Review Swiss Chalet - Mississauga

Joanna Beech
I requested well done on the grill. When the chicken was served it had no grill lines but the server said it was well done and on the grill. I started to eat it and it was pink inside. I told the server and she kindly told me she would replace it. When the new order came out I was speechless. The server never once came back to ask if everything was okay. She didn’t even give me eye contact. She offered my friend a refill and even a take out container. When I asked for the store number she told me it was on the receipt. If there was 0 star option, it would be a definite 0.

Typical Swiss Chalet. The food was exactly as expected to the corporate standard. The server was attentive and friendly. Neither the food or ambiance will WOW anyone, but it was comforting to know that the quality was what I expected. Definitely not disappointed and will return when I happen to be in the area. Four stars is my way or saying "excellent". I reserve five star for unexpected fabulously fantastic.

I was happy to try their spicy chicken sandwich. It's actually on par if not as good as something like Popeyes. The spice sits just right and with the side of fries it just adds to the experience. Delivery is always quick with Swiss chalet and we appreciate it. Our delivery came within 15 minutes and the driver still apologized which wasn't needed. If you were a big chicken sandwich lover and haven't tried to Swiss chalet one yet I suggest trying it because it's really good.

Dining available. Nothing beats Swiss chalet, the chicken was cooked perfectly and juicy. Fries were also done well, not too crispy and not undercooked. My bun was a littler too hard for my liking. This was also one of the only Swiss Chalet I've been too that offered water with a wedge if lemon to wash your hands. It was really awesome that they still did that. Social distancing measures are in effect. You enter through the front doors but leave through the side door. Great dining experience.

This location is one that we have been frequenting for decades (we followed the restarurant when it moved from a strip plaza at the same intersection). We attended on Friday April 22nd for an anniversary dinner for my parents and the manager asked young hostess to inform us that we could not bring in the cake that I was carrying in my hands due to "covid". This was shocking, especially since we had just celebrated a birthday party on February 15th with our own birthday cake. I brought my cake back to my vehicle and then proceeded to call Head Office, who were completely useless and told me that I needed to speak to the restaurant owner. I asked the manager for the owner's name and contact information and was given her business card only to find out a few minutes later that the owner was there at the restaurant. I eventually spoke to her and explained how incredibly disappointed I was. I also told her that the manager of this location is rude, unprofessional and has absolutely zero skills to be working in the service industry. The manager told me that I was in fact "allowed" to bring in my cake, as long as I kept it at my table, rather than in their fridge. Clearly the information that the manager gave us was incorrect and I feel that my family was being "picked on" and quite frankly, descriminated against. If it hadn't been my parents' anniversary, we would have left and gone to another restaurant. However, our party of 13 people stayed and paid over $200 for our meals, even after being mistreated. And for the record, we called other Swiss Chalet locations and they have no problem with patrons brining a cake AND keeping it in their fridge as well. I suppose after 25+ years, we will no longer be frequenting this Swiss Chalet location.

Epic Fail on customer experience. Placed a pickup order and when we arrive they tell us half the order items are not available. We compromise and take what is available and then they forget to pack 2 side salads. You guys are definitely going out of business with this attitude

If there was an option for 0 starts I would go for that. The food was fine but the waitress was beyond rude and unprofessional l. When she was taking the order she did her best to show how bored she was listening to me. Then she brought the drinks. One glass of lemonade was covered in syrop/jam and she did not even care. When I wiped it off and asked her to take the napkins she just stared at me and left. I saw that with other visitors she was nice, but for some reason she only gave me that attitude. When it was time to pay I obviously was not planning to le leave any tips for her but by accident i clicked the wrong option and the machine left 0.03 cents as a tip. And she STARTED YELLING ON ME THAT I SHOULD’VE LEFT MORE TIPS FOR HER. Like what?! It seemed like a an obvious racism towards me and my family as I’m new to canada(I’m Ukrainian) and she obviously treated other customers way nicer. It was my very first visit to a restaurant/cafe and Canada and it was a disaster. I can’t believe I was treated this way.

