Review Chiu Chow Man - Mississauga

YYZ REVIEWER
Have been going to this restaurant for more than a decade. Have never been disappointed with the service nor the quality of food at our table. It’s always cooked fresh and always tastes delicious. The helping size is big. They take only cash which I find they need to change. The owners are always there to help you select or suggest if you are not sure about any menu items. I love their hotpot dishes! pricing is also fair!

We had lunch in this restaurant and ordered Fried Lobster with Ginger and Green Onion and Braised Oxtail in Hot Pot. The lobster was finger licking good and the oxtail was tender and delicious. The price is very reasonable and the portions just right. Service is fast. Looking at their menu - there are so many other dishes to try that we will surely come back to this place. They only accept cash payment.

After living in the area and shopping at this strip mall for decades my family and I tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday. We should have tried it long ago. Food is delicious, portions are big, and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend the lobster e-fu noodles, mixed veggies with mushroom and tofu, and the salty pork with broccoli. We had lots of leftovers to bring home for lunch the next day. Just make sure you bring cash to pay as they dont take credit cards. Easily our new go-to for authentic Chinese, both eat-in and take out!

Excellent tasty Chiu Chou food available at this small restaurant. This type of Chinese food is a little different from your typical Cantonese or Northern Chinese fare. Our favourite dishes is the pig stomach pepper soup and the clay pot rice.

For Chinese New Year: Radish Cake, Taro Cake, Water Chestnuts Cake and Glutinous Rice Cake are all excellent quality. Lots of ingredients, big pieces of dry shrimp, Chinese sausages, taro, etc.

Great Chiu Chow Chinese food! A local, family favourite. We love getting take out here. Food is always great quality. Check out the lunch combos that come with a drink. A great deal!

What an amazing meal! This is chiu chow food of the highest quality. It was super busy when we went so it was a tad slow but things came out relatively quick considering. The braised pork belly was spot on, steamed fish special was well executed, snow pea leaves and king mushroom was perfect, dumplings was the best version I've ever had and even the fried tofu was simple and delicious. Would not hesitate to come back again soon. Update: Came back to this place several times since then and the food quality is still excellent.

Chiuchowman is one of our favourite restaurants and well worth the drive from Burlington/Hamilton to Mississauga. The food is always delicious and we rarely have any leftovers. We usually ask for the Oyster in the Hotpot with Black Bean Sauce (not formally on the menu), along with Chiuchow Chicken, and their meal packages. YUM!!!

Best Chiuchow place in GTA! We always stop by for dinner after cross boarder shopping.

These numbskulls gave me the wrong take-out order and didn't realize it until 30 minutes later. They called me as I was about to reach my home to ask if I can come back to drop off the order they gave me by accident for the other customer. The manager sounded very eager to get the order back, so I braved the horrible rush hour traffic to switch the orders. When I got there, they just took the bags from my hands and gave me my order. It wasn't until they saw how angry I was that they even thought of apologizing. I can't tell if these people behaved the way that they did because they are dumb or just plain immoral. They actually deserve zero stars for being so unapologetic about the mess they made, but it seems you must give a minimum of one star.

This place is awesome! I've been here a few times and finally got a chance to sit back and write a review! All the times that I've been here not one time has it disappointed me! It's been a great food journey here and I got to try a lot of different dishes!
So to start off I would recommmend V06 it's a garlic chives stirfry with squid, tofu and deep fried taro strips it's light but packed with flavor and textures.
Next I would recommend the E01 it's deep fried tiger shrimp on a 5 spice salt it's amazing! If your into pork I would highly recommend a braised pork belly dish with preserved vegetables it's number V32a!
Next i would like to recommend a different and weird sounding dish but pls pls try it before U knock it,its number A14 deep friend fish skin! If you have had deep fried pork skin or deep fried chicken skin it's to me better than all those items because it's crunchy without the fatty oiliness! Please let me know what you think about the skin of u try it because it's definitely a MUST TRY ITEM!

Every once in a while I crave a solid Chui Chow style meal. I heard many good things from other fellow foodies, so I decided to check it out tonight!😃

Situated in a dated stripmall Chiuchow Man stands in a corner lot. It's definitely not a very fancy place but I never judge a book by it's cover.🤔

After been seated promptly l and glancing over the menu I landed on some solid Chiu Chow classics: 'ho Jai jook'(oyster Chiu Chow congee), Chiu Chow style duck, clay pot rice with pork jowl anchovies and fish dumplings noodles. The oyster congee arrived first. It was filled with oysters and the soup and rice was of good balance. It was very good. The slivers of shiitake mushroom and dried fish intensified the congee's flavor. 🤗 The clay pop rice arrived faster than expected as on the menu indicated a 20 min. prep time. It was fresh and hot. However, I was slightly disappointed at the stinginess of meat. For a pot that size and only about 6 thin peices of jowl was offered? 😶 The taste was good. But I think it should have been kept on the open flame for a longer period because the rice on the bottom of the pot didn't have the chance to form to golden brown and to a crispy chip like texture. That was a shame because that is my favorite part to clay pot rice!🙄 Next up was the fish dumplings and noodles. That was a sure hit! The fish dumplings had a bouncy texture and had very good bite. The inside of the this juicy dumpling was made of meat and the skin of the dumplings were made of fish paste/ forming a skin texture . It was done very well! The last time I had these dumplings was many moons ago in Hong Kong. These dumplings were awesome! A bonus was the wonton noodles were also cooked perfectly, as there is nothing I hate more than soggy wonton noodles!😄 The final dish for the meal was the Chiu chow duck. It was good but not a great. No surprises to me in the taste realm but a fair dish all in all.

