Review Arepera - Montreal

Jackie Clairmont-Mitchell
Their entire restaurant is dedicated gluten free, the food is all INCREDIBLE and we left with more to eat lager because it was just soo tasty. The staff were incredible and had a way for non-french speakers to order online with great ease! Our meals were perfect portions and delicious

We are from Ottawa and it’s so hard to find good Venezuelan food there. Every time we tried a place we always left disappointed. This place blew our minds because everything we order was made with good quality ingredients, was fresh and most importantly tasted amazing. We got the Pabellon De Carne Mechada arepas, plantains and chicken, beef and cheese empanadas. We recommend trying the arepa and the cheese empanadas, they were our favourite.

Very nice spot :) The food tasted delicious! The 6 pieces of yuca were fresh and crunchy. The empanadas were the star I think. They're a bit small, but perfect for appetizers (comes in 3). We had chicken, beef and cheese. All delicious. Even the plantain (about 6 slices) were good :) The other recommendation I have is the arepas (venezuelan sandwiches). It's about 6inches in diameter. A tortilla filled with goodness. If you take the pabellon, it's pretty filling (meat + black beans + plantain + fera cheese). They serve spicy salsa and avocado sauce with your meal. The plantain cheesecake was quite good too, but very small, although it's not really a cheesecake; more like a plantain pudding with a nice cream cheese frosting. Everything is quite affordable for the quantity.

Beef empanadas were very flavourful and were my favourite compared to the fish and chicken. The fried plantains also were a great addition to the meal, as they are sweet and balanced out the rest of the salty foods. Also, their green avocado sauce is awesome - definitely try it out! It isn’t very salty, and is slightly acidic. I ended up putting it on nearly everything to give a bit more brightness to the dishes. The arepas was good, but i needed to add a lot of the avocado sauce while eating it to give it more taste.

I love that this resto decided to make the menu 100% gluten free including beers and desserts! It's super acessible to vegetarian and vegan diets as well and their fried plantain is possibly the best I've had in Montreal. I also recommend the manioc fries (though they could use a dip!)

Amazing Venezuelan Food. On a 2 day trip to MTL, we went here first day because of the rating and second day because it was totally worth it. Their plantain, beans and chicken arepa along with the two sauces (my favorite was the green one), were delicious. Tried mango juice as well, which was ok. Staff was kind and helpful.
Cassia Attard
Awesome arepas for a good price. The fruit juices are amazing, plantain fries were also delish. Make sure to ask for the sauces for your arepas!
johanna acosta
The food is pretty good, i have to confess that the juice were to sweet but the arepa was amazing so just give them a try!

I initially loved this place. I initially went with a friend on a Tuesday night and our experience was great, the server was friendly, food was pretty good for less than 10$ & I who I believe was the owner was really nice and served us our dessert. I liked my experience so much that I bragged about it to my parents and brought them 2 weeks later on a Sunday afternoon. I completely regret that decision. This time I ordered a plate instead of an arepas and I must say the food was good except for the rice that was just ok. Again, for 14$ a big plate of food it’s still worth it. However, this time I ran into a problem when the place mat snagged my 150$ jacket that I’ve only worn for a few hours. When I mentioned it to the server, he said nothing and sent someone else to see us at our table. A woman came and asked what the problem was and I told her what had happened. Her response was really nonchalant and immediately asked us if we would be ordering anything else or if she can just give us the bill and she tried taking my plate away that I wasn’t finished with. When she left, another server came and asked us if we would be ordering and tried to take my plate... again. I don’t understand why we were essentially being asked to leave. We didn’t demand any special treatment or to see a manager or what not. Anyways, I definitely don’t think I’ll return to this restaurant, but should I decided to it’ll definitely be during the weekdays were the staff are friendly and courteous.

This is a very nice place to enjoy authentic Venezuelan food. The staff is very nice too, and the owner is always there ensuring a good service. I recommend it.

