Review Calabash Caribbean Cuisine - Mississauga

Went there today - staff is very nice and friendly. I had the Jerk Chicken for lunch, take out. Absolutely delicious food, tastes home made. Will be coming back for more and to try out the rest!

The food here is absolutely delicious and the staff are welcoming and friendly especially Ron. I have been coming here for a long time and the food is always consistent and excellent tasting along with great portions. I definitely recommend Calabash for your next meal.

Excellent food! Just tried the oxtail soup on my sister's recommendation, one word Marvelous, okay two words Delicious! Everything is home made and the owner is always very welcoming and wants to ensure his clients are happy with their purchase. I've also had their roti both chicken and beef all excellent and great portions. Give it a try, you'll love it.

Ordered the curry goat roti and the doubles and the food was great. The owner greeted me with warm and friendly welcome and he told me he enjoys this place to make others happy and keeps positive vibes in the building and it definitely shows through his food. This has and will always be my favorite spot for Trini food.

Amazing food, friendly owners. The Paratha was freshly made, super soft and flavourful. The Chicken curry Totti (Paratha) is big enough for 2 or leftovers. My wife and I are both very please and look forward to going again.

Easily the best Roti in the GTA. I grew up in Mississauga and moved to Toronto. I’ve been searching for a Roti that compares and I simply can’t find one. The portions are huge and Ron is always a pleasure to interact with.

Absolutely the BEST roti in Ontario! Just like home. Shells are soft and big! Filling is smooth and so tasty. Nothing lacking. Aloo pie - YUMMY!! Pholourie is so soft.

Customer service here is immaculate. Ordered a jerk chicken & oxtail. It was very flavourful & well seasoned. Just the right amount of spice. The oxtail doesn’t fall off the bone, however I don’t mind. Rice was delicious, & the gravy was delicious. Food was hot, and chicken was tender and juicy. Definitely a hidden gem right between Sheridan & clarkson. Will come again

the location is ideal due to the closeness to main roads and highways-coming from St. Catharines. I ordered the jerk chicken and rice and peas which I would rate as average. The chicken was good but the rice and peas had no flavor- need more seasoning. The salt shaker on the table was close to empty. My friends order the goat curry which was average. The plus was the boneless goat meat but again it was lacking seasoning. My friend also ordered 4 chicken rotis to go when we arrived and had to weight until the server bought 4 rotis to patrons that arrived 15 minutes after us. It seems very strange to have patrons that ordered first waiting for their order; customers are customers and all should be treated the same.

The food was incredibly enjoyable, and the portion of roti was huge. There was a cozy atmosphere and the customer service was great. I will definitely be coming back!

Incredible tastes matched by an owner who takes great pride in your dining experience. I highly recommend if you're looking for top notch West Indian food... I'll be coming back!!

This place is the best! I've been eating at Calabash for years now, even before I was vegan. I usually get the veggie roti, which comes with potatoes, chickpeas, spinach, cabbage, and veggies. The portions are always huge and the food is absolutely AMAZING!!

What a great experinece! Amazing food, my family and I tried this place out this past weekend and it was simply delicious. The portions are huge and you certainly get your money's worth. The owners are extremely friendly and they tailor all meals to suit your needs. We will most definitely be back soon!

Worst food I have ever had. "jerk chicken on rice, and curry chicken roti" the jerk chicken was disgusting and had pink bits that looked undercooked and most of it was fatty chewy bits I had to spit out ,also its dark meat. The roti was bland and soggy, had to eat it like a burrito.I've never posted or reviewed food ever in my life, but I had to share my experience.I'm actually quite mad this place is still running.Funny how the last 3 reviews were all posted exactly 23 days ago with the same sc ore

The jerk chicken from here is out of this world along with the oxtail, would definitely recommend it to anyone! The staff is extremely friendly and inviting!

One of the few Caribbean restaurants in the GTA where you can get the Trini vibe as soon as you walk in. The food is absolutely marvellous as well, Cajun chicken with Ting (grapefruit refreshment) is my favourite!