I enjoyed my mean at Chiuchow Man. I will definitely return if I am in area. It's a solid place for a good a Chiu Chow style meal!😊

Conveniently nested in the Golden Square Plaza, Chiuchow Man specializes in a less common type of cuisine that is Chiuchow (also known as Teochew, Chaozhou and a whole other bunch of other names). Apparently this kind of cuisine is specifically from the Chaoshan region in Southern China and relies more on braising, steaming, and whatnot for its subtle flavours.

The pork stomach soup was tasty and came with large pieces of chewy meat though it was also quite salty. The fish dumpling soup on the other hand was less salty and had giant juicy balls (oh my), which were very satisfying to bite into. However, the fried turnip appetizer was my favourite dish. It had a soft doughy texture with little bits of sweet and salty pork and was nicely seared/caramelized on the outside. Would come back to try more of their menu. The fried fish skin looked really good...

This place was so good. Out of my expectations. The fatty pork was tender and bursting with flavours. We also ordered the steamed tilapia which was their special for only 9.99, cheaper than when I make it myself. Prices are great. Just the wait time may be long if you go past 6:30 pm. Long waits for people after us. Luckily we wrapped before them.

Got the seafood chow mein and the sauce was clear with no colour (very odd) and lacked flavour. Had to add soy sauce and chili oil for a decent kick.

Beef stir fry with mushrooms was more like mushrooms and some shredded beef pieces.

Was not impressed. Their take out platters are decent though for parties.

Delicious regional Chiu Chow food at very reasonable price. Love their soy sauce duck. The stir-fried Chinese broccoli with dried fish was excellent - haven't had such crunchy and sweet broccoli for a long time. The white-cut chicken was just okay but the hot pig's stomach, sour vegetables, pepper soup was very good with big chunks of stomach and veggie.

It's a small diner - would be cramped for a large group. But small group dinners would be okay. The menu is very reasonably priced - would be hard put to find something like this in Toronto for the price.

Have been here for family dinners on a couple of previous occasions but specifically went this time to try their fish dumpling noodles. I ordered the lunch special, having squid balls and fish dumplings with rice vermicelli. An extremely generous and tasty portion; I couldn't even finish all the balls and dumplings (were given 3 golf ball-sized of each)! Only complaint was that they only had one server for the entire restaurant during lunch hour, so service was slightly slow. Nonetheless, a pleasant experience overall!

UPDATE: apparently the chef for the fish dumplings has changed and it no longer tastes the same, so refrain from ordering it!

Lobster Chow mein!. For the price (16$) I expected the Lobster to be frozen-non fresh. However they were fresh! In fact they had ordered cases of live lobster from their supplier when I was seated!

Noodles were crunchy on the outside and sauce was superb.

Deep fried squid was one of the best I had ever tried, close tie with rol san in Toronto.

Only downside was that they serve shark fin soup :( ...guess they aren't aware of the unethical and socially harmful practices of it.

Best deep fried squid with salt and pepper!

Good Chiu Chow food and dessert.

Good food/price. We come here when the family is too lazy to cook and we've never been disappointed! The food is good and they are always fast, even if the restauranted is seated to full capacity. Service is good and price isn't bad. Their soy sauce duck + cold marinated tofu platter is nice, as well as their chicken with ginger stuff on the side dish and oxtail stew, yummmm. Come here next time you feel too lazy to cook ::)

Great Chiu Chow food at great prices!. Came here on a satruday night - it was packed with chinese people (always a good sign that it's authentic). The restaurant is not very big, but the decor is inviting. Good selection of chiuchow fare. Tried pork stomach/salted vegetable soup (surprisingly good, a bit too spicy for my taste though), marinated duck and a garlic/conpoy vegetable stirfry. All are good solid dishes. The dessert we had was a very thick taro paste with gingko nuts. I never had this dish before so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be this thick. The texture is too thick to my liking but the taste is good. Will be back.

Thumbs down. Had high hopes going in but was very disappointed. Ordered the lobster special with set menu. The fish soup was ok. The steamed chicken was overcooked and tough. The seafood and vegetables was again ok. The snap peas that came in the dish were quite good - the rest was nothing to write home about. The worst was the actual lobster which came overcooked, flavourless and rubbery - truly a tragedy. Not coming back - better restaurants around

Great little place - the lunch specials are cheap and really good. Try their soups it's cheap and large portions. Also their deep fried baby fish appetizers are awesome.

Good. Chiu Chow cuisine is a rarer find in Chinese restaurants, and Chiu Chow Man is the best if not the only place to find it in this town. The fish dumplings are a must-order, as are the oyster omelette and poached duck. Cripsy, deep fried pig intestines are another favourite, served with chunks of pineapple and sweet and sour dipping sauce to balance the richness of the intestines.

Serving authentic Chiu chow regional dishes. A busy place with fast service. Famous for cold crab and duck. Reasonable set menu for small group and casual family occasions.

Unsure of what to order, we decided to be safe and order a noodle dish and something else. The lobster with chow mein caught my uncle’s attention. I’m pretty sure this dish is from Hong Kong… Anyway, my uncle requested extra lobster sauce for the chow mein. It didn’t look like that added that much more sauce. We could smell the smokiness from the dish when it arrived. My stomach rumbled. I tried a small bowl of chow mein and had a small piece of lobster. The gooey sauce was bland. It needed more oyster sauce/salt and ginger. The lobster itself was sweet though.