Love everything about this place! The food is delicious, the owner is friendly and genuine, the staff is friendly. The new location is spacious and colourful and the quirky music icons art looks great on the walls. So happy for their upgrade and it's closer to home for me.
Elizabeth Lecky-Lynch
Great ambiance and background music. The food was fresh, rich in taste, and extremely satisfying! Also their fruit punches are wonderful! The passion fruit punch was delicious! The prices were reasonable. The only downside was the wait time to get a table, but once seated, it's definitely worth it!😊

Fantastic food and agreed with my wife’s food sensitivities. No gluten, no soy, no dairy options were great. Quality food to.

First experience with venezualian food. The food was okay. I was not flabbergasted by the taste, but portion was generous et price is affordable. Decor is nice. Service was meh at first when we came in (we didnt feel welcomed) but got better at the end.

I did enjoy their home baked corn bread. I tried the guacacasa arepera. It was loaded with avocado. I wish they could add more flavour like may be including plantain or chipotle beans for extra kick. It gets a bit boring if you are just eating avo in bread all the way. Manager and staff were quite friendly.

A quick google search of restaurants near our Montreal rental lead us to Arepera du plateau. We have a few dietary needs and many adventurous palates so we gave it a go. We were not disappointed! All five of us were more than satisfied with the quality and quantity of food we were served. Everything was delicious!! Great food, excellent service, comfortable atmosphere, all around a win for us.

This little restaurant honestly surprised me in terms of their food. Not very noticable at first but it is there just look around. I ordered from the vegan section since I didn't feel like meat or cheese. The serving was impressive and my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend the juices!!!!
Catherine
A nice little restaurant with Latino background music. First time tried Venezuela food. I can tell that their food is quite good as it was fresh & delicious. Their home made avocado sauce is a plus! Guanabana juice is recommended too :)

I went to Arepera twice within the last week - once for a dinner with a friend and today for family brunch. Both times were fabulous. The arepas are delicious, fresh food. I was lucky and had life Venzueliam music both times. Love the brunch. Definitely a new "go-to" place for us

Everything about this restaurant was amazing from the food to the entertainment! The owner is so kind! The avocado sauce was so good I need the recipe. I've never had cassava chips as good as what this restaurant has to offer.
GT
The tortilla part of the arepa was delicious, but without the true Venezuelan cheese I can't give it 5 stars since I've had many in Florida. We got 3 arepas: chicken, pernil, and beef. It was enough for 2.5 people. It was a busy place at night so we got it to go and it took about 20 minutes. There's a parking in the surrounding neighborhood but I don't know what the parking policy is on a weekday or afternoon. A different type of food (Gluten-free too) in Montreal, definitely recommended.
Eating Out Montreal
I have about 4 groups of friends at the gym. Hey, what can I say? Peeps are attracted to my muscles, like, 'oh, she'll show me the way, she must be awesome!'. Or something. Haha. All jokes aside, I love my gym friends. And I gots to say, some have become my, wait for it, real life friends. Fo realz yo. Anyhoot, my girl (yes, you are MINE) Mar wanted me to review her fave Venezuelan restaurant. I warned her about my reviews that can go both ways and she still wanted me to go to Arepera. So I dsid. Along with her (wait, also MINE) home girls Al and Ash. Oh and Mar is from Venezuela so this was gonna be eeeeepic. I may be exaggerating. Epic is a big small word. It was gonna be dsamn awesome.

D&G wanted to have a meal during a football game. To make it healthy, G thought of this place.

According to G, the sandwiches taste good and filling. The sauces lift up the taste with lime and hot spices. For D, the pork is excellent but the shark tastes like caned tuna... D has a huge bias on caned fish... D immediately took the pork sandwich instead... Then, we had the chicken and beef with cheddar. Both of them tastes good.

As per the juice, they are very refreshing but sweeter than we thought.