We were very disappointed with a very long wait for food preparation as we watched other people order after us & leave with their orders before us. I was on my 45-minute trip back home from Toronto & waited more than 45 minutes for my order to be completed. To add insult to injury, our failing patience was met with order inaccuracies as we unpacked our Father's Day Dinner.

I had an early lunch today at Swiss Chalet.

I ordered what I usually order at Swiss Chalet ... a half chicken dinner with corn. It's Weight Watcher friendly (just seven points!). It was really good. The corn was obviously frozen but hadn't been sitting around ... it was hot and crispy. The chicken was hot and tender. The roll was warm and the sauce was hot and had a tasty.

Arlene was my server. She was really friendly and attentive.

So I've been here about once to twice a month for about 6 months now out of convenience as we are in the area doing some Friday/Saturday shopping. On more than one occasion the fries were disgusting burnt as if they were fried in old oil in a fryer that definitely need to be cleaned and changed. The chicken was dry yet pink inside, did complain manager was notified came to our table stating oh that's how the fries are... Really I said I then showed her an instagram pic I posted from another location just days earlier with golden fresh fries not left over crumb fries burnt and dry brownish in color as the ones being served at this location, manager said okay they will change the oil you will have to wait... 20min later my fries were golden yellow perfect. I told the manager I needed to tell you that your oil needed to be changed? She had nothing to say. To be honest I was disgusted after that meal thinking what other corners are they cutting to serve their customers food? Chicken not fresh? Left out? Reheated? Do your self a favor go somewhere else. Did I mention food arrived and we had no cutlery had to wait till waiter came back to our table...

FOOD:
We had come here on a Monday afternoon at around 3:00 pm. I had settled on Perogies ($6.99) to start, and the Quarter Crispy Chicken Meal ($12.99), which included White Cheddar Mac N’ Cheese, Cheddar And Jalapeno Mashed Potatoes, Coleslaw, and a White Bun. My husband had settled on the Quarter Crispy Chicken Meal ($12.99) as well, which included Garden Salad With Italian Dressing, Cheddar And Jalapeno Mashed Potatoes, Coleslaw, and a White Bun.

I was very impressed with how delicious the Perogies tasted; they came out very crispy and hot (temperature-wise), with just the perfect amount of spice. Also, when I bit into them, they were not oozing with potatoes, it had just the right amount of potatoes. The cream that it came with was also delicious, not too spicy and just the right consistency for the perogies. I didn’t eat all of them as I wanted to save room for my main dish therefore, our server (Rochelle) gave me a container, and also gave me some extra dipping cream for them when I ate them at home.

When the Quarter Crispy Chicken Meals arrived, I was in heaven! I absolutely LOVED the White Cheddar Mac N’ Cheese, it was very delicious, with bread crumbs sprinkled on top, and a lovely creamy sauce that tasted divine. The only thing was that it was such a small portion that I was only able to eat two big spoons of it before it was finished. I also really loved the Cheddar And Jalapeno Mashed Potatoes, which were also to die for! However once again, it was only a very small portion, which made me hungry for more. The Coleslaw was also a small portion, but that was okay as I had only wanted a little bit on the side.

In terms of the Crispy Chicken, I was very glad I had placed that order as it was the most DELICIOUS chicken that I have ever had at any Swiss Chalet location! I received a leg, and a breast, which was dipped and fried, tasting absolutely amazing. I was also happy to receive the Chalet Sauce on the side, in which I dipped the chicken into. Overall, the food that I had received was very well-cooked, tasting fresh and delicious, every single bite. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the portion sizes for the two-sides were very small, and I would have liked for them to be a bit bigger.

