Review Lobster Kettle Restaurant - Louisbourg

The last few times I have visited Louisbourg I always came to the lobster kettle because it was a perfectly mediocre meal. This last time I came to visit I ordered crab expecting nothing much. It ended up bring the best crab I have ever had. It was almost melting in my mouth and had a wonderful flavor to go along with it.

Located just beside the sea. Easy to find. They serve very freshly cooked seafoods and high quality chowder. The snow crab dinner is aweeeeesome!!!

Great atmosphere with friendly service - the live music was a nice touch. Lobster poutine and chowder were delicious, but salads are basic and overpriced. Bring your wallet - this place is not cheap!

Friendly staff and delicious food! definitely worth stopping by on your way from or to the Fortress of Louisville. Recommend the lobster poutine when it’s in season!

Fanatastic lobster dinner. Staff were friendly and local. The decor... A bit dated but had a homey feel.

Arrived at 1230pm to an almost empty restaurant. We immediately ordered coffee and seafood chowder. Coffee came fairly promptly, food was a different matter. After about 20 minutes noticed the man who took our order having what looked like a nice lunch. After 30 minutes we summoned a different waiter who proceeded to ask if we wanted our bill. We explained we had not received our food, where upon he brought us menus to order. They had not placed our food order with the kitchen. We said forget the food and got up to leave and they demanded money for the coffee. Boycott this place.

Restaurant is very nice inside. Great view outside. The fresh scallops were very good with a good creamy sauce. The best thing to get here is the seafood chowder. The chowder was very good and had a good amount of seafood. The only issue was that our waitress forgot my drink completely. Also, the bathroom is quite small and outdated. Overall, I would recommend.

Disappointing – REALLY disappointing! We're tourists from BC and a long-time local recommended we go to the Lobster Kettle. They’d been there a year or so ago and said the lobster and crab rolls were especially good. What a difference a year can make! Arrived, were seated, asked about the rolls and the waitress said we shouldn’t order them unless we like a lot of bread with a little bit of seafood. We appreciated her opinion and discussed options. We ordered the mussels in tomato and white wine sauce. When it arrived, we couldn’t find the sauce until the waitress tilted the bowl and some ran to the edge. The sauce looked and tasted like cheap white wine laced with a small dose of tomato paste, and that’s it. No real tomatoes, no onions, no herbs, no other ingredients at all. Ruined the mussels at the bottom of the none-too-generous sized bowl. We also ordered the ½ lb. pan-fried haddock and potatoes. I remember what ½ lb. is from the pre-metric days and this fish fillet certainly didn’t look like ½ lb. But the fish was passable and the potatoes were good. Placed drink orders along with the meal order and suggested that they cancel the order as the drinks still hadn’t arrived by the time we were half way through our meal. Long story short, disappointing treatment of good seafood, poor service, high priced for what you get, but a lovely view of the bay! However, long time local will no longer be recommending to anyone.