What a lovely discovery! My coworker and I were wandering in the neighbourhood and we ended up trying out this spot for lunch. We took a seat near the door since it was a nice day out. Quick and friendly service, relaxing atmosphere combined with some latin music; what can I say I was ready to spend the whole afternoon there just chilling if I could. We ordered an entree of plantain to share and I ordered the chicken arepa (black beans, chicken, plantains, and feta cheese) with a sugar cane drink with lime juice. Delicious. All in all, very filling, yummy and satisfying! I will definitely come back.

Feels like I flew in to Caracas!!! Best Arepas outside of Venezuela. Small lil hole in the wall restaurant but the taste of a Michelin Star.
Nadia Signore
Loved this place! I had the chicken Arepa with plantain, beans and a side or yuca fries. Incredibly savoury! Line up at the door but quick service. The food was delicious and fresh, I highly recommend. Great menu for vegetarians.

Amazing food, amazing vibe/ atmosphere and everything is 100% gluten free and delicious!! 10/10 would recommend (updated review coming soon)

Whitey discovered a gluten free Venezuelan restaurant to avoid cross contamination. And because we are such good friends, a bunch including Sensei and Peaches came along to try it out. Latin American food is generally gluten free, since their tortillas are made of corn and their culture doesn’t use much white flour like Italians with their delicious pasta and pizza. But this place advertised that they were gluten free and they even had vegan and vegetarian options for those so inclined!
Coline T

Very yummy, and as a person who can't eat gluten, this place is like a dream. Everything is gluten free. It's all delicious and traditional stuff, made from corn. Their sandwiches are awesome, truly. It was fresh, spicy, savoury and with lots of counterpoints from fragrant, bitter and crisp greens. This is latin american cuisine at it's simple finest. Delicious, and a real treat for those who cannot eat gluten.

Love the food and the ambiance! Very passionate staff! A small and cozy restaurant with an interesting ambiance. Its always a pleasure to go there for a quick meal.

I loved this place. I'm from Venezuela living in a small town in Quebec and I was craving venezuelan food and this restaurant made me feel like I was home, not only the food is EXCELLENT but the staff is nice and fun! My canadian friends loved the food too and the prices are right for the quality of food you get.

I will definately visit them on my next trip to Montreal!

La sifrina!

This restaurant is freakin awesome. The music was amazing. The decoration was AeStHeTiCs and the food was so good. Like so good. I wish i could sleep there. AVOCADOS AND PLATANOS!!!
and the BEATLES

My husband and I went to Montreal for a Mini-Moon from New York it was about a 6-7 hour drive and we found this restaurant online and we feel in-love with!! We were in Monreal for about a week and we went to this restaurant about 3 times the food here is so amazing, the Arepa are the best!! we were hooked. We cant wait to go back, the staff was very friendly and helped us order our food and gave us some great recommendations. We cant wait to go back and bring some friends along!

Delicious Arepas! The Reina Pepiada is my favorite. The guacamole sauce they always serve with the arepas is one of the best things I have ever tasted. The Plantains con queso are amazing as appetizer.
Donna CG
I love this place. I've been going since it opened. Cute little sandwiches. Chorizo is my favourite. Take it to go to avoid the line up.
Milena
Everything here is amazing! The arepas, the nachos, and the toppings/sides are all really yummy. But the best part has to be the atmosphere in this fun little Latin restaurant, highly suggest you come in on a Saturday night.
Sean McKenzie-Mardelli
Ommmggggg amazing arepas, and the help yourself guacamole sauce (diluted guac) makes it just that much better! The cornmeal pouches they use are tantalizing and the way they season their meat/fish is top notch.

But don't get the plate because it's basically just the ingredients of an arepa scattered on a plate for much more money and it ruins the value.
CaptainPorkchop
VERY big portions, be careful what you order as it may include about 1/2 lb of meat. The sandwiches or areperas are VERRRy good but they could almost be shared

This was one of the first restaurants in Montreal that made me feel at home and I am not Venezuelan. Passionate about their food, genuinely friendly and accommodating makes eating at Arepera an over all pleasant experience!. We had what I would imagine to be a traditional meal explained to us by a Venezuelan and listened to Spanish spoken among the staff, I felt like I was a guest in a different country. A cozy restaurant with open windows, piles of avocados waiting to be made into yummy guacamole and seating that can be made to accommodate any number of people, Arepera is a worth while visit!

