Review Union Social Eatery - Mississauga

Steven Van Elk
Really liked this place. Outside looked like a strip mall, but inside felt like a bar. The food was delicious. I had the fish and chips. It was battered and fried perfect. The kids loved the chicken tenders and pasta from the kids menu. They had a decent selection of local beers. Nice place.

Nice casual and cozy atmosphere. Service was alright, although the server was kind and friendly, food took a while to come out. Especially drinks because towards the end I ordered an espresso martini and took her 15 minutes for one drink. The maple syrup wings are great and a unique flavour and not your typical bbq or honey garlic wings. We also got the chicken tacos which were great!

Very friendly staff. Quick service and good food. I have been to USE many times. Booked prior to coming. I got 2 follow up calls from their team members confirming my reservation. Also gave me info on their A/C unit malfunctioning. I am going to be going to this place more often now.

This place used to be a lot better… sad to see it’s changed over the course of a few years. They significantly reduced their menu - I presume as a result of covid. Ordered the social punch with my dinner as I used to get it a few years back. It was juice. Completely changed the recipe, or perhaps the bartender that night was just new. It’s still a nice place to meet up with friends or coworkers, but the quality has definitely gone down.

The French fries were like a rock..very dry and hard. Probably been sitting in the kitchen for 3-4 hrs..I had to throw it out as I wasn't able to eat them. I came here to dine in, but the lady at front assumed I was here for take out. Eventually I ordered take out. Only the Fish was great, other items were ok.

There is a very cozy feel to eating at this restaurant. Whether you eat in the evening for dinner or afternoon for lunch, there is a good mood. You can either go with your family or a group of friends as you will feel comfortable with the other patrons. Overall it's a good experience, the only thing better would be a more larger menu. Though what they offer is all tasty from what I have tried.

Good vibe, pretty good Cowboy Ceasars. Really enjoyed the calamari, shrimp tacos and wings.

UFO burger was dry and the place was too noisy. The fries were good, but the server was very slow, not as good as Jack asters

What a great atmosphere for any day of the week and any occasion. The staff are really friendly and the venue is well kept. Specifically would like to say thank you to Alicia for making my experience above and beyond my expectations (which were already high). The food is delicious - had the Dijon lemon salmon which was perfect. I didn’t have to wait to be seated and was checked on numerous times throughout the evening. I never once asked for a refill and always had my drink full. I am very impressed and definitely will be coming back to try something else very soon!

Came into the restaurant a few days ago with a few friends for a bday dinner. I ordered a burger. The food was amazing! But it was really the service that made my visit exceptional. We were served by this lovely lady Amanda. She was attentive, quick and efficient. Even with our large group, none of us were ever left waiting for anything. The manager Ronnie came by during the meal and made sure we were well taken care of. Honestly never seen this level of attention anywhere else... especially for a large group. Kudos to the staff!! We will be back.

Went to the place on recommendation of a friend and was pleasantly happy with the choice of burger and the service by the staff. Super friendly staff and manager added to the experience. The ambience was amazing and would definitely visit with friends again.

Great time! Our waiter was awesome, so many amazing food choices, our party of 12 loved their food. Can't wait to go back. And had a separate gluten free menu!

The best damn chicken tacos Iv ever had in my life ... amazing ambience and awesome service ... can't believe there's a place so hip and close to home where everybody knows your name .. :)

It’s ridiculous see the manager run outside to borrow a eggs from the neighbour restaurant. My server is responsible for the bar. How can she server our table if she is serving all the bar ??? Food took 43 minutes. Never again

Worst food ever!! Burger was so greasy that the oil was dripping on my plate, had to return gravy as it was whitish in color with a funky taste and fries were soggy. Complete waste of money!! Will never return.

We came here on the weekend and had an amazing time; the food was awesome and the atmosphere was great . Shaunna was our server and she was absolutely excellent. Very friendly, quick and knowledgable! Will definitely be going back and asking for Shaunna.

I went with my family for the first time on Canada day (yesterday). It was around 6:30pm, we were five people the restaurant wasn't packed at all, they told us we have to wait for about 45 minutes, even though there was a table for eight in front of the bar that was empty. They said it was reserved for 7pm, we would have to leave in half hour if they gave it to us. They offered us a u shaped booth with a small table for four, we decided to wait. A table was open 15 minutes later which we were seated at. The waitress that was assigned for us was Stefania, she was amazing, pleasant and very attentive. I had the special of the day that she told me about which was very tasty. Everybody enjoyed the food, but the reception at the beginning had ruined the experience for the rest of the evening. We were there for over two hours and that table that we asked to be seated at when we came in was still empty even as we were ready to leave over two hours later I did mention it to our server, she didn't say anything and I didn't want to put her on the spot.. Honestly I find such treatment unnecessary and it doesn't make me feel welcome for next time. As great as a restaurants food is, the experience you have initially with the welcoming staff is very important, and we didn't feel welcome at all, they didn't care when I appeared frustrated with what they were saying, and in my opinion that is something they do all the time, and I felt anything but welcome. If it wasn't for my kids wanting to try this restaurant, I would've left the restaurant without trying it. In my opinion management needs to rethink their approach on seating and reservation.

