Review Symposium Cafe Restaurant & Lounge - Mississauga

Sunday around noon we caught the tail end of the morning rush and wait perhaps 5 min. for a party of 2. I ordered the California Benedict. This version of a Benedict substitutes the ham for bacon, which I was in the mood for. It also came with avocado. It was pretty decent, but I prefer to have the ham instead of the bacon. The home fries were good as usual.

This store they working hard to improve they are one of the best sunset grill in Ontario, When i compare now and before, there some good changes happened 1- they fix the “hod” or ventilation system and now when you go inside the restaurant you will not see any smoke over the kitchen 2- fast service and clean the table right away 3- short time for waiting to find a table 4- the quality of the food better than before Great job guys, you deserve 5 stars and more The workers there same like before, they are very friendly and high level of hospitality

Really nice spot to have some breakfast. They've got a wide variety for you and it's always fresh. Try an omelette or a Benedict. Their pancakes are also quite fluffy! Service is excellent here.

Great service, great portion, good price. We love the atmosphere and the free lollipops!

We went there for breakfast today and the food was delicious, specially the hot potato. I’d recommend this place.

Mmmm there is no wifi at this location for guests...I feel like restaurants and breakfast places pretty much all have wifi so when one doesn't it sticks out like sore thumb...... if I was looking for a place to take my time eating and do some things on my phone or tablet this wouldn't be the ideal spot. Upon the reply of Sunset Grill: I do understand that logic and I can appreciate it as well. If the execution was fast service and food delivery then I would rate it different. It just didn't align with what I was looking for that day in that regard. Thank you for your response.

I used to frequent this location over 12-15+ years ago when it first opened and the original owners of the brand were still working there before they franchised it out. There are many other locations closer to where I live now. My wife wanted breakfast and we were in the area. I ordered a Sunset sandwich with home fries and a side of turkey bacon for pickup. Picking up was quick and fairly easy. The sandwich is good. The portions are what they are...either you get a decent helping or sometimes it is a bit lacking. Then again, it may also depend on your appetite at that time as well. My only quibble is that for a takeout/pickup, there was ZERO utensils, condiments or napkins which drives me crazy and I even tipped the staff on a pick up order. But hey, I like to pay it forward.....

The food here wasn’t that great. Pretty bland, not great tasting. The pancakes were the worst, so dense and not light and fluffy. The eggs florentine were okay, not the greatest still. The home fries were also pretty bad, not crispy just soggy. Just cut up baked potatoes that were unseasoned and I needed a lot of ketchup to makeup for the bland taste. At least they helped us seat 10 people.

I am a fan of Symposium we visit both locations in mississauga. The patio is nice and there specials are good and value. Staff are always friendly although yes a bit slow but when you're paying $5 for a burger on Mondays it's worth the wait. 2/1 desert is also a great deal for my daughter and I for one on one special time. I enjoy their eggs Florentine and the mimosas Saturday $19.99 pitchers of sangria Seriously how can you not love this place

I like it. Food is good their starters are not bad at all shrimp flat bread is my favourite.. Desserts are good too..just don't order there brownie it's more like a choc caramel cake. All over it's a nice place & staff is friendly. I believe in the saying if u go to a restuarant atleast three times you keep coming back. Will keep going!

We have gone here many times. I feel they are understaffed as the service is always slow. Today we had brunch - both of us ordered eggs benedict- It was cold-.When the manager asked how are meal was we said its ok- its just a little cold he offered to have it heated up ( the egg yolks would get hard so we said no) He really didnt seam to care -not even offering a free coffee- also the waitress asked if i'd like potatoes or fruit salad - i said the fruit- she failed to mention the extra $1.50 charge. Not sure if we'll be back again- maybe just for the $5 mamosas and $4 cesaers.

This is our second visit here in two weeks and both times they have screwed up our meals. What can I say other than that!

Order your food before you get there. The service isn’t to bad but actually trying to get your food is insane. We waited 20 minutes only to be told it’ll be another hour. The food is amazing but the need to overhaul their kitchen staff, every time I come here it’s a min 45 min wait.

Lower the prices 2 expensive but the desert was legendary

We live so close to this cafe and everytime we use to pass by we thought of going in once and we did it yesterday night. The place is so awesome. We took the patio and the staff was courteous and had a warm welcome. We went on to order couple of pitchers but the best was the spiced up chicken wings. They were mouth tingling. We closed it with sandwiches and were so full we couldn't order the ice creams. A must go place again.

Been here a few times for get-togethers and events. Firstly, the atmosphere is very average with nothing really special going on. The staff were quick and friendly at all times so it was a good experience. The food did lack defining taste (I have tried the Tuscan Chicken and the Atlantic Salmon dishes) but was cooked well and seasoned properly. The prices are on the premium side and the portions are not that great. Still, not a bad experience and would probably go there again occasionally.

Worst service ever. Arrived at 5:35pm waitress came by after ten minutes to take drink order 30 mins later she brought plates to table no drinks then asked if I wanted an apple martini or candy apple martini, disappeared for another 10 min, at the point I walked out please keep in mind if there were ten people in the restaurant that's too many my friend and I just want a nice drink and appetizers what a disappointment must be new owners they need a course in how to run a business. Willl never return.

