Review L'auberge Saint-gabriel - Montreal

Cammie Kannekens
A charming location and an attentive staff. We dined here in the last day the fire was blazing in the hearth and as the first ones in for the evening, were seated facing the cozy fire. Nice touch! We could also watch the cauliflower and various meats roasting on a nearby spit. So, of course we had to have cauliflower as an appetizer. With additions of pine nuts and glaze, it was a delight. We enjoyed the fresh bread served before the meal especially since there was a variety of types. We enjoyed our meals of lamb and duck and had a nice evening soaking up the atmosphere, good food and good drinks.
Clever Name
Had a wonderful atmosphere and great ambiance. Got a tasty Cornish hen with crisp fries on the side, best chicken I've ever had! Prepared very nicely with lovely seasoning. The staff were kind and accommodating, our waiter was very helpful and friendly. 10/10, would go again!

We asked our concierge for a “landmark” restaurant for our last night in the historic neighborhood of Montreal and selected Auberge Le St- Gabriel. The dining room takes you back in time with an open fireplace and beautiful wood beams on the ceiling and stone walls. Our waiter was excellent- knowledgeable on the menu and helpful, and wonderful service. The food was very enjoyable, I particularly enjoyed the bone marrow and the duck. Overall a wonderful end to our getaway in Montreal.

I experienced dining in the domes outside for the first time and it was amazing. The 3 service course was good but what truly made it exceptional is the unique setting in which you eat. There are heaters inside so it wasn't particularly cold. Highly recommend the experience

A fantastic evening. We reserved in the winter outdoor domes. The atmosphere and menu was well-curated and the service was attentive (vino flowing). A memorable time for sure and a unique Montréal/QC experience in winter.

Horrible service! We had a table booked at this restaurant for 7 people. When we arrived, it was just the 5 of us as one of the couples was running late due to a minor flight delay. When we got seated, we were approached by a woman who was dressed in a tiny glittery romper with an excessive amount of cleavage (I guess she works at the club doing bottle service at this place). Not the welcome we were expecting given this is a classy restaurant. She asked if the other two people were coming soon, and we politely told her that there was a minor flight delay but they are on their way here now. She did not like that response and began to argue with us in a rude manner stating that there was no way they would make it here in time if there was a flight delay. We once again reassured her that our friends are already downtown and will be here in another 20 minutes, and in the mean time we wanted to order some drinks. She continued to argue that we are not giving her truthful information and that those two extra chairs should be given away. Our friends finally arrived in about 20 minutes just as we told her. We had round of drinks and started asking her questions about the menu. She was not able to answer our questions about the menu as she says she doesn't work in this section (not sure why they would even send her over here in the first place then). We finally ordered our food which came with a few errors and things we did not ask for. The food was alright, nothing special. She did not return to ask us how our food is or if we needed anything else. Our water glasses were empty. Each time we waved someone over we felt like we were a bother to them. When it came time to pay the bill, the tip wasn't big enough for her liking and she rudely asked if there was something wrong with the service. We were forced to give a better tip even though the tip we gave was already generous. Will never return to this place.

One of the best fondue I ever tried. Drinks are also delicious and costumer service to match. Will definitely be coming back!

This is an absolutely beautiful restaurant with excellent service. The food was phenomenal and the price was surprisingly reasonable given its location. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a great experience within the Old Port area.

Affable, knowledgable staff takes very pleasant care of you in this one of a kind location. Food is creative, but elegantly simple, and the wine list covers every contingency. The space celebrates both modern Montreal's sophistication and the famous inn's centuries of history - which ooze out of the stone walls. Eating as a couple, we shared two starters (chunks of the cauliflower heads that had been roasting above rotisserie game hens) and a salmon tartar taken a subtle wasabi and mango direction. The provided bread board included half of a classic baguette and some delightfully chewy herb bread. We opted to share the for-two special prime rib. Couldn't have made a better choice. The cut, intact on the bone, was brought to the table for a quick introduction before it was carved up for serving. The meat had been aged for eight days and was simply oustanding. Neither of us had ever had a prime rib of that quality, and the aging process threaded the needle perfectly - aging another hour might have tipped the flavor towards a sour note. Instead, it was complex, tender, and the very definition of medium rare. Paired with a just-right Saint-Emilion, things couldn't have been better. The accompanying fresh greens in a vinaigrette played a cleansing role, and each of us opened a personal Staub mini-cocotte to find a concoction of whipped potatos and gruyere that took care of the savory end of things with a satisfying flourish. Overly fed, we bravely avoided the very tempting dessert menu, but none the less caved and ate the small sweets that stealthily found their way to the table. Be sure to take a moment to wander the restaurant and absorb the contemporary design elements that don't for a moment hide or diminish the ancient beams and stones that are the soul of L'Auberge Saint-Gabriel. We will gladly travel a few hundred miles to return to this gem.

Ate lunch at the Vieux Montreal location with a family member. We were looked after very well and enjoyed excellent service along with a meal experience that truly could not be beaten - the best Thai-inspired food I have had. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good, upper-end meal in the future.

Have brought groups there several times for corporate events; there for a wedding this past Saturday (June 16th). Staff is always courteous, the food consistently good and the ambience, with its attendant history and varied decor is impeccable. No complaints! Hope to return soon.

Were to start... we visited the location at the airport for breakfast (about 6:30am). -The hostess Knew that we spoke English but gave us a French menu. (Yes mistakes happen and I can understand that). -My cutlery was dirty and had to be replaced! (Baked on egg and gunk) -2 different tables were seated after us and received their meals and paid before we even got our food(they got the same as us). -Both of our orders were wrong and our food was cool/cold (the butter wasn't even melted on my toast). -No one ever came over to ask how the meal was, we were just handed a bill right after our food arrived (from being seated to getting our food took about half an hour)...Then easily another 15 minutes from when the waiter said he was being the machine to when he actually came back. Over all it was a very disappointing start to our vacation... The prices were not cheap ($34 Canadian for two) and did not match the quality of product/service. Hopefully this review will prompt some training for the staff.

This place is like home, from the beginning till the end and back again. Marc Boley with Caroline Lewis gave a soul to this venue by loving what they wanna share and moreover by loving their team which is composed of a melting pot of good souls. Moreover, they really have good taste in music ! Defintilty 6 stars in the DAF(Michelin). A place to discover again and again also when Nic Urli and his team take care the special events (Formula 1, Halloween, New Year Eve...)

This is the outlet in Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. Worst meal I had whilst in Quebec. I would have complained if I had not had to catch my flight. The food is re-heated (some of the sauce had burnt onto the plate). The Salmon was therefore overcooked, the veg were limp and the sauce was revoltion. I was physically sick. We paid our bill, gave no tip and left.

The service was outstanding, the food was excellent and the ambiance was awesome ! We were taken there by friends who live in Montreal and recommended it highly. Could not have been happier that we were there ! A must in the old Montreal area.

Lobster dinner event.... not great. I think the overly acrid taste in the bisk was because they burnt the flour and instead of starting over they served it. Also at club st James we could have multiple lobster with our choice of perparation. Here only 1 lobster and only 1 way. Also Service was slower than expected, and felt less friendly then what we are used too. Not a repeat. Prefer club st James.