Had a great dinner tonight. The service was above and beyond. The staff was smart, attentive, super quick, unintrusive, and amazing. The food was old familiar items with their own flair. It was yummy, the perfect temperature and texture. Thank you again for the great meal, super awesome service, at a halfway decent price.

First time coming here- atmosphere is great I will give them that. Waitress was helpful at first but once we got our drinks and food she was not very helpful. My burger tasted great but my wife's and my mash potatoes were ice cold. No one to address the issue (hence she never came back). I ordered a drink and never got it. Waited about 35 minutes to get our check (had to ask for it).... she still didn't bring it... so asked another employee to ring us out. Food was good but they dropped the ball on service.

Amazing attentive server we had...we didn't have to ask for a single thing he just knew didn't pressure us to order didn't hound us like most places, all around a great experience!

My teenagers commented that it's the best steak ever. Their faces were priceless. With that steak, the price is very reasonable. Thank you so much for a great evening!

I was at the Yonge and Sheppard location. Very bad service. Food was ok. Would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't had to wait an hour for a burger

If you go, definitely try their Buffalo Chicken Tacos! They’re so good. The place also has a nice vibe and service was great!

Happened to be here on Friday Evening. Good ambience , candle light effects , hook beneath the table to for ladies to hang their hand bags polite service. But the food was not up to the expectations.
Lemonade (not on the menu) - loaded with lemon syrup so sour and acidic served without sugar first time . After informing the waitress they added sugar syrup and that's all it still sour not able to complete.
Cheese taco- served with salsa and sour cream. Nothing special to comment about the taste.
Firecracker- 4 pieces for 10$ not worth the money. But tasted good. Give it a try .
Flat bread with goat cheese - plain bread added with some topping. Goat cheese served there was mild and good.
No veg burger in stock - supposed to be good there
Beer only this that didn't disappoint
Not on list to visit again

The place has great ambience although it was crowded but it’s an happening place for food and drinks. The staff was courteous and always ready to help and suggest on food. The price is also good on pocket but the service was bit slow but can’t complain since it was jam packed. Excellent place to visit.

This place is a hidden gem apart from chain's it would be a better option regardless of the occasion. Went for brunch with my sister didn't enjoy the high tables as their awkward to eat on our server was at first decent but she stood there awkwardly as the machine was being used to pay and couldn't even make small talk. As for the food got the burger with short rib very succulent but a tad overpriced given the size of the meal and savored a mimosa too but love the rustic feel and menu options are very enticing

Social Eatery however is not as good to be honest the food just lacked any lasting effective beyond doing it's job filling my appetite. Saturday 16th on the patio drinks $5 on a Saturday but were watered down (Blackberry Mojito, Lime Margarita, and A Tropical Cocktail) except for mine which was very strong and over iced. 2 apps the friend chicken and donuts which were not fried more like timbits. The spinach dip was more promising but the tomato's were awful and the poutine was alright the ailoi is something I haven't tried before but the skinny fries just not my favorite. My mom got the veggie burger she was pleased with it but again the fries service on point but food needs work

Went with a friend after work. I ordered Short Rib Poutine and got the worst Poutine ever!! There was not a single piece of cheese curd, the gravy had no taste, and the potatoes were very soggy. My friend ordered Garlic herb chicken and she got a very bad one too with tasteless chicken and sauce! Never going there again!

My first visit to Union Social Eatery and I have to say the staff and management are awesome. They are very polite and friendly which makes your dining experience a pleasant one. I had the fish and chips and I loved the dill sauce what a nice change from tartar sauce. My daughter had the Epic Cheeseburger and she enjoyed every bite. Can't wait to go back to try something else.

Went for lunch today. Had an amazing sever, who described the best pics so well we ordered them. While waiting, a manager came over with an appetizer for us as she heard it was our first visit.
A+ for customer service. Come early tho, this place fills up quick. Will be back for sure.

Ordered Banana coconut chicken and chicken wings. The server was very sweet and helped us select a meal but i did not like food.Everything was super fried with oil dripping and banana dish was not so great. Had to order chili sauce to finish the food on plate.

Great Comfort-Food Type Menu! Came here recently for my birthday with a large gathering. Its one of those places that feels extremely inviting - the staff are very pleasant - and the food is good quality. For what it is - it does a superb job. Would be back if it weren't so far away from where I live!

This restaurant is a busy place during the lunch time hour. I ordered the banana coconut encrusted chicken which was delicious! Also ordered the shrimp soft tacos for appetizer which were average. Waitresses were very busy during this time, however our waitress personally shook our hands and the end of our meal which was a great show of gratitude. Overall we were content and satisfied.