Worst Experience Ever!!. I do not recommend this place to anyone who wants a nice and efficient breakfast. This was our 5th time coming to Symposium Cafe and every time that we went our experience got worst and worst and worst! This time it took 40-45 mins for our food to arrive. With our drinks coming 20 min before hand. My mothers coffee was finished and no one offered to refill it, we had to ask for water and that took 15 mins to arrive to our table. After threatening to leave we then received three out of four dishes and they were all cold. The waiters lack direction and so does the kitchen! That place needs a new owner and whole new staff who has a little bit more experience in being a waitress!

Not Worth The Price. We came here for a breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were seated at a table that was much too small for our party, as there were six of us. We asked if we could move to another table and were given the option however, it was much too late at that point as we had already received our menus. Our server, Alix, was kind and made some jokes, she provided us with great service. We ordered our meals and within five minutes, we were given our drinks. The drinks were very lavish looking but they were very small. For a Spanish coffee, it was almost $6 for a cup that was too small for anyone to drink out of. For a regular sized coffee, it was almost $4. Wow, how do they justify charging so much for such a simple drink? After about fifteen minutes of receiving our beverages, our meals arrived. The meals were not too big, and they cost between $10-$12 each. Also, sausage was extra for some of the meals, which meant an extra charge which we weren't told about. The meals itself were good, but nothing that we raved about. The egg mcmuffin was cold, and the eggs were not very filling. We agreed that the place was nicely decorated with nice music however, I would rather pay less and get better food than have those decorations up. We ended up spending $92 for six people for breakfast; wow, that was definitely not worth it! I don't know how this place stays open, but definitely way out of our price range. Won't be coming here anytime in the future that's for sure!

Bad food and worse service. At 9:00pm on Friday Aug 9 the restaurant was half empty but surprisingly took 15 minutes before a server came near us for drinks. After ordering "breakfast" which is why we came in, we were informed that because they were training in the kitchen they'd stopped serving breakfast at 4:00pm. So another minutes goes by and a second server shows up. I ordered the broccoli soup which looked and tasted like oversalted beef oxo gravy (there was a rim of grease around it), and my friend ordered a pest chicken sandwich which was slathered with oily pesto sauce that ran down her arm. When we complained we were told that the soup got a lot of similar compaints and that she realized how much it sucked to go out for dinner and then be disappointed. Wow. Meadowvale location is really giving this chain a bad name. I not only won't go there again, but will spread the word.

Where do I start...

My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to try Symposium located in Meadowvale, after hearing good things about the Woodbridge location from friends. We went in on a Thursday night at around 9:30pm. Our food, service and overall experience was beyond disappointing and almost shockingly distasteful.

We entered the restaurant unsure if the place was even open...As we entered an almost pitch black and empty dining area, we were greeted by a smiley "hostess" who welcomed us in with the phrase "catching flies?" Dumbfounded by this initial comment, my boyfriend and I stood awkwardly while the girl made some rationalization about my boyfriend yawning as he walked in. He was not yawning but was gasping at how empty and dark the place was. The comment was hardly appropriate but we laughed it off and proceeded to our table.

We were sat at a two-person table underneath the "Open" sign (facing outside) which presented a rather "Red Light District" feel with its hazy red hue. We were worried we would soon be in for an exotic dance by the staff at Symposium. This however would not have been appropriate with Celine Dion playing in the background and Dem Franchize Boyz' music video on the television.

Our server, who coincidentally was the same girl who greeted us at the door (great...), was generally bubbly and accommodating. However, she definitely lacked a great deal of professionalism, spewing off menu items she personally found to be gross (I guess we should have caught a hint!). She further made comments about my boyfriend looking like he needed something "big" to satisfy his hunger...whilst informing us that HER boyfriend works out 24/7.

I ordered dessert (East meets West) which was not bad but also far from spectacular (very simply prepared and of poorer quality than expected); as well as a Chai Vanilla Latte which unfortunately I sent back as it tasted infused with soapy chemicals. My boyfriend had it worse; he ordered a pasta (bad idea) which was covered in what seemed like a cream cheese dip and canned crab. It had no flavour and was probably one of the worst looking pasta dishes I have ever seen.

After a very short time spent at Symposium, picking at our food, we decided to call it quits and ask for the cheque. It took some time before we could get our server's attention and only then were we asked how everything was tasting. Too far gone ...

Gross food. Corny music. Unprofessional staff. Horribly uncomfortable ambiance. Definitely a good laugh...but not a place my boyfriend and I would ever attempt to share a meal at again.

Come here if you want to be cheated.
Came here with my wife on Valentine's day for a set menu. With a reservation we came and waited 15 mins before we stopped someone to serve us. After ordering the waiter came out and told us the app that came with the set menu was sold out. He expected us to pay the full price. When I ordered my 10 oz strip steak rare I ended up getting a 6 oz well done one. I sent it back and asked if this was a 10oz? He told me that they ran out of bigger steaks and that he'd take off $10 for the meal. This was only after I questioned them though. He tried to sneak in a smaller steak for the same price. I finally got my meal 10 mins after my wife finished hers. At the end, no apology from the owner and no discount on the meal. I'll not be going back.

NEVER try anything but dessert. I have been to symposium multiple times and although their desserts, smoothies and shakes are pretty good EVERY TIME i have ordered an appetizer or entree I have been discusted at the food i have gotten esp. for the price. Ordered cheese and spinach dip and got spinach that you'll find in a frozen spinach pack dumped in the bowl with a bit of CHEDDER cheese melted on top. THAT IS NOT a cheese and spinach dip if you ask me. I had ordered pasta earlier on with them and it did not taste well. I've made the mistake of ordering other things but desserts and always regretted it.

Great food. Good Service. Amazing dessert selection. Hideous decor and loud music.