If you want to try a different, and very delicious authentic Spanish food, this truly a superb spot!
Arepas are not a common and easy to find place to eat them throughout Montreal. Look no more, this is the place to try them and enjoy them.
They have a wide variety for all palettes, including for those that are vegetarians. Arepas are also gluten-free.

Their arepeas are done to perfection! Tender, soft, warm and full of flavour depending what the filling you decide to try. I would suggest either the pulled pork or chicken.
You may think $7.00-9.00 for one arepa could be pricey. Not at all. Arepas in general are quite filling since it's mainly made with white corn flour, always by hand. Hence why these arepas are perfectly done! Along with a generous filling of your choice.
Do remember to ask for their guacamole sauce, it's fantastic!! Or if you like a little zing, they do bring you a sauce with a kick.

As the restaurant is quite small, go early or go late in the day. Their service was friendly and outstanding, our food arrived within ten minutes after ordering, while the restaurant was packed.

There's truly nothing negative about this spot, it's quaint, cute, very delicious and simply wonderful!

Great food and hospitality. On a recent vacation to Montreal, my family and I ventured over to Arepera for a gluten free and vegetarian lunch. It was the best meal we had during our trip. The Arepas (sandwiches) were delicious and the avocado and hot sauces added to the flavorful meal. We also ordered a few exotic juices, which were delicious and unique. The best part of the meal was the owner’s incredibly engaging personality and wonderful story – moving from Venezuela, starting a family in Montreal, and opening Arepera to share his love of Venezuelan food. After four years, he is still passionate about what he does. It was great to see. We can’t wait to go back.

The staff are nice and welcoming, like the vibe of the place and most importantly the food is fresh and tasty!

Fresh. Great neighborhood resto to enjoy hot and fresh home-made arepas. Generous portions and lots of choice of garniches for a small price. Professional and friendly service. Joyful latino music playing while someone in the kitchen sings along, adding to the happy vibe.

J'adore l'Arepera du Plateau!. Mmmmmm!!!

Allez-y.
Micheline

Plateau Gem. Delicious and Unique Venezuelan in a charming area of the Plateau. Areperas are always fresh, mouth-watering, and surprisingly filling. Watch out for the hot sauce- when they say hot, they mean it! Plate of plantains with cheese a must for the table.
Sussagoins
"Mini trip to Venezuela". If you want to have a sense of being in a real Venezuelan Restaurant you need to visit Arepera Du Plateau in Montreal. The food, the ambient, the music, the service... everything in that places says VENEZOLANOOOO!!!! 100% RECOMENDED!

Never going back (even though the food was delicious). Although Arepera is a colorful restaurant with delicious food and friendly wait staff, my mom found a TOOTH in her shredded shark meat arepa... We were flabbergasted... She could have been seriously injured by this inedible, hard, and sharp object in her meal! We have no idea how it got in her arepa, and were not given an explanation by the restaurant, either. The manager even called my mom "lucky" while we paid for the bill; she was never offered a new plate, nor given any form of compensation for what had happened. We left the restaurant slightly horrified by our experience. That being said, I am never going back...

South american comfort food. Dropped in by chance as I was headed for another place in the neighbourhood but the menu sounded appealing. So we tried the boar chorizo and stewed shark and plantains with sides of watercress salad. The boar was chewy, tasty and hearty. The shark was softer and spicy/mildly sweet. The salad had a great dressing on it! Also had the black bean soup - very nice and the watercress /avocado salad had to be one of the best salads I've eaten (great flavor and mixed textures). To say the least, we were stuffed and had to bring a doggie bag home.... The portions seem normal but the food is very filling. Anyhow, this is a cute place to go when you're really hungry! STAFF is friendly. Prices are so reasonable.
Colin Benjamin
Great spot. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a bite in the neighbourhood. The portions aren't massive but it's well priced. The produce is fresh, the sauces are original and very good (salad dressing is phenomenal), and all areperas that we tried were fantastic.
The place is wonderful in the winter, the atmosphere is cozy, friendly and colourful.
Mouthnoise
Cheap and delicious. Unusual flavours; friendly service. My only criticism is that often the music is cranked up way too loud, and with people shouting over it.... ai ai ai!
EH Halifax
Food was so delicious!!! The chicken was very tender and flavourful, plantains were soft and yummy, the avocado sauce is delicious! Staff were very friendly!