Came here Friday night, was busy place but me and my friend were greated warmly and seated right away. We had an amazing and knowledgeable waiter named Matt who was able to help me decide on two great salads. He suggested the spinach with the Ahi Tuna which turned out to be delicious. Also the drinks are actually surprisingly good and the mojito was one of the best I have had. This restaurant knows how to pleases its customers and keep its staff happy. All the staff were very attentive, friendly and genuinely seemed to enjoy their job. I was amazed at how fast the food arrived at our table and we were never rushed to pay the bill at the end like some other restaurants I have been too. Thank you Matt for making our dining experience a really pleasurable one and we look forward to seeing you again as we work close by at BMO on Argentia. Maybe we can convince our boss to have our Christmas party here hopefully. Have a great Thanksgiving to you and the staff at Union Social from two very happy customers.

My boyfriend works around the corner and wanted to try this place because he's heard great things about it from his co-workers. We came here on a Friday evening and yum! so glad we did, and I can't wait to come back. The atmosphere and décor is really warm and welcoming inside. The menu is big with a lot of unique items I have never seen anywhere which I love! I ordered the banana coconut crusted chicken and it was delicious! Half way through eating it I found it a bit sweet and the portion was large so I couldn't finish. I was also saving room for dessert - ny style union cheesecake and wow, I was completely in love. I'm really looking forward to coming back and trying something new, I would definitely recommend. I was pleasantly surprised and left feeling very satisfied :)

We were kind of late to the Mother's Day reservation game, but luckily there was still a slot at Union Social Eatery. My parents had tried this restaurant a few times before, but this was my first time seeing the black-yellow-white logo. The place was generally empty when we arrived, despite being the morning of Mother's Day. We were immediately greeted and sat down at a comfortable booth with sufficient window light for photo-taking.

Upscale pub food... Great for hanging out after work. They use good quality ingredients and have many good menu choices. Never had a bad meal here and for pub food it seems relatively 'healthy ' not dripping in grease and many items that aren't deep fried.

A great place to eat in Mississauga. Nice atmosphere, good for the family or to watch a game. Or for your wife's birthday!

The food is delicious and the dessert is even better. Have the mars bar brownie with ice cream. Mmmmm.
BigTreeEatingBear
I had the steak sandwich. The chimichurri paired with the garlic baguette is a great touch.

My friends had the Smokehouse Deluxe Burger and the daily special at the time (8oz steak, loaded potato, grilled veggies, fries, and onion strings). Both complimented their meals as well.

Serving sizes are very generous. We'll definitely be back again.

Trying to be hip in mississauga EPIC FAIL!. Really bad BAR food unless you like tonnes of fries????Trying to be creative menu.....not. Hey the ceasers were ok. The steak real cheap cut ...the cocunut mango chicken welllll the sauce might be bad ...no it was, the steak sandwich sad and small the dirty pub down the street from me has better quality..really!. The concrete counter tops were cool 10 yrs ago on queen west but now not so much I mean i like were you went with the canvas but you gotta have the food. Friendly staff but the watchdog that stands in front of the kitchen....really buddy if your going to do quality control watch a few more foody shows (annioying). I wouldnt recommend this resuraunt to any one even if they dont get out much I mean really Union Social Eatery whats in this name...not much but thats just my opionion I mean experience...oh and the gen manager you probably dont no but you come across with semi vei led sarcasm and dont bribe unhappy customers with gift certificates give them a real discount...just my opinion.

The best restaurant around although that was never sayig much. Still if ya want a business lunch location this is it in the area. I swear I should open a hip and happening spot in the area and clean up. As for USE it is good food but quantity is in distress. Also the waitresses flaunt some but it is getting less and less and less. Prob because they are busy they don't care to be serious to attract customers. S they work on it less. Whats worse is they are more and more staffed by guys. If I wanted to see guys in the office I would stay the heck in the office. Get your act together guys give more food, and for god's sake stop the skirts from getting longer and longer

Good food. Always good, always consistent, best burgers anywhere

Yummy. Heard a lot of recommendations for this place, and its close to my work place... Sooo stopped by here a couple times already and each time I've received great service and food + the daily drink specials are fantastic.

Great Service, Yummy Food. The waiter was very attentive when my book club group met there for lunch. One of us has a gluten intolerance, but that was not a problem as Union Social has a Gluten Free menu. After lunch, which was quite delicious, we paid our bill, and two of the ladies left. I stayed longer with my friend to catch up on life stories. We mentioned to the waiter that we may have coffee later if we stay. He didn't come back, so Eventually I popped up to the bar and asked. We did get our tea and coffee. When a server came by to see how we were doing, we mentioned that we were almost done and would like the bill for the hot drinks. They told us that the drinks were free of charge because we had to go to the bar to ask for them. That's quite the policy! All in all, an enjoyable experience.

