The food here is to die for!! It's one of the few places where everything on your plate is cooked from scratch and so you don't end up feeling like you've just indulged in junk food. Fresh, flavorful, colorful and delicious! The service was lovely and the ambience makes you feel like you're on vacation. Absolutely beautiful experience!

The food is just amazing. I have been there a lot of times and the food is juste like at home. I don't need to specify what is good or not, because to be honest, everything is great on their menu. They also have the best churros around Montreal

We were at another Mexican restaurant and they happen to run out of churros so the lady suggested El Rey Del taco as they had the same churros. So we called and asked them to keep some aside for us and since we were going here for the first time we thought of trying their chorizo tacos and so when I called I asked for just the chorizo tacos with the spicy sauce. When we picked the order and bought it home I realized that they gave us the chorizo taco meal which had guac, rice and some chopped onions with cilantro and lime so I called them to ask them if they gave me a wrong order since I wanted just the 4 chorizo tacos that the lady when I had called told me comes as one order. So this guy on the phone says no they don’t do just tacos for take away…apparently the rice and guac goes with the tacos!!! I confirmed this twice on the phone with him but I still need to check their menu because that’s just weird! What if I just wanna buy tacos?! And not pay for the guac rice and onions?! I’m sure it’s gotta be cheaper for just the tacos right???! Anyway the chorizo in the tacos was meh! So this was quite disappointing and we shall stick with our regular taco shop. The churros were amazing and yes they were the same as the other taco shop! This place seems to have ready to take mole sauces and a lot of other Mexican sauces & fresh chips too!

Tacos were good!!! The meat well seasoned!!! The servers seem overwhelmed though...they be running right and left! So u have to catch one on the fly. I would ,definitely, order for take- out! Authentic Mexican food

Good place if you are visiting in the Jean Talon market. Having tried multiple Mexican restaurants but this place had an altogether different atmosphere. The smell when you enter the restaurant is amazing. We ordered Tamales, as I had never tried this dish before. The taste was good but not upto the expectations as described earlier. We also ordered Tamarind juice and it was too good. The service can be better and staff can be more clean and welcoming, infact I saw one server pouring back the drank water by one customer in the jar which was not cool. Also, the server gave our juice to some other customer and they tasted the juice that's when the other customer realized that it's not what they ordered, server picked that juice and gave it to us instead of making a fresh one available. I wonder how they are maintaining the sanity in this place. In these times, one thing everyone wants is cleanliness which was highly lacking in this place, however the food is of good quality and taste due to which I have rated 4.

Underrated mexican place just outside the Jean Talon market. The nopales salad was great, so was the vegetarian platter. The corn tortillas were so soft and fresh, they even threw in an extra plate of the tortillas for free, when we requested another serving. The best horchata i've ever had, so milky and smooth!

Tourist trap to be avoided.
I had a sopa the tortilla, a concoction which would have made any Mexican shudder. The small portion was tiny, half of a small bowl, and grossly overpriced at $9.95.
I followed up with the saddest quesadilla ever, served thrown on a plate with zero acompaniment of any sort, not even plain salsa on the table. For $8 I expected much better.
There are several genuine taco places within 3-4 city blocks. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

Went there before and was impressed with the service, quality and serving sizes so went back recently. It wasnt very busy but the service was pretty much non existent. The portion of nachos was a joke. There was hairs in the food and when we complained we were 100% ignored. After the server dropped off the small hairy nachos we didnt even see him again. Very disappointed. Used to be a favorite restaurant but never going back again

What a scam! I noticed this morning that my bill was not 20% less. I went back this morning, the person at the cash called the manager who told me one had to ask for the rebate. To me, the employee from last night was knowingly ripping clients off. Puts a bad taste in your mouth.

Hoy fui a comer y ordene un menudo grande siempre habia pedido lo mismo pero hoy estuvo muy mal servido tenia como seis pedasitos de pansa estaba salado y sin sabor ademas la carne estaba como negra como que ya lo habian hervido mucho y le pusieron agua y sal le reclame a la sra. What a disappointment!
First off, the service was abysmal! About 30 min after we ordered, our server came to the table, asked us if we wanted anything else, and was about to give us our check. We told him that we never received our food. Without saying anything, he walked away and came back with an explanation that the kitchen mixed up our order. It seemed very clear that he just never placed the order and was blaming the kitchen. I understand that mistakes happen, but how he did not know that he didn't serve us food is beyond comprehension! After waiting another 30 min and seeing several tables who came in after us order, eat, order extra food mid-meal, and leave, we received our two orders of tacos. While we waited for our food, not once did the server ask if we wanted anything. The least he could have done was maybe bring us another basket of tortilla chips... nope, nothing!
In hindsight, we should have left when the server told us they mixed up our order. Instead we foolishly waited and I endured eating the most vile fish tacos. Chewy fish chunks stewed in some sort of onion, tomato sauce. Maybe I'm just used to classic fried-fish fish tacos that are crunchy and fresh. If that is what you are looking for, don't expect that here. These were just soggy and chewy and it was really hard for me to get past the texture of the fish. The rice tasted like it came from a store bought packet of Knorr rice and the "salad" was just pathetic. My husband ordered the Pastor tacos and said they were mediocre.
I was really excited to try this place because I have heard good things. Unless they make drastic changes to their food and service, however, I do not plan on returning there.
