anxious waiting to hear my name being called not 10 feet away from that spot...will not be going back.

Specialization is almost always good. Thai specializing in Satay and they do it well. Wait times and lines can be annoying but the food is spicy and good, MB rating 7.

-----29 Aug, 2013-----

User reviews. Good place at Atwater market, poor hours of service though. MB rating 7.

While the food here is usually very good, today's Laksa lacked some pizzaz. The broth was good but needed a burst of lime juice or some acidic flavor. I counted 1.5 shrimps, come on guys - lets not be stingy. And the pork puffs were stale. It was still good but could have been boomtastic.
Mtl Foodie
Not impressed. Not sure what the hype is all about. They served me a sloppy sandwich with chicken that tasted like fish. Furthermore the service sucks, not sure who these guys think they are. I waited 15 min in line while the server blatantly took the orders of select cute girls both in front and behind me. Once i placed my order, i had to wait 30 minuted to get my measly sandwich. I get that these guys are hot right now, and i'm happy for them but they can't let it get to their heads.
Organic-V
Average. Not bad, nor good. Maybe I'm overly severe due to the tremendous hype this place arouse...but I wasn't impressed.

Delicious BBQ skewers and cold beer (Creemore)--perfect for a hot summer day at the market. We tried one of the salads and weren't terribly impressed (the papaya could have used less vinegar), but if you stick to what they're good at when ordering -- which is, of course, satay -- you can't go wrong.

Overall Good. The interior is very simple, cozy and intimate, not to mention tiny. There are three communal tables and a small spot on the bar to choose from, just about enough to seat 30 people at most.

The wall menu, written on a chalkboard, features a few fan favorites such as the satay chicken skewers and steam buns, as well as other Southeast Asian dishes and a section for changing specials.

We went with the Tofu Steamed Buns (a hit), Laksa Lemak soup (a classic!) and Mee Goreng noodles (so-so).
Bella_flores657
Overall Good. I liked the fact that they took the Singaporean hawker concept to Canada, having a team of guys working at pushing out a menu that no one else is really doing in the area.

I will agree with a previous poster that the portion sizes are too small for the price. I'll clarify: the portion sizes are right, but the prices are wrong. I love the fact that in Malaysia (read: Penang) and Singapore, portions tend to fall on the small side, which is great because a little bit of a good thing is better than too much of one. It's just that the prices should have been a bit lower for these correct (in my opinion) portions.

Tasty food, but worth the wait?. Tried Satay Brothers for the first time recently. The food was very tasty, but not sure I'd go out of my way for it... and the waiting time was extremely long. Both to order and to get the food.

I finally got the chance to try this place out after hearing all the hype about it. You can tell it is a trendy spot with a bunch of brothers and friends having fun which is cool. I was lucky enough to go on a Monday afternoon so the wait wasn't too long at all. I tried the basics, satay of the day, the steamed pork bun and the green papaya salad. I give the food a thumbs up. It was good but wasn't amazing by any means. If I am in the area and no line up I would have it again. I wouldn't go out of my way or wait in a giant line up how ever.
Geoff C
Food is fantastic. Worth the wait in lineup.

Absolutely fantastic on all counts. Food, service, ambiance. This place must not be missed. If there is a line up, just wait! Your taste buds will love you forever :-)

Get a buncha friends, take a long walk to st-henri, order everything on the menu (maybe double up on the pork buns) and feast. thats all.

Little summer gem hidden within the atwater market. Everything on the menu is delicious and different, full of flavor yet subtle. Discovering this place unexpectedly was a real treat. I can honestly say that this place blew me away... Never had anything like this before. You owe it to yourself to try this joint.

Margaret Sakhrani
It's good.. But if you are really hungry this is not the place for you

Great South-Asian grub. Pork buns are out of this world. Super friendly staff and dirt cheap (lunch for 2 = $25).

Amazing!. Nothing like it in Montreal. Steamed pork buns are awesome and the spicy papaya salad is a must! These guys have to open their own restaurant!!

All of them are super delicious, but I can’t help but feeling ripped off because the portion is so small. :( I definitely need 3 times the food just to get a full meal.

Thus, meet Satay Brothers. Located in Atwater Market, for those of you who don’t know where it’s located it is in fact not located at Atwater metro station but a short walk down Lionel-Groulx (something that DC did not know…it’s okay brah if you’re reading this we all make mistakes! some more stupid than others but no worries, no judgement.). We waited in line, but it moved fast so all was good. Soursop Juice Soursop Juice They carry a wide range of exotic Southeast

I so desperately want to be one of the guys. Alex Winnicki and Mat Winnicki, the life forces behind this restaurant, to me seem like the coolest kids on the block. Although I would be of no help to them in the kitchen as I can barely fry an egg (yes the daughter of a chef is completely incompetent with anything above the level of a toaster). I would fit right in because I am fairly certain we share mutual love and respect for home cooking. Their Singaporean soul is well tasted in their Southeast Asian food restaurant and Atwater food stand. I had never heard of the Malay Peninsula until discovery of these bros specialties and now I’m dying to check it out. And, to boot: What woman wouldn’t appreciate that the impetus for their venture was their mother’s recipes and resources? Cue “awe” s

Satay Brothers is worth a visit for the laksa and for people who can’t make that food odyssey to Singapore anytime soon. Note: they move indoors in the winter and their menu changes slightly according to the season.