Well, our 1st visit to the Union Eatery started with a phone call and we spoke with a friendly lady named Jessica. She was very inviting. When we arrived we were greeted at the door with smiling faces and escorted to our table. Our server was Alexis and we can't say enough of how informative and proud she was of Union Social Eatery. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she guided us on our order. We had the most amazing fresh food and absolutely loved that the staff seem to be truly happy. I only wish we lived closer so we could patronize this place regularly. The staff, Jessica,Alexis and Brook together with quality food made for an unforgettable experience.
Highly recommend the fresh Haddock and candy salad with grilled salmon omg delicious!

Erin and JeanGuy Belzile
North Bay, ON

Not As Great As It Seems. We walked into this restaurant on a Sunday evening at around 6:00 pm. It wasn't too busy therefore, we were able to get a booth as soon as we walked in. When we had looked at the menu outside of the restaurant, it said that all items were under $20 which we thought was a good deal. As soon as we sat down inside, we were given menus by our waitress. The place itself was quite large, with TVs mounted on the wall and a bar at the back. It seemed to be filled with the younger crowd as it was a bit loud. When we were ready to choose our items, our waitress came over and took down our items carefully. She was very kind and patient as we asked her questions about the menu items. There were five of us in our party therefore, we decided to order an appetizer first. We ordered the Fried Calamari, which came about five minutes after we had ordered it. The Calamari wasn't too tasty as it kept falling apart and the pieces were very small. Also, the sauce that accompanied the Calamari was too watery and there wasn't enough of it.

For my main dish, I settled on the Almond Crusted Chicken Strips (with an accompaniment of fries). After about ten minutes of us receiving our appetizer, our main meals arrived. The chicken strips were okay, but not too tasty, I feel as though there was something missing. Also, there weren't too many chicken strips, not as much as desired. For the fries, they were small and short, which made them difficult to pick up. They too seemed to be lacking some sort of necessary spice. There were quite a bit of fries however, too many to accompany the chicken strips. It was interesting how there were three sauces available in the middle of the dish for the chicken strips however, they were small and not too tasty. It was great that our waitress asked if we wanted extra condiments, which were as well, much too small. In total, my dish came out to $14.65 which I thought was a fair price however, wasn't worth the quality of food.

In total, the service was very good, our waitress was quite perky and made us feel excited about being there. However, the quality of food was lacking, and it wasn't enough to bring me back to this restaurant. I also asked some of the others in our party, and they all agreed that this restaurant wasn't one they would return to again.
Critic
Horrible Horrible Horrible. Went here for dinner last night after seeing all the great reviews and was greatly disappointed. The service and food was horrible. We asked for a glass of water and after about ten minutes we looked around to see where our server was and she was in the corner on her phone and than we waited for about another 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table. The place wasn’t even busy!!! I ordered the chicken tenders and fries but the fries came out cold and when I told the server she took the entire plate back and it seemed as if she had just put them in the microwave for a few seconds because she was back within 20 seconds and the fries were still cold. The chicken tenders were also cold at this point. The fries that we received I wouldn’t even call fries, they were the left over bits from the fryer. This place was a waste of money and a huge disappointment. We will never go back and will advice our friends to never go here either.

Great food, okay atmosphere. I've eaten here at least a dozen times since it opened - the flatbreads, almond-crusted chicken tenders, and rib firecrackers are my top picks on the menu...all are delicious, filling, and shareable. Definitely familiar food done uncommonly well. I've never had a bad meal here, and I've tasted most of the menu (from other peoples' plates...I'm pretty dedicated to the chicken tenders).

The atmosphere is well suited to a business lunch, drinks after work, or date night. Less appropriate for grandma's birthday lunch. Decor is industrial yet warm, but the noise can be overwhelming at busy times. The waiters are great about crouching down to table level so you can hear them.

Overall a great spot - fairly popular at lunch. Can be hard to get a table some days.

I've been three times so far. Love the burgers! Fries are really good too. I'm not sure about the chicken gravy though. I want to hate it but find I keeping dipping my fries.
I tried the Korean tacos on my first visit. Wasn't a fan. There's a strange flavour that comes from either the beef or the sauce. Almost like dish soap. Didn't like it. Haven't been unhappy with the burgers at all though.
Looking forward to trying more dishes. The menu looks pretty good and I found service to be quite friend and attentive.

I like the set up, but the food was ok. We went before the dinner rush, so it was almost empty but it took forever to get our meals. I tried the flatbread margherita pizza which flavors were mediocre. I liked our server because she tried her best to make our experience enjoyable.
Hooshios
Consistently good food. This is one of my favourite restaurants. They serve a variety of food, from pub fare to pad thai, steak to seafood, but almost all of the ones I've had have tasted exactly as I'd expect them to taste. My favourites include the carbonara, chicken tenders and fries, and burgers.
Sanka
I had the Swordfish burger with fries. It was delicious. Probably the best fish burger I have had in Mississauga. The fish burger is simple, not bread crumbed, savoury leek topping and the burger buns were light.
Cliffblizzard
Great Menu. Has become a regular spot for our family. Good kids menu. Great burgers. You can even go upscale for a date night with your better half and have steak & sushi combo main which is solid. Ahi Tuna with chips to start is done right.

