Review L'atelier De Joel Robuchon - Montreal - Montreal

Carine Cheng
We had a 8 services meal and a 7 service meal. Our waitresses Dominique and Bianca were very nice and professional. Watching the staffs working in the kitchen was a great experience. Food came out in perfect timing. They even gave me a surprise which I really appreciate. Food taste was ok.

I'm suprised this place doesn't have more reviews considering how great it is (and the fact that it's been open for two years now). You do have to know where it is, since the location in the cabaret section of the casino isn't the most obvious. The setting is romantic, cozy and trendy, the service attentive, but discreet and the food is phenomenal. We had one of the tasting menus (they offer four different kinds : 7 services, 9 services, a vegetarian option and a creative menu that changes more often). We chose the 9 services because we wanted to have a good overview of what they offer. They also have a tapas style menu (they recommend 3-5 plates per person), as well as a more traditionnal appetizer and entree menu. If you decide on one of the tasting menus, we noticed that they seem to be very accomodating with any food restrictions so no need to worry if you're gluten free, lactose intolerant, etc. The 9 service menu includes a few Joel Robuchon classic dishes such as the egg and the artichoke which were both very well done. The waiters and sommelier were very knowledgeable on both the history of the dishes as well as the wines they serve. They do not rush you and respect your pace which was a nice change from restaurants where you feel kind of like you're being ushered out. The free indoor parking is a nice bonus too since it's within the casino. Overall, this place is top notch and should be more well-known in my opinion. Will definitely come back in the future.

Been there twice. The staffs are attentive, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is great and the restaurant is very nice. I love how each plate is well decorated and clean. Definitely worth every penny. 😍

Amazing! The food and the service were great! The bread are made in house and they are great! Everything was perfect from the beggining until the end. It was also simple to get a reservation and to get to the restaurant (which is kind of nice for tourist like us!)

This is a high end French restaurant inside the casino de Montreal. It's not the easiest place to find on your first visit but it's a great place for a birthday or anniversary. It's very expensive but you get what you pay for with these types of restaurants

As a foodie, this was a wonderful experience. It is costly but I had dishes I had never had before. My palette was transported. The dishes were also visually stunning. A couple dishes had gold and obviously it doesn't ad any flavour to the dish but me and my husband were amused at the idea of eating gold. It was an experience. It's not something we could afford often but it's a great way to celebrate a special occasion.

One of a kind gastronomic experience, they deserve to continue under the name of the late legendary chef, expensive but well worth it.

What an incredible dining experience! The service was perfect, the wine was divine, and the food was downright sublime. This is the third of Joël Robuchon's restaurants that we've been to, and we have never been disappointed, but I'd have to say that we may like Montreal's L'Atelier even better than the one in Paris. It was that damn good. If we are fortunate enough to return to Montreal, L'Atelier will be on the top of our must-do list.

Before I start I want to mention that my issues were mostly with the venue, hence the 3* for the entire experience, the food itself I would rate 4 to 4.5* Entering the restaurant the hostess asked us to sit in the waiting area while our table was ready. The waiting area is basically some chairs next to other people also waiting for their table, there is no staff to take drink orders, and there is nothing look at (no view, no art). Already the experience was a little awkward, and it is a huge contrast if I compare, for example, with La Pergola in Rome where I was welcomed to the balcony to admire the city with complimentary champagne and roasted macadamia nuts while waiting for my table. We were told our table was ready, and proceeded towards it, only to find out that we were sitting at the bar. The restaurant has very few tables, and even with a reservation most sit at the bar. To me going to a fine-dining restaurant is more than just the food, the experience also includes the decor, the service, the staff, the view, etc. To me the Atelier concept feels like going to a happy hour after work at the Keg, sitting at the bar is not the most comfortable, there is no intimacy, and you're pretty much hearing the life stories of the people on your left and right. Another disappointment with the venue is the view. I thought l'Atelier would reuse the space the Nuance restaurant occupied previously, it was on top of the casino with a gorgeous view of Montreal. Instead l'Atelier is at the bottom with a very sad view of an empty field as well as Route 132 on the south shore. At least since we are sitting at the bar, we had our backs to it... On a side note this is more of my personal opinion, some people will enjoy the casual setting, sitting at the bar, mingling with your neighbors, speaking with the staff, etc. I love that too on other occasions like having drinks after work, however not when spending closer to $1,000 in a restaurant named after the most Michelin starred chef in the world. I prefer elegant venues like La Pergola in Rome or Maison Boulud in Montreal with tables, white table cloths, and impeccable service. Or even Lemeac on Laurier. However one thing where the venue redeems itself greatly is the quality of the plates and silverware. The Bernardeau plates and the Cristofle silverware look fabulous, and they remind you that you are in a fine-dining restaurant. Now for the food I had the seasonal tasting menu, and I really enjoyed the experience. Most dishes were very well balanced, visually the plates looked great, and Eric Gonzalez did a great job. The veal served with the famous Joel Robuchon purée is absolutely amazing, you would want to order it over and over again. The 2 desserts at the end were also fantastic, and ended the evening on a great note. There's only one dish I didn't care for much, and surprisingly it was the scallop. The plate came with a single scallop, too much endives, and a sauce that does very little to balance them, so you end up chewing bitterness, and forgetting you even had a scallop on the plate. To summarize a very good culinary experience, but unfortunately the overall experience for me is just lacking for that price range. It felt like going to the Keg with of course far better food, and someone explaining each dish.

Incredible experience! The concept, the deco, the food, drink, everything was perfect! My greatest compliments to your whole team, especially our hostess Olivia and server Emanuel, you girls made our night one to remember, and of course to your amazing chefs.

I reserved her for my husband's birthday, and was very disappointed to be seated in a corner next to a vent. I explained the situation, and was told that they could not move us, and I was brought a scar to deal with the fact that it was so cold under the vent. Not only were our seats cold, but in the corner we had no view of the kitchen which is one of the draws of the experience. The food was good, and the staff was pleasant and accommodating, but for the price (the final bill was over 700$ for two people), I would have expected a better experience. I think I will continue going to Europea and L'epicier, where the food is just as good, if not better and the service is impeccable.

The best restaurant in Montreal, hands down! The attention to detail, the flavours, the presentation, the service were all at a level of perfection that I have never experienced. Highly recommended for special occasions! Foodies will not be disappointed!!

The presentation here is an art. The food is delicious, beautifully designed and very creative. The bread basket again is super good , and not to mentioned about their food . No way to describe the food with their quality of ingredients and variety of spices and seasoning.

I've eaten in a lot of restaurants, this one is definitely in my top 3