New Owners cutting corners on quality of food and taste! First Owners Have Left. The original owners look like they sold this place or it is under some new management. There is a bald guy at the cash register and he is making the food in the back. There used to be cooks in the back now it's just him. He can't cook. The food lacks the flavor and taste that it once had. Also he microwaves the food too much and it comes out dry and tasteless, even more so than it already was to start with. It's disgusting how people try to sell you garbage food and think that it's acceptable. It's not. He is cutting corners, the food was just terrible, he shouldn't be allowed to sell food to unsuspecting customers. I am never going back there again. I miss the Trinidadian daughter and father team who I used to see on a regular basis running Calabash. These new people have destroyed a once good Caribbean restaurant in Mississauga.

I'm a fool for jerk. Anytime I see a restaurant with an exotic name like Calabash, I'm drawn to try it because I reckon it will be an interesting ethnic food experience. Calabash did not disappoint. It's not perfect, but it would have gone over well where I used to live in south Florida, which was replete with immigrants from the islands.

I love hot stuff, and it's hard to find jerk chicken in Canada, so I had a salad made with the stuff. It was two sliced chicken breasts -- nicely cooked, not too dry -- over a simple salad of iceberg, cuke chunks and shredded carrot. I've had hotter jerk food, but the charring and sauce gave it a pleasant mouth-burn.

It's also hard to find Caribbean roti where I live in B.C. so I bought a goat roti to take with me on my road trip to Washington D.C. I did it partly just because I like to say "goat roti." Rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? I had to spit out of my mouth at least four gobs of inedible fat, though. I know it's goat, but c'mon -- that's too much! The curry seasoning was nice and hot -- Calabash asks you how spicy to make it, and I chose the max. This thing was huge, and it held up well for being unrefrigerated in the back of my car for 18 hours. Curry spice kills germs, right? Too bad it doesn't tenderize goat gristle.

I recently came across this restaurant. I have attended a lot of other restaurants that sell rotis, doubles etc. This restaurant is a hidden gem. The owners are really nice people and food portions are big. Give it a try! The goat roti is my favourite.

Great rotis. I was introduced to rotis here, but after living in Barbados, I must say, these taste quite authentic, and are four times the size. I like how they put in curry potatoes and chick peas along with the meat, other places I've been to leave out the peas, making for a bland roti.

Nice. Being a roti expert, I thought i'd drive over to this place for a sample. I live in Toronto. Atmosphere was great. Love the little calabashes around. These people seemed to have put a lot of thought and some serious elbow grease into this place. The menu was nice The roti was ok. I had a soup as well. It was delicious. I would definitely return. Price was a little steep though. But definitely a revisit.

Calabash has one of the best roti around!!! Definitely worth trying!!

The place looks run down, but the food was good!

This place is hit and miss. I've had fantastic doubles, ok doubles, and terrible doubles( tasted like they mixed in some eggs as filler). Their dhalpouri is always good, not great but good. Given the lack of west indian restaurants in the area, this place does satisfy my cravings for some curry goat and roti.

Cozy environment, Friendly staff. I work at Winston/dundas area, and the local Roti Place by Longo's Shut down. So, I was happy to find this place.

I had the chicken Roti, $8, and a can of coke.

The envrionment is very warm, and the staff are friendly.

I am no expert at roti, but I found it Pretty good.
My single complaint is that there was slightly too much flour inside the wrap. The filling (Chicken, Curry and Potato) was delicious - Everything was very moist and tender. I ordered Mild, and it was flavorful and almost sweet, without being too rich. Quite a good balance that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This place is not a high end restaurant - pop is served in the can, However they put a little carrot garnish on the plate that was a nice touch for an 8 dollar meal.

Overall, I'd rate a 7.5 out of 10

Good Food Cheap. The roti's are filling and good. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly and polite. We usually get the beef roti and chicken roti to go as we live fairly close by. As we live close by its one of our 'fast food' go to places.

There is something to be said about a little neighbourhood place like this. You won't find burgers, fries and something out of sync in the menu. What they do is Carribean food and they do it right. They don't have 49 different items on the menu they have Roti's, Rice, and a couple different Carribean dishes. Thats it. By doing a few different dishes and doing it right they are able to offer a good quality menu at reasonable prices.

Friendly People, Tasty Food. I've gone there numerous times, so being specific about my experiences is difficult. The people working there are always friendly and helpful. The food tastes great and its all affordable.

A real treat. I love their "channa" chick pea, and there chicken roti.

I would recommend this as a great restaurant for first timers

Love their rotis! Good sized portions. I prefer though to buy take out as the restaurant has understandably strong curry smell. Friendly owner and efficient service.