Also make sure you check out the unique beers on tap.
Matty.kerpatty
Dissapointed. This is the second time I have been to Union Social and the first time was definitely better. I had the pad thai and my wife had the steak sandwich. I wasn't expecting the greatest pad thai I have ever had in my life but it was basically hot wing sauce on noodles and was hard to eat. My wife's steak sandwich was really fatty and she couldn't actually it at as a sandwich. Thankful our waitress was nice and got her a different menu item to make up for the bad sandwich at no extra cost. I probably won't go their in the near future again because there are too many other good places to eat in the area.

Repeat Customer. Been twice with my boyfriend now.
I'm a vegetarian, so both times I've had the Grilled Vegetable Flatbread. It is out of this world delicious. I wish I took a picture for you. Vegetarian or not, you will enjoy this meal. Large portion, I always take home leftovers. My boyfriend's burger the first time around was pretty greasy, but tasty and he tried the steak sandwich last night and it was chewy, but flavourful.
The staff is spectacular. We waited a while for our food last night but they were very apologetic and made it up to us before we complained. I love the environment. Long plank communal style tables on the bar side, which is really fun and modern and then more of an eatery banquet seating on the other. Great for all kinds. Highly recommend!
Sally
The food was good but what really got me was the fast drink service and friendly staff. Would defiantly eat/drink here again.

Mediocre Food Good Atmosphere. I have been to the Union Social Eatery on 3 occasions with my family. The first occasion we all liked it and I had the Dragon Rolls and the Ahi Tuna Salad. Very good. The second time I had the Thai bowl and it was not that great but I thought the place was worthy of a third try. The one thing is on the first two occasions the service was outstanding and they really tried hard to make a good impression. It was busy yesterday so I know it was slow (not a big deal) but there was no attention to detail and no wanting to make a good impression. My bowl of soup (which was good) was served without any presentation -- garnish or side of toasted bread (again not a big deal). I did not opt for another drink and wanted to get a water but none was forthcoming and no one was there to ask. The other meals were ok -- burger and fettuccine -- nothing special ... just ok. My meal was dreadful. I ordered the vegetable flatbread. It must have been made and reheated a while ago (days?). To make it not so offensive they chose to put some shredded greens on the top with balsalmic reduction (I suspect) to cover up the evidence (not detailed in the menu). Some of the asparagus was so overcooked it was the size of a skewer, dark brown, and crunchy. If you want a good atmosphere, usually good service and a pint with mediocre food you may want to try it. For me, there simply is too many other better options out there.

Great food!. Been here twice (or 3 times) and my experience there was pretty good. Their menu looks very original, variety, and affordable. Friendly staff (when it was busy, they were a bit slow) but nonetheless, very courteous. The only thing I would say that could be improved is the amount of sodium/salt is added onto the dishes. My french fries alone were extremely salty to my likings. I generally like salt on my food but that was too over bearing. Otherwise, two thumbs up!

The owner is a gentleman!!!. This man came to me and re paid me what I did for booze. I re put that back in to him. Right thing done I accept. As a man a person you did the right thing. I will definitely be back. Much respect. Finally a place to believe in and come back to!

-----20 Jan, 2013-----

Nice place don't be fooled!!!! Not enough servers attention. Food was decent . Don't get pizza unless it has chicken. Tequila is a Patrone bottle not what it seems. Refilled with José or Sauza ....been drinking Patrone and Sauza all my life!! I'm Latino THIS WAS NOT PATRONE!!!! Rip off will never be back.

Is there a new owner or chef here? Been here a bunch of times and food was always great but went here yesterday night with family and 4 of 8 meals were mediocre at best. Salads were way over dressed, chicken was Luke warm, fries were overly salted, Mac and cheese tasted and looked out of the box. Hmmm hope this isn't a trend. Service and drinks were excellent.

Work Lunch. Today, my colleagues and I, went for lunch at Union Social Eatery. We were very impressed. First of all, the place was packed with happy, goodlooking, hipsters, which is always a good sign! We were served quickly, by friendly, upbeat staff. The ambiance was very downtown chic, and the food was delicious.

This place is great. Friendly service and delicious food. I had the swordfish burger and the mars bar brownie for dessert. The French fries are nothing special but neither are they bad.

Same Old. No different than Milestone, Earl's....looks and feels like another chain.
Cover it with loads of sodium and it all taste the same.

