Review Chez Maxim Oriental - Montreal

DR. ALVIN TUNG
Authentic regional Chinese food masterfully prepared and consistently delicious! Last time we ate here was 3 years ago before the pandemic and absolutely NOTHING has changed! We were welcomed by the owner and staff like we had just showed up last week! Always love dropping in for dinner whenever we are in town! The friendly staff will be more than happy to suggest their house specialties and freshest vegetables in season for your dining pleasure! Highlights of this last meal included the sauteed green beans with minced pork and the braised pork belly with preserved vegetables which were both scrumptious!

The food was decent but service was awful. We waited an hour for our food, didn't even give us water. The plates were dirty with stains, we had to wipe them off ourselves. The cashier was also obviously unhappy when we asked to split the bill 3 ways.

Didn’t actually get to sit down, but wanted to commend the restaurant owner or manager’s honesty/level of service - had stopped by with my family and boyfriend for some Tuesday morning dim sum. Upon arrival, the man on the shift (assume the manager or owner) greeted us and informed us right away that the dim sum chef was not in. We ultimately decided to leave in search for fresh dim sum and he graciously gave us a couple recommendations for other locations near by. Hope to be back to try their dim sum in the future!

We a party of two ordered 5 dishes and dim sums. The yuntun noodle came with two bugs inside besides tasting blander than fast noodle; the 腐竹卷is cold inside. The other three dishes are at best average. One of the male waiters like to rush us when it comes to ordering and serving, and the female waitress or the boss only becomes more apologetic after we've made our complaints clear. There are better options out there for whatever occasion.

Will never go back! One of our dishes was served only once we had finished eating, and only once it was mentioned. There was no bill provided. Only a total sum that seemed higher than what we ordered. Nothing written down. Very unprofessional and have actually never experienced that.

Total scam. Owner lady at the counter way overcharged us, and this after she said if you pay cash there was a 15percebt discount. Yeah, right! She then wouldn't even give us our change that was due. Wouldn't provide an itemized bill. She just took the hundred bucks and said "That's good, have nice day". So wish I had read some of the reviews of others that have had a similar experience. Bunch of shysters.

Was served raw shrimp dumpling. Then when I gave them a second chance to do it over, some of it was still raw. Never been a fan of grey shrimp. When they served the shrimp lasagna the waiter insisted that he stood by us as we ate to make sure it was cooked. How very uncomfortable! Best of all they insisted that the shrimp dumplings were cooked on both tries. When paying for the bill, they short changed us and the lady went on about the shrimp being cooked and condescendingly said we were kind and that god would be good to us. How rude! I am Asian and sorry I do know what cooked shrimp looks like. What we were able to eat was mediocre at best. Never going back. Should’ve turned around and left the moment we arrived to a roomy restaurant that was not busy at all. Everyone who worked there had a weird vibe, like we were an inconvenience. Just the worst experience in Montreal.

An unassuming restaurant with excellent dishes, well prepared. The jade tofu is amazing, if you like fresh tasting tofu dishes, and there are plenty of fresh vegetable dishes on the menu. Excellent!

Stumbled across Chez Maxim whilst taking a casual walk in Chinatown and I have no regrets. I ordered steamed shrimp dumpling which I devoured. I was craving duck so I ordered a half. The duck was tender, not too fatty and extremely tasty. The service was paramount ....I received ongoing attention from the staff during my entire time there. I was able to get access to wifi and even charge my cell phone. This restaurant is clean and tastefully designed with cool soft music in the background. I will definitely return and recommend this restaurant as a place of choice in Chinatown Montreal.

part of our order was a "siomai", and when I cut into it I noticed that the meat was raw, We called the attention of the mananger she said that they were cooked, she had brought the item back to the kitchen to have it cooked properly, when it came back, it was missing a piece, the wonton soup was bland we have to add soya sauce to enhance the flavour, the chicken feet was burnt......I would't recommend this place to anybody

Soup was served cold. Told the waiter it was cold and he replied, ‘Thank you!’ LOL. No glasses for water so we had to finish our meal and beg for water to be served.

My BF and I's to go Chinese restaurant in Chinatown! They all know us as we have been going since their opening and we have such a pleasent experience everytime we go! They accomodate you very well as I dont eat meat. They made the "chiken" corn soup without meat and cantonese chow mein meat less and more tofu. The owner is sweet given us beauty face masks! And they speak french!

After an initial wait for a table in a roomful of several empty ones and then a mix-up with our order, we had an absolutely delicious dinner. Will definitely go again (this was our second visit). Best Chinese food I have had this side of the Canada/US border!

We had Japanese Tofu. Medium spicy. General Tao, vegetable fried rice and lemon chicken and noodles. Fabulous

Dim sum wasn’t that good.

Currently the only resto in Chinatown we frequent. Always delighted by the staff, and mouthgasm'd by the food. In fact, I'm taking a group there tomorrow night. Highest recommendation!