Terrible experience at Arepera. I was a regular at this restaurant until last winter, when I was very rudely served by one of the owners (to my surprise he was the owner)!. The episode took place during a very cold winter day in Montreal, -20C. I was visiting the restaurant with my 9 year old daughter and a friend who was curious about trying Venezuelan food. When we arrived the only table available was for 5 persons. We were immediately told there was no availability and that we would have to wait OUTSIDE at -20C, after walking for 15 mins, freezing, to get to this place. I asked the person if we could please wait sitting at the 5-person table until a smaller one became available. Although I KNEW there was no reservation policy at this place (cause I had tried reserving before and was told there was none), the person (who happened to be very rude, and ended up being one of the owners), told me the 5-person table was "reserved". Incredible! We had some friends eating at the restaurant at the time. Their table was too small to accommodate us, so we left. We did find an excellent Venezuelan restaurant that day on St Laurent street/corner Mont Royal, called Bocadillo. The service there was excellent and the food delicious.
I should add that, those friends that were at the Arepera restaurant told me later that the 5-person table remained empty for at least 30 minutes after we were told we could not wait there, and that, by that time, a table that could have accommodated the 3 of us had become available.
Since that episode I have not returned and have ensured I let everyone around me know how unprofessional the owner at the Arepera restaurant is.
They certainly have lost a client, and many more.
Carole

-----17 Oct, 2013-----

Gracias!

This place is amazing! The pabellon shredded beef is very tasty. you get so much food for the price. Definately going back!

Amazing GF & Venezuelan. Not only was this restaurant & menu designed with Celiacs in mind, the immense GF options and delicious food will keep you coming back for more. If you can save room in your stomach after finishing a meal, check out their "plantain cheesecake"--a house-created dessert that's divine.
Lnak
Worth a visit. The food is very good and well priced, and you can bring people of a variety of diet restrictions here (they have meat, vegetarian and vegan options, and possibly even gluten free/lactose free).
I've been at least three times, and the food is consistently good. Once they forgot our order, but were apologetic (I think the waiter was new) and gave us our meal for free (which I would say more than made up for our 40 min wait).
Silvia Barrett
Too much rice and beans everywhere. It was my first experience in a Venezuelan restaurant. It's a shame they don't have more options in the menu, but I don't know, maybe the Venezuelan food it's just like that. The arepa was ok, I couldn't finish it because it's like a salty bread. The dessert that I tried "3 leches" was too small, but it was the best of my experience in this restaurant.
One more thing: The place is small and you can't make a reservation in advance. We went in a rainy day and had to wait outside.
Mylie
My first Venezualan restaurant. Good boar chorizo arepa. Try the Pabellon plate too, confort food at its best! I loved the plantain there... I've also tried the guanabana juice, not too sweet and very floral. You must eat everything with the two sauces available. :)