Fantastic Restaurant!. We've been going regularly since we discovered this place when we were invited to an office Christmas party last year. The decor is great, staff is always friendly and the food is always delicious! You can't go wrong with the swordfish burger or candied mango salad or pasta dish or the thai bowl! It's all wonderful! We have a toddler and an infant and the staff is always so attentive! Great restaurant all around!

Great atmosphere! Great service! Amazing food! Parmesan Truffle Fries are Sooo delicious. Worth the trip. Can't wait to return to try the rest.

Tuesday Night Dinner. I went here tonight with my friend based on the great reviews. The restaurant was half empty and first were seated in the "lounge" until the hostess came by 15 mins later and noticed no one had served us yet. We then moved to the dining room and only waited another 5-8 mins for our server to come. eventually the food came and it was BLAND and conflicting ingredients. I had the curry bowl, which was more sweet than spicy. My friend had the swordfish which came swimming in a sauce that was also incredibly sweet and overpowering. He ended up scraping it off. We half ate our meals and weren't even asked how it was. We left feeling unimpressed and never plan on returning. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated though... that's about it.

Good food and good service!. This place opened after we moved from the area, however we went back and tried it, both my husband and I really enjoyed it. Wish they would open more locations!

Meh. A friend and I went there this past week. I ordered a burger and while it was nice and meaty, we were pretty grossed out to discover that the bottom of my burger bun was sitting in a glistening pool of grease after having just arrived at my table. Yuck!! We also found it a bit hard to catch the attention of our server as he was often busy watching some golf tournament that was playing on the tv screens.

Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed by it all, but I would consider returning to try the other items on the menu....provided I get a different server!

Neither Unionized Nor Socialist - Much Less Lofty. E: For some reason I was not as dissatisfied while eating as I was afterwards ('the McDonalds Syndrome'), but ultimately my West Coast Veggie Burger was a disappointment. I wanted to order a vegetarian option and the salads were Cool Bean, Candy or Cesar. All these options sounded unattractive or unhealthy so I opted for the veggie burger. It felt soft and oily. There was some sprouts and avocado on the burger, as well as thin processed cheddar and mayo. I also detected some pesto on the burger. It sounds good. The bun felt oily and was big. The fries were thin, well done and soft. It was a fair deal for $12 given today's exaggerated burger prices.
In general, I do not like ordering hamburgers - vegetarian or not - at restaurants as it is easily prepared at home, not to mention is over-priced, but the menu was a limiting factor.
A colleague ordered the pad Thai and was polite about it, yet seemed dissatisfied. He refused to comment on the food and just shook his head. Another colleague finished her salad, but left the cob. Another person finished the hamburger and salad without complaint.
On another note, the menu boasts a Kobe Beef Steak. Many know that Kobe - a major city in southern Japan - beef is prized for its pure heritage, cows' strict dietary regimen and fatty taste. The beef is expensive enough that even in Japan a steak would easily run over $100 in Canadian currency. So, how did Union Social strike exclusive culinary gold? Just one catch: Canada has banned the import of Kobe beef due to foot and mouth disease. OK, two catches: Japan does not export Kobe beef (to Canada or anywhere else) anyway. Knowing this, and wondering about the $18 Kobe steak on the eatery's menu, I did a search and voila: http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2012/05/07/sorry-canada-no-kobe-beef-for-you-either/
While I am 'poking' fun at Union Social Eatery's menu let's go for another round and talk about their, er, poke. The menu also features a Bluefin Ahi Crunch Salad and an Ahi Bluefin Tuna Poke. The former is described as being accompanied by Wasabi. I have neither seen this dish nor eaten it, but 'ahi' is a Hawaiian word and refers to Yellowfin Tuna, not Bluefin Tuna. This might explain why Union Social Eatery is serving 'Bluefin Tuna' at such economical prices (hint: yellowfin is much less expensive than bluefin). In fact, bluefin is an endangered species. Moreover, I very much doubt they serve actual wasabi. I should have asked while being there, but it is a very safe assumption that their wasabi is in fact horseradish/mustard/dye. My apologies to all patrons ordering 'Bluefin Tuna' or 'Kobe Beef.' Perhaps the person in charge of the menu also writes copy for the Sun newspaper chain?