ATMOSPHERE:
We were impressed with how inviting and clean this location was. We also really loved the beautiful decor on the walls, the soft benches, and the large TV on the wall broadcasting the local news. I really enjoyed how there were also very large booths to accommodate large parties. I felt very comfortable at this location, it seemed as though they had put a lot of hard work into making it look very appeasing to the eye.

SERVICE:
When we had walked-into the restaurant, we were greeted by a kind middle-aged woman who showed us to our table. We were then greeted by our server, Rochelle, who was one of the nicest servers I’ve ever had at any Swiss Chalet location. As soon as we sat down, she came over to ask us for our drink order (we had ordered water), and if we had any questions about the menu items. She also came over and asked us how we were enjoying our meal as we were eating. She made us feel very comfortable and relaxed during our stay, well-done Rochelle, would love to have you as our server again in the future!

COST:
1 Perogie Order: $6.99 + 2 Quarter Crispy Chicken Meals (Included Two Sides, Coleslaw, And A Bun For Each Meal): $12.99/One -- $25.98/Two = $32.97 + Taxes = $37.26 (Taxes Included)

WOULD YOU RETURN?
Absolutely! Everything about this location impressed me, except for the small sizes of the side-orders, which was something minor compared to all of the amazing things we had experienced.

Going to Swiss Chalet is my tradition every year for the Thanksgiving special. The piece of chicken is fairly small but you get a slice of pie I asked for the pecan to go. Our server was very slow and had a poor attitude though. For your money this is the most decent you'll get for two people.

I find Swiss Chalet always pretty consistent no matter what location you go to. I come to this location quite often and it's always quick and satisfying. I love their salads!.

On my last visit I got the Honey garlic special and it never came with garlic bread.. and I got the coconut cream pie and it was a bit disappointing and stale tasting. Service was also a bit off too... after we got our bill it took forever for our waitress to come and ring us out. So long that we just got up and went to pay at the front. They almost never ask for your scene card either to get you your points. Remember to give it to your waitress/waiter at the end of your meal if you have one.

I have tried many items on their list, my go to food item is the chicken wrap with a soup. I don't mind their fries, I dont like the poutine all that much though but I love their chicken soup.

Delivery. Got food delivered to me.. I noticed the portions were sooo tiny, tinier than other locations... the mashed potatoes weren't as delicious as they usually are and the bread tasted and looked stale- it was a really really pale white... on a positive note however the fries were AMAZINGGGG... so good I ate them without ketchup and the coleslaw was good too... that is all. Update: came here for takeout and again got sides of mashed, coleslaw and bread... Again I think that the portions were small compared to other places for the mash/coleslaw sides but they were both amazing in flavor and the bread was soft, hot and fresh as well. Then I tried the veggie burger with fries and I was pretty satisfied with everything. At one point there was a little too much patty for bun which is one of my pet peeves (when patty is bigger than bun) but I was happy that they gave me all of the veggies for the burger separate- and they were good and fresh as well. Pretty good service as well!
Summertime
Used to be good but not anymore. I wonder if this location has a new management team because it has really deteriorated. We always went to this location even though there were two other Swiss Chalets closer to us. For years we found this location to be excellent - great staff, great meals that were of good quality and good portion sizes.

Our visit this past week was extremely disappointing. The portion of salad was so small. It was only about 1/3 the salad portion we have received for years at this location. It was so small that my young child wouldn't even find it enough. Considering the 1/4 chicken dinner with white meat is $10.49 and all you get is a piece of chicken and a tiny salad and tiny roll, Swiss Chalet is very poor value compared to other family restaurants.

The receipt asks diners to complete a survey about their experience. In addition to the usual "ticky boxes", there is a place to type in comments and indicate if you'd like a staff member to call you about your experience. I completed all of that but 3 days later have yet to receive a call from Swiss Chalet. Very disappointing.

This "cheaping out" by Swiss Chalet has really ruined our impression of the place. We were very regular diners there but won't be going back if the salad portion is going to be so small.