Update 2017! :)
Susanna Allen
Absolutely awesome. Recommend the sandwich with the shredded beef, avocado and cheese.
Brandon Kober
Perfect!. Inexpensive, nice portions, nice atmosphere.
Cannot wait to go back!
Arianna
Not worth the money. The food is ok but it's not worth the money for something that is more a fast food restaurant than anything else.
The owner is not a very nice guy, if you're lucky he won't run your table.
Lee
Food is great l had the sardines fresh tasty outstanding.
Partner had chicken churizo also incredibly tasty
Priscilla
You are missing "the touch". You could be better.
Yuri Kuczer
You have to wait a little, but the food is well worth it 100% authentic, amazing homemade sauces
Samantha Velandia Prieto
Food is great, a little to greasy. However the service is always horrible, they close at 8 pm everyday which is very disappointing for a restaurant in the plateau. It seems like they are always in a hurry and it gets worst half an hour before they close. I've seen tourists standing outside, reading their menus and waiting for their food simply because the owner/waitres do not want you to sit into a table after 7:30 pm which is really bad service!!!
I enjoy the food but I always think about going twice only because of the service!!
MelanieG.
JulienF
Delicious, just like in Venezuela !. - Delicious venezuelian food (Arepas, Pabellón, ....)
- Tropical juices
- Cheap and good portions
- Vegan & gluten free
- Located on the heart of Le Plateau, on Duluth street, corner De Bullion

Mauvais service. Bad service. Decent prices. Bons prix. Bouffe moyen. Food ok.
Viviane

The food is not too bad. I dont like the fact that they only have one sauce for the arepas and for the salads.... Garlic everywhere is too much. The shredded beef arepa is laking flavor and I didn't like the fact that my juice was all ice and a little bit of juice. Personally I've had better of this kind of food in Montreal. During winter they should intall double doors also.

DELICIOUS SOUTH AMERICAN. Mouthwatering venezuelan food, I now understand why the place is always full. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff and very low prices. Will come back more than once that's for sure.
Home baked corn bread filled with topings of choice, we were two vegetarians and it took us 10 minutes to pick from the veg options; there are so many and they all sound fantastic. I had the beans and plantains which was exquisite and will be having the grilled vegetables and feta next time ! Fresh juices and delicious appetizers. yum yum yum

Best Arepa ever!!!.

As aVenezuelan I must say that this is the closest I've been to home made food. It is truly DELICIOUS! I always want to go back for more of their tasty/non pricey pieces of Heaven. Plantains are to die for. Also, the Owner is te sweetest guy. Oh! And if you go and there is a wait line (it's a small place) it is really really really worth it. Enjoy!!

Amazing. We stumbled on a listing for this restaurant while looking for a Mexican restaurant...so glad we did!! When we were waiting for a table, staff offered us fresh juice samples and told us about the style of cuisine. The service in general was friendly and efficient and the relaxed atmosphere really welcoming. The food was super tastey, freshly made, and really affordable...soft corn dough pockets stuffed with delicious saucy meat and veggies. We will absolutely go back!

Although the menu at Arepera is somewhat limited (especially if you are vegetarian), the food is inexpensive and satisfying -- and fresh! The menu consists mainly of arepas as main courses. They are simple grilled sandwiches that resemble pita wraps but are made with white cornmeal (so I guess), and the fillings are various. I had the fried plantain and black bean filling, and it was very tasty, especially with the spicy sauce (some sort of chili in a mayonnaise) that you can add. The bread is thick and warm, crunchy on the outside and soft but firm inside. The fillings are generous but not impossible to contain when handling the arepas. My friends had shredded shark and pulled pork (not both) in theirs and were happy. A range of salads and rice dishes are available, too, but the arepas are the focus. The service is friendly, too, and the décor bright and cheerful. The resto is not licensed, but go west to Réservoir for a drink before or after or both.

Regrettable service / Mauvaise service. I have experienced one of those situations that unfortunately proves we Venezuelan (I am from Venezuela) are really far away from the rest of other cultures concerning customer service. We received one of the worst services in our whole life, not from the waiters and waitress, but incredibly from the very owner. If you're looking for a good service, take this place off your list.

Fantastic arepas and pabellon criollo. As a Venezuelan expatriate, the food was exactly like I remember. Strongly recommended. Buen trabajo, continuen!

As venezuelan I recommend this place. Arepas are excellent, I'd say even surpass some renowned places in Caracas (venezuela's capital). Service is good, they do a good job explaining the menu very unfamiliar for many. I recommend the arepa "Pabellón" (shredded/pulled meat, sweet plantains, blackbeans and cheese), "Reina Pepiada (chicken and avocado) and the "tajadas" entree (sweet plantain and cheese). The tradicional "bienmesabe" dessert is awesome, you can feel the cocoa in the cake. Also try the passion fruit or soursop juices. Been there with a group of quebecois friends and they loved it too.