Très satisfaite de ma première expérience dans cet incontournable du Marché Atwater. J’y retournerai cet été et, dès l’automne, je ferai un tour au restaurant rue Saint-Jacques. La cuisine Singapourienne, aussi savoureuse que son paysage.
Brothers' laksa had me falling head over heels with this spicy rice noodle soup. I slurped up every drop of the oh-so-very-lemak (or aromatic) chicken gravy with much relish. Ask for the triple spicy if you can handle the heat.

I truly enjoyed the savory/spicy house made peanut butter sauce, a really nice change from the generic sweet version

For all fans of the Satay Brothers from the Market, this is a must-visit to enjoy your usual summer favorites. For the rest of you, this is an extremely worthwhile visit – great food at a very reasonable cost. The Winnicki brothers and their mother have created a wonderfully homie restaurant experience. Alex, who was tending to the floor, was quite active – always interacting with his customers, starting up conversation while keeping service very snappy. The love shown to him and his family from all the patrons is a testament to the attention they put on everyone who comes through that door. I must also praise Alex from being quite understanding towards a situation with me that involved leaving money at a ATM prior to my arrival (unbeknownst to me when I came to pay) which is a problem at a cash only place. Quite the embarrassment for me but Alex was very trusting and was not concerned that I wouldn’t come back later on to pay (which I did 20 minutes later). For the way he handle my si

The Satay Brothers' food kiosk was a rare place that we actually loved from the first try. Based on tonight's dinner, we can confidently say that the brothers are still on the right track with their new establishment. This one is bound to be a permanent fixture in the burgeoning Saint-Henri neighborhood.

Yes, it took me three visits before I get to eat at Satay Brothers. First time, it was during spring before they moved back to the market, full house. Second time, everything was sold out. And I told myself, if my third visit can’t make it, I will totally give up! But yay, that didn’t happen! One thing I dislike about Satay Brothers is their attitude “I’m all that”. I felt like I should feel so fortunate to taste their food. If I walked away, they wouldn’t care at all. Anyways, service could be ignored if food was fantastically and absurdly delicious. But… The famous satay. We had beef. My comments? Taste like ordinary brochette with a layered glaze that was tasteless. The sauce that came with it did not add any bunch either. I was there clueless and wondering what is the line up all about? Another thing. I found it a bit pricey 6$ for 3 satay. Papaya salad. This one I loved! Very addictive because I have a soft spot for fresh dishes. And this salad is exactly that. I loved how they we

It’s actually a perfect place for a date. Go for a walk along the canal, sift through the mountains of fresh fruits and vegetables, stick your nose in some flowers and spend a few bucks to impress your lover-to-be with your exotic appetite for adventure. Don’t bring anyone with serious peanut allergies, as they literally cook with 1000lbs of peanuts per day. You don’t want to spend your first date in the ER, do you?

Satay Brothers specializes in Singaporean cuisine - a cuisine with over 50 national dishes representing the ethnic diversity of this country. With that many dishes, food is central to their culture. You can find a foretaste of these dishes here at Satay Brothers. During summertime, it has a food stand located at the Atwater market, which stays true to the concept of a hawker centre. During the cold seasons, they have a small unmarked restaurant located on rue Saint-Jacques. Satay, a staple among hawkers in Singapore, consists of cubed meats that is marinated, skewered and then grilled. This is served with a gingery peanut butter sauce and freshly cut cucumber. The pork skewers were tender and juicy with a perfectly sweetened glaze. The grilled flavour was quite pleasant and noticeable. The green papaya salad is a nice refreshing appetizer to start off the meal and to get your palate started - crisp, tangy, nice crunch from the toasted peanuts with the right amount of acidity to bring t

Will Travel For Food
I had heard a lot about the brothers last summer already but didn’t have the chance to make it to the Atwater market to taste their concoctions. When they made a comeback this summer, I headed there right away. I was blown away by how good the food is. Set up in the outdoor (covered) part of the Atwater market, the two brothers, Mat and Alex are dishing out amazing Singaporean street food with help and inspiration from their mother.

...the Satay Brothers has been garnering a lot of buzz in the Montreal food scene lately - and rightfully so. Serving South Asian food, the menu is short but sweet and filled with authentic Singaporean items.
