We found this place maybe 3-4 years ago. Each summer when we go to cottage and we look for places to eat nearby in Midland. We found this gem. Their food is truly fantastic, and the atmosphere inside is unique (their patio - not so much). The one advice I give is make a reservation. They are busy pretty much every day.
Absolutely fabulous... cuisine, wine and service is TOP notch. I recommend this gem of a restaurant to all. Weekly visits to Explorers Cafe soothes the soul, brings me joy.
Thank you Rob and Jen Reader along with Chef Chris and the entire staff of Explorers Cafe... See you soon
Easily the best dinner we’ve had in a while. We had the flatbread, octopus salad, Thunder Thighs, duck, Creme brûlée, and chocolate peanut butter pie. Ate every single bite and rolled out happy with our lives ☺️
Excellent food and service. Every dish has a story. Really cool, eclectic space too. And my favourite wine, Masi Amarone, by the glass!
First time for my wife and I in Midland and I searched online reviews ahead of time for suggestions on where to get a great meal. The Explorers Cafe was well recommended and did not dissapoint. We came during the annual buttertart festival so I called ahead to make a reservation just in case. I’m happy I did! We arrived at 6:30 and the aromas hitting my nose when walking in were making my mouth water! The house was full and we were greeted warmly by our hostess and owner Jennifer who seated us in short order. Our server was Rebecca and she was very pleasent and attentive. The menu is ecclectic and diverse and truth be told I wanted to try everything!
We started with a house salad of the usual greens, with a delicious homemade white balsamic and honey vinagrette. We also shared the beef carpaccio, which was excellent. I tried the angus steak topped with chimmichurri(sp?) and mushrooms on a bed of mashed potato. She had the lamb curry w, naan bread and we finished it off by sharing a chai tea infused creme brûlée for dessert(Divine!!). Portion sizes were very good, if not generous and prices were fair for what we received.
You never know when or where you will find a gem but we found one in Midland! The Explorers Cafe is must try! We will be back. Thank you to Rob and Jennifer for a fantastic experience!
I have been here a few times and never have I been disappointed. The wait staff and food are amazing. If you love steak their blue velvet is a must try. So glad it's back on the menu. I'll be back again soon.
From start to finish. Pure pleasure. Food amazing, service above and beyond. So worth every penny for the experience.
The best place to take someone special to celebrate any occasion. The food and service just fantastic. If they have a special event planned be sure to attend Rob usually gives a brief talk in between courses, great stories
The Explorers Cafe is nothing short of a hidden treasure of casual fine dining. Tucked away just off the main road in downtown Midland, it is well worth searching for and must not be overlooked. The food is superior in freshness, quality, presentation and flavour, and the service is exemplary. Also noteworthy is the very respectable wine list. When dining in Midland, make this your first choice.
My most favourite place to eat in the whole wide world!!!
This is by far my favorite place to dine! The food is always delicious, and you can truly taste the quality and freshness of all ingredients in every dish. Service has always been exceptional, every time. I have never left disappointed! Always a real pleasure.
Good variety of food and excellent wine selection
Amazing food, decor, company and wine selection. I recommend the Argentina steak.
This place, the people, the food...all AWESOME! We attended the Tapas & Tastings in February to learn and eat food from Chile and it was awesome too!
I love it and always have a great meal and an awesome experience.
