A lovely experience and one well worth taking - you don’t have to fish to enjoy. Cottage rooms are basic - and meet the needs - but that’s not really what it’s about. You are nestled in a tight little valley with a babbling waterway and trail next to you. A lovely 15 minute drive in through the woods - very easy to do. Charming lodge and lovely proprietors who offer tasty food and are all around excellent hosts. We made this part of our first Cabot trail experience and were not disappointed.
This place is well off the beaten track...as my father-in-law says go to where the road ends- and then keep going!! But is it ever worth the drive!! The owners are fantastic people who pride themselves with their work. Herman and Ruth are wonderful. Herman is the chef and a master at that! The place is set up for appropriate social distancing and Ruth wears a face shield. I had the chicken curry and would drive back tomorrow to have it again. Our salads were sooo green and fresh, like they were from their garden! Good selection of local wine and beer too. We have been there for past several years and will continue to go back...if you are in the area, be sure go check them out!!!!
Incredible food and service! Probably the best meals we've eaten in NS. Ruth and her spouse Hermann provided great hospitality, we will absolutely be back!
This is the best little secret around these parts. The food is home cooked and absolutely delicious the cottages are nice and the fishing is fantastic. Definetly a must do if your coming down here. Da Best
Beautiful place and we went for dinner only. Nestled on the banks of the Margaree River, this quaint lodge offered an excellent dining experience. I recommend the Atlantic salmon! Well priced, generous portions and cooked to perfection! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and were discreetly attentive to our needs. The chef even came out to make sure everything was to our liking. I highly recommend Big Intervale Fishing Lodge!!
If you are visiting Cape Breton for the fall and you looking for beautiful scenery and some amazing food stop by the big Intervale salmon Lodge. My wife and I were attending the Highland Quest and on our way back home we stop by the lodge with a few friends. This was my wife and I first time there. The Owners were exceedingly friendly and even open up five minutes early when they seen us coming. The restaurant and bar was beautifully decorated with pictures on the local area that shows the rich history of the Margaree River and the lodge. The food was amazing! My wife had fresh fish ( and I mean fresh!) And chips and I had the soup of the day (pumpkin soup) and I have never tasted anything so delicious in my life. Now to top it off this place is located on some of the best pools for Salmon fishing in eastern Canada. What more can I say other than we will be back!
Cute cottages and good food in a beautiful remote setting on a river. No lunch served, so we ate leftovers from dinner and breakfast. Nice hiking trail along the river with views of mountains. Owners were friendly. Only negative is the last 8 miles (13 kilometers) over muddy, pot-holed dirt road, sometimes partly covered by water.