Finally a really good Venezuelan restaurant in Montreal. So, I'm Venezuelan. We're a small community around here - small enough that there are really only three Venezuelan restaurants in town: this one, Bocadillo on St. Laurant off des Pins, and 'Tabroso on St. Hubert north of Jean Talon. (There's also Tropicana on Jean Talon Est in St. Leonard, but that's more a grocery store.)

Arepera is easily the best of the bunch. The arepas (the corn-based "breadish" staple of Venezuelan cooking) they serve are real. Fresh made, steamy with a lovely hard crust. I think they use an actual budare (hotplate) to make them. Basically, they're just like you find at a good Arepa place in Caracas. It's so hard to make them just right at home, but here they're just right.

There are a lot of choices for fillings. All the classics are here - cheese, shredded beef, beans, roast pork, pork skin, shredded chicken, and the inevitable chicken-avocado-mayo classic (Reina Pepiada). They also have some kind of Boar Ham thing that's...well, an invention. We tried different kinds and they were all really great.

We also tried the Pabellón - the iconic Venezuelan national dish of shredded beef, black beans, rice and fried plantains. It really was exceptionally well made. The beef had a bit more vegetables than I'm used to, but it was lovely, moist-but-not-greasy, and very very tasty. The Beans were exceptionally well made and the plantains sweet and sticky and greasy and just right. Only the rice was a little bit of a false note: flavorful, but maybe not the parboiled type I remember from home.

Add to all this friendly service in Spanish, English or French, fair prices and a nice Plateau atmosphere and I was totally in love with Arepera. I'll be going back often, as I suspect will many, many nostalgia-struck members of the small-but-growing Venezuelan community in Montreal.

There's a full complement of fillings.

Awesome place! Food was excellent and service was friendly. Definately a repeat.

...apparently we should have ordered plantains, given that they lasted all of 30 seconds on the plate. Perfect comfort food for a cold winter’s day.

The moment I walked into this restaurant, I was sure that I was in Venezuela (not that I’ve ever been there, but you get my drift).

A Venezuelan restaurant that serves piping hot arepas, suitable for people with dietary restrictions. If you are open for something new, go ahead and order the tamarind juice. It has a sweet, sour and earthy flavour.

...i may not be venezuelan and i have never been to venezuela, but i quite enjoyed the food at arepera du plateau. if my ancestry causes you to question my opinion, then so be it. what’s important is that i know what my taste buds like and they liked what was served here.

Montreal Eats Featured below are some of our Montreal eats, excluding our three dinners at Garde Manger, Les 400 Coups (BEST MEAL OF THE TRIP) and Joe Beef. I will apologize in advance for the lack of photos in the actual restaurants or of missing food items, either in my excitement, laziness, my distracting bellyache or for consideration of other diners (due to lighting issues, my persistent flash could not have always been welcome). I hope you enjoy what I have here and stay tuned for my dinner posts coming soon! 1. Schwartz's Montreal Deli (3895 Boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montreal ) Our very first stop in Montreal, we had to get our hands on some smoked meat. As my boyfriend and I are huge fans of Katz's Deli in NYC, it only made sense to go straight to this Montreal institution. We arrived late afternoon, so lucky for us we did not have to wait in any lineup (which I hear is often very long). We ordered two MEDIUM FAT sandwiches (in hindsight, I should have probably ordered FAT) but

...textures and flavors in this arepa was off the charts. The hard crusty bite to the corn-flour bun, to the juicy tender beef was set off by the sourness of the cheese and the sweetness of the plantains, then doused in hot sauce; this arepa is serious.

Arepera du Plateau bakes these delicious breads and fills them with fresh ingredients ranging from boar chorizo, onions and peppers to minced stewed shark in tomato sauce .