They didn't attempt to force a compulsory gratuity like some restaurants, which is good.
-
A: The restaurant is both functionally laid out and furnished. They have high tables, regular tables and several bar seats. From the outside it is bland and minimalistic.
The restaurant is busy and, typical of restaurants Union Social Eatery aspires to be, has TV screens on walls tuned to millionaire jocks pretending to be interesting. These are overlooking dashing waitresses negotiating the patrons and tables. For me, big screen TVs scream low-end generic food.
-
T: A reservation insured we were seated right away. The waitress Katherine was prompt, friendly and forgetful. She sat us, took our orders, brought waters and drinks right away and subsequently forgot the water refills, requested refills and second drinks. She forgot one person's hot sauce and was late with another’s ketchup and my mustard. The mustard, by the way, was typical yellow-dyed vinegar we Canadians masquerade as that condiment. I couldn't stomach it. Oddly, Canada is a major mustard producing and exporting country. You would never know it when ingesting Heinz or French's dye. Incidentally, unlike a chain like Cactus Club Cafe, Union Social Eatery didn't nickle and dime us by charging for condiments like Ketchup or mustard.
Parking is always scarce at this plaza. Nearby corporate foot soldiers should consider walking.
-
S: The hostess, manager and waitress were friendly and smiley enough. Everyone seemed to be, oh so typical of modern restaurants, dashing, running and jogging around leading to subconscious stress. If the waitstaff are really so rushed that they need to dash from kitchen to table and backwards then the restaurant is understaffed.
I believe Union Social Eatery is a smaller, cheaper and lower budget version of Cactus Club Cafe (coming to Toronto in 2013). The food attempts at multiculturalism, there are TV screens, tables and a bar, there is a full liquor menu, the waitstaff are dressed similarly and yet it seems like our West Coast countrymen and women - and I even had the West Coast burger! - just do it so much better.

Great food, everything we ordered looked fresh and tasted good. The prices were good for the amount of food you were served. And the service was amazing, always checking up on us, as well as splitting the bill properly.

Usually great food. This time though they managed to over cook the fries.

Great Food, Terrible Service.. I've been to Union Social Eatery several times, all of which I've had an amazing experience. I went to the restaurant with a couple of people yesterday and the server was just unpleasant. The entire night he did not greet us with one single smile. He was extremely hostile, he took our order and disappeared only to come back when it was ready. He didn't check on our party, or ask about the food quality. I waited 15 minutes for him to re-emerge to ask for a slice of lemon for my Caesar Salad. Our water glasses were empty before our entree's arrive, and remained empty the entire night.

I've been to this restaurant enough to know that this was an off night, but my party did not enjoy the service given to us that night.

Amazing selection, everything sounds amazing on the menu. Servers are suuper friendly. And don't let the wait time from your food arriving from the kitchen fool you, everything is freshly made!!! :D

Fantastic!. Had dinner here with my hubby and in-laws since they live around the corner. Food was delicious, service was amazing and the atmosphere was top-notch. I would definitely go back here and I highly recommend the Banana Crusted Chicken in Mango Brown Butter sauce. It was a home run! The person who ordered that dish didn't get much of it since everyone else at the table was eating it too! Hah!

Best new place I have been in a long time! Food was outstanding. Real urban feel without the hassle of heading downtown! Prices are very reasonable considering the fine quality of the food. I recommend the swordfish. Cannot wait to go back!

Excellent food and service!. Been here twice, both times the restaurant service was amazing! We had a bad experience at a pizza/pasta place in the same plaza and got up and left to try this place instead and couldn't have been happier! My friend had the burger and said it was to die for, and my flatbread was very good. Drinks were made very fancy (caesars) and were delicious! Quality restaurant. Will be going back soon! Casual but great atmosphere.

This opened up recently near my work and it has been packed each time I've gone. It has a nice relaxed cool vibe. Great bar area and the restaurant side can accomodate larger groups as well for lunch or dinner.

Though the prices are higher than most restaurants in the area, Union Social does have some great dishes. I've tried their burgers, flat bread pizza, and club sandwich. The club is my favorite with its savory but sweet sauce and crispy shoestring fries. The flat bread pizza had a nice crispy and mildly charred dough but the toppings seem skimpy.

The service was personable and attentive. It's clear they're catering to the guys. The wait staff were all young ladies in very tight fitting outfits. Not a lot of skin is showing but it's easy to tell what their dress size. Overall, it's a great atmosphere but the prices might be too high for weekly office lunches. With no alcohol, my meals were over $20 with tip and tax.

May become "OUR" spot!. We happened upon this place through urbanspoon 2 weeks ago. It was fantastic. My husband had the steak and fries. Both delicious. Possibly the best fries we have ever had. I had the 3 cheese burger. If you like burgers, you will love this. Great bun, great charbroiled meat. Skip the creme brulee and have the cookies and ice cream for dessert. It is quite large though, great for sharing. Atmosphere was great, all booths with nice dim lighting. Went there again last night, was craving it so bad. I got the steak this time and the husband had the pad thai. He enjoyed it too. Hope to go back again in another 2 weeks!

Union Social Eatery. What a great find and only minutes away from home! Food is delicious, service is great and friendly and the prices are right on the button with the portions. My husband and I ate there for lunch and we both enjoyed our meals. The burgers are home made style and very filling, I ate the Candy salad served with a small bowl of soup and loved every bite.
This place is casual dining and very comfortable. I highly recommend it to all my friends who enjoy good food and great ambiance. Their menu is the same for lunch and dinner and has a lot to choose from. We will definitely be going back for more.

7.4/10. I like the casual atmosphere, food items are good, for what I've tried (Candy House salad, Ahi Tuna salad, soups are real good also). Kobe steak - it's not Keg steak, but you're not paying Keg prices here either, so it's a give-n-take. Ceasar salad always has too much dressing. Suitable place for a date, meal or just drinks after work.

I am so pleased such a great restaurant has opened in the neighbourhood. The food is quality and so yummy, my favorite is the figs in the garden salad and the veggie burger.

For my birthday, I hit up Union Social Eatery at their Mississauga location with my family and Nash. We ordered a little bit of everything from the menu. As a starter Nash had the Killer Soup ($4.95). The type of soup varies every day and his was a Potato Bacon. He said it was okay, but it had corn which was unexpected and less creamy than he thought it would be. These Parmesan Truffle Fries ($7.84) were very flavourful and addictive. The truffle flavour was only from the oil but that didn’t stop me from eating them all. The Korean Short Rib Tacos ($9.96) melted in my mouth. The House Braised Short Rib Firecracker was crunchy and served with a sweet chilli sauce. Since it was my birthday I thought I’d try the Social Punch which was made with Amaretto, Southern Comfort, orange, cranberry and pineapple juice. It was so delicious I drank it before our food came. My sister’s main was the Thai Red Curry Bowl ($13.96). A few people ordered the Steak and Sushi which was a cute take on surf an

I’ve gotta hand it to the place, though my expectations weren’t too high, this was actually a pretty solid burger.
Gluten Free Toronto
The staff is very nice and the restaurant offers its very own gluten free menu that actually has more than two options! From the gluten free beer and cider choices (my personal favourite was Sumersby Cider…..so refreshing!!), to appetizers to main courses, the gluten free menu is loaded with delicious food and drink items that most importantly, are gluten free! dre @ Derry & Mississauga Rd: We came here for St. Patty's/Gerald's Birthday. It wasn't too busy for St. Patrick's day. They served green beer and gave us these stylish Guinness hats and pins. I felt very festive! I took the pictures with my phone camera, so as the night went on, flash kicked in, so the quality wasn't as nice. We started with some appetizers. Ahi Tuna Poke - Ahi bluefin tuna, avocado, pineapple, Asian slaw, wonton crisps. I didn't get a chance to try this, but it looked good! Crispy Calamari - Hand-dipped calamari and crispy jalapeños, with tzatziki and house-smoked tomato sauce. I preferred the tomato sauce over the tzatziki. The calamari was pretty good, but I think we were just hungry. House Braised Short Rib Firecrackers - Pepperjack cheese, cream cheese, grilled Bermuda onions, cremini mushrooms, sweet chilli sauce. These were not what I expected, and although they looked good, I didn't like them as much because I found it too cheesy. I had the U.F.O.(Union's

While I was expecting a good experience at Union Social Eatery, nothing could have prepared me for just how amazing everything was.

We started with the Korean Short Rib Tacos & Parmesan Truffle Fries. The fries weren't dowsed in truffle oil, so they had just the right balance of flavour. The tacos stole the show of our entire meal. The crunchy coleslaw texture of the veggies, plus the short rib meat were great as it is but the Sriracha mayo literally blew this dish through the roof. Neither my friends nor I could wrap our heads around these tacos. 10/10 would recommend them to anyone visiting.

For the main course we ordered the Steak Sandwich ( subbed with dragon rolls instead of yukon fries) and the Roasted Mushroom Melt Burger w/ yukon fries.

The dragon rolls (sushi) were another mind blowing dish (because of the spicy mayo again). They do come as a starter, which I definitely would recommend you get; however, the idea of having them as a side means you get a steak sandwich (or any main) and sushi in one single meal - this is what dreams are made of.

The burger was satisfying, albeit a little dry. Some sort of sauce mushroom sauce could have possibly heightened the flavours. Nonetheless, the meat was fresh and tender.

For dessert, we ordered the Fresh Baked Chocolate Chunk Cookies w/ Vanilla Ice Cream. They were magnificent. I wish the cookies had been a little warmer and softer, but the whole thing was delicious nonetheless - the perfect finish to an already alarmingly good meal.

The service was very good too. Our waitress was a lot of fun and suggested most of what we ordered. I hope they open more branches soon, but in the mean while I'm definitely going back as soon as I can.

The steak was cooked in a Korean beef sauce and sliced and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The shrimp in the sushi was fried and it had a nice crunch.

Nash had the Korean Swordfish Steak ($18.98) served with veggies. I’ve never had swordfish before and I enjoyed that it wasn’t fishy tasting.

I ordered the Steak Frites ($19.73) but since I ordered truffle fries as an appetizer, I replaced it with a Candy House Salad. The steak was very juicy and flavourful. The Candy House salad was sweet and there were mini surprises of figs, mango, walnuts and more in every bite.

All the food was beautiful and delightful and I would definitely recommend it for a nice night out.
